Love in the USA #1

Find Her, Keep Her, A Martha's Vineyard Love Story

Rate this book
The COMPLETE "LOVE in the USA" series starts here! This modern romance series is simply like no other. It's addictive romance reading that gets more satisfying as you journey further into these characters experience.

Book one of the LOVE in the USA series features Daisy Blanchard and Belmont (Jack) Lord. Don't be surprised by the hot and fast start, Daisy and Belmont have a lot to learn about love, and here is where their education begins.

It was one intense week in late October. I probably should've slowed our pace but I wasn't thinking clearly. I had just learned my boyfriend and best friend were engaged via a Facebook post, which left me heartbroken and wrestling with ghosts from my past.

But Belmont Lord was so convincing and uninhibited, unlike me. He also had demons of his own. We threw caution to the wind. Could fate had picked a more perfect time and place for two people to meet?

Yes, it was one steamy and surprising week, but was it long enough to make us last forever?

Find Her, Keep Her: A Martha's Vineyard Love Story is the first sexy, sensual and addictive contemporary romance in the LOVE in the USA series by author, Z.L. Arkadie.

This manuscript has been updated as of 6/18/2017. Sex scenes are still frequent but they are no longer written in graphic detail. Also, some of the details that were hard to swallow have been made palatable. Although, do realize that I had chosen to write two imperfect human beings. In later books, as they choose to make their relationship work, they also choose to resolve their personal issues. After all that is the theme of the LOVE in the USA series--true love, real love is another catalyst in life which helps evolve two people for the better. So I write love stories more than romance, and from book one through twelve of this series, you will be able to read the difference.

This has got to be one of the most hilariously awful books ive ever read. im reasonably sure it was actually written by a 12 year old boy. Lets review: we never even get the word penis but rather we have rod, bulge, package, schlong...it keeps going. The clitoris becomes the magic button or something equally silly. We also have the "nether regions" i kid you not this word is actually used. And the icing on the cake...sperm is now liquid fertilizer...wth was this author smoking?! Ok now for the actual review.
This really wouldve been better off cutting it in half and making it a short (though that still wouldnt have made it good). There's too much for a short but not enough for a story though that could just be because of the god awful writing. The plot is pretty mediocre with only one real slightly interesting part. The characters make no logical sense. Love at first sight ok whatever this is a romance novel but this one took it to the extreme. within 24 hours of meeting they had sex...still ok whatever. but he starts by saying hes going to do something for her (i.e oral) but then shoves his "package" in her before she can get a word in edgewise. really its borderline rape. but whatever she somehow enjoys it. then the next problem...every single time they have sex he lasts for about 2 seconds before he's fertilizing her with his love juice (not my words i swear). And theyre both morons because they dont once stop and go wow weve known each other for 20 min maybe we should use a condom or at least discuss diseases before. but no what we get is no condom=you're my girlfriend now (i picture him pounding his fists on his chest as he literally says this). The heroine is a mousy little thing who gets sexually excited by him taking over her life. she bored me from page one when she whined about her ex. weve all been cheated on its not really the premise of a story. oh another word on the hero hes seriously pushy and a super stalker..."you will come to my party or i will come and make you" seriously? and she went to bed with that?
the supporting characters were mildly interesting but the parts that had even the slightest potential just werent developed at all. and the sex scenes...well ive already covered why so ill just say that i lol'd at least once during each one. overall this book was not worth the time with its boring plot, unlikable characters, and god awful sex scenes. Really only worth reading if you want a reason to make fun of romances

Let’s put everything aside.

Heroine to hero about her ex-best friend:

“Did you have sex with her?” I ask. “Never,” he ardently declares. I sigh with relief. Thank goodness he hadn’t touched her.

Just two pages later:
“You don’t believe me?” Adrian sneers. “Ask him.” He glares at Belmont. “Didn’t Maya pay you to fuck her?” I’m waiting to hear Belmont deny it and punch Adrian dead in his wimpy mouth. When he doesn’t say anything and Maya’s eyes flicker—as if she’s pretending to be shocked—I whip around to look at Belmont. He’s watching me, seemingly tongue-tied. “I’m sorry, Jack,” Maya says. “He wasn’t supposed to say anything.” “Is it true?” I ask Belmont, nearly shouting. He looks at me as if he’s swallowed a snake, and I know it’s true. The past two days crash down on me like a love nest made of straw. I want to crawl into a hole and hide.

