As the armies of the Tibran Empire continue to march across Maldobar, a path of scorched destruction and despair is left in their wake. Separated from her brother and tortured for information, Princess Jenna refuses to bend to the iron will of Argonox. But her strength and resolve may only last so long.Held prisoner in his dark tower, it would take a miracle to set her free — or perhaps a pair of demigods and their dragons.
With revived dragonrider legend, Jaevid Broadfeather, at his side, Reigh must now make a choice: face the truth about the origin of his dark powers,or turn his back on world in need. But throwing off a lifetime of shame and self-doubt is not so easily done — especially when the cost of failure means the destruction of the world. The long-awaited hero has awakened. The ancient spirits are stirring. The dark goddess has chosen her champion. But is he ready to embrace that rite and become the Harbinger Maldobar needs him to be?

Harbinger is the second book in the Dragonrider legacy series. The first book, Savage is Reigh story. In Harbinger, his story continues but we also get Princess Jenna's story.
War is on the horizon. The Tibrans are coming and it will take a miracle to stop them. In round one, the battle was won, but there were a lot of causalities on both sides. Reigh is afraid of his gifts. He is struggling with his demons, but the mystery is about to unfold. We have our suspicions about who he really is, but could there be more to the tale? Legacy and destiny are intertwined. "Two souls, two minds, one body." Reigh's destiny unfolds in this book. He realises what is important and steps up to his challenge.
Jenna is a talented dragonrider, but not everyone thinks a princess should be on the battlefield. Jenna and Aubren are trying to protect their people. Their father the king, has already given up on the kingdom. The people need soldiers even if they are princesses. The war is coming let's hope everyone is ready.
Jaevid is a prophecy legend. He is supposed to be the answer to the war but time is running out. Help is needed but who will step up?
Harbinger really is action packed. We also get a couple of romances and some answers. The story is continuous and there is a cliffhanger to leave you begging for more. The book also has a sample of book 3.
I find sometimes book 2 in a series is just a way of joining A-C. In this book, I didn't feel the author was trying to draw the story out. All the events were interesting and felt relevant. There is also a lot of character growth in Harbinger which will make book 3 even more intriguing.
It can be read as a standalone but I wouldn't recommend it.
I was totally addicted to this book. The story is intense and fast-paced. The characters are loveable and there are some kick-ass scenes. I liked the romance, and the mystery made an interesting read.
5 stars out of 5. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review as part of the blog tour my date is 13th August 2018. Nicole Conway does addictive fantasy that will have you sucked in right from the start.
Now here's a series your fantasy loving middle graders will love!
The Dragonrider books by Nicole Conway are marketed as two separate series.
The first four books are The Dragonrider Chronicles. They introduce the main characters and deliver the first story arc. The Dragonrider Legacy includes the final three books. This series continues the story of the main characters after a 40 year time jump, introduces new characters, delivers it's own story arc, and puts a nice bow on the conclusion of both series. Because the two series are so connected, I consider them one, seven book series.
The Dragonrider series isn't unique and it's quite formulaic. Not really any surprises here.
Unassuming, unloved boy gets accepted into Dragonrider school after a dragon chooses him to be his rider. The boy discovers he's the chosen one, destined to unite the people of the land, restore order and balance, overthrow the evil tyrant, and save the day. Twice. You know, because there are two series. The ending to the first story arc was meh, but the wrongs are righted in the end of the second story arc. Dues ex machina is the go to solution for the biggest problems.
But if the formula works, it works, and these stories work for their audience. The Dragonrider series are definitely story driven. It was enough to keep me interested through 7 books! Battles, mysteries, coming of age, magic, elves, first love, humor, friendship, bad guys, heroes.
Plus...dragons! Like I always say: dragons are the bacon of books--they make everything better!
The Dragonrider books are targeted for upper-middle grade fantasy fans and dragon lovers everywhere. Content appropriate for 10 and up.
Nicole Conway continues to amaze readers with her epic dragon-rider world. Her vivid imagination knows no bounds when it comes to laying out exciting, but age appropriate story lines. Her characters are easy to fall in love with making you feel every emotion as they travel through their journeys. I turned the last page of this book ready for more. Looking forward to the next book.
The second book in this trilogy threw me for a few minutes at the beginning, because I was confused having forgotten who Jenna is, and the book being written in parts from Jenna and Riegh’s different point of views. I did really love getting to hear Jenna’s voice however, and see things from her perspective. Her and Phillips love, and story had me tearing up several times, and I never stopped worrying about one or the others safety. There are a lot of dark elements, and moments in this book as the dark or death entity Noh makes more appearances, and Riegh’s dark powers seem more out of control. My heart breaks for Riegh as he faces all the demons from his past, and feels unworthy of anything. His despair and self hatred made me wish several times that someone would give him a hug. Their are surprising twists that connect this trilogy with the dragonrider series, and I was truly surprised. Just like the other books I’ve read this one did not disappoint. It was fast paced, full of adventure, heartbreak, love, goodness, evil, and characters I truly loved reading about!
