A few maimed bodies with strange marks are found on the outskirts of Tokyo. Kiko, a dismissed spy agent, is more concerned with her sword training than catching murderers, but when she learns that one of the victims is her former colleague, she is back in the game. She meets an enigmatic stranger who leads her on… Will he take her to the murderer’s lair? And will Kiko survive?
This is the second book in this series. This is a short story that I read in one sitting and I couldn't wait to see what journey that Kiko took me on this time. The twists and turns left me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. I enjoy Kiko's character. Sometimes I wonder what she is thinking with some of the things she does but she is strong and brings life to the story. In this book she brings danger to a new level for herself. I recommend this book.
This is book 2 of a series and it is my opinion that book 1 should be read first.
Form the cover art to the written story, this book is visually appealing. This is a full bodied story packed into a few pages and is written in a style that doesn't get bogged down in description and repetitive details.
The Black Lotus Affair (Kiko Ochisan Adventures #2) by Lina Vine is a fast pace action mystery, that had me hooked just as much as the first book.
I am loving this series, though the books are fast reads, this one coming in at 133 pages, it didn't feel rushed or underdeveloped. If you haven't read the first book, I suggest you do, just to get to know Kiko, but this book does read sort of like a stand-a-lone. But as I said, these are short reads so reading the first book won't take much time.
Kiko is fast becoming a super fav character of mine. She got everything I love in a MC, and she had this, spark about her that draws you in. In this book as she weaves and unravels the mystery, we see another side of her, and we see more of that outstanding character emerge. She is truly the bada** star of this seres.
Since this is a short read, and when I say fast pace, it moves you through the plot in such a fluid motion, that you are at the end before you know it. To keep this mystery a shock and surprise I'm going to reframe from taking about the plot/story. What I am going to stress is that this book, this series, is a must read. We are taken out of a normal setting, to a foreign land. The lush and rich detail makes you believe you're in Japan with Kiko. We get a taste of the culture along side the twisty turny mystery.
What that said, please take my super high recommendation that as I have said, this is a must read. You're engaged from the first words, and it keeps that engaging tempo, making you flip pages and just be, submerged in the story.
The Black Lotus Affair is the second book in The Kiko Ochisan Adventure series by Lina Vine. This series is incredibly enjoyable. I am so glad I stumbled on to the first book, scrolling through my feed. This book has a bit of a mystery- it’s really fast paced and will whisk you away into a really great adventure which Ms. Vine has infused with action, intrigue, drama, and wonderful details. I really liked the first book, but this one allowed me to get to know Kiko a little better, making this book even more interesting, for me. We met Kiko Ochisan in the first book, ‘In the Land of the Crane’, she’s a former Secret Agent for Japan. In this story, Kiko is drawn into a mystery to uncover what’s behind the maimed bodies with strange markings that have been discovered in Tokyo. With a link to one of the victims, a mysterious stranger, the secrets of the Black Lotus Society, murder, danger, and more- this story really takes off and Kiko will have to use all her skills to make it out alive. As with the first book, this is a novella sized story which has a lot going on in a small space- but it doesn’t feel rushed or cut short in any way as the author choreographs everything into a smooth, and captivating read. I am really looking forward to the next book!
The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller (The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) By: Lina Vine 5 out of 5 stars
The story The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller (The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) by Lina Vine is a book that includes plenty of adventure, mystery, and suspense. I loved reading this book in the series just as much as the first one. The story is one that once I started I didn’t want to put down until the end. Kiko is a wonderful character and she is one of the main reasons that I love the book and series so much. She is a strong, smart woman who once she starts down a path is determined to see where it leads her. She takes the clues that she finds and puts them together like a puzzle. If I needed an investigator she would be someone I would look to for help. I also love how you are introduced and explained about parts of the Japanese culture. There are times when reading this book that I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. The story does pay attention to detail and is quick paced. A well-written book that did not disappoint. I look forward to reading more about Kiko and her adventures.
In the Black Lotus Affair: The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series book #2, we get a whole lot more of Kiko. The first time I had read anything from Lina Vine was with the first book in the series. I enjoyed that one as well, and it lead me to here. This was a good book, with adventure, drama, great majestic world-building, and more. I love that I feel like I am right there with Kiko as she experiences her surroundings. This is what kept me going on with a genera that I normally wouldn’t devour so feverishly. Lina Vine does a wonderful job of painting this story with her words.
