The town of Heather’s Forge and its rich history have become tainted with the string of murders and robberies in recent months. To make matters worse, solving crime after crime seems to fall on local inn owner Allie Garrett and her clue finding cat Pixie.

With an unsolved murder still hanging over the town, and a secret that only Allie knows, Sheriff Mills must finally turn to an unlikely ally.

As Allie digs deeper into the crimes, she uncovers a bigger secret about her Aunt Beatrice, the town of Heather’s Forge and a mysterious cabin in the mountains that just might unlock the truth about everything that has happened in the small quiet town.

Inside Out is the fifth book in the Heather's Forge Cozy Mystery series. It can be read as a standalone, but the Heather's Forge books are best enjoyed when read in series order.

This is a cozy mystery featuring a strong female protagonist, quirky characters and an unfolding mystery that needs solving. It has no graphic gore, bad language, or sex.

Book 5 of The Heater Forge series begins where Book 4 left off- a murderer is on the loose and Allie is hiding a piece of evidence in the museum robbery. Allie also becomes totally obsessed with the mysterious tunnels and often puts herself at risk exploring them. There were a lot of loose ends to be tackled in this book - nosey Allie and Levi (ex-high profile detective, current handyman at the inn and Allie's boyfriend) are now consultants to the incompetent Sheriff Mills, trying to tie them up. It is a quick enjoyable read-full of quirky characters, "the wives" who are guests at the Inn added a lot of fun with their exploits. The end of the book had a major twist - this beautiful, inviting small town has the attention of someone(s) powerful. .I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Even though it can be read as a stand alone- I suggest reading the previous books since it adds to the understanding of Heather's Forge and the mysterious goings on. I definitely will be reading the next one since this story left more unanswered questions. I recommend this to those who love mysteries about small towns with a lot of charm and interesting characters.

I enjoyed this book about Heather Forge's. After Allie Garrett inherits the Barrel Inn from her deceased aunt she has strived to design fun activities for visitors and townsfolk alike.
When Freddy Wright is killed in the jail, Allie and her boyfried Levi Stokes, a former police detective for New York City, attempt to help Sheriff Conrad Mills find the killer. Allie has discovered tunnels that are under the Inn and most of the city. She sets out to see where they all lead and if there is a way into the jail from the tunnels.
While going through the tunnels she finds a small shed with a book in it that could have secrets regarding her aunt. At the painting party at the Inn someone says that the founder of the city, Calliwell, had a small house not far from the Inn before he built the Calliwell Mansion. When Allie finds the foundation for this house she also sees Artie Gordon sneaking around and catches him entering a different set of tunnels.
This is a great mystery story with a little romance included. A must read for cozy mystery readers.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 5 in the Heather's Forge series, and it is the second that I have read. I generally enjoyed the book, but it was spoiled by two things, the first is the main character, Allie, whose over-reactions, and constant self-doubt as in "why do I keep on investigating, I don't want to, but I can't help it" are rather annoying, which is a shame as the basic plot is good, and there are sub-plots and interesting ancillary characters to add extra interest.
However, the second issue I have is that once again this book commits the cardinal sin of not tying up all the plot elements, so at the end of the book there is a huge cliffhanger about high level corruption. This is a shame as I think that the characters and their relationships are very well written, and very believable, and I especially like the way the cat solves mysteries!

This was my first read by N.L. Cameron and it was a super fun cozy, that was a a nice, light getaway. Even though it is not the first book in the series I didn't find that to be a detractor, had no trouble following along with the characters or the storyline, but that being said I really want to go back and read the others because it really appears to be a continuing saga. Everything was well developed which made it nice and easy to follow, easy to learn who the characters were and their relationships to each other along with the added bonus of a sleuthing kitty. The plot is fun with twists and turns that will leave you surprised, but there is a cliffhanger, so once again, you would probably do better to read these in order to set the scene properly. All in all, worth the time, the only reason I took off a star is because of the realization that I would have done better to read the other ones first. But, this book was good enough that I'm going to get them now!

