Alexandra Pearson, daughter of a shrewd, recently deceased politician, marries the treacherous Bryce MacPherson and experiences the poisonous effects of her father's lasting power until she discovers the promise of forbidden love
My fourth Nova. I wasn’t impressed by Trombone, but this, Incandescence, and The Book of Dreams are intricate, patient, surprising, poetic novels that massage out human truths the way fiction doesn’t seem interested in trying to these days. Nova is especially good at conveying atmosphere – I mean physical atmosphere, how the air feels, rain and sweat and scent – like most of my favourite writers, he’s very physical, tangible. It’s just a book about people, and not even especially complicated people, but it’s a pure delight to read.
I've taken lots of my brother's books. This was the 2nd I've read, and it will be interesting to see how long it takes me to get through them!
The novel was well written and the story of the congressman's daughter over a period of 20 years. The narrator was the next door neighbor (whom all the other character's confided in).