I don’t know about you, but where I come from telling the opposite of truth is called lying. He. Deliberately. Outright. Lied. Knowing the ex bff is engaged to h’s ex. Knowing that’s a sore spot her. Knowing she’ll NOT be ok with him being another of the bff’s leftover. So because it is ALL about HIM, and he LOVES her SO much that her feelings doesn’t matter to him, he lies to her, with a straight face.

Then has the gall to tell her she is overreacting.

Authors, please get a bit of self respect before writing female characters. Because if she’s to fall for THAT bull crap, you don’t respect yourself let alone other humans.

2 stars, I just couldn't give it three. It was, at least, well written grammatically speaking. I did not get a feel for the characters at all, and had a hard time relating to them as my age- could have been more believable if they were in their early 20s. I think that was my biggest problem with the whole story. From the perspective of a mid 30s adult, the characters were very immature and unbelievable. I read a lot of romance, including erotic, but the sex scenes and descriptions in this story pulled me out of the moment- again, seemingly immature. Just wasn't for me.

I found this as a free book on amazon and took a risk since it was by an author I have never read and is a contemporary romance - not my favorite genre. I'm giving it 2 stars because I did like that the heroine is a travel writer and the book itself reads like a travel book for Martha's Vineyard and makes me want to go on a vacation there. But, from a romance novel side of things, ugh. No thanks. After 6 days (2 or 3 of which they spent arguing and apart!) they're engaged and pregnant. No. Just NO. First off, none of my 30something aged friends would act like that. And, honestly, I read to escape from my reality - including infertility. That they wound up pregnant after 3 days of sex - while she's on the pill - makes me want to scream and cry. That's not what I'm looking for in my escapist literature. So, again, the 2 stars are for the writing style and painting a pretty picture of Martha's Vineyard. That's all I can recommend about this book.

I'm not really sure where to start with this book. The premise seemed promising and it started out well but quickly wet downhill....and stayed there. I felt no chemistry between Belmont and Daisy. It seemed like Charlie had more sparks with Daisy but those were never explored. I thought this book would follow Daisy as she got over her heartbreak and gained strength as herself. Nope, she really just jumped into bed with the first guy to look at her and acted like she had no self esteem or morals. I actually wouldn't recommend this book to anyone and wish I hadn't wasted a day reading it. I guess I just kept waiting for it to get better.....and it only got worse

Crazy as it sounds but I love Belmont. He's totally not what I expected. Belmont is the type of guy that gets what he wants and so full of himself I'm the BOMB no woman can resist me is down right arrogant and funny.

I love how the story is light-hearted, funny not over the top, yet the only thing I thought was a little too over the top was their sex. OMG Belmont, Belmont....okay who *rolls eyes* (lol)

not actual a public path but close enough for me :)
I mean Belmont is such a hottie he just loves surprising (me) I mean Daisy *winks*.

Daisy I love. She's abit of an overthinker not too sure of herself but in a good way I like that she doesn't have to prove herself and that makes me like her down-to-earth character and as for Charlie (who I can't wait to read) brings a moment I thought "why not with Charlie!" but she does suit Belmont. The story will leave you thinking WTF, HUH moments, laughter and truly some angst moments towards Adrian and Maya (always have that type of girlfriends you hate), sometimes Belmont (clueless male) to the story.

I don't know how or why I finished this book. The plot was beyond ridiculous even for a romance novel, the characters shallow, the sex scenes mediocre at best. Daisy was boring and Belmont "Jack" had the mentality of a 13 year old boy who just figured out what his boys parts were for. It was hard to believe that Daisy and Jack were two adults in their 30s. The sex scenes were terrible; fast and not romantic. Their conversations were limited and intercepted by Jack the horn dog copping sleazy feels. I kept wondering if this was really written by an adult and not a horny teenage boy who just finished a semester of sex education at his high school.

I loved this lighthearted book. It was full of fun, laughs and passion. A good read, just what the doctor ordered. Daisy just can't help herself, she loves everything Jack does to her. Jack the gorgeous billionaire, though choice for Daisy. Thanks to the author. Can't wait to read the next one!

The premise of the book sounded really promising but I had some issues with the writing as a lot of other reviewers seemed to.

