This book is very captivating with ongoing excitement in every episode. I have read several books by Mr. Hope and this story ranks among his best yet with me. There is never a dull moment and I was forever anxious to see what may occur next. Try it. You will love it!
Definitely a five star western adventure, with plenty of exciting gunplay and extraordinary storylines from beginning to end. I was very impressed with the selection of characters, including the bad guys. Never a dull moment throughout the entire story, and the ending is very fulfilling.
Most definitely recommend this story to all readers, as there is a family-friendly context included, which definitely enhances the entire adventure. Too, everyone will enjoy each and every episode that constantly leaves no void from beginning to end. The author apparently did his research and the readers are the winners with his the well spent.
This story has no romance, (which is far from my normal genre), but this IS a story filled with passion for justice. The different people whose lives are woven together because of hatred and justice tell a comandeering story of a dying ex bounty hunter and two grown but orphaned young adults who are seeking revenge. The story really pulls you in, even though the bloody gore is described, as well as the vileness of mankind. As a listener you want to see justice prevail and those that suffered to have safety from the evil they find themselves surrounded with. There is a thread of faith in God, but it's not a major part, unfortunately. I would have liked to see someone redeemed! The narration was really good! I liked his gravelly voice! His female characters didn't sound all fake either.
Great western! I haven't listened to a lot of westerns on Audible, but I sure loved this one! Lots of great western action. I really enjoyed listening to the story of Colton Emory, who arrived home to see his wife killed. Now he's on a quest to find the culprit, who ends up being from a family that is, let's say, challenging to mess with.
Revenge can be deadly, and only the strong survive. Will he? Powerful story and I loved the narration, all in all a great listen! I sure reckon so! ;) I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is the first book I have read by Hopf. I was intrigued by the complexity of the characters. The story line moves quickly from one person to the next which highlights the angst of each individual. There was the drama of abuse and uncontrolled violence and power. The antagonists evoked sympathy as faced overwhelming odds. The protagonists were described in their grasp of power and uncontrolled evil actions. The old bounty hunter was a sympathetic figure as he struggled to help the young woman in her quest to avenge the death of her family members and her struggle against abuse and violence of every kind. The young protagonist had no redeeming qualities.
It was a gripping story and ended with the bounty hunter arriving at his final destination. He died honorably as Anne escaped to assist his family cope with his loss and the financial support needed for their survival. The story ended with Anne rescuing a young girl from domestic violence.
A bunch of down at the heel people who were mistreated or the dying potato farmer who all of a sudden is informed he owes the government sixteen years of a back tax amounting to eight hundred dollars...in those days that was an impossible amount to raise in sixty days..a variety of people seeking revenge by all means possible. Fast moving a bit heavy in parts but you can plow through it. The plots are different for each main character but in the end whatever they set out to obtain or settle it occurs.. not bad...
A Western/2 Old Bounty Hunters/1 New BH/One Target for an Indian Murder
CMH has penned a western story or a young woman raised and coached by a retired bounty hunter. Her Uncle android partner where two of the best in the business until they disappeared into the Idaho Badlands. They raise their families to protect and serve the weak. The older of the two hand his wife murdered because she was an Indian. They the acts of revenge begin. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
At first I was frustrated with the skipping around from one location and it's specific group of characters, to another, and so on. But as the story developed it became more understandable. However, the skipping tends to be tough to follow when you read some, stop, come back and try to remember what each group was doing and their role in the story. If you read this without too many breaks, it is a good and, in many ways, a great read. Really emphasizes the importance of parental love and guidance. I look forward to more of Hopf's stories.
I have read and enjoyed many of your e-books. I have referred them to friends as well. This book is so far from the post-apocalyptic offerings, though, it especially peaked my interest. I love Zane Grey, for instance. This work was right up there with the best of the westerns. I will be pleased to recommend this book and look forward to future works in either genre
Five stars because I could not put it down. Abby is a great character. Highly motivated, mission oriented. Was sorry to see her kill the bar tender: but had a feeling August would bite the dust. Will we see this shire shot and Maddy again?
This was one of the best westerns I have read since Louis L'Amour. It made me want to keep reading and indeed kept me up most of the night. I highly recommend it to those who love westerns.
A new angle. Abbie saw her aunt and uncle killed in cold blood. She had already killed her father. She decided to get revenge. She got help from an old bounty hunter. Along the way a lot of other things happened. Some was good, some was bad.
A tough young woman seeks revenge on those who killed her aunt and uncle. Joining with an old sick bounty hunter and a reckless orphan teen they pursue justice and money from those who are responsible.
Abby wants vengeance on the man who killed her aunt and uncle. Grant wants to save the family farm for his children, before he dies. They come together in an exciting tale.
Started out slow lots of characters with different backgrounds. Once they were all introduced then the story got better. Rich ranchers son murders a man's wife who then puts a $7,000 bounty to bring the murderer to justice.
Really enjoyed the characters and story line, all the characters were connected in different ways and not too many to keep up with. No spoilers here so just read it and enjoy.
I like books set back in the old days with horses and western themes. This one fits the bill. That's my "escape” from the craziness of this world. To get away and go to another time. This is a simple story but interesting. I just plain enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this book as it showed a young woman who adapted to her new environment readily. Some unexpected twists held my attention . I look forward to volume 2.
I don't honestly recall ever reading a western, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I found that the action flowed and liked the writing style. Thank you.
Last Ride is a good western for a change of pace and cleanses the palette. Colton Emory who, returning home one day, found his wife Martha brutally beaten, stabbed, and her throat cut. Who or why was a complete mystery to Colton. In desperation Colton posts a rather large bounty for the capture of the guilty party(s) dead or alive. This brings in bounty hunters from all over. The bigger issue is that the culprit happens to be the son of a big rancher and land owner who pretty much also owns the town. As the bounty hunters roll in they are identified by the rancher’s hands and sent packing. On the other side of town a father and mother are gunned down in front of the daughter who manages to escape. The daughter flees to a friend of her father who used to be a bounty hunter. Ex-bounty hunter is also in need of money to save his farm. See where this is going? This is a good story of revenge and survival. The characters are well-developed and the action is pretty good once all parties get together.
