Matt Larkin

Along with his wife and daughter, Matt lives as a digital nomad, traveling the world while researching for his novels. He reads approximately a bazillion books a year, loves video games, and relaxes by binge watching Netflix with his wife.

Matt writes retellings of mythology as dark, gritty fantasy. His passions of myths, philosophy, and history inform his series. He strives to combine gut-wrenching action with thought-provoking ideas and culturally resonant stories.

As a child, Matt read The Lord of the Rings with his parents. This sparked a lifelong obsession with fantasy and started him on a path of discovering the roots of fantasy through mythology. In exploration of these ideas, the Eschaton Cycle was born—a universe of dark fantasy where all myths and legends play out.

tedious

This is the second book in the second trilogy of this series but unfortunately I have to say that I am not enjoying this second trilogy anyway as near as the first.
All the manipulation that Odin is doing in order to stop Ragnorak is becoming more than a little tedious. Can’t help but feel that the Author is just drawing the story out far to much that it’s become stale.
Will continue reading next book in the hope that it becomes better besides I’m not one to give up on a series that has already taken quite some time to get through

The nine realms are hurtling towards Ragnarok. Odin can gaze into the mists and see the coming apocalypse,, but the visions are unclear, jumbled, and confused. All of his machinations and manipulations may come to naught if he makes the wrong decision at the wrong time. He must be able to see the future in it's entirety but the only possible way depends on making his way to a place talked about and shrouded in it's own fabled myths and legends. And to make matters worse, he will have to travel to the farthest, darkest, coldest reaches of Jotunheim crossing lands of ice and snow and populated by a race that sees humans only as food and hates the Aesir with all their being. Only by finding his way through these perils and travails can Odin have the hope to save everything.

Matt Larkin once more grabs or minds and rushes us head long into his incredible world of legends. Larkin continues to arguably be the current master of the Mythic Legend genre as he takes the heroes and villains...lands of dreams... and creatures of nightmare and breathes life into them. The author has the ability to reach into the hearts and souls of his creations and pour them out on the pages of his books to entertain and enthrall the readers so that they will feel their pain and emotions as the story unfolds.

This is the 5th book in the Ragnarok Era series with several more to come.

If you love heroes who are flawed...villains who can touch your heart...and adventures to get lost in, this is the author and the story for you.

The Gods of the Ragnarok Series comes to a close. Odin, Thor et al are immortal, but they are not the Gods of Marvel. They can be beaten, hurt, and worst of all, they can fail. With Ragnarok brewing, who the hell (Hel?) wants this as an option? Odin seeks the Well of Mimir, which contains the water that will grant him the omniscience he yearns for. But he must go on his biggest trial in search of it, if it even exists.

The author has written his own take on the stories of the Norse Aesir, and does a terrific job of it, crafting characters that seem familiarly human, but nothing like the wise-cracking omnipotents other media has given us. The story is dark, growing ever darker (as it must), spiraling ever downwards as the protagonists face their greatest challenges. If I had one niggle, the ending isn't quite as epic as expected, but it seems more appropriate somehow.

Read it, and exorcise the ghosts of celluloid Ragnarok.

Having read the Runeblade books before I ventured into the realm of the Gods of the Ragnarok Era, I was a bit surprised, at first, at how (relatively) harmless this story started out. I had expected something much darker, grittier, more viol- oh. Okay, then.

Compared to the Runeblade Saga, the scope of this book is much larger and more complex, so much so that it can get a bit difficult at times to keep track of all the different storylines and characters involved.

Despite that, and even though The Well of Mimir boasts fewer detailed battle scenes than the Runeblade books, the stories are not any less tragic, maybe even more so, because the threats, the wounds, and the betrayals often feel much more personal.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the saga, and to seeing how this trilogy will play out in the end.

HOTCHA MAMA!!!
Talk about taking the long road. One again Matt shows us just how talented he is as he brings worlds to life for our entertainment. With keen insight and a vast imagination he never leaves one lacking. Such a gift and mind for detail it's no wonder his characters take on a life of their own. Scenes so vividly detailed it paints a fantastic backdrop and tosses in some spice to add flavor to the mix. He never ceases to amaze me. Fantastic job Matt, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.

actually, started to grow into these series. Lots of disturbing things happen. Some of the traditional mythological stories (like that serpent with its venom over Loki's face) are reshuffled and used for different parts of the storyline. Most characters really develop dark sides as they stumble on the way and make bad choices to be followed by even worse. Most noticeably, Sigyn. She goes off the deep end and causes massive grief going forward.
Odin starts to remind us more and more how dangerous the people obsessed with grand ideas of bettering mankind are.

Odin's machinations continue and wars begin to ravage Midgard. While there are plenty of climactic events, this book felt a little underwhelming. Of course, it is the second book in the second trilogy. So, I expect the next book in the series will take it up a notch. I wouldn't say this book was disappointing. It was still entertaining and I did enjoy it, but I didn't feel as invested in it as I did the previous ones.

Another great chapter in the series. Although I found the first book a little slow every book since has continued to keep me anticipating the next installment.

It keeps getting darker!

How far can a man or god go to avert the end of the world? Odin plays with the boundaries of morality, constantly threatening to cross the line from deliverer to destroyer. But he tells himself it is all for the greater good.

Outstanding fantasy read. Odin must save humanity. It’s definitely an impossible task to stop reading until you’ve reached the end. Certainly ready for another story in this awesome series.

Felt like more of a placeholder book in the series, setting up the later ones rather than actually having a strong storyline itself. Still plenty of plot plot plot
