Shifter Enforcers #1

The Minotaur's Kiss

Rate this book
A chance encounter brings them together. An impulsive kiss seals their fate.

The dedicated social worker
Dumped by her boyfriend and passed over for a promotion, Diana Miller is sick of always being a good girl--and always finishing last. When she meets an attractive stranger at a work event, she sheds her good-girl persona, and sets out to seduce him.

The jaded enforcer
Like most Minotaurs, Mac Bodie keeps to himself and never lets anyone get too close. He adheres to a strict relationship code: hit it and quit it. Mac can't believe his luck when Diana throws herself at him, offering a night of no-strings, tangled sheets fun. What could go wrong?

Their night of passion leaves Diana sated and ready to focus on her career. But Mac finds it harder to let go. Diana hasn't just rocked his world--she has triggered something unexpected in him. Something that makes him question his lifelong aversion to that fated mate mumbo-jumbo.

When Diana gets a chance to prove herself at work, she thinks it's the perfect opportunity to re-launch her lackluster career. Except her new protector is also her super-clingy Mr. One-Night-Stand!

Her neat-and-tidy life just got a whole lot more complicated. What started as a night of sexy abandon has become so much more…

This BWWM story features a spunky heroine, a sexy, brooding alpha male shifter, and a cast of wacky side characters. This book contains vivid descriptions of intimate situations. Not suitable for readers under 18.

This is a full-length story of 77,000 words with a guaranteed HEA!

Sweet Alpha Hero + Hot Cold Heroine = Sexy Couple. I loved the supporting players -- her sister and his friend. I hope they are the stars of Book 2. Read It!

I was so excited to read this story following my enjoyment of another Erin St. Charles book; however, this one didn't completely work for me. I fail to understand how a futuristic PNR shifter story included so many current social issues. That was a MAJOR turn-off from my enjoyment of the book.

I picked this up looking for fun but ooph, it's not for me. The worldbuilding is clunky and boo alpha-hole vibes that other reviews confirm (apparently later in the book the hero gets stalker-y, great).

Likeable Characters

I found the interaction between lovers Diana and Mac engaging. St. Charles gave them complimentary personalities that made it feel like they belonged together as a couple and not just because they were hot together in bed.

This book definitely started out strong: Diana knows what she wants--and she fiercely goes after it. Even when it may land her in a heap of trouble, she meets it head on.

I guess, where this book went wrong for me, was when Mac decided not to tell Diana about a certain something, which really should have been HER choice, and she just lets him get away with it, all because her family members call it love. Overall, the reason for the subplot twist is explained...and I couldn't help feeling like it wasn't a realistic reason for her to be in that predicament based on how on top of things she is. It was weird that she, who was good at keeping track of so many things, forgot a certain something (I don't wanna spoil it).

I also don't like how Mac's personality became stalkerish. Like driving by her house, staring into her house, putting a tracker on her...etc...these aren't things that scream "healthy relationship" to me.

I do think the world, overall, is super interesting...and it's part of the reason I was attracted to this book, but all the talk of "mates" just sort of sent this back into line with so many other books for me. Can't people just love someone because it's their choice?

Good read! However the heroine at times slightly got on my nerves... This book was humorous at times , dark in others , adventurous, and very sexy. Over all it had all the qualities I enjoy reading in a book. Great job for a debut novel.

Enjoyable

The Minotaur’s Kiss had everything I look for in a book. There is a strong alpha shifter hero, a strong intelligent capable heroine, great supporting characters and a good meaty story. Diana and Mac’s chemistry was hot, and you just liked them as people. I also loved Mac’s partner Bubba, some of the things he said made me laugh. I hope he and Diana’s sister Vanessa will get a story. This book is not just about boy meets girl, they fall in love and then live happily ever after. This book has that but it also have characters that are vulnerable and sometimes unsure of the love they feel. It also has a kidnapping that Diana and Mac along with Bubba are faced with solving. This is a really good story and I can’t wait to read more by this author.

5 stars for this paranormal IRR one night stand to relationship novel. Although it started with a bang, we were able to see the relationship between Mac and Diane develop after they spent time together outside of the bedroom. I love sci-fi, paranormal books because you can loose yourself in their worlds and at the same time see parallels to what is going on in our world today. Ms. St. Charles does this masterfully. This will not be the last book I read by this author.

Fantastic story! Characters that will steal your heart. A storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to your kindle! For me it was a love- hate deal as the characters face their demons. You will feel their emotions and struggles. A definite must read.

Pretty Good

Story is pretty slow and the characters are sort of one-dimensional, but the author is doing some decent world building in this story. Hopefully character development will improve with the other books.

