Did you know that it has been shown in hundreds of Biology experiments that the rate of reproduction in an animal directly depends upon its rate of aging? If we increase the rate of reproduction, the rate of aging also increases!Did you know that there exist experiments done on male primates proving that ejaculate is costly for them in significant way, in the form of energy?Did you know that if a lactating female lacks some nutrients in her diet; her body erodes itself to enrich her milk so that the offspring does not have to suffer? But the theory of Celibacy is not so simple. For example, ‘controlling’ your sexual impulse because it ‘wastes’ energy and that the same energy will make you a ‘better’ person is not what this book proposes. Such logic has holes in it. Serious holes! For example, suppose a man loses some vital nutrients during ejaculations. The man can easily restore the loss by eating few supplements! It is as simple as that! Why take the pains to practice celibacy? At this point, all debates stop! The supporters of celibacy close their ears and pretend as if they heard nothing and those who attack the concept stare at the supporters with sympathy and irritation! But one question remains- How to explain the experimental data that shows direct relationship between rate of aging and reproduction? It is all chaos now, and nothing makes sense! Let’s make it more chaotic-Do you know what happens when we increase the food supplies of a ‘well fed’ mouse? Its rate of aging remains almost constant while its rate of reproduction increases with the feeding. So no aging benefit of ‘extra food’ on a mouse! But do you know what happens when we ‘decrease’ the food supplies? The animal starts aging much ‘slower’! Yes, you read it correctly! The lifespan of the mouse ‘increases’ and its rate of reproduction decreases drastically! So what will happen if a person eats supplements to restore the nutrients lost during sex? What do you think the answer is? Why do you think the answer is this? Don’t you think that this is paradoxical and very interesting? Don’t you think that to understand the true mysteries of celibacy, we must approach it with a scientific attitude, with commitment to study and do experiments and arrive at conclusions, whatever they may be, and to not let go of any loose ends or unnecessary extra pieces in this jigsaw puzzle. Everything must fit in. If one piece does not fit, every piece must be taken down…ABOUT THE BOOKThis book is divided into 3 parts. The first part discusses about a dozen research papers and their data only, without explaining them. I have fully cited every experiment in case you are interested in any of them and want to read the full research. The second part of this book contains an introduction to modern biological understanding of these experiments. It is here that we will be studying the implications of these theories on the philosophy of Celibacy and try solving all the paradoxes to construct a complete theory of Celibacy. The third part of this book deals with few philosophical matters following Celibacy- questioning its necessities and implications on psychology of a person and society.I have used graphs to explain difficult results of many of the experiments and theory to make the concept easier and intuitive to understand. Few curious people may wonder- if we already have the experimental evidence that reducing rate of reproduction slows the rate of aging of an organism, can celibacy stop it?Well, you have asked a very important question indeed. Yes, after thinking about this in a scientific way, I do believe that celibacy, it its true form, may stop aging! And I have strong reasons for what I say, based on firm theoretical arguments and solid experimental data.
Hello. I am Jatin Shankar. I am from India. I am interested in physics, mathematics and consciousness. I am also interested in paintings, poetry and philosophy. Now, here is a puzzle which has been bothering me for sometime. Let's see if you can solve it for me- "In an electric circuit, what is the scope for consciousness?" After all, we all are but electric circuits, a little bit complicated ones though. So, how does this entity (you) resides in the fundamental equations of physics?
A very concise view (strictly my personal view) about the book.....
Cons..... The title, while talking of scientific experiments, talks quite less about them and when it does, it doesn't necessarily establish various control variables, and has at places confused correlation and causality.......some conclusions were even reverse engineered.......
Pros...... I would personally like to congratulate the author, given that he was just a student of all of 20 yrs of age, that he took such a serious topic, which even has a lot of controversial connotations, and has done such a fabulous job ........ Even while, as I said above, the scientific literature seems sparse, it is definitely not something that the author can be blamed for....... He clears the air beforehand that the research and hence the data is limited, that he relies more on logic than equations in his book......... And may I further say, what eloquent use of logic from a 20 year old..... Never afraid to 'predict' things (cheeky there, are we....!!!), it was a concise text about science, logic, philosophy, controversy, evolution and spiritualism.......I read this book in a day..... To any future read, my genuine advice would be to keep in mind that the bool does not claim absolutely anything yet boldly proposes a lot and has been brought to us by the mind of a 20 year old (I couldnt write absolutely anything at that age.....)
Bookbait. His theory that sex is the event which triggers aging in an organism is most probably true.
But this book does not contain any biology, just the theories of Jatin Shankar. The presentation of the book is also improper and is absolutely arbitrary. He analysed chains with a 1000 links and excluded a million possible cases. Still he found the only thing that can exist in reality.
Jatin, you're a physicist, look at probability (research paper statistics), don't keep blabbering like a philosopher in the possibility space.
I wish Jatin could approach the subject with more clarity .It seemed like he was defending the idea of celibacy not being completely good in itself .However I've been a benefactor of this and yes it's not just controlling your libido ,there is more to that .So a more comprehensive idea on why Bramacharya is good would have fared better .
The is a very redundant repetition of the idea that sex leads to aging and uses a few cherry picked articles on insects and one on a mammal to illustrate the while ignoring many articles, and anthropological facts that contradict the premise. It doesn’t even have a good argument for Brahmacharya! It is waste of time and money!
It is what it says it is. Basically a collection of modern scientific studies reinforcing the notion that there are health/biological benefits to celibacy. Writing is meh sometimes, had some typos here and there, but it’s a decent collection of studies providing some interesting information.
Short but thoroughly researched with a logical theoretical foundation. If you aren't planning on having kids celibacy in thought, word and action (bhramacharya) seems the best course of action.
Great read overall with superficial touches into the possibilities that could be manifested through brahmacharya while having some probable scientific associations.
