Fate was a fickle mistress. She gave Sophie immortality, magic, and a great tolerance for whisky. She also made sure Sophie tasted death, made sure it clung to her bones, sank into her marrow. She gave Sophie power that came from death and brought death with it. Her own. And everyone she knew and loved. If she didn't learn to control it, that was. She had been meaning to pencil it in, but the apocalypse had been licking at her combat boots and she got busy. But she was kicking magical butt, because she was awesome. Then the witch discovered the one thing she couldn't handle, the one thing that would offer complete destruction. A wolf. Her wolf. Broken. Dangerous. Wild. His life tangled up in hers, without a choice from either of them. A fault in fate, bringing two broken, wild, and dangerous immortals together. Sophie quite literally screwed the pooch on this one.
Anne Malcom has been an avid reader since before she can remember, her mother responsible for her book addiction. It started with magical journeys into the world of Hogwarts and Middle Earth, then as she grew up her reading tastes grew with her. Her obsession with books and romance novels in particular gave Anne the opportunity to find another passion, writing. Finding writing about alpha males and happily ever afters more fun than reading about them, Anne is not about to stop any time soon.
I liked the heroine a lot.. She was a cool, strong ASF woman. My kind of woman. Who did not bend over for anyone. She was a bit of a bitch to the hero and I loved it, I'm tired of weak pathetic heroine who would do anything for the heroes. I would have rate it 5 stars it wasn't for this. To some it may not bother them but it did bother me a bit.
I ended up liking the hero, he was a good one, always there for her when she needed it even though she didn't need any protection from him, it was cute how he would get between her and any danger that she was in but he quickly realized she was a badass woman that didn't really need protection but that still didn't stop him from trying to be there for her.
Some quotes from the badass heroine “Penetration does not mean ownership, capisce?”
“And this isn’t me playing hard to get, or the start of some adorable back and forth where you chase the girl and she finally surrenders and you live happily ever after. I don’t do happily ever afters. They give me a stomachache. And I don’t surrender.”
Sophie rolled her eyes. “Can you be any more cliché? That’s what every fucking guy says after he hurts the woman he ‘loves.”
“You can’t lose something you’ve never had, wolf,” she said”
This review is going to be a little different because you have to read books one and two in this series to follow along and to understand what is happening in this book so I don’t want to write a synopsis in this review and throw anyone off. What I will say is that this book is amazing. I want more, I want to learn more about the characters, more about their story and more of what is to come. This series is so detailed and so much time and depth has been put into creating all of these charters, it’s like they actually lived their lives so the story just needed told.
I can’t recommend this book enough. The extent of actual story in this series reminds me a lot of the Karen Moning Morning Fever series. Is this book/series like that series? Not at all but if you have read that series you understand the depth and detail of that story and that’s what I am talking about. When you think Anne Malcom can’t add more into this book/series you push your page button and are blown away with yet more detail in this book.
This series is special, I’ve said it before that PR/UF will always have a special place in my heart and these books, this book is why. Reading this book I was transported to Sophie and Conolls story. To Isla and Thorne and everyone else you so easily fall in love with. I want more, and I can’t wait for more. I think sometimes because us book lovers read so much we have authors and books we love but because it’s frowned upon to kidnap said authors and lock them in rooms to make sure they write faster we have to pull ourselves away from that series/author we love so that we can wait for that next book. But then you pick up that new book in the series and your sucked right back in and your world becomes these characters world and everything is so real and so important. That’s the sign of a great author and an amazing series and book and that what happens every single time I pick up a book from Anne Malcom.
I can’t recommend this book/series enough. Sophie’s story is everything you could hope for and more. Because she’s Isla’s friend it’s hilarious, these two are like none other when they get together. Connoll, what can I say about him? The world can fall to ruin and he not care as long as Sophie is ok. I loved learning more about him. All that matters is Sophie and destroying anyone who wants to hurt her. I can’t wait to see what happens next. There’s so much more to come and I have no clue how this will all end, all I can say is there is nothing that can stop me from reading it and finding out.
Oh. Em. Gee!! I love Sophie. I love Conall. I love this series. Oh. Em. Gee!!
