I wanted a good book on performing root cause analysis and after reading all the reviews on the subject I settled on RCA Handbook.

This is NOT an easy read - this book goes into a level of detail in the RCA process that I did not expect. From a Lean/Six Sigma stand point I was expecting 5 why and brainstorming. This is NOT A BOOK ABOUT THAT. RCA Handbook is the text book for the ABS consulting on the subject of RCA. The depth the text goes into is deep, but the explanations are thorough & the resources are incredible. The kindle version offers you links to the resources on their website where the hard copy offers a companion cd. These resources include forms, charts, explanations, etc.

I read the kindle version. There were several hyperlinks that brought you to their site and added a little noise to the book, but for the most part it wasn't too band and was always on point. There are a lot of charts and examples throughout the book to help guide you.

In my humble opinion, the best part of the this book was its extensive appendix (about 1/3 of the entire book). This appendix contains case studies, forms, and practical application of the topics in the text along with things like glossary. These could have been rolled into the chapters, but I think the authors made a wise decision to keep them separate.

I would strongly recommend this book for anyone who is involved with root cause analysis at a high level. Again this is not an easy read and I found myself having to reread sections repeatedly.
