Adult Divergent fans will love this smart, near-future speculative, thrill-packed romance! My name is Thessaly, and at 22, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Living with my parents, going to college, and hanging out with friends is pretty much the extent of my mediocre life. The biggest drama I have going on with me is fighting a growing attraction toward my best friend Bram. Oh and avoiding needles--specifically ones that draw my blood. See, on January 27, 2044, the DNA Networking Act was set into action. This new law provides those in authority to gather genetic information from citizens in an effort to achieve nationwide resistance to diseases and other weaknesses. Sounds promising, right? Maybe. But to me, it infringes on a person's freedom. The act prohibits citizens from declining to undergo genetic testing when summoned, and the deadline for everyone to voluntarily submit a DNA sample is fast approaching. I'm avoiding the process as long as possible. Until one night the unthinkable I'm ruthlessly abducted. Bleeding is no longer voluntary... it's a requirement. And as it turns out, the four guys who captured me aren't anything like I expected.Full-length, soft Sci-Fi Reverse Harem Romance with a speculative spin on fated mates and a corrupt government hellbent on keeping them separated.

Adell Ryan is a hubby/wife pseudonym. Adell writes unconventional love stories about fierce women and their numerous male suitors. Because let's be honest, we need more than one to satisfy our multi-dimensional needs. Right? Ryan simply puts up with Adell's crazy fantasies and toots her horn regularly. Occasionally he'll add in a shoulder pat, and a deep, sexy "Damn that's good stuff."

That southern boy (bless him) stole this northern girl's heart and they live together in the deep south, raising their three boys. When Adell isn't writing she's homeschooling — primarily working on dictation, making sure they say 'creek' instead of 'crick' and 'fire' instead of 'fer.' She also dabbles in photography and graphic design. Oh yeah, and reading. Every. Night. Much to Ryan's dismay. Sometimes she puts the steamy stuff down and gives him a quick kiss on the forehead though.

This book has been on my wishlist for quite some time already and a couple of months ago I decided to get it. I mean, cute guys, science and an interesting tale about genetics. There are not that many things screaming to be my thing like this. And, since I needed a Sci-Fi book for that reading challenge I've been talking about a lot, I finally had a very good reason to pick this book up and to start reading.

And this book was everything I had hoped it would be! As promised when I asked for recs, the four guys are all very sweet and caring. For once there is no heavy alpha male stupidity. These guys are not trying to be tough or strong. They actually are willing to talk about things, they really put our leading lady first and they care about her. I'm not in love with them yet, but I'm sure that it might happen during one of the next books!

I also really liked the heroine of this story. I had to giggle quite a few times cause we seemed to have a lot in common. We're both Scorpios, her job looks a lot like what I studied and although I'm not an empath I am highly sensitive. Of course, she also has a few flaws, but they didn't bother me at all. Even more, I thought they made her more human. I like how she thought things through, even though that didn't always lead to the best decision. On top of that I liked how she asked questions and was willing to follow her heart.

And last but not least, the plot and world are just as interesting as I had hoped they would be! I have the feeling that we only got a glimpse of everything, but we know that something is very wrong and that something about her and the guys is a little weird. I'm very curious to explore the rest of the world, to meet more people on the run and to figure out what's really going on. I'm very sure that the next books are gonna give me all that!

I bought this one back in 2018, and finally got around to reading it. And it was really good!
I'm not entirely sure what's happening beyond government conspiracy, but that's what the rest of the series is for!
Thessaly is against the new government mandates that everyone has to have themselves genetically tested, and their DNA results recorded in a national database. She's avoiding authorities and hiding out at her best friend's house when she gets kidnapped.
Thessaly is a very forgiving character. As an empath, I think it's better for her to let go of emotions than hold onto them when she gets overloaded so easily. But still, at least demand some grovelling first.
I wasn't big on some of the parallels that were drawn, but I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. There's not a huge amount happening, but the pages just flew by. It's a bit instalove, but everything is mostly justified (I assume more is uncovered as this series goes) and the chemistry in here is amazing. You can see the connection building between the characters and I can't wait to see where it goes.