Kiko Ochisan was introduced to us in the novella, The Land of The Crane. She found herself a bit in the last book and now she is trying to put her skills as an investigator into work. She is pulled into the mystery surrounding some pretty nasty murders happening in Tokyo. Somehow this will find a way to connect Kiko and she will finally realize why it was she was drawn to the mystery from the get-go. There is a lot going on, and things get more exciting when the Black Lotus Society comes into play. As much as is going on, I was not ever confused and the story flowed flawlessly together. I look forward to what will come next in the series and where we will find Kiko in it.
I give The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller (The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) by Lina Vine, 5 stars. *This review may contain spoilers from book one.*
Kiko is back in the next installment of the series. She has accepted termination of her previous career, instead focusing balancing her soul. But it looks like old habits die hard. When she finds out that a former co-worker was brutally murdered, she is determined to find out just what happened and who did it. Little does she know just how deep it really goes.
To me, this book is even better than the first one. Kiko continues to grow as a person, and there is so much mystery and suspense throughout the story. It is a thriller/spy book set in Japan. Very well written, it pulls you in from the beginning and does not stop until the end. This series is like nothing I've ever read before and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.
If you like action/suspense books with a strong female lead character, this book is for you.
The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine is the second book in her Kiko Ochisan Adventure series. As good and as gripping as the first this book takes you right back into the life of Kiko. Kiko is still on the outs but is more than happy refining her swordsmanship skills. She doesn’t care about the maimed bodies turning up outside of Tokyo. Even if they do bare strange marks on each of them. She is happy to go about her days as they are. That is until one of the bodies turns out to be that of her old colleague. Unable to stay away with this knowledge burning in her Kiko finds herself drawn back into the life she thought she had left behind. Will she be able to uncover the murderer? And will she figure out what they symbols mean? This book has certainly done the first book justice. Just as fast paced as the first I found myself reading so quickly as I just had to know what happened. The twists kept coming and I could never tell who I thought would be behind the bodies. A very good follow up to book one.
First I would like to say I appreciate not having the entire story told in the Blurb!
Kiko is a dismissed spy but she left on good terms. Now she is intent on learning to use and control her precious short sword. Her instructor only has one pupil and Kiko is intrigued by him. She is also looking into the death and mutilation of a former colleague whose death is very suspicious and when another death occurs with the same markings, she can't help but jump back into the spy game.
This time she may be in way over her head as she discovers the hidden secrets of the Black Lotus Society.
This was a fast paced read that had me from the very first chapter. Kiko is a really good character and even though I haven't read the previous ones I was able to get up to speed quickly and enjoyed the book quite a lot.
Now I'll have to go back and read the first ones. Thank you Lina for this one!
The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller (The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2)
By Lina Vine
4 Stars
This is my second book by this author and although a quick read was jam packed full of content. The mystery and danger and suspense in this story was awesome. Little by little I am finding that I love Kiko. She is a former japanese spy and when some gruesome murders happen which she really doesn't want to get involved in she finds herself being drawn in when she finds out one of the victims was someone she used to work with.
I loved her strength and her bravery when faced with a society that can only be described as an awful kind of cult..Can Kiko solve the mystery behind the murders, and can she make it out alive?
Really looking forward to jumping into more adventures with Kiko. I read this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down once I started.
5 Star The Black Lotus Affair :A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller ( The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) by Lina Vine is the second Book in The Kiko Ochisan Adventure series is packed with mystery adventure and suspense. I truly enjoyed this book as much as the first book in this series. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. Kiko is a strong woman who is also smart I loved her character because I see myself in her character. She's a woman who once she's started something shes determined to see where it leads her.Clus that are found she puts them together as if there puzzle pieces. I loved that it was fast paced and at times had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. I highly recommend this book as well as the first book in this series. I can't wait to see what she brings us next.
The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller ( The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) by Lina Vine. This book is not usually one I would read but thought I would step out of my box and I'm so glad I did. I was afraid it being the 2nd book in a series I would be lost but I caught on really quick. Kiko Ochisan is a dismissed spy agent who left on good terms. She has decided she is more interested in her swordsmanship than trying to catch criminals. She finds herself getting sucked back into the spy game when a fellow co-worker is murdered. She is determined to find out who committed this crime. She doesn't realize she is getting involved in something so much deeper than just a murder. I loved this book and I'm going back to read the first one. Read The Black Lotus Affair to see if Kiko finds who murdered her friend and if she survives the Cult she uncovers.
A great second book in this series by Lina Vine! I am really enjoying these books so far, I find them easy to read a full of great twists and turns. I am beginning to understand Kiko a little but more I think, I love her strength of character and enjoy seeing what she does when faced with danger. Although this book is a on the shorter side the author does an amazing job of getting all of the story in there so you don’t feel like you are missing anything. The Black Lotus Affair is a fast paced story that had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I definitely recommend it and I am looking forward for more from this author in the future.
