When my grandmother died, I knew I had to go back to my hometown and take care of her belongings. I thought I would fix up her house, sell the place, and never have to come back again. Then when I ran into Quinton Lascella, being home started to feel a little normal again. There's always been something a little odd about this place, and I can tell by the stares that I've been getting, that the Wilsons aren't as forgotten as I hoped they would be by now.He says that we have to leave and never look back. He says that nothing I can do to Grandma's house will ever make up for the way she treated folks around here. But there's something I just have to do that has nothing to do with Hazel Wilson or the bloodline I come from, and even though he understands it, he doesn't agree. If home is where the heart is, then why do I feel like I'm in the most danger when I'm here?

A horror bite that takes a chunk out of your peace of mind and keeps you looking over your shoulder.

Run run run. The monsters that hunt arent always in plain sight. Not everything is at it seems.

Short, fast and leaves your blood cold. I could feel the hairs on my arms raising as chills swept through me at this cleverly woven tale.

Less is more and sometimes just a nibble at the edges can be more than enough for some. The setting and the way its written creates an eerie atmosphere that creeps towards you with cold fingers in the dark.

Yolanda Olson keeps you guessing, keeps you wondering, before slapping you in the face with a hard, cold dose of horror.

Yolanda gives you a little nibble of a horror bite with this short. It's different and oh so tatsy. Lucy has to go back to the town where her gandmother lived to take care of things. She runs into an old friend, Quinton. And after that, things start to happen, things that did not want me to stop reading. I HAD to know what was going to happen and what secrets this town had. There is also a lesson learned in this story.
5 stars from me and also 5 emojis for my reactions reading this.

I was provided an ARC and here's my review spoiler free 😄

This is a short story but even then I couldn't put it down I was captivated by each page, I'd like to say it was a thrilling story and I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good book, perfect for clearing your mind off any previous books or life.
I got so focused on the events happening in the story I didn't notice my coworker and so I nearly jumped out of my skin, so when my heart returns to my chest I'll jump onto my next read. 🤣

There are only so many times one can "what the f*ck" while reading a book before they get to the end. I think I'm still saying it because what the heck did I just read? I was not expecting this in the slightest. You think you will have this pegged by the title and the blurb, but you are wrong. you are dead wrong.

I will admit, for a horror bite, it packs one hell of a punch.

This little bite is more than enough

"Invisible monsters can't get you."

This little horror story is short and not so sweet, but is sure to intrigue and scare you. Yolanda Olson's little "horror bites" remind me of old episodes of the Twilight Zone or the Outer limits; a quick punch to the scary feels and utterly entertaining. This isn't an insta scare kind of story, no it's one that creeps up slowly and grabs you just as you begin to relax. Hunger gave me goosebumps and just the right amount of fright and delight.

I mean what can be so horrible or scary about returning to your hometown? Well for Lucinda Wilson a whole lot. And when fate, or some other force, brings her and old friend Quinton Lascella back together who knows what the future holds.

A book doesn't have to be super long to be entertaining; sometimes a little bite is more than enough and Hunger leaves you quite full. Now I'm off for another helping.

"...just because they're smiling at you, doesn't mean they're wishing you good will."

I would say that nothing surprises me but that wouldn't be true when it comes to a Yolanda Olson book. She always surprises me and when you think you know what exactly is going to happen she blind sides you with an ending that will mess with your head. This is a quick read about Lucinda Wilson who comes back to her hometown to take care of her grandmother's house after she has passed away. There are strange things that go on in this town and you just have read to find out what. Trust me it's crazy!!!

A whole lot to munch on....

Yolanda and her out of the box stories. She gives you strange, horror, thriller, and I can't believe that just happened. I love her and her books. I would love to be in her mind when she thinks of book concepts.

Hunger is about a girl that has to go back to her home town, to settle family stuff. A boy that goes back for business. A strange female, and crazy town folks that believe in the unknown. This book is strange but good. While reading it, I was thinking it could've been in the television show, the Twilight Zone.

Hunger is a quick read, this one is slightly different for the author’s works this one will keep you guessing where the story is going to go. You think you know where this the book is going to go and Bam you are very wrong. The story about Lucinda who comes back to her home to sort out her grandmother’s house, after she has passed away. However, strange things happen... Cannot wait to see what this author brings us next.

