Calista Drummond has it all. A doting boyfriend, an amazing best friend, money, and social media fame. When the truth about her boyfriend comes out, Calista is left reeling. Unsure what to do, she leaves Toronto for the small town of Fallings. All she wants to do is hide. Wealthy contractor Hudson Carrick loves the peace and quiet. That's why he didn’t last in the big city. In a small town, he has his family, friends, and the lake as his solace. After his marriage falls apart, he resolves himself to the single life. When he meets Calista, he cannot understand why she would venture to such a place as Fallings. But nature has a way of bringing people together, and if Calista doesn't burn down Hudson's cottage first, they just might be able to heal each other.
I stumbled on the description of this book on Facebook. I was intrigued by several books on a list and so far this one is the best. The only thing that would have made it better would be a little more details at the end. Calista has retreated to Fallings after a public betrayal by her best friend and her habitually cheating boyfriend. There she meets Hudson who is nursing a broken heart in his own way. The sparks are fast and furious. They have a few realistic barriers: his age, the exs sniffing around, can she survive in small town life. Their resolution to these problems are refreshing and not contrived. They have awesome chemistry.....so glad Facebook delivered a new author to me. I will definitely look for other books!
Didn't think I would like it. Seemed they medt, fell in serious like, and then moved form there. Happy they did not get married but choose to get to know each other. Worth reading. Not complicated or requiring too much thought.
I enjoyed reading this book. It shows a woman's vulnerability but also her strength. The only pRoblem that I didn't like was the ending. It is too abrupt for my taste otherwise I recommend it.
The book itself was not bad. The romance happened a bit fast for me. The ending was not good. It was like the author ran out of story for the couple and so the story just.....ended.
The first time I've read anything from this author and must say I'm pleasantly surprised. I think the age difference was a bit much ( but that's my opinion). But the characters were mostly believable. Not a lot of action But it still gets a thumbs up
WHERE IS THE ENDING? The story just stops. The characters are likable which is why not having a real ending or at the least a good epilogue leaves things awkward.
This is my first book by this author and I’m so disappointed! I’d seen this book for awhile and the title and cover had me! I loved the story; Hudson and Calista were a sweet couple. But for it to end like it did just really killed it for me. They deserved a better ending than what they got. I mean the dog may be pregnant and the need to fix the house for a wife and child is how it ends? Really?! If this is a cliffhanger I’m sorry but I couldn’t give this give this five or even four stars! The ending is just as important as the beginning and the middle; this ending really left me empty!
