This was a book that I downloaded given the title parodying the classic of the same name and the weird posing of the front subjects otherwise I have no previous knowledge of Torry Martin nor have read any of his other works. And unfortunately as I don't attempt to read too many descriptions I wasn't quite aware this was a sample collection.

The Ridiculously Divine Comedy are six stories from two different works of the author and instead of combining them so that you alternate the book is separated where you read the three tales from one side and then the three from the others, which means the small additional promo that is quite repetitive at the end each story is also quite unnecessary besides padding the book a bit. Also the formatting was a bit weird since the first of the second batch of stories really explains the reason for the stories much better than any of the other stories but it is tucked partway through so unless you are skimming and reading whatever tickles your fancy first than it loses its purpose as such.

The stories weren't bad but basically episodes taken from the author's life while he puts on a Christian moral at the end of it that allows readers to enjoy the classic older stories but with a modern twist. I could see the portions that may make others laugh but it just didn't really hit my twisted sense of humor as such.

Part of this was the fact that the author has included that these are tall tales, which means that even if they are real episodes, there is a connotation that some of it isn't, which then confuses me are they actual episodes or embellished events? To further complicate the nature of this latter there are some black-and-white photographs with additional explanation suggesting that these aren't tall tales but rather memoir.

All in all these were decent short stories that are much better for their Christian thoughts except in the case of the one that kept rambling off on multiple thoughts. But as a book I would return to for future entertainment I would pass while not even stopping to pick up the other two books on the way out the door.

Okay let me start with a confession. I am a big fan of Torry Martin. I bought his book Of Moose and Men when we were both speaking at the Montrose Christian Writers Conference here in PA last year and I was hooked. This book is a sampler of several of the chapters from that book and his current book Call of the Mild, after reading this book, I can't wait to pick that one up. Look, Torry is hilarious! He's also a very interesting person who's lived an interesting life. These stories are part memoir, part comedy with a little bit of devotional pulled in for good measure. If you've never read Torry's stuff, pick this up, you can read it in an hour or two. After reading these stories you'll want to pick up both of the full length books. This is great, uplifting material that will put a smile on your face and bless you, and who couldn't use that?

Filling in taking care of the shepherds work

This is the best book I have read. In a simple but from a gentle
spirit of a man's love for Jesus. Comes life lessons that he relates
to to scriptures and the people in the bible story's of wisdom. So
full of grace, love, and forgiveness. He tells his story's of adventure
From South Africa and is wild animals to the wilderness of Alaska.
With its wild animals and incridable people. He shares their olives
and stories. This is a book that any age will love to read. From children
to adults. It withcause you to stop and think and perhaps even change
Your life for the good as well. Child6ren will love and laugh and learn
about the good shepherd as well.

Setting expectations

You should know up front that this is not a book. Rather, it is a collection of excerpts from two other books. Essentially it’s a marketing piece for those other books. Having said that, the chapters included are genuinely humorous and entertaining. Think of it as several devotional pieces by writers with a great sense of humor. With that expectation I would give it four stars. Five if it was longer.

Tory will make you laugh until your jaws hurt

It is a rare occasion when someone regularly makes you just crack up laughing- but Tory does! I am a 70-year-old lady who decided to try winter camping. It was not a good idea. So I am sitting in my car in 29 degree weather waiting for the morning and opened Kindle. Before long I was chuckling, giggling and guffawing at Torry’s stories (almost) oblivious to my surroundings. Thanks Torry! You are one of my favorites!

Funny

I debated with myself as whether give this book 4 or 5 stars. I give the author much credit for being funny without having to be vulgar. It is a little choppy at times, particularly when he gets to application part, however this is a abridged version, so I am going to be charitable.

Definitely Not Boring

Very easy read....brings out the laughter. The wrap up has a good touch to the tales in that Torry sums it up in a biblical perspective. Really enjoyed it and will definitely read more of his books.

🖍️ I enjoyed reading this book of well-written short stories, each with a religious comment at the end of each story. The stories themselves were hilarious; I laughed a lot.