Even in a short story Author Yolanda Olson managed to bring the twist and turns. HUNGER leaves you wanting more. The story is easy to follow and throws you quickly into a nightmare. Make sure to follow Lucy through what seems to be a tragic time, feel the friendship develop, and realize it all crumbles.

Lucinda has to return to her hometown to take care of her family home after her grandmother passes away. Back to the town that she hates. Back to the people who look at her with hate and suspicion. This is a quick tale of horror where nothing is what it seems and you never know who you can trust. A different kind of story for this author but just as well written as her other books.

Once again Yolanda Olson has managed to scare the crap out of her readers. This may be a short story but it is not short on the chills. Small towns always make a perfect setting for horror but the twist on this town will have your heart racing and make you think twice about stopping in one. This "horror bite" packs quite the punch and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

It's a horror bite - what is that?? Crazy and phenomenal, that's what! When I started reading Hunger, I just couldn't stop. It's not quite what I expected, but Yolanda Olson doesn't disappoint. The characters are interesting, and you want to find out where this all goes. I can't wait for another!!

A quick horror short, that keeps you on your toes. Lucinda hated the town she grew up in. She was a outcast anyway so as soon as she could she left. But when her grandmother Hazel dies and leaves her the house, she has to go back to Hell to figure out what to do with the property. And that’s all you get from me. I really enjoyed this! It has twist and turns that keep me guessing what was gonna happen. Looking for a quick horror read then grab this book.

I've said it numerous times, Yolanda Olson is a master of original stories. Her gruesome imagination shocks you, gives you shivers, but definitely stays with you.
I've been a fan for a long time and KNOW what to expect from her. Yet she surprises me everytime
This one is set in a small town in Birmingham, Alabama. Lucinda Wilson is back after years to take care of her deceased grandmother's belongings. It's a mighty task which requires a few days.
She runs into childhood friend, Quinton Lascella. The town has always treated Wilsons with apprehension and disdain, cause they brought this town a curse, Jinx- the girl who lived in forest behind their house.
Quinton is the only one who isn't afraid of Lucy-Loo or her grandmother, Hazel

“She sprang from the bowels of Hell,”

Like a feral animal, she was fed from a distance and then left alone
Now Jinx is hungry again!!
The only reason I take away half a star is the length. The stories are so Engrossing but short. I want more, more plot, more character development, more background, more twists..More..More..More.
The end scared the shit out of me, hope she writes a sequel and spares the..........
4.5 stars to shake up Yoly

This is such a short story but it packs one helluva punch; a punch you don't see coming until it smacks you in the face. I am relatively new to this author's work. This is the third book I have read by her and from what I can understand this is very typical of her style. Lulls you along into a false sense of security that BAM! Sucker punches you with the final few words. It's advertised as horror, but I would say more creepy, spine tingling than graphic because you know something bad is going to happen you are just not sure when but all the time the hairs on your arms are standing to attention

The only reason I have knocked a star off is down to my love hate relationship with short stories; I always feel cheated. This story could've have been so much more but it did what the author set out to do and gave us a bite.

Spine tingly good!

WOW! This book was not what I expected it to be at all, but it was so good that I'm still reeling!

This is actually a short book, a novella of sorts. I'm not really sure how to explain this book without giving too much away, but holy crap, it was good. It kept me interested from page one. In the beginning, I was a little confused, not sure what was being explained, but I think that was part of the appeal of the book. It's what kept me reading. I just had to figure out who Jinx was, and, truth be told, I really wish I didn't know. LOL. I thought I knew what I was getting into when I read the blurb, but I was dead wrong. Now, I might just have nightmares.

That ending to though. I can't believe it, I think I'm still in shock. Such a fast, but absolutely INCREDIBLE read! Definitely a must have for Horror fans!

5 out of 5 stars!

What a story! Haunting and chilling to the bone - I’m actually grateful that I live in a city and not a remote little town near the woods; I would certainly have nightmares! The tension was building from the very first pages, and the feeling of something creepy lurking in the darkness was palpable! I love it when books do this to me, freak me out to the point where I start jumping at every little sound after reading them, and “Hunger” did just that. The dark secrets of the little town, its history, come to a perfect culmination in the last chapter, but the ending was completely unbelievable! If this was a movie, I definitely wouldn’t sleep for days! If you love dark reads, this book simply must be on your Kindle! Five huge stars!

