Victorian romance. Kisses only

Not a war story. Not a romantic suspense. Not a romantic
mystery or thriller: so why the violence?

This story featured Blake, a wealthy self-made textile
importer & Lady Willow, an earl's daughter & talented
designer of gowns. Her father arranged for her to wed
the heir to the Duke of Somerset, but dad did not do
due diligence on vetting this family. Heir was oblivious
to the subterfuge.

Blake expanded his company by utilizing Howe's sewing
machine to make ready-made garments for non-gentry
women. Guess who secretly designed these dresses
and nightwear ?

I thought the H more emotionally honest than the h.
And would an earl's dtr have a secret job? visit the
textile warehouse at all hours?

It is reading stories such as this that make me realize why I love historical romance so much. Rich Man brings us two exciting characters, one that defines the emotionally hurt hero, Blake Edison and Willow Gilchrist, a Lady willing to give up her happiness to aid her family. Blake is a rich importer who has made his money from the fabric business but is ultimately focused on revenge. His father, the Duke of Somerset had left his actress mother and would not provide any help before she died.
Lady Willow Gilchrist has had a passion for designing clothing and matching with fabric and she gets introduced to Blake when she is at her modiste. Unfortunately she becomes engaged to the son of Somerset as her feelings for Blake ignite.
The writing flowed effortlessly and the storyline was intense, filled with revenge, suspense and many turns.. I fell in love with Blake and Willow. They were meant for each other and you could feel the emotions coming off the page. As I sit here after turning the last page, I can only hope that the next books in this series come out quickly. I can hardly wait. Thank you Laura Landon for such an amazing story.

Forgettable

Super handsome and super rich commoner Blake and earl's daughter Willow go into business together and fall in love. The writing is stilted and repetitive, the plot obvious and unengaging, the characters totally forgettable, and the historical period hazily drawn.

A sample of the writing:"I thought of you when I read this quote from "Beware the Rich Man (Rich Man | Poor Man | Beggar Man | Thief Book 1)" by Laura Landon -

"Blake opened his mouth over hers and kissed her with all the passion she demanded. His tongue entered her mouth and sought its mate. He searched, then found what he was looking for. The moment their tongues touched, an explosion of fireworks erupted behind Willow’s eyelids."

I liked the plot - mistreated byblow trying to get revenge on his abusive father and a young, bored by social functions lady with the wish to accomplish something - , both fall in love but cannot do anything about it because of their different social standing.

The heroine was willing to sacrifice her happiness for that of her brothers: she had to marry and give her large dowry to pay for the depth her future father in law had accumulated in return her family would get two estates where her brothers could live. WTF, why couldn't her brothers work for their living? It was quite common and suitable for second or third born sons to become ministers or parish priests, work for the government, or join the military, so why didn't they do that?
And her father was so starry-eyed his daughter was to be a duchess in the future that he didn't demand proof that the indebted duke still was in possession of those estates.

On the one hand Willow was willing to risk her reputation by working for the modist, on the other hand she was the obedient daughter, that just didn't add up.

Blake was a very sympathetic intelligent hero with a strong sense for justice, but he doesn't assert his right as the epilogue shows.

By Laura Landon

Blake Edison is a self made wealthy importer who is hell bent on revenge. Revenge against a father who never acknowledged him so he was nothing but a bastard. No matter what he is the Duke of Somerset's Bastard son and will stop at nothing to destroy the man.

Join Willow and Blake as they go on a journey. A journey that will make them have to acknowledge the raw magnetism that they feel for each other, but can Blake go through and fulfill his diabolical mission without losing Lady Willow? Will they be able to survive all that will surpass?

Laura Landon is a new author to me, but one I will not hesitate to read in the future. The writting flowed so well I was engrossed in the book in no time. I feel in love with Blake and Willow they were such an intriguing couple and there were other wonderful characters as well. Well done Ms. Landon