You shouldn't start laughing out loud in the middle of a sexual scene in a romance novel! Some terms that were used were hysterically cheesy.

I wasn't crazy about Belmont's pushyness. I did wonder why he was so insistent on perusing this woman and came on as strong as he did. I still really don't understand what unfolded at the lunch with her ex and ex best friend. So, he was being paid to be with her? Why would they do that? At what point did he actually stop being an escort and start actually being with her because he wanted to? What was up with him having the two different names? And kudos to this woman marrying someone who was paid to sleep with you! That would certainly creep me out with doubt forever.

And as for the surprise ending...when you continually have unprotected sex (with a stranger no less) you are surprised at the possibility of getting pregnant? You discuss birth control options after you've already had sex a dozen or so times? Yes, that's a very responsible practice to promote.

I did actually find myself enjoying parts of this book though. The imagery was nice and did the area justice. The plot didn't drag and it kept you interested. Wasn't a total waste of time, although not sure I'd go for this author again. Certainly nothing else in this series at least.

Overall, this was not a bad book. Believe me, I've read much worse. The story had an interesting premise, but there just wasn't enough...other times there was too much.

Our hero, Belmont aka: Jack, was immature and at times bordered on too sexually aggressive. There was also no real chemistry between him and Daisy because he was too "over the top" while she was too repressed. In fact in my opinion, the most interesting character in the book was Thelma the eccentric ex-artist who threw dinner parties for an eclectic group of people on a regular basis.

The real problem with this book was the use of juvenile terms during the sex scenes which were NOT good. Although Daisy was joking, her reference to Belmont's liquid fertilizer was just icky. Instead of using adult terms, the author used schlong and rod to describe Belmont's penis. I almost felt like I was reading a teenage girl's diary. The most over the top phrase for me was, "He uses his knee to spread my legs and reaches down to stuff his hard-on inside of my sugar caves." Who uses this kind of language? If you're uncomfortable using the terms, don't write sex scenes.

Despite the creepy way the author described sex between Belmont and Daisy, it was a fast read that I did want to finish. I doubt that I'll go on to read other books by this author, but there is appeal to a certain type of reader. Just not me...

As free romance/erotica books go, this was okay. It got a bit corny at times. When an author refers to the lady bits as "sugar caves" I check out though. I pushed through and finished the book and quite honestly it read like 50 Shades of Grey fanfic, without the domestic abuse. At least it was readable.

It was so bad I couldn't finish it. Horrible cliches, horrible writing, horrible plot line. As another reviewer commented, it sounds like it was written by a twelve year old boy. Well, I concur. The author lost me at "he's poking me with his poker again".

Daisy discovers Adrian her pathetic wimpy boyfriend of ten years is engaged to her very skanky "best" friend Maya, this she discovers due to a change of status on Facebook. After doing nothing but crying and sleeping for days she takes an assignment in Martha's Vineyard where she meets Belmont Lord.
Now I have so many issues with this book but I can't go into detail without spoiling it, I'll just say that very little of it worked for me, Adrian and Maya together!!!! Why and how. Belmont has money so WHY, and I really do mean WHY. Did anyone else find it a bit creepy the way he latched onto her after meeting blonde barbie off the ferry, Daisy also annoyed me the list goes on...and on...
I stuck with this till the end because I liked the idea and hoped, I don't honestly know what I hoped but it was all so contrived, implausible and far fetched.
I know this is a romance book so it gets a certain amount of leeway but come on we're not idiots it at least needs to have a touch of reality about it.

I truly enjoyed the sexual romp between Daisy and Belmont. That was never lacking but I didn't feel that quintessential spark or longing that two supposedly destined beings are embarking on. In my opinion, the story felt flat and dull. The author was unable to express in words the feelings between two lovers other than making pointed references in their 'destined partnership'. It was a difficult read that tested my limits and I'm thankful it was free.

I simply didn't connect with the writing, plot, or characters. This is quite possibly the least convincing love story I've ever read. It lacked depth and chemistry, and the first person present tense didn't work for me at all. What a shame; the premise sounded so promising.

This book was full of adventure, romance, and believable characters. I didn’t have such a hard time with the storyline as I did with how many sex scenes were in the book. I would have liked to have more background storyline rather than just two people having a lot of sex.