Sophie was so sassy and delusional and sarcastic and rude and yet she was really endearing. It could be because beneath it all, it was easy to see how huge her heart was. She’s holding this incredible power inside, not sure how to control it, it reeks of death (hers and her friends), and yet she tries so hard to do it on her own because there’s enough going on. You know, the whole apocalypse and everything. She’s been on her own for over 200 hundred years so what else is new. What she didn’t count on is her very own wolf. Witches and wolves do not mix. Or at least they never used to. But no matter how hard she tries (and she tries HARD), she can’t shake him loose. He’s found his mate and he’s not going anywhere.
Conall started out all growly and silent, brooding and scary, but once his personality started to shine through, it was hard not to fall for him. Broken and alone, an exiled king of his pack, he never thought he’d find his person. To find out his mate is a witch didn’t compute. Until it became a fact that he couldn’t deny. So while she continues to put herself in danger, she’s got her own personal wolf-shaped shadow. When the power she tries very hard not to tap into starts to take her over, he’s the one that always brings her back. Their lives are now intertwined and pretty soon it’s impossible to see one without the other. They have both proven the lengths they will go to protect the other and their love knows absolutely no bounds. So what happens when Sophie can see that the end is near?
Honestly, this entire series so far has been fantastic and this novella was buttercream frosting with red velvet cake. I am so in love with Sophie and Conall and their fated love. I wish there was more to this book because I was far from done with them. At least I know I’ll see them again in the next book to come.
Omg I LOVE Sophie and her wolf! She is such a badass and he is the ultimate alpha hero. I can’t wait to see how this plays out and what is going to happen next in this story! If you like suspenseful, sexy reads that are so wrong that it’s so right, you’ve got to check out the Vein Chronicles!
Genre: - Paranormal Romance Series: - Novella in between book 2 and 3 Love triangle? - Cheating? - HEA? - Would I read more by this author/or in this series? - Yes Rating - 5++ stars
★Review★
I love this series. For me it is the BEST thing this author has written.
Paranormal suits her style for me more than contemporary. (I do really enjoy her other series but find they get a bit overly "wordy" and "metaphory" (yes I know it is not a word) for me yet I do not mind that in a paranormal.)
And I adored Isla and here adored Sophie as a heroine.
Loved the hero in all his sullenness and grumpiness.
And I love how unapologetic she has made her heroines in this series. A vampire, or here a witch that knows their own strengths, and does not feel the need to hide them. They know they are strong, stronger even than the hero due to the nature of what they are.
This series is amazing. And so very different from any other paranormal series I have read (indeed I had stopped reading paranormal for years). It felt like every other paranormal series was full of innocent little heroines, get into some sort of trouble, saved by a vampire/wolf/whatever and "turned" and it simply the hero's mate for ever more.
You do have to have read book 1 and 2 of the series to read this novella, but this adds a little bit more to the series while filling in some gaps.
Love it. favourite series I have read in years.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
So let me begin...and its a great beginning! The pnr lovers of us know that when a wolf finds his mate that he has to claim her in the biblical sense. Now that's what I needed.
And I got it.
It actually made my undies melt. Death by sex. What a way to go!
Her wolf.....I'm not going to say much apart from hello Mr Strong and Silent! And piccolo guerriero, made me melt more!
And now I want more. I need to know all the details about Sophies wolf!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it m. Thank you Anne Malcom!
This is why I love PNR. Perfectly executed, and flawless. I loved this so hard and it was a novella! That’s because Anne Malcom is a witch with words *wink*. She puts the reader under her spell and keeps them captive for the entirety of the novel.
I love The Vein Chronicles, and this novella about Isla’s bestie, Sophie, was just as fabulous as their senses of style - which is epic by the way. This story has the same atmospheric aspects as the other books in the series. What I mean is that, even though we follow Sophie and not Isla, and the plot is witch oriented and not Vampire oriented, the same essence comes from reading it; it FEELS like they’re in the same series and that the books belong together. Like two puzzle pieces, or much more paranormal and cool analogy I have no brainpower for right now.
Sophie is such an awesome and entertaining character to follow. It’s her turn to have the spotlight, and I loved every second. Her sass paired with her killer style and wit is what got me. Add a sexy werewolf into the mix, and we’ve got a home run - which is what Malcom’s done if you didn’t catch that.
This book totally got me pumped for the third installment in the Vein Chronicles. If you haven’t started them yet, what are you waiting for?