Rich Man (Rich Man | Poor Man | Beggar Man | Thief Book 1) by Laura Landon is a quick, enjoyable and satisfying read. Promises to be a great new series.
Blake Edison, a self-made man and wealthy importer, set on revenge for the wrongs committed to himself and his mother. Lady Willow Gilchrist, a gifted beauty, who enjoys designing and matching materials for lady's gowns. Blake is out for revenge against his father, the Duke of Somerset. Can he destroy Willow in order to destroy the Duke of Somerset?
Well crafted, with well developed and highly engaging characters. The storyline is amazing, thrilling and compelling. With revenge, romance, mystery, suspense, twists and turns and surprises, readers will be turning pages all through the night. I read it in one setting. I enjoyed Blake and Willow's story tremendously. A complicated and intensive love story with a HEA. Looking forward to the next in this amazing series.
I received a complimentary copy, however, all opinions are my own.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋
Touching, emotional and heartbreaking, my initial thoughts for this book , however, once completed I could also add , beautiful and wonderful, as well as well written.
I don’t know what I expected really when I read the blurb for the book , but it got so much out of reading it , it cried buckets in certain places , its one of those that you know has to end in a certain way , but your not sure just how it’s going to get there ,
I knew there had to be a showdown of sorts.
It was great ,and I want to read the story of others in the book now, especially the best friend and the brother, I feel I’ve become invested in their lives and need to see them both happy .
A great book and one I’d recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review

I absolutely loved book 1 of this series, Blake and Willow’s story! A different kind of hero and heroine than the usual historical romance brings. Well written storylines and wonderful characters. Captivating from the very start.

Laura Landon is an amazing writer, and I always find her style to be such a comfortable and rewarding read, with so much to offer. Next up, Bewitched by the Poor Man. 💛📚💛📚💛

‘Rich Man’ is centred around the prosperous Blake Edison, who has made a fortune for himself in the textiles industry. However, Blake is desperate to ruin the Duke of Somerset, who turned him away when he was young, refusing to help Blake’s dying mother. His revenge finds him thrown together with Lady Willow Gilchrist, who is set to marry Somerset’s son, such that her dowry will pay of the duke’s debts. In exchange, two of Willow’s brothers will receive estates that are not entailed by the duke. Willow has a secret and that is that she has a passion for designing clothes. She finds herself in the company of Blake as he begins to set up a new business with Willow’s dressmaker. Willow’s struggle to commit to marriage, becomes even more difficult as she finds herself attracted to Blake.
This was a very entertaining book with both two strong characters in Willow and Blake. The secondary characters also helped to flesh out the story. I do look forward to more in this series, hopefully with Blake’s half-brother, Kendrick.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Quite the suspense

I loved the well written storyline with all its twists and turns, especially the fact they kept up all the way through the story. Societies norms where quite brutal back then.

Blake is a self-made man in the textiles industry, the bitter illegitimate bastard of a duke whom he is set on bringing down.
Willow is a high born lady with lowly interests- she enjoys work. She loves designing clothes and matching fabrics.
But when their paths cross will Blake be able to let go of his hatred and instead accept love and joy? Will Willow be able to turn her back on society and follow her heart instead of her duty?

I quite love historical romance, but this fell a bit flat for me. I found the main plot points were repeated often, as if for the first time even though it had already been revealed. Blake didn't come across as brooding and angsty as he was meant to, and it would have been nice to have more romance between them. Yes, a lot of time passes.... but details and any building of the storyline seemed absent. I

For the love of a title

This story brought out the difficulties of living up to societies expectations. Willow had a talent that would have ruined her standing in society. Blake had every right to be seen as an equal to the aristocracy. Their fight to live and love took courage.

Wealthy importer of fabrics Blake Edison is a self made man who will stop at nothing to destroy the Duke of Somerset the man who should have saved Edison’s mother from starving in the streets and didn’t. Lady Willow Gilchrist is the daughter of an earl but longs to be able to indulge in her ability as a dress designer. She has been bequeathed a huge dowry from her Grandmother & so draws the attention of the Duke of Somerset who proposes a marriage between Willow & his heir Quentin Marvell, the Marquis of Kendrick. Blake & Willow meet when she visits his fabric warehouse with Madame Georgette Boulereau, the modiste who helps Willow with her designs. Their attraction is immediate but they are from such diverse backgrounds.
I really like the author’s books the stories are well written & flow effortlessly, the characters are very well drawn. I read the book in two sittings as I was loathe to put it down. Blake & Willow are so likeable & their attraction sizzles but there are huge obstacles in their way. I was drawn into the story from the beginning & at times wondered how Blake & Willow could be together. I also liked Quentin who was very much a pawn manipulated by his horrid father, I hope he has his story, maybe the poor man?
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Blake Edison is a self-made man in the textiles industry who’ll stop at nothing to destroy the Duke of Somerset, the Duke should have saved Edison’s mother from starving in the streets and didn’t several years ago. Blake is the bastard son the Duke has never acknowledge. Blake has been planning his revenge for years and it’s about to pay off and the Duke will at his mercy. The last obstacle to remove is Willow Gilchrist, the gifted beauty who is about to become the Duke’s daughter-in-law. Their new friendship begins to burn into a passion neither can deny. Blake see the perfect opportunity to disrupt the Dukes plans again, but can Blake exact his revenge without Willow getting hurt. I loved Blake and Willow's story!

