Received an ARC edition - and it was GREAT! I have already read the story twice, and I honestly do not know who is my favorite character. I just hope there are more stories and they come quickly because these are fun, clever stories with great characters.

Heroic naughtynessness ensues as Omen, Templar, Tormy and Tyrin continue on their quest to save Omen’s little brother Kyr and uncover the mystery of the Autumn King. If you’re like me and you love epic adventure with fast-paced action and giant (and not so giant) talking cats, then you’ll gobble up this delightful fantasy like a ravenous orclet at midnight!

Omen is glad to be on land again, but their quest for the Autumn Lands continues to surprise him. Autumn's influence is spreading. Kyr's hex is growing worse. They have no time to waste, but the path to the Mountain of Shadow is growing ever more dangerous . . .

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I buy these books anyway because I love them.

This is the next leg of the journey to recover a kidnapped king, so if you haven't read the earlier books, go read those first. I love the dynamics between the various characters on this journey. Whether it's Templar baiting Omen, Tormy innocently terrorizing the locals, or Devastation's trolling, they're such a fun group to adventure with. And I love the addition of Nikki, who is somewhat shy and sweet and despite a hard past doesn't seem unduly burdened by it, and is yet another of Omen's improbable relatives (the way Omen keeps stumbling across people related to one of his five bloodlines kills me).

I also really like the way the world keeps expanding. It's getting bigger in obvious ways, because they're visiting another country, but we're also getting more backstory on some familiar names (and the way Devastation reacts to certain things certainly feels very telling, too, especially given what they discover in the palace).

The story remains hilarious. Omen's improv song (lyrics courtesy of Tormy and Templar) was my favorite part, although Omen's ongoing grudge against Templar for inciting Tormy to eat his previous instrument is a close second.

Overall, this is an easy one to recommend. There's so much packed into these books, and they always feel like they're over too soon. Can't wait for the next one! Highly Recommended.

The weakest book in the series so far.

I intend to keep this review brief, on account of two things. Firstly, I have already reviewed the first three books in the series; and reviewing this book in greater detail would be both too effort-consuming, and largely superfluous. Secondly, there’s not really that much to review here: very little happens in Hollow Season.

Oh, there are a few battles here and there—but the characters spend most of their time doing nothing to actually further their quest significantly. This book could easily have been cut down and merged with book three (which suffers from the same problem, albeit to a lesser extent).

Another problem is the overabundance of characters; the authors introduce several new characters, and somehow fail to develop them properly. This makes it difficult to keep track of them all, and what’s more, it dilutes the story—instead of reading about Omen and Tormy, Kyr and Templar (who we really care about) we’re bored to death by an insane extended family.

I also, to be honest, didn’t like some of the characters. It’s the same problem that I mentioned back in book 2, and book 1 for that matter—they’re too perfect, and too privileged. I don’t like using that word, but when everyone in your family seems to be rich, powerful and well-connected... Let’s just say some counter-balance is needed.

At this point, I just want to get on with the story. It’s been four books already!

Rating: 3/5

This exciting adventure starts right up where the last installment ends, but even if you have never enjoyed this series, it isn't too late to start! Each book is held to a high standard of excellence by the authors. It is one of the most well written fantasy series I have ever read, which is saying a lot as I read more than 300 books a year.

The intrepid travellers finally arrived in Kharakhan, despite the dangers they faced crossing the sea. Omen is on a mission to free his brother, Kyr, from a hex. To do so he must travel to the Autumn Lands and rescue Kharakhan's missing king. His best friend, Templar, Shalonie, a Melian scholar and friend, as well as his brother and their two talking "twin" cats, Tormy and Tyrin, are loyally travelling with him to help with his quest.

Tormy is a giant of a cat, nearly as large as a pony. How big he will be once full grown, still some time away, is open to speculation. Tyrin, his twin, is quite small enough to ride in Kyr's pocket, even though Kyr's stature is close to that of a small, thin ten-year-old. With his love of cursign, in many languages, his ability to create havoc is as large as his brother,Tormy's!

For the adventure of your life, join this dynamic duo of talking felines and their companions as they race against the hex battling the creatures of the Autumn Lands to save a king!

Writing a review for this book is hard, mostly because I know nothing much happens, but I don't really care that not much happens? The world is fascinating and the characters are wonderful and I enjoyed myself thoroughly, but there's also a part of me that says the questing in this book is only a pre-questing for the next book and it could have easily been shortened. For me, though, enjoyment is king, and Of Cats And Dragons still brings it. I love Tormy and Tyrin (our talking feline companions), Kyr is precious and people are FINALLY starting to get that when he spouts "nonsense" they need to pay attention to it, and I do believe that newcomer Nikki fits right inside that "darling who must be protected at all costs" box right alongside Kyr. Such a sweetie (who I hope ends up with Shalonie)!

For more plot-focused readers, know that there are great monsters and battles (Shalonie coming in the clutch again with her awesome enneagram 5-ness!), plus more info on the adults' past heroics and antics, but beyond that not much happens beyond getting to the Mountain of Shadow just in time for the next book.

Bentastic epic Tale about adventurers, monsters and magics

Since I've begun reading this series, I have been more fascinated by these two authors' imagination and creativity. The storyline has become more complex with its twists and turn ask the characters travel to the Autumn Lands. I know I could tell the reader about the story is about, but there are various characters (some new as well as previous ones), various magic and spells, descriptive monsters, and two amazing talking orange and white magical cats explain it all.

Their adventures have been many as well as their battles with various monsters using various types of magics and weapons in the creatures destruction.

The series is vividly descriptive as well as being a nail-biter, fast-paced, and edge-of-your-seat stories. I know that some reeders would think that if this was it made into an anime movie, it would be fantastic as the Harry Potter series is.

I would highly recommend this fantasy book to readers who love reading about magical adventurers.

The Quest Continues!
The authors have once again sprinkled their fairy dust on the pages of a wonderful work of art and imagination! It's wonderful to see Omen and Kyr's bond become ever stronger as the entire group bands together to continue their quest to free Kyr from the hex that is threatening his very life. Listening to it on Audible, as well, brings all of the characters even more to life as each voice is distinctly the character it is portraying. Exceptionally written and magically narrated!

Once again Omen Tormy and crew have set off on a mission. This time to rescue a kidnapped king, Omen is furious that a hex was put on his little brother Kyr to ensure he carried out his mission. Fighting off tree bears, winged lizards, orclets and other creatures. They have entered a portal to the Mountain Shadow, goodness knows what they will find. Again I would award more than 5 stars if at all possible. Going on to read season 5 Autumn Kings, can’t wait to read on.

Curiouser and curiouser

The plot thickens as Omen and friends try to come to grasps of the double seasons of Summer and Autumn. Creepy crawlies of ghosts, nightlings, fire lizards and orclets send shivers down my spine as I sit rapt with undivided attention to the thrilling action scenes and riveting drama of the story. Again, the next book calls out for me to continue this adventure and I must go on… to find out how things turn out for the motley crew.
