I was wrong

The first book in the series was a disappointment, but I figured it might be leading up to something better in later books. I was wrong. Unimaginative and disappointing.

I don't know if I will go for book three. I was entertained, I finished the book but these books should be one book, not separate tomes, much too short. This book is good for teens and young adults (which can be fun for old adults too, re Harry Potter et al) but kind of simple for oldsters who like something smarter than themselves. I haven't decided yet to continue but I will be reading other books before going back to this one.

Book one was YA book two, preschool.

Book one was interesting even though it was YA, book 2 -this one- is stupid.
Girls fighting over a 13 year old boy when everyone they love was “killed” 2 days ago.
And it gets worse...

Morgan Rice's "Arrival" is the second book in "The Invasion Chronicles" series. The book is a science fiction thriller that follows the story of a group of teenagers who are fighting against an alien invasion. The book is a page-turner that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.

The story is set in a world where aliens have invaded Earth and are taking over the planet. The main characters of the story are a group of teenagers who are trying to survive in this new world. The author has done an excellent job of creating strong psychological profiles for each of the characters, which makes them relatable and easy to connect with.

The plot of the book is unexpected and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The author has done an excellent job of blending thriller and sci-fi elements to create a unique and exciting story. The book is quite accessible to both young adult and adult audiences, and the thriller elements are surprising in a sci-fi story.

The writing style of the author is engaging and easy to read. The book is well-paced, and the author has done an excellent job of keeping the reader engaged throughout the story. The book is quite accessible to both young adult and adult audiences, and the thriller elements are surprising in a sci-fi story.

Overall, "Arrival" is a riveting and unexpected book that is firmly rooted in strong psychological profiles backed with thriller and sci-fi elements. The book is a must-read for anyone who loves science fiction and thriller genres. Morgan Rice has done an excellent job of creating a unique and exciting story that will keep the reader engaged from start to finish.

I really liked this book. I felt like the story developed more in this one compared to the first one. Also, there are a lot of setbacks for our young heroes to deal with, which kept me always wanting to read more and find out how would they get out of the difficult situation they were in. However, there were a few things I did not like, for instance, Phil, he stays at NASA? Just waiting for the controlled people? I know he is not our typical hero (and this is supposed to be YA, so it wouldn't make much sense for him to go with the teens) but it felt like a sad end for him (and I know we don't know for sure how he ended up, but we can imagine). The end itself made me sad, wanting to read the next, for sure, but sad nonetheless. Despite not liking it, I figure the end made it more realistic, I mean, the trio had a lot of luck during this book, at some point, something bad had to happen to one of them. I'm just sad for Luna, I really like her. I hope we can (somehow) get her back in the third volume.

I don't care what anyone else says or thinks I am liking this series. Morgan's writing has always held my attention; it's only her support team that lets her down - badly! The ideas put forward here are nothing short of lessons for life that we could all have used at one time or another. Let's see how Kevin & Chloe deal with the next installment shall we?

A lot of the things I liked about the first book went away in the second. The 13 year old kids suddenly start to accomplish tasks that would leave me daunted. The overall story/plot is still enjoyable for the most part but I wish the characters were slightly more believable/realistic.

The plot has turned mediocre with this second book of this trilogy. The purpose of aliens' arrival should have been more thoughtful.

Enjoyable YA read. You can tell the author clearly took the time to develop believable characters. I read several reviews that complained about the main character (MC) and how he views most adults as stupid. Let's be real here; most real teenagers do believe that adults are stupid and they know it all. so in that regard, I understood the MC and his plight.

There was a small inconsistency in the plot recap of book one during the first few chapters of this book where the character says it was scary being held at gunpoint on stage when no one was held at gunpoint; the MC was held at knifepoint in book one.

The only other thing I didn't like was the second plot inconsistency. They received a transmission from 40 light years away and, by their own admission, the information they received was from a alien species that died off and wanted to share their knowledge- which is coming to us earthlings from 40 years in the past. If that was the case, why did the MC get another transmission from the good aliens (which were supposedly whipped out) saying, "the one receiving this transmission is your only hope. He must be the one to save you..." (I might have missed a word or two in my rendition of what was said but you get the point). So with that said, my question for the author is, are the "good" aliens dead like you say in the book or are they alive? Or were they able to "predict that in 40 years time, once the signal reached earth, there would be a dying boy whose brain was the only one In the world capable of getting their message and ultimately saving the human species?

if it wasn't for those two inconsistencies, I would have given this story five stars.