3.5 stars rounded to 4. I was hooked from the beginning, wanting to know who this Jinx was. A homeless woman living in the woods behind the main character ( Loo's) house. After the death of her grandmother, Loo goes back to the small town because she inherits her Grandma's house. Plus, she wants to know if Jinx still lives in the woods, and wants to feed her.
Anyways, then the story comes to an interesting point that I can't say much about, due to spoiler s. But either I missed something, or there were a couple of things that didn't make sense to me. For example, why didn't Jinx just do what she was gonna do to the town? Why did she wait for Loo? She waited just to give her a warning? I don't know. I'm beginning to think I think too hard about the books

OMG OMG OMG!!!

Yolanda Olsen knows how to pull you in then shock the life out of you! Loo (Lucinda) is back in the little town because her grandmother passed away and it's time to clean the house and sell it. Her childhood friend Quinton is also back in town, he's just passing through for work. When they both start noticing the strange looks and Quinton pieces everything together, he knows they need to leave. You have to read the rest yourself, but be warned, you will be shocked!

Dark and dangerous!

Yolanda doesn’t do a happy ever after EVER! Once you start to read one of her books and you get a little slice of happiness, remember who you’re reading and push that feeling to the back because it’s all about to change. Yolanda writes a horror like no other. Hunger gives us a teeny tiny glimpse of happiness when things go crazy but like I said don’t think it’s happy ending.

Dark just like Yolanda’s heart!

I would recommend this book to any dark book lover.

I love Yolanda Olson’s writing. Her writing ranges from a campfire story to WTH just happened Dark Horror! I love them all.
Hunger was in the category of an awesome campfire story. One I can replay in my head and is like watching a Steven King short in Creepshow.
I was waiting for a Deep Dark story but it was a great read one that I didn’t have to turn on a light to go to the other room. Lol
I honestly can not go into this story without giving away any spoilers. This was a magnificent book and I honestly think how much better can Yolanda give us.

Welcome to Homewood Acres... Everyone must go home again...

I've been waiting awhile to read this story. I'm not sure why. Finally, I went ahead and dived in. Lucinda Wilson was from a small town known as Homewood Acres. There was a mystery behind this small quite town. There was so much darkness. I felt bad for Lucy. She wanted to do right when everyone else was doing wrong. Quinton wanted to be her knight and shining armor but... Sigh... The town and the evil, which was there, wasn't letting Lucy and Quinton go. Someone had to pay.

A short horror story.

Yolanda Olsen has this great ability to lull the reader into a false sense of safety and then just when you don’t expect it; everything changes. You will mutter or shout to you ereader “but, but”. At least that is what I did.

Even though it is a short story there is a lot of story there. You get a feel for the characters and you know something is going on, but you don’t know what. It will keep you turning the pages.

I'm an avid Yolanda Olson fan and follow her everywhere but I just felt that Hunger was lacking slightly. I know it is a Horror Bite but it just lacked (for me that is) a bit of the good old Yolanda flair.
I enjoyed the whole idea of the story and loved Quinton but I just couldn't relate to Lucinda. Jinx on the other hand, even though her appearance was brief, I liked the whole idea of a person surviving on their own within the forest.
Looking forward to the next instalment of all things Yolanda.
The book could have done with one last edit before being released.

Hunger by Yolanda Olson
Five Stars

Hunger is a fantastic short story by Yolanda. I can’t believe how her mind works to come up with these grip the edge of your set stories. If you like horror, you will like this book. Lucinda is back in her home town to clean out her grandmas house to sell. Her childhood friend Quinton is also back in town on business. What happens next you will need to read the story to find out, and believe me, you won’t be disappointed you did. Another Yolanda Masterpiece!

OK WHAT!!

This is quick, dark read from Yolanda that is a bit different than she usually writes but just as amazing.
I was so sure I had figured out what would happen and who Jinx's is. Then like a slap in the head, Yolanda dark mind gave us something i was not expecting.
I loved this short, horror read.

First time reading this author. Not bad. Disappointed there wasn't any gore. There was a sex scene thrown in that felt out of place. Definitely potential here. More story and build up would have been nice. Fast read. Kept me interested. Enough so that I'll check out some of her other work. Minor grammatical errors.

Lots of potential

I wish this wasn’t a novella. I probably would’ve liked the story a lot more of it had more story to it.

But per usual of all of Yolanda’s books, I still enjoyed it. I love her weird screwed up books. Lol