A fast-paced crazy mystery in a small town. Once you get on the roller coaster, you can't get off! A really fun read.

Allies' Inn, a strange cabin, more tunnels, a mystery around her Aunt Beatrice who left the inn to Allie when she was murdered a short while back and a very strange angry resident of the town that everyone who knows him says to stay far away from him, Artie Gordon. There are so many twists and turns, red-herrings, a perpetual crazy woman, Laura who likes to confess to everything and at the same time Allie is putting together events for the patrons of her inn, not least among them a mystery clue hunt to the murders that were solved already in town. Wow, once you start reading you can't put it down and it can be read in one sitting! And you are left with a strange cliff-hanger! I received an ARC from Booksprout but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

I received this book in exchange for a honest book review. I was a little confused because I didn’t realize this was part of a series. It seemed like a stand alone book until I got to the end and was left hanging. It was a good book about a woman called Allie who apparently inherited an inn in a small town when her spinster aunt was murdered. This book is set around the towns museum being robbed and the robber being killed in his jail cell. Allie and her boyfriend/handyman/ex cop set out to solve the mystery and find out who hired the thief. All the stolen items have been recovered. Sadly we didn’t get to find out any of the answers in this book.

The Murder Mystery Thickens
This is the fifth book in the Heather Forge Mystery series. These are not totally independent books and this one ends in a bit of a cliff hanger. More adventures, more crime, more tunnels and even more romance fills the town of Heather's Forge and the Barrel Inn. The plot gets more twisted and the cat delivers more clues. It is quite a story. I am enjoying the series and want ti read it until the end. I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.

Allie Garrett and her cat Pixie continues to look for the murderer in this book. Allie is also hiding evidence from the Sheriff and let's not even start on the hidden tunnels. She is also finding out things about her Aunt Beatrice that no one even knew. Can she find the killer? What about the robberies that have been going on? The ending is what I call 'open ended' to be continued. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from BookSprout.

Inside Out

Still working through a complicated burglary and murder, this is the second part of the story. There are more questions than answers through out this part of the plot.
So far, the answers we received didn't match the real questions...like: is Pixie a magical cat?
I will definitely be reading the next book!

The further adventures of Allie and Levi near the Barrell Inn can be read in an interrupted day (or an uninterrupted morning or afternoon) starting after Hounded to Death.

This is book five in the delightful Heather Forge series by N.L. Cameron. Inside Out picks up where Hounded to Death left off as Allie finds herself with the last missing item from the museum robbery.

Allie is now a consultant for the local sheriff and finds herself trying to resolve all the loose ends of the museum robbery and murder of a local. As Allie gets deeper involved, she discovers tunnels under the town of Heather’s Forge, a secret about her Aunt Bea, and with the help of her cat Pixie finds a missing little girl.

This series has a great cast including a feisty female amateur sleuth with a nose for trouble, her hunky boyfriend/handyman/ex-cop, her best friend and accomplice to escapades, a quirky mix of characters, and a clue finding cat.

The mystery just keeps going

The last two books have kept us guessing, with very little leads. The characters relationships have grown. Allie is obsessed with the underground tunnels. Pixie seems to be the only one who knows what's going on.

Another fun read. Finding family secrets in the tunnels makes more questions than answers. Looking forward the the next book in the series.

This was a good read. Allie is still trying to figure out the murder from the past book. She is working with her boyfriend to solve it. Unfortunately, it still isn't solved in this one. However, I do know that everything will wrap up nicely in the next/last book.

Allie, with the help of handyman/boyfriend Levi and Eliza, helps Sheriff Mills with his murder investigation, and discovers Eliza's brother is involved with the museum robbery and he's arrested. Allie, while investigating the tunnels under her inn, she finds a secret about her beloved aunt, who left Allie the Inn when she passed away. Was her spinster aunt once married? If so, who was she married to and why did the marriage end? Why was this a secret all these years?
