Amy is looking forward to her first time away from home on the fall wilderness overnight school trip. But camping turns out to be harder than Amy thought. Will Amy find a way to shine?
My daughter is still loving the Amy Hodgepodge series. In this edition, Amy heads out on her class camping trip--and camping is yet another something she has never experienced due to that pesky homeschooling. Amy's innocence as she encounters the world of a charter school is amusing, but she faces a lot of really rotten happenings in this book, including some face time with the series' resident mean girl Jennifer, as well as some rather embarrassing prat falls in the woods and on the lake. In the end though, she saves the day because of her careful attention to detail and she realizes that "there was a lot more to camping than [she]'d ever realized" (104). She finishes her journey with understanding that she was better off having "tried all" that camping had to offer because she'd "done [her] best to stay positive," something she "vow[s] to remember...the next time something seem[s] new and difficult" (104).
Another great Amy Hodgepodge adventure. I'm very pleased that she doesn't have a perfect life and learns how to deal with mean kids. That's more true to life and helpful for kids to hear about their peers having the same experiences we all deal with as kids.