Too convoluted

I really get that the author was trying to create prolonged suspense, make the characters more than one-dimensional, and world-build all at the same time, unfortunately, making the story clear and plain fell short by a mile.
50% in and I have no clue if real deities actually run the planet or invading aliens do. I don't think I skipped over that important bit, but I did get bored and start skimming pages for the interesting parts. Both gods and aliens are mentioned in the same capacity when any hint of backstory comes up, which just confused me more about why this world is the way it is.
The leading heroine is cold and wishy-washy, which is not a crime, but it makes for an irritating read. Probably because 50% in, and I'm still not sure why she's this way. Each character is different ranges of abrasive, Mac the least out of them all.
I think the author hyper-focused on making this story different from others, which is greatly appreciated since not too many like cookie-cutter tales, but then you have to take the time to make the differences understandable.
I gave a four-star for effort because this author is just starting out in the industry as stated in her biography, so there's a lot to learn about writing. Becoming a great storyteller takes time, and this author has massive amounts of potential, a broad imagination, and I think she'll hone her talent with laser-like precision after a little more time at storytelling.

A light intense HEA story. Diana, the social worker and Mac the security protector team up to solve the mystery of the missing client. One crazy night from a coworker’s gathering, Diana and Mac meet. Mac, the Minotaur’s scent is a potent as his kiss. Fast forward a couple days and come to find out Mac is now her supervisor to evaluate her social worker skills in the field. As I go through this without hunt to find the missing woman, Diana and Mac build a relationship. The story has a lot of detailed information about demigods and they are concubines, shape shifters and how other creatures of the Greek gods have formulated and managed to inhabit the earth. Diana and Mac are the ones or definitely going through turmoil off and on during the story. Question of identity, following in someone’s footsteps to make it a better place and finding each other without reserves.
It was very well written and easy to read and follow along. The main characters were well developed and were able to stand on their own and rely on each other to survive this mysterious case. From the sounds of it, there is a part two that will branch off into another character or elaborated on one of the already existing ones.

What a start to a new series! Minotaur's Kiss was absolutely amazing!

Diana Miller just had a string of bad luck. Passed over for a promotion and dumped by her boyfriend. Remember the phrase Good guys always finish last, well for Diana it's Good girls always finish last and she's just plain tired of it. Meeting a hot and sexy man at a work event, Diana decides to let go the good girl and out to seduce this hot sexy stranger.

Mac Bodie is a Minotaur enforcer who's jaded, always keeping to himself and no one gets too close. Not one for the relationship, he makes sure it's only for one night a strict code he keeps. Until Diana shows up and offer him a no-strings attach one night. Yep, that's what he thought anyway, but his attraction to her is real and realize that she's more than a one night stand.

I love the chemistry they have between them. Diana is determine and sassy, focus on her career. Brodie is hot and sexy brooding alpha male who's bound and determine to protect Diana and make her his. I love this book and couldn't put it down! Such depth and chemistry between the two! I love the story line. It met every single thing I look for, great characters, great story line, plenty of twists/turns, passion and action! A definite must read!! You won't regret it!

This is a totally engrossing paranormal romance. Set on Earth, though not our Earth, in the near future, it had sci-fi elements, action, mystery, gross bad guys, secrets and surprises. The hero and heroine, Mac and Diana, are irresistibly drawn to each other and initially hook up for a one night stand but the chemistry between them is off the charts which tempts them both to want more. As circumstances would have it, they wind up thrown together for work, complicating their relationship and embroiling them in a mystery of a missing worker. Diana isn't looking to get involved with anyone and is totally focused on her career. Mac is battling his own long seated insecurities about his heritage and feels he's unworthy of her but he can't resist craving her. All the characters in this story are so well-rounded and the story is rich with intrigue. Plus the steam factor is smoking. I can see this world being expanded on to include the stories of the secondary characters in future novels (would love to read if Bubba and Vanessa wind up together). A really satisfying story - nothing to dislike and everything to love. Highly recommended.

***I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book through Book Sprout.*** Diana is a good girl social worker who after a string of disappointments/setbacks - personally & professionally. She sees Mac and decides to take a walk on the wild side - just once. Mac - who shies away from anything resembling a relationship - is over the top when Diana makes her move on him with no expectations beyond the night. After their night, Diana is ready to move back to what's always been important to her while Mac finds himself having a hard time giving her up. Things happen to shake up the worlds of these two especially after they find themselves unexpectedly having to work closely together. Overall, I enjoyed their story although I did find Diana to be both wishy-washy & unyielding at times and Mac needed to put on his big boy pants a little sooner despite some of his insecurities. In the end though, even if it felt a little rushed/unfinished in spots they both found out what was truly important despite it not necessarily being the way they envisioned things for their lives. Hoping that Bubba finds his happiness soon.

I love a good bananas plot however, this book jumps into the action a bit too quickly. I need a little more introduction to an environment before the story throws me into the action. I honestly think that listening to this audiobook was a bad idea. Although I have enjoyed this narrator in other books, her diction is way too precise for this subject matter. I could not get past her constant proper pronunciation of every word and the intonation she used for the characters. I've never met a minotaur, but I don't think one would sound like that.
The story itself had a lot of potential but it was a bit disjointed and I could not find a single character that I could connect to. There was a lot of internal dialogue but it was odd and distracting instead of adding to the story. The constant focus on her father was distracting and unnecessary.
I love a grumpy hero but I just did not buy that he was grumpy. HE was more pouty and sulky and that gets real annoying in a grown up.
I might try one more book by this author but perhaps her writing style is not for me. I will definitely check to see who the narrator is or I'll read the actual book instead of listening to it.