“Something big is going on… we just don’t know what yet.”

This is the sentence that spoiled this whole book for me.

The year is 2044. The government is doing DNA tests to determine people’s mutations and our heroine and heroes don’t really know why, as a result we also don’t find out from this book. All they know is that the rating system for individual’s mutation scores high where there’s bad mutation and low for those closer to perfect genes. In their own words, those with high mutation score are at higher risk of “life threatening” conditions and weaker immune systems.

The biggest fail of this book for me is not the premise or the way the story is told. The biggest fail is the stupidity behind the premise and because of this I could not enjoy the story because my mind kept on taking me back to that question "why are they so scared of the tests, when they don’t even know what the tests are for?" I sort of have compulsive tendencies and once I get stuck on a certain detail, I cannot properly move forward because of that nagging feeling that keeps on taking me back. That’s what happened to me with this book. Even though their adventures on the run were kinda fun to read, I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no point because they shouldn’t actually be on the run in the first place.

Premise is intriguing, application is problematic

I REALLY wanted to enjoy this book. I adore RH, especially with a fantasy or sci-fi element. I loved the blurb and was excited to read Perfect. I could BARELY make it through reading it in its entirety...yup, that’s how annoying I found the characters. Here’s the “rub,” the RH IMO revolves successfully around the female lead and her guys. Usually the guys are already friends, or they work things out to form a cohesive “unit” around the heroine. Thessaly, our intrepid 22 year old heroine annoyed me so much that it was hard to get behind her actions and decisions. In addition I disliked her harem. Jax was an arrogant a&& who was unrepentant about is actions and acted as if the world owed him something. Bram, Thessaly’s supposed “best friend” and confidante for 10 years suddenly decides to partake in a kidnapping all because a group of guys say there is some nefarious government plan? Oh and Thessaly forgives him JUST LIKE THAT?! Yes I get that she’s empathic and senses the guys (and Bram) are telling the truth and are remorseful, but she can only feel what they’re feeling, not WHY they’re feeling what they’re feeling, thus, Bram could be feeling guilty and upset because he got caught!! Heck, there is little to no explanation as to why and how Thessaly has these “powers”/mutations, save a very very vague prologue that explains NOTHING! We are thrust into a government scientific conspiracy that is also unexplained, but we’re expected to just “get it” and take these guys aka kidnappers words for it...and just suddenly accept them as the guys Thessaly is meant to be with. This might interest readers who don’t look too deeply into the development and background of a story (ie the larger picture) but I just kept on reading WAITING for the ah-ha moment and for the characters to finally show some natural chemistry toward one another instead of “zap I’m tingling, I feel drawn to them...but I shouldn’t,” it was literally cringe worthy at times how Thessaly talked about physically being drawn to the guys like instant lust/affection when everything else suggested that she didn’t like these men (except for Bram, who was yuck in my opinion) and they thought she was a brat in turn. No, this is a book that had a great concept but absolutely no development and fleshing out. It fell flat right past the blurb.

Epic new series

I really enjoyed this book. Thessaly lives I a world where the government takes and catalogues peoples DNA in the hopes of eradicating mutations. However, what sounds to be an altruistic endeavor becomes nefarious for those who are outliers.

I found Thessaly to be an interesting character, who was strong willed and opinionated. Each of the guys characters were well defined and had their own unique voice.

I would definitely recommend giving Adell Ryan a shot! For a new author this book was amazingly well written with a clear and complex plot!

Intriguing

Dystopian or altered future, this is a RH that fits a scientific void in the genre while still having a slightly PNR feel. Slow burn and rather intense, it hooks from the beginning and drags you into a government conspiracy and an unknown evolution. Fascinating.

Super in love with this book. The guys are all great characters and I sure have my favorites! I may have one major dislike when it comes to a certain guy, but they are all well-developed! Thessaly is fun and I like her personality throughout the book. Plus my nerdy side rejoiced at the whole science aspect. Can’t wait for the sequel! Five glittery stars!

