Fawn
Moving to a dusty old farmhouse in the country was not Freya’s idea, but her parents insisted she would grow to love their new life. Trying to make the best of it, she sets off to explore the forest that covers their acreage, envisioning endless adventures to come. There, she meets a creature named Fawn, whose soft voice and kindness lure her to him. Thinking she has made a strange new friend, she promises to return the next day—but Fawn has other ideas. Freya barely manages to escape his clutches and soon discovers that she is not the first child to fall into Fawn’s trap. Others wander the woods, their blank eyes staring longingly for freedom, tortured by Fawn’s grasp. Tormented in her own home but unable to leave, Freya must find a way to defeat the monster without becoming another of Fawn’s lost souls.

Just realized I reviewed this on Amazon but not here!
This book was a delightfully mysterious and creepy adventure. The world the author creates,whether the everyday home or somewhere much more strange to us,is so vivid and real. I was immediately pulled in,farther and farther until I had no choice but to spend an afternoon finishing it. The beings in this novel are so intriguing and disturbing because they are Nothing like I had ever imagined or seen anywhere on tv,this author is superior when it comes to figuring out how to make something so jarringly odd that it makes you shiver. The story also has a strong emphasis on friendship,courage and doing what's right,along with adjusting to changes in life. And look at that gorgeous cover art, also by the author!
The main character is 11 yrs old and the book is clean for adolescent readers. While I go on about it being creepy,I doubt it's anymore to worry its target audience than Harry Potter's odd beasts and battles or what kids watch on tv. There's a mention of gore near the end if any parent wants to check it out first,but I think adolescents will be thrilled (in a good way) with this mysterious fantasy story. It put me in mind of Bruce Coville's 'Into the Land of the Unicorns',so if you or your kid liked that book,I'd recommend this one.