All righty, so I read this story out of order, as I started with book 2 in the Gods and Concubines and then decided that I liked Mac enough that I wanted to know his story in Erin St. Charles’ “The Minotaur’s Kiss”. I’m going to repeat my review of story 2 a bit here because it’s partly why I’m enjoying these stories and that’s because the way Ms. St. Charles structured the story’s ‘universe’ worked really well for me. There are gods/demons/demigods/all sorts of supernaturals/humans and each with their unique governing factions/LEO and it was all very neat and tidy in all the chaos that my little mind just loved it. Okay, let’s add in that there’s a human and a MINOTAUR (HELLO!) and mating and romance and fighting the pull and some nefarious things going on that helps propel the story until you reach a rather satisfactory ending. Mostly. There is that epilogue that will thrust you into story 2. Of the two stories I’ve read in this series, this one is my favorite. I feel as though the characters are better developed and I liked them. A lot.

Erin St Charles is a fairly new author to me and this is a fantastic story I also had a full belly laugh at a couple of the scenes. Diana is a social worker who looks after sex workers she has been passed by for promotion and her boyfriend dumped her her life sucks right now so she’s going to shed her good girl image and for once see what it’s like being a bad girl. Mac is a Minotaur Shifter enforcer he doesn’t do relationships he’s a one night stand kind of guy but all of that is thrown out of the window when he meets Diana. Diana meets a gorgeous stranger at her work party and she offers him just one night which Mac is all in for, the next morning she kicks him out which shocks Mac. Mac and Diana are thrown together when a sex worker goes missing and he saves her from an attack. Mac didn’t believe in the Mate theory until he met Diana but he believes that Diana is his mate. This story has plenty of action, danger, twists and turns, passion and some steamy scenes and so much more, a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I give this HOT new series 5 stars. I love the characters & of course the HEA doesn't hurt. Erin St. Charles is new on the scene but I think she will be around awhile. The first novella Close Enough To Love set the stage for this new series. It is a good read as well. In the future shapeshifters etc live amongest us out in the open & even towns they chose to settle. This story is set in Texas. Working in the sex industry is a job like any other but you just might be chosen to mingle with a God. Nice work if you can get it. Mac is a Minotaur with self esteem issues & the fiesty social worker Diana is just whatever needs to awaken his inner Alpha. The plot is well thought out & with such colorful side characters I can't wait to continue to read the next in the series. ( The Wolf's Concubine out 11/30/18 ) There are good guys, bad/evil guys & honey the lovemaking had me sweating like I was there too. This book is well worth the read. So sit back, relax & enjoy yourself. I know I did.

With a backdrop of politics, mystery and family drama, St Charles weaves an absorbing tale that keeps both protagonists busy, but it doesn’t overshadow the very palatable passion between the two. The Gods reproduction premise is somewhat interesting, but I remained riveted to the charming and loveable Mac, cheering him on as he tore at Diana’s tough exterior to reach that gooey girlie inside.

St. Charles showed she can build some compelling, likable characters. Secondary character Bubba was as engaging as Mac, and I will be looking for him in future books in the author’s Gods and Concubines series. I am such a sucker for a wolf shifter.

Diana and Mac

It is official Minotaurs are now my favorite shifters. I am totally enjoying Ms. St. Charles’ sweet stories of the not too futuristic Earth and the shifters, gods, and humans coexisting in a weird dystopian way. Diana is a social worker protecting members of the “sex trade” industry. After a one night stand, she meets her new supervisor for a concubine exchange (too complicated to explain) only to discover her new supervisor for this job is the same person as her one night stand. This book sets up a series of stories about the kidnapping of women connected to the sex industry. There are some very tense moments in this story....the gross changeling ewwwww....but all ends well for our cute couple and the stage is set for the NEXT adventure!

… this book tried to combine Greek mythology with minor science fiction and shapeshifter erotica, all while dealing with human trafficking and unexpected romance. Maybe it was a little too much to bite off in one book, but the background trafficking story was well done and parts of this were both action-packed and sexy. Some of the dialogue is super cringeworthy but there’s more good than bad in this one, and it sets up a sequel nicely.

Also Tatiana Sokolov is a talented narrator for Audible, and she kept the book moving smoothly. I realize these books do not have me as their target audience, but a solid book is a solid book.

The Minotaur's Kiss by Erin St Charles is the first book I've read by her and will not be the last. The storyline was engaging and kept my interest as well as the humor, drama, twists, mistakes and emotional turmoil created tension for the couple. Mac and Diana are both strong characters and that made for a well balanced couple. The attraction between the couple simmered along nice as they engaged in a chemistry that was steamy and hot.

I loved the story of Mac and Diana. We have make that has issues with loving himself, he feels that being a shifter makes him unworthy. Then you have Diana who has special gifts and tries to hide it because she doesn’t want to make people uncomfortable. But when these two meet the sexual spark can not be denied. And how hard Diana tries to push Mac away he will never give up on the life he could have with his mate