This is a very interesting book. It took me a minute to get into it but once I did I couldn't put it done. Thessley and the boys are all unique and struggling with thier feelings for each other and the pending government deadline.

Thessaly has an average life. Normal parents, normal friends, normal college life. Nothing special. However, the government disagrees. On January 27, 2044, the DNA Networking Act was set into action. This new law provides those in authority to gather genetic information from citizens in an effort to achieve nationwide resistance to diseases and other weaknesses. Thessaly is not a fan of this forced testing and plans to avoid it if at all possible. Right up until she is kidnapped. It seems she's been flagged for her potential scores. But it's not the government who has kidnapped her; it's her potential matches.

I couldn't decide how to rate this. On the plus side, I loved the concept. Big Brother Government always makes a compelling story in my view. This story is full of moral gray areas which I love. The characters are all basically fleshed out although I am hoping we get to know them even better as the series progresses. Thessaly's empath ability and its "contagiousness " is a strong story point and when she's not acting out, Thessaly is likable enough. The idea of fated mates is appealing. However, on the negative side, the RH wasn't successful. Thessaly and Bram feel real. Too bad this relationship was put on the backburner to push the others forward. I think this was a mistake. I would have cemented it before moving on with the other guys. Not only would it have been logical, Thessaly and Bram had the only relationship that rang true. One felt like friendship with attraction at most (Jax). One seemed forced (Julian). And one seemed like cheating (Tobias).

The writing is easy to follow and entertaining enough to hold attention. But it needs to be refined some. There are some messy plot holes. It didn't make sense to drug Thessaly and set the wrong tone right from the beginning. She was with her best friend. Have Bram explain. Have the other guys come over if she needs more information. The cloak and dagger kidnapping was so not necessary. I don't understand how Thessaly was flagged before her blood was tested? Her parents were strong-armed from the beginning, so it wasn't from their initial results. What am I missing? Will we find out more about the others who are also against the government testing? It was implied there is a whole network. How have they stayed completely under the radar? And why? Opposition groups usually take a public stand. I love sci-fi but I demand that it be intelligent. I don't mind suspending reality as long as it follows its own set of rules.

Wow!!!

This book is so freaking amazing!!! Thessaly has definitely moved to my top five favorite heroines in a romance. I love how she interacts with the guys and her sense of humor is awesome! This author is an incredible storyteller and I love the premise of the book. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!!!!

This is probably the best book I've read in 2018 so far! Such a fast paced, emotional novel.
We follow Thessaly, 22, an empath, as she tries to discover the truth. She's avoided the new law for maditory genetic testing because she feels it infringes on freedoms for people and herself. Is this her greatest idea or biggest mistake?
Suddenly, everything changes when Thessaly is abducted! Now, she's surrounded by four guys. Three strangers and her best friend! They have their own theory as to the real truth the government isn't telling you. While trying to find the truth, Thessaly must decide who to trust, the government that she's been wary about or her best friend, who helped the others abduct her. The more Thessaly is with them, the more strange things begin to happen, the more she also must fight her growing attraction to them all!
What should she do? Do they feel the same? Does she trust her gut feelings? As things heat up with the group they must search out the truth.
Adell Ryan gives mix of well fleshed out characters, constant action, suspense, wonder and excitement. She adds in drama, passion, pain with sci-fi and conspiracy for the perfect recipe.
I laughed, cried, gasped in fear and suspense and my heart was pounding. I just couldn't put it down! I love this book so much and I can't wait for the next one!!!

Characters
- Thessaly, 22, a woman with a spine of steal and a soft heart.
- Bram, the best friend. He's always been there for her. She's has fought her growing attraction to him
through the years because she didn't want to lose what they had.
- Tobias, the leader. He's smart and feels comfortable to Thessaly, he's the most closed off in the group.
- Jax, the playboy. His easy charm and good looks challenge her. He's such a flirt and they play well
together.
- Julian, the sexy Italian. The chemistry with him is of the charts with Thessaly from the beginning. When
he speaks Italian, she melts!