The Black Lotus Affair: A Kiko Ochisan Adventure Thriller (The Kiko Ochisan Adventure Series Book 2) By Lina Vine. While short it’s still a very interesting story. Filled with mystery and suspense you are drawn back into Kiko’s world, a world that comes to life in front of you. Kiko’s character is definitely a big draw for me, I just love a female character that’s strong willed and determined when she sets her mind to something. Drawn back into her previous life as a spy she quickly learns about a doomsday cult and it’s leader that is determined to bring about the end of days sooner rather than later. What follows is a break neck race to the end with a satisfying ending. This is definitely a fun read and worth a four star rating.
Set in 1986 (although there is mention of Homeland Security which wasn't established until 2002), we follow Kiko Ochisan, former member of... I dunno, S.H.I.E.L.D. or something. Having been kicked off the force for a failed operation, Kiko now has the free time to study swordsmanship with a master. But when she hears a former colleague has been brutally murdered, Kiko starts her own investigation. Perhaps because this is such a short piece, our protagonist doesn't have time to do much detective work. Instead she conveniently has people practically running up to her and are like, "This is what is happening and this is who is behind it." Equally frustrating is Kiko's priorities. "This is important information! I'll get to it right after my swordsmanship classes. Or I might not."
I started my journey with Kiko in The Land of the Crane and am so happy to continue her journey with The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine.
I enjoy strong women. Women who are able to take charge and do as it’s needed. In this book, Kiko is thrown into the mystery of murdered bodies. I love that there is quite an amount of adventure, mystery and suspense. I loved that the mystery that Kiko is continues with this book. She continues to grow as an individual and woman.
Once again, I was impressed with the author’s ability to mold words that the reader can get lost with. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author. This was definitely a 4 Star Book!
The Black Lotus Affair by Luna Vine is the second book in the Kiko Ochisan Adventures series. It was well written and the characters were developed perfectly. I enjoyed the book but felt easily distracted while reading it. That probably has a lot more to do with me and my week than the book.
Kiki is awesome, a strong female character who isn't afraid to fight and get her hands dirty. Not does she get them dirty in this book.
I have not read the first book in the series and feel like I should go back and read it then re-read this one when life isn't quite so crazy. I think you should give this series a chance.
When an operation went wrong, top spy Kiko Ochisan left the spy agency and decided to concentrate on improving her sword fighting skills. But, when several bodies are found on the outskirts of Tokyo, one of them her former partner, she decides to investigate. An enigmatic stranger appears in her life with on offer to help, but, can she trust him? The Black Lotus Affair by Lina Vine is an interesting action spy thriller that follows Kiko and her strange companion as they penetrate a murky organization set on a dangerous course. A well-executed novel of suspense and intrigue that I recommend for fans of the genre. I give it four stars.
After reading this, you'll be a fan of the author too. I had not read the first book in the series, but that did not take any enjoyment or understanding from this book. Kiko is smart, capable and driven, and totally relatable. She goes to a new location, to learn from a sword master. While there, she falls into a mystery relate to the death of prior colleague. This sets off a series of events that is smartly written and paced, with enough twists that each new reveal is a total surprise.
This is not the usual type of book that I read. But something drew me to this book and I am glad I read it. It was a short and sweet novella about honour. It is fast paced and is jam packed full of everything a novel has, just shorter. I loved the plot and suspense at every corner. It was brilliant being on the journey with Kiko. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese way if life that was incorporated into this book. I love learning about other cultures. Definitely recommend this series.
I selected this book as my Amazon free selection. It was very interesting and well written but I found I didn’t really care about the outcome. The sword instruction was interesting but the investigation into the Om Society and their mysterious killings didn’t grab me. I liked the writing style of Ms. Vine and would recommend the book to readers who like peaceful investigations. I guess I am more into blood and mayhem.
I like Kiko Ochisan quite a lot. This was my first read of a Lina Vine novel, and I have already acquired the next novel, The Blue Heart Mission. The story pace was focused and allowed Kiko's personality to develop as she unraveled the Black Lotus society leading to the final encounter with the evil masters. Maybe the ending was predictable, but by then I was engrossed in the story wanting to see how it all played out.
I continue to be mesmerized by this author’s work. I immediately was immersed into this book set in Japan and appreciated the level of detail provided to the reader. My only complaint was that the book wasn’t longer. The plot pace was steady and the characters were well developed. I continue to enjoy this series and look forward to reading more from this author.