Willow loves to design dresses and to pick out the fabrics that they are made from, so she is ecstatic when she is invited to see where her seamstress gets all her luscious material. At the warehouse she meets Blake. They feel an instant attraction for one another, but because of their stations they know nothing can ever come from it.

Willow is practically engaged and doesn't know that Blake has it out for the father of the would be groom. Can Blake exact his revenge without Willow getting caught up in the mess?

I'm excited to see what Landon has planned for the upcoming books in the series!

Laura Landon has presented us with a different angle than the usual high society romance. This is the story of Blake, a successful cloth merchant, and Lady Willow whose father is a Earl. The backstory of Blakes young life is one of loss and denial of family. He is a boy of the streets, after his mother dies, and is found and given a chance in life by a cloth merchant of means. When his mentor and savior dies, he discovers that he is left the cloth business and becomes quite wealthy. Lady Willow is a designer in hiding from society and meets Blake when she visits his cloth warehouse. These characters are well developed, are enjoyable and the book is a keeper.

Blake Edison is the illegitimate son of the Duke of Somerset. He grew up hating the man that was responsible for his mother’s death. Full of anger and determined to ruin the man and get his revenge. Willow is being pressured into marrying the Duke of Somerset’s son. Willow secretly loves to design clothes and gets drawn into a business adventure with Blake, but secrets have a way of coming out. This was the first book of Laura Landon’s that I have read. I loved it, and couldn’t put it down. It was such a good story and I fell in love with the characters. I will definitely be looking to read another of her books!

I really enjoyed the first book in the series. Both of the main characters were strong, very lovable and honorable. Denied and betrayed by his biological father, Blake has decided that revenge is his path to honor his mother’s memory. His plan just didn’t include meeting and falling in love with Willow. Lady Willow, a member of the peerage, has a love for designing. So much that she risks everything to fulfill her desire to create. Unfortunately, not everyone is in agreement to their friendship, love and relationship. The mystery is eventually solved on their path to love and a happy everafter.

Unexpected love

Willow is so sure of what her life will become but she's in for a surprise. Blake has had his whole life seeking revenge from the man who sired him. When he encounters Willow one faithful day his plans begin to change. Willow hasn't encountered a man like Blake before and soon her life isn't as easy as shethought. Willow wants to help her family but if she does her life will be nothing. Blake wants to be with Willow but she can't leave her family when they need her the most. Will Blake finally get Willow and revenge or is Willow going to suffer for his choices?

Great Story

I really enjoyed this story! Ms Landon is a new author and I will be reading more of her books.
This story is about a Blake Edison who is the owner of a warehouse of very fine materials. He has one customer that he gives her first choice. She has a customer Lady Willow Gilchrist who has an eye for materials and designing dresses.
Only 2 people know that Blake is working on ruining the Duke of Somerset who is Blake’s father. This story is so good that I think that anyone who likes historical romance would enjoy it.

Hooked from the start! I read this one in one sitting. I don't often get the chance to do that and honestly, I sacrificed some sleep time to finish the last few chapters. I don't think I've read a Victorian era romance with a plot quite like this one. I loved the characters and found them to be well-written. I liked their motivations and how their various personalities showed clearly. I also have a soft spot in my heart for justice being done. This book did not disappoint me in any of these respects. If you enjoy historical romance, then you should check this one out.

Lady Willow has a huge dowry her grandmother left her, but with four brothers, her father wants her to marry a certain lord that will give over lands for the younger two. Blake has done very well in the textile importing business, but without his rightful title, he is bent on revenge against the father that left him and his mother for dead. Can these two find happiness in the work they do, while society does not allow work?

I loved this book.

What is wonderful to find out when you read a great book is that the ending you saw coming is not the ending that really happens. I love when that happens. So many books follow the standard format that has you figuring out the ending. Beware the Rich Man is not such a book. I loved the twist and turns the story line took. Ms Landon had me from chapter one. I can't wait to read some of her other books. Enjoy!

A nice, relaxing Victorian romance novel. I didn’t want to put this down once I began the story. The plot was refreshingly different and the candor and sincerity of her characters was amazing. I believe this is my first book by Laura Landon, but it won’t be the last! An easy to recommend book as well as a showcase for Ms. Landon’s gifted storytelling ability.