Setting
- Future America, 2044.

Plot
- In 2044, the government in acts a new law. The DNA Networking Act. This new law gives the authorities the right to gather genetic information from citizens. Citizens have until the Jan 27, 2044 to voluntarily be tested. The government says it's to achieve a nationwide resistance to diseases and weakness, but is this true? Thessaly is unsure and must find the truth and who's to be trusted.

RH Factor
- Perfect is a nice slow burn that melts from the inside out.

Recommend
- I would recommend this book to people who enjoy RH, sci-fi, conspiracy, suspense or drama.
Would I read the the next one?

Most definitely!

I read this on Kidle unlimited first, after enjoying it so much I purchased it.

I was unsure how I felt about this book. The lack of a real backstory about what is really going on in the world during this time makes the plot line really confusing. From what I can tell the “bad guys” are the government and due to a recent discovery in the breakdown of DNA and genetics they are taking “mandatory” blood samples from people to use to identify certain mutations in their genetics. Not much info is given about what exactly they are looking for or why other than a high score is a lot of mutations and a low score is very few, and the fewer mutations the better leading to higher IQ, and decreased chances of getting diseases. A huge ethical dilemma presents itself due to the “mandatory” way the government is basically strong arming and blackmailing people to get their samples. The most confusion comes from why these boys and this female are for some reason paired up due to these scores and then they discover they have a crazy almost supernatural connection. Not enough information is given as to what the program is trying to achieve, the impression being a possible genetically enhanced future? Maybe? I feel like some major plot holes need to be filled. I feel like this book started out with an almost dystopian feel and then decided to give it some reverse harem from like chapter 8 onward then at the very end it’s like bam plot line time. So the real questions I’m left with are why and what are they actually running from, what is up with their weird supernatural connection to each other, and where the heck is this story going lol?

Perfect is perfect!

I've been putting off this read for quite some time now because I knew, the minute I read the excerpt, that one was just not going to be enough. I was absolutely correct. The wait for the second installment, even as short as it will be, is going to be excruciating! First things first, Adel Ryan, 143 for creating such an amazing story 😉 I am completely hooked! This Is officially my new crack. In a steadily growing genre full of talented authors, it's an amazing thing when you find one that stands out in the crowd. This plot is so intriguing and unique, I am literally in despair wanting and waiting to know more about this new world you've created and the future of it. I am way too emotionally invested in these characters already and that is entirely your fault! #whychoose all day, but #teamjax forever
In all seriousness though, this series will undoubtedly continue to be epic! With a story line that sucks you in so deep, the world around you falls away and a plot so satisfying, you've actually enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster. Plus characters that are inevitably and completely loveable or as equally hateable, you can expect nothing less than epicness. This one goes high on the reread list! ❤

Really like it.

Utopianesque. Bringing down the government. NA. Rh. 4 guys. Smart, Quirky, Funny heroine. Thessaly is a normal girl just trying to keep her freedom of choice. She's been dodging "suggested" blood draws but as she has witnessed, they are not anyone's choice. And they are after her blood more than anyone's. After dodging the "vampires" at her home, she goes to her bf's house. Where she should be safe but, she's blindfolded and drugged. Waking up, Thessaly finds herself with a group of four guys. All are attractive and all seem to have a pull on her being. They tell her, her name along with theirs was on a scientific governmental list and it wasn't a good thing. That she need to help them or their lives could be forfeit. Wanting to see why the government wants her, Thessily says yes. I would definitely recommend reading this. Its well planned and written. The characters have depth all ready and you are just meeting them. This is an excellent first book in the series. Only problem I had was if felt more like a YA , their reactions where based more on emotion than logic. Other than that I really liked it and look forward to reading the next one.