Daisy is a traveling writer, and after finding out that her ex-boyfriend and best friend are getting married together, she decides that Martha’s Vineyard would be the best place to do another article and somewhere she can escape to mend her broken heart. When she arrives however she isn’t expecting to meet Belmont aka Jack, who has the ability to make her weak in the knees and her heart pound like a beating drum. Went Daisy remembers seeing Belmont on the dock yesterday with a girl she becomes a bit stand offish with Belmont but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to know more about her.

Belmont is a part time local to Martha’s Vineyard and he is a local contractor, which means everyone on the island knows his name. After talking to Daisy and getting to know her more he has all of her stuff moved from the house she is renting to his beach house where he wants her to stay with him, however Belmont has a secret that he doesn’t want Daisy to find out but when Daisy’s ex-boyfriend and best friend show up after him and Daisy have been going at each other like bunnies the secret comes out which kills Daisy but Belmont isn’t willing to let her leave the island without talking to him first. Belmont vows not to contact Daisy in anyway in exchange for her not leaving the island and continuing to stay at his local beach house.

The attraction between Daisy and Belmont is not something that can be ignored.

Kind of a sketchy start but it really develops throughout! It threw me through a loop when I found out the dirt! Had a lot of oh shit moments which kept me wanting to read more! Overall it was a good read and I would suggest it bc it's free on iBooks aaaaand it has some good pointers for advice when it comes to marriage. A little spoiler and kind of sad on my part but the interview she had with the bride made me really think.. So I copied the convo.. “Okay, then why did you get married?” I ask, forgetting the dynamics of the interviewer and interviewee.
“Because…” She sighs dreamily while gazing off. “Okay…” She drops her elbows on the table to get cozier. “You know how when you’re having sex with someone you truly love and you can’t get close enough to them? You want to merge into their soul, but it’s physically impossible.” She pauses to wait for any sort of response from me.
“Yes, I know that feeling.” My reply is clinical, but my heart is pounding. From that first kiss in the car outside of the florist’s house, I felt that with Belmont, and it’s so awful because whatever emotion or power that was refuses to leave me.
“When I stood before the minister and made a vow to Emil, that’s what it felt like.”

Jesus I think Belmont is just a little too honest for his own damn good, "if you think I do this sort of thing often, I don't. Kara and i are off, and she can't get over it. I told her last night. That's why it took me so long to get your wine." He sniffs bitterly. "Which was enough time for Chuck to make a move." I mean seriously he's too damn honest, "she's in a wedding today. Look, on my part it was nothing. She called me and asked if I could pick her up from the ferry. I said yes. I saw you, and I wasn't the same. But we did have dinner, she came over and put the moves on me, the way I wished you would. I don't know...I thought my fascination with you was unreasonable, so I tried to forget about it. She and I...we did it." Daisy at times she really cracked me up, "why are you asking me this when you're inside of me injecting me with baby-making juice?" I'm not really sure how I feel about this book, it was okay, but some of the aspects I didn't really like.

A fairly light read about a travel writer on the mend from a broken heart who falls in love with a local while working on a story about and at Martha's Vineyard. It's a story that ended a bit stronger than it began, marginally.

This is your typical fluff where the romance accelerates and break-neck speed and the characters are declaring their undying love within hours of meeting and with a series of erotic scenes thrown in for good measure. It was cute, predictable and entertaining. It was short on the character development, but it seems these characters will make appearances in the later books and the "villains" of the story are rather two dimensional. I see from the reviews that the second and third books in this series are stronger than this one, so I'll keep reading. A welcome and quick distraction.

I read this book because it was free on my kindle through bookbub and I usually don`t expect a whole lot out of those books but this one really had be regretting ever starting it. The main characters were awkward, nothing like 35 year old adults. They never really developed past needy stages emotionally. Events were awkward, no developments. Things were never resolved, issues happened and were never addressed. Just an awkward waste of time. I won`t be pursuing anymore of this particular authors books.

A little unrealistic but a nice book to escape after a long day at work. I had to distance myself from the decisions of the characters and just accept other people do things a little differently than me. By doing this is was an easy read. Just an average book to me nothing to make me read the sequel.

This was quite steamy at times & I could have done without the abundance of sex throughout. It would have been a better story, in my opinion, if it had focused more on the relationship.
The relationship between Belmont & Daisy seemed a little stalkerish and weird. In the end, it turned out ok, but a lot of it was quite weird.
