The whole series is great. As the author says in the end this series was created as a companion to fill in the back story for the main books. It does that well and then some
This is a strange off shoot of the Federal Witch series. You get to see characters from a different view point and meet new ones. Read to enjoy the ride!!
The series is interesting though I forget some of the background universe. I let enough time pass to forget some of it. I could still follow what's going on and most of it came back to me. It's a strange world but it's a consistent alternate universe.
The characters and dialogue are the action oriented types with a military bent. The actual combat is brutally clear and felt right for fighting demons. The fortification surrounding the incursion point was clearly described but I didn't follow it. I was more focused on the rest of the story.
It's a fun story but I think that I really have to get clear who the witches are and how the coven works to really appreciate what is happening. Having not done that, it feels a little like Rambo vs the demon horde. The story is better than that and following the witches requires some attention.
This continues the ARCANE view of the demon incursions in Italy, California, and Charleston, SC. We meet additional ARCANE team members and see the mess they have to deal with in order to shut down the Hellmouth in California. While we've already read about these events in the Federal Witch series, it's fun to get the story from the other side of the action.