Perfect (Her Reverse Genus) Book 1 – Adell Ryan
I picked this up as it is recommended as a Reverse Harem of which I am a fan. Whilst it is definitely RH it is not fast paced and if you’re looking for steamy, this is not is. It falls into the category of Romance NOT Erotica.
It’s a scary story that borderlines reality meets art IMO. It could happen. If you like big brother is watching stories (the government NOT an actual brother) then this story will intrigue you!
It’s about basic freedoms being corroded in the future (near-ish, like 2044) and DNA interference in human breeding. All stuff that fascinates the average citizen and is considered fiction, but IMO is not that far-fetched.
Thessaly is 22 and our FMC. She is the (almost) perfect human specimen (genetically speaking) and her RH of four guys are sub-standard. They all come together on a crazy road trip to find out why the government are hunting them.
The plot flows smoothly throughout and this author’s writing style is easy to read. The ‘romance’ was a little too PG for my tastes, but the fact v fiction story line is very catchy.
My first time reading with this author. I gave it three stars.

This book was okay for me. I just wasn't in love with it.

I liked the MC and the guys To me in rh books the guys have to really stand out. They all loved her and wanted to take care of her.

Now, for me what I don't care for is the whole plot.
I did not really understand the whole storyline. I still don't get exactly why she is soooo special she needs protecting.
Also, insta-love happens in literally a matter of days of knowing her, and the way she acts around them all. It's because she is an empath she reads emotions and they are starting to feel her too. etc.
I personally love when rh books are more slow burn and the guys are taking longer to be accepting of all of it. That's just my option. I know it's fantasy book, but to me there needs to be friendship/protectivness before the girl gets all hot and heavy with any of the guys. And, the ways she acts around them is interesting. I mean she has known them for a few days! except Bram

I am curious to where the story goes so I plan to read the next book in the series.

Can’t wait for book 2!

This book is very intriguing. What happens when the government fully takes over? This book is a little futuristic and I love it! It’s not so futuristic that there are flying cars, but every car that isn’t ran off Diesel is now electric. Everything is ran off of sustainable energy. Every piece of land is accounted for and put to some sort of good use, like conservation, if it is unoccupied for a certain amount of time. Sounds great right? Well, now the Government want blood samples from everyone! They are trying to crack the gene code and perfect Humanity. Our lead in this book, Thess, wants NOTHING to do with it! And she gets involved with a group that is trying to figure out what the Government really wants everyone’s blood for and what the scores attached to their files really means! There is some romance along the way, nothing too outlandish, but still very steamy! Buy this book, get it from the library, get it from a friend, JUST GET IT! You won’t be disappointed!

Interesting world building

This book is good. It offers an interesting take on government intervention in a urban, contemporary setting but with a twist. That twist is the MFC and her blood type and ability as an empath. It was fun reading about her connection to each guy. I do have a favorite guy but I think its cause of the feelings shown in this book. I believe the next book will allow us readers to get to know the other characters better.

Slight spoiler ahead:

The only thing I didn't like is a personal preference. I'm not a big fan of friends to lovers romance. I don't see how a person can either be in love with the other but not say anything or how they do not know they want the another one until it's almost to late. Does this fact take away from this story? For me, yes. For the story in general, no.

Will I read the next book? Yes. I'm eagerly awaiting it.

Do I recommend it? Yes.

Does it read like a traditional NA romance? Yes.

Yes! A new futuristic and human genetics materials

This was a new rh scifi that caught me by its blurb. It was something I was fond of nowadays.

Set in the future, or what could have been in the future, Perfect was easily light on the science and more into Thess and her four guys. That was not to say that the science behind wasn't explored. But I think more of that would be on the next book instead.

So the first half was great but I kept being distracted so I very much preferred the second half. It felt like it picked up more on that esp during their stay in Robbie's establishment.

The story, at least for now, was pretty simple. Very easy to read and had a neat writing style. This was my first read from the author so I would very much like to expore her other works, if ever.

All in all, I think it was great and would def read book 2.

Confusing book.

