This is a comprehensive literature review of historical demography in 1969. It’s obviously outdated, but I found it useful for providing insight into the methods of Louis Henry’s (French) school and the (English) Cambridge Group. It’s a very competent introduction to the field, if one wishes to start with its early iteration.