I should have anticipated this after the first volume, but I understand now how much of a money-grab this series is.
I listened to this on audiobook, but on goodreads, we don't review the quality of the recording, just the content of the book itself. Transmission had me understanding and sympathizing with the characters, and I appreciated them for what they were. The protagonist is a child in crisis who is trying to hold onto hope that his life can be remarkable.
(Spoiler for Transmission) I was disheartened at the beginning of Arrival to see that only two of the characters introduced in Transmission would be involved with the story going forward. But wait! (Spoiler for Arrival) one of the scientists is back! Maybe there is hope for some development of the original characters! But wait! The scientist is not going to join Kevin on the rest of his quest. And he didn't join because he would slow them down. And every good quest has parties in even numbers, so why not put a dog in it. Dogs make for a good story, especially dogs that know exactly what the right thing to do in every crisis situation. I'm all for suspending disbelief, but it just seemed out-of-place (please discuss this).

The series up to this point feels original, but is actually a combination of tropes or cliches thrown together in a haphazard way. This is my first Morgan Rice series, so feel free to let me know if this is the expected formula.

I plan to finish the series, but this book felt rushed and incomplete

3 stars because I did enjoy the basic premise of alien mist controlling humans to steal earth of its resources. However I did find the YA tropes annoying. More annoying than the first book. Sub plots of a teenager caught between two love interests is getting old very very quickly. Worse is the reliance on the stereotype that girls are jealous and can't get along.
the book relies almost exclusively on the YA trope of most adults are stupid, although the author did add adult coward, and dystopian survivor violence. Granted that violence was probably the most accurate depicted human reaction to the alien invasion in the novel.
The part I had the most difficulty with.... the ancient virus dna detection/extraction device. I can typically accept the premise of a sci Fi story line when interaction with it is consistent with known reality, or it is explained why it breaks from what would be normal. Accepting that this device quickly cobbled together from spare parts, even spare parts find at NASA, was impossible and distracting. We are supposed to accept that this electronic device is water proof, and capable of withstanding an enormous about of physical abuse bouncing around in a backpack. This could have been completely prevented with one line from Phil "keep it in this case it will protect it during your mission".
If this had of been a longer novel I dont think I would have finished it, and I'm considering just looking up the story line to find out what happens in the 3rd instead of reading it.

Listening to this series while driving, it's perfect to keep my mind occupied.
However, this book tanked a bit compared to the first one. Everything that I liked about the first one was just thrown out the window and suddenly it got very "tropey" with teens being teens, and I got really confused by the fact that events seemed to be happening faster than time.
For instance, they were talking about events like it had been months, and people on Earth were acting like things had been months... but technically only a few days had gone by... super confused.
And now it looks like there's going to be a love triangle? Groans...

Got through the book though, and started the 3rd, which I'm happy to report is MUCH better.
Still... the biggest thing I'm naturally editing in mind is that these are 13 year olds. I've converted the number to 16, because I think it was 16 when I thought I knew everything and felt like I could take on the world. When I was 13 I was playing poker with Lucky Charms and the neighbor boys and really hoping my aunts would stop asking if I liked anyone and still playing with toys and coming up with imaginary worlds... so yeah.... Pretty sure 13 year olds wouldn't be able to get away with half this stuff... Though... Aang was like 11 and I believed he could see the world, so, hey, ya never know!

This book seemed a bit more immature than the first one, which was disappointing.

Kevin and his friends are given the task of finding something that will kill the aliens and they happen to find it pretty easily. By 88%, there had only been 2 fights with other people and no significant interactions with the aliens.

The pacing felt slower than the first book too and I found myself losing interest, to be honest.

Chloe's character annoyed me. I know she had her issues and was struggling but it felt like she was constantly moaning about things, messing plans up or creating arguments just for the sake of it.

The other new characters were very superficial. They either didn't stay around for long or they were barely developed past what they looked like and their names.

The ending seemed anticlimactic but I'll read the next book because I'm curious about what will happen to Kevin and Chloe next

I read the first of the series, Transmission, and enjoyed it. There are many that find the series not very interesting. With this book, Arrival, I was just as entertained as in the first book. It is a young adult reading material, but it doesn't mean an adult can't enjoy it. Kevin, Luna, and Chloe desperately try to overcome insurmountable events to prevent the Aliens from taking over the world or destroying it. Unbelievable that 13yos can't save the world. I think not. I read many types of genres and young adult is a favorite. It brings back a sense of childhood innocence and the thoughts of the young taking on the world and winning and no sense of mortality. Good for the kids. Adults don't hold the market on saving the world. It was a quick read and one I recommend.