First off my rating is 2.5 stars but Amazon don't allow that. This book is very confused. At first it seems like we're dealing with a weird Stockholm syndrome story. Girl get kidnapped by four hot men. Feels a connection and ends up loving all of them in a twisted way. But then it switches into a sci go conspiracy story involving government agencies after them and empathic abilities. However, at no point in the book is it ever explained why the agency are after the girl. Just something to do with her DNA. I am assuming that detail will come out in later books. But I for one will not be reading any other books in this series and on this book I will not be reading anything else from this author.

Perfect was a great start to the Her Reverse Genus series. It's set in the future which was great - electric cars and burner cards! Thess was a great character and her boys - Bram, Tobias, Jax and Julian are all swoon worthy! Thess and Bram are best friends, but then she is kidnapped. Turns out Bram was in on the kidnapping act, along with the 3 others. It doesn't take her long to forgive and get onside with the boys. She doesn't want to give her DNA sample so she is on the run - with her boys. Plenty of action and intrigue and they all care deeply for Thess. They all need to work through their feelings, whilst trying to beat the deadline - and keep family alive. I'm looking forward to book 2!

Thess and Bram end up on the run with Julian Jax and Tobias...

I absolutely adore these characters and their dynamic, the author took her time to delve into each of them and I feel connected to them!

I’d rate this book a 3.75 though because while the plot is good the premise really lost me. I was thoroughly confused by the DNA scores (though I’m a bit like Thess where I glaze over about such things, so we’ll call it reader error). I loved the romantic interactions between the characters but the disconnect (however personal that problem may be) will probably keep me from continuing the series at least for now.

I am curious to see what other work the author has to provide as most of the boom was thoroughly enjoyable!

This author is very new to me and I am pleasantly surprised! The world setting is a very plausible near future! The MC's in this story go from a relatively happy care free life to imminent danger in a very short space of time. In a world where the government seems to have absolute control with little regard to personal freedoms it is easy to go off grid! Now the group has to learn how to survive and depend on each other for support! The characters start off with some inner strength but are still fairly innocent. It will be interesting to see how this group melds as the attraction grows and additional problems appear! Looking forward to the next instalment in this series!

I when I reach for a book sci-fi is not normally my first grab however this book I could not put this book down! Thessaly and the guys an totally enthralling from beginning to end, they kept me on the edge of my seat. They ideas for this future presented are plausible and we could definitely head that as a society we could end up in a similar situation. While adding elements of danger and intrigue the start of this series will leave you wanting more without an infuriating cliffhanger. Medium burn.

Ok, Adell, now I understand reverse harm. There was more sexual tension in this book, than 17 year olds on prom night! Wow!

By the time I got to chapter 35, I was hooked! The descriptions in this book are hauntingly beautiful. (I am not an empath, but now I understand what it could be like for those who are. ). The way all of the characters describe their feelings is mesmerizing. It may sound funny, putting my thoughts out here. It’s true though.

Adell, my dear, you have a wonderful way with words.

Thessaly went to stay with her best friend Bram when she was taken. But things weren’t as she thought. Now she was on the run with Bram, Julian, Jax and Tobias because The NAB or The COMMIES were trying to get her blood and do something with all of them together. Thessaly and her four guys are running but just who are they running from? This was such a fast paced book. I couldn’t put it down. The only complaint I have is I have to wait for the next book!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I liked this but ...

This book was made up of a lot of unrealized ideas. (Aka plot holes) it's was an interesting concept, but the actions and story progression was illogical at times. We know the government wants Thessily because of the reverse genome, but it was never revealed why she was paired with the guys. There were so many unanswered questions the book felt unfinished. Furthermore, it made no sense that the guys had to kidnap her instead of just having Bram drive her somewhere for a conversation. Like I said ... Illogical.

So the government is taking everyone's DNA for some new program. Our MC doesn't love this but what can you do. A group of guys kidnap Thessaly and inform her that all of their files have been flagged and linked together. Then they go on the "run", which basically just means they obnoxiously flirt with each other. But obviously they are all completely obsessed with one another right off the bat...zero rhyme, reason or explanation. The little there was about the alleged government conspiracy was so few and far between that it was impossible to follow. Definitely not for me.