Harbinger continues Conway's Dragonrider Legacy series, splitting time between Jenna, and Reigh, as things really begin to heat up in the war against the Tibrans. Some time is spent with Reigh and Jaevid, setting up Reigh's next parts, but the bulk follows Jenna. She and Phillip are captured, and Argonox has a proposal for Jenna. Rule as his queen, and he will make her divine. In a bid to draw brother and sister apart, Argonox shares a secret with Jenna, guaranteed to shatter the dragonrider's world. Jaevid and Reigh turn up to rescue the royal siblings, and Reigh goes off alone to rescue Aubren, when Jenna insists Phillip be rescued as well. A noble goal, but Phillip has been tortured and tormented, and there may not be enough left of his mind that is Phillip. Rescue him they do, and head to the safety of Cernheist, to await Reigh and Aubren, hopefully heal Phillip, and begin to regroup and make plans to evacuate Cernheist before it is too late. Can they get the civilians to safety, and begin to take ground back, or is Argonox too much for even Jaevid Broadfeather to handle?
I really enjoyed this book. At first, I was a little disappointed that we didn't see as much of Reigh this go 'round, but I loved reading about Jaevid, and about Phillip. There also was not as much dragon action either, but what was there was awesome. You get to see more dragons, including Jaevid's Mavrik. And Jaevid's confusion and uncertainty make him relatable, not just to the reader, but to the other characters as well. It reaffirms that, while he channels a god's power, and may have become a hero to Maldobar and Luntharda alike, he is, after all, quite human. Overall, an awesome read, perfect for those who love dragon stories, and fantasy. Can't wait for the next one to come out!!
***Many thanks to Chapter by Chapter Tours and the author for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
In this second book of the series we get to meet the first female dragonrider who is not only a dragonrider called by her dragon but he also a outcasted princess. She been banished by her farther but Jenna is perfectly fine with this. She got some serious guts their are some intense parts of this story where i was sure she was going to end up dead.
Jaevid Broadfeather comes back to life, will he be the legend that everyone been waiting for, and is Reigh the perfect opposite in every way that will save Maldobar from the Tibrans. With lots of edge your seat action, sarcasm, and a bit of romance this series does not let up to the very end with a huge plot twist and a crushing cliff hanger. This series is one you will gobble up. I eager to see how this all plays out in Legend.
Thanks to Rockstar Book Tours and Month9Books for an e-book to be part of a book tour! This book is the second of a series, but it definitely wasn’t a problem for me catching up to what had previously happened as Conway fills spaces in extremely well. This book picks up where I assume the first ended. From beginning to end, this book never stops in action. There is always something happening. I, personally, loved this. I was engaged the entire time. There was so much happening, but at the same times, each part was focused on what was happening in the moment. Conway’s writing is addictive. You constantly want more. She creates this story in a way that you hate when it ends. I’m thoroughly enchanted and I want more.
Ms. Conway does it again. Great story. Well written. Great character development. Battle scenes keep you on the edge of your seat. Caution. Causes sleep deprivation because you can't put the book down. Sorry I finished so quickly because now I have that much longer to wait for the next book.
Book 2 had errors throughout and was a little better than the first. I wasn't sure if book too would follow the main characters annoying moaning and groaning about everything, but it was better put together than the first. He still complains about almost everything but it is less frequent and is done farther into the book.
I was looking forward to this book the most, perhaps that's why I am disappointed. Things seem very disjointed. All this jumping from one protagonist to the other is irritating..and I don't find Jenna very interesting. And just how long do I have to wait for the conclusion?
This is a great sequel. All the creatures of human and elfin lore come together to help Jae defeat evil once again. Jae is worried about the reception he might get from old friends he doesn’t remember from before his “death”. Jae worries like he did in his first war.
Boring. Not intrigue. No routing for characters. Just repeat after repeat. Nothing new. Total transparent plot. Not interesting. You are a good writer. But you need to make is care. For an over all goal. Not just dumb, my opinion, romantic subplots.
I really liked the shifting perspectives in this book, and how we really got to know Jenna a bit more. The perspectives were a lil distracting at times as I felt I was being pulled away from the story, but all in all, well done.
What an excellent follow up to Savage! Leaves you on the edge of your seat and guessing at every turn. It does slow down a bit towards the end but the finale is so worth it!
This one was a lot harder for me to get into. Was really looking for some character development. But each character plays the roll given and you just roll along with the story.
I find it amazing the lengths people will go to in order to further their own agenda. But im glad theres people like jaevid and the others to fight to make it right