I was lucky enough to be given this story and I loved it. I have enjoyed all the books I have read by this author...this time being a science-fiction story.

Book two sees Kevin and Luna racing against time with many battles along the way. There is further tension with the introduction of Chloe. I like Bobby!

I don't want to give away what happens, so will only say that it is fast-paced, nail-biting and...'will you please hurry!'

It is aimed at a YA readership but I thought it was great and I am far from young. It tackles friendship, love, fear, ignorance, arrogance and more, and is a great sci-fi tale. I wonder what will happen next?

Recommended.

I am always on the look out for a fast paced series to get me jumping or should I say walking faster as I do my daily constitutional. I selected The Invasion Chronicles without a lot of research. I was not familiar with the author Morgan Rice so I thought I would take a chance. What could be wrong with science fiction, aliens invading the earth, and even zombies (?) being involved.

I will be brief on this and the other three books in the series because of these books was in itself was brief. When you have teenagers discovering an alien threat what else can you do. That's book 1.

Book 2 tells us Kevin is a pawn, but is he also going to be the savior of the world? Keep reading to find out.

I was a little disappointed in the storyline in this book. It felt pointless at times (the boat) and random halfway through. I didn’t understand Chloe’s character or the convenience of the government bunkers that were accessible by teenagers. I expected more from Phil (the scientists), and I thought the plan to go to Los Angles to find something in the tar pits was ridiculous. The fact that their plan failed made the whole thing feel like a waste of time... maybe it will come around in the next book? Anyway, the ending hooked me a bit, so I guess I’ll continue on to the next book.

I was hooked from the beginning till the end. This was a really fast-paced book, and I enjoyed the tension and stressful situations the characters got into throughout.

I didn't care much for Chloe and the slight love triangle/square that has been introduced in this book, but I did like Cub. He seemed like an interesting character (even though he was there for only a couple of chapters).

I didn't see the ending coming though, and I'm already opening the third book because I can't stop myself.

Ok. This is what I thought the first book would be more like. Its a story that has been done before, but its still intriguing enough to blast through it. This book like the first also had weird gaps in time, but the story was good enough to ignore it, or maybe I just expected it this time, that I didn't notice. This was worth getting through the first book to read. I am moving on to the third to see what happens next in this series.

The best part of part 2 of the Invasion Chronicles is that it was a fast read. Arrival disappoints in every way book one satisfied. The plot line is juvenile, well below YA. The many points of tension in the plot are beyond disbelief, and the way the tension is resolved is even less believable. Most of the criticism included in other reviews is deserved. If the rest of the series is this bad, then there is no reason to begin it.

I only got to page 50. Honestly, I don't know when I'll be back to read this book. I'm not even sure whether I'll ever finish it. The first book, Transmission, lacked enough to not wanting to read next one: it didn't give me believeble characters as I'd wanted, most of the personalities were off, kids were way and ridicuosly smarter than grown-ups, some situation seemed too unreal... And even so- I decided to give Arrival a try because I enjoyed the overall story of the first book...

Maybe I didn't like this 'cause at the end of the day it's too middle grade... Anyway, I didn't enjoyed this few pages, I found myself feeling jaded by Kevin's attitude and point of view. Everything that went wrong in the first book is being boosted in the beginning part of the second book.

I know it's no cool to rate an unfinished reading, but I am really pissed off by this developing. Must be said, the main issue I can't deal with is the fight between these two girls to see which one gets the prize: a boy. Like, seriously? It's not bad enough we get this weak character out of the sudden, she actually have to be introduced in a very out of context way. Their lives are hanging on a wire because of an alien invasion and this 12 YEAR OLD GIRLS ARE FIGHTING FOR A KID???? WHAT THE HELL?????

I'm really sad and disappointed: Sci-Fi is my favourite genra and this story seemed promising.

I'm enjoying this series, although it is a bit unbelievable. The main characters are great. I really do enjoy each of them for their own reasons. The whole story is quite simplistic however, and even the characterizations are very simplistic. Again, this is definitely meant for a young audience (middle school maybe).