Ohh I love this getting to know Sophie more and her wolf! This series is amazing and I’m so happy the author gave us so witch happiness! Definitely read book 1 and 2 and then this one so everything makes sense! 5/5 stars
Sophie is a kick ass witch, a rebel, who goes against everything. If you tell her not to do something? She'll do it out of spite and do it looking fabulous. She lives her life on her own terms, dresses and acts how she sees fit. She is loyal to her friends and those she calls family. Her best friend is an equally kick ass and stylish vampire warrior Isla. Together they have to fight ancient curses, add in the wolf who is destined to be Sophie's mate. Sophie as normal fights the attraction tooth and nail, but Conall is the typical alpha wolf, who lives for her, to protect her to own her. There is ancient curse attached to Sophie and she keeps it to herself hoping she can find a way out of it before that curse comes true. I went from laughing one moment, to "aww", You go girl". I love all the characters in this series. Wish I had women like Sophie and Isla having my back if needed.
*This Novella is part of the Vein Chronicles series. Be sure to start with Fatal Harmony & Deathless before reading Faults in Fate.
Typically, PNR is not my thing. But being a huge fan of Anne Malcom, I started the Vein Chronicles series... and quickly became completely enthralled! Isla, Thorne, Sophie & her Wolf... even Scott. Such great characters!! Isla and Sophie are the perfect bff team - Snarky to the core!
In this novella, we get "behind the scenes" detail from both FA & Deathless. And we really get a good look at Wolf, aka Conall. He is a true Alpha Male masterpiece! Very similar to the relationship between Isla & Thorne, Sophie likes to pretend she doesn't need Conall... or gasp...love him. But we can see right through her act. And who could blame her??
My only complaint is that I want MORE! Luckily for us, Eternity's Awakening is coming!
Faults in Fate is part of the Vein Chronicles and goes alongside of Fatal Harmony & Deathless.. and I literally screamed when I saw this gem on my kindle! Because Sophie..I just LOVE her in all her sarcastic & snarky witchy goodness...I love her relationship with Isla and I seriously love her wolf in all his determined, alpha glory 😍 Seriously, these two were 🔥🔥
Faults in Fate answered a lot of questions that I had from the previous installments of this series and even though my only wish was for this novella to have lasted longer it definitely gets me even more excited for Eternity's Awakening! I definitely recommend this novella and this series to any and everyone 💋
I loved this book. If you have read the rest of the Vein Chronicles you will adore t this closer look into Sophie and her witchy awesomeness. This is what happens when you put a really snarky witch and a very determined werewolf together. I love Anne Malcolm's writing style and the way she writes her characters. This novella was the perfect peek into Sophie's goings on. This whole series is a must for any PNR fan.
I am so happy that Anne decided to give us some more of Sophie. We definitely needed more of this sassy Witch. She found her match in a sexy Wolf. Sophie is a sexy alpha chick who can put an overly Alpha beast in his place. This novella was a great addition to the Vein Chronicles series.
What an amazing surprise this was!!!! Sophie and her Wolf were hot. I loved this story.
We got so much background and context to past events. Simply amazing. Sophie and Isla make me laugh out loud all the time. They are both great characters with great sense of humors. Wolf is hot, I loved everything about him and I hope we see alot more of him when the next book in the series comes out. Especially with what Sophie see's in the future. I only wish it was longer so we could see how their relationship develops. Even with it being a novella it was great and I totally recommend!!!
I squealed out loud when I spotted this novella on my IPad. Sophie was one of my favourite characters from the first two books in the Vein Chronicles. She is a powerful witch but I have always wondered if this power comes with a dark price. There's more Sophie than meets the eye.
Then along comes Conall the unexpected but delicious werewolf & this story takes a whole other turn. The turn into combust your Ipad, new panties required, sexy times town!!! Gah these two together, he gives the very best swoon - I mean "piccolo guerriero" - give me strength!!! I can't wait for more of them.
A bewitchingly wonderful read from read from Anne Malcom! I have been so curious about Sophie since I first read Fatal Harmony... And I became even more curious when she found her wolf in Deathless.
This book answered all of my questions and left me impatiently wanting more!
I have said this before, but the author has taken the paranormal world and made it her own... And she has OWNED it!
What a lovely and unexpected surprise this little novella was! I’ve wanted Sophie’s story for a while now and was so thrilled to see this lovely little morsel. Anne Malcom is at the top of her game. I have no idea how she can create such vastly different books but still write some of the best, and most creative, stories I’ve read. Faults in Fate is like a small branch off the Vein Chronicles tree.
Sophie is a trip and I seriously was obsessed with the witch-side of the story. I had so much fun with this novella. The sass is strong with her and she’s so incredibly entertaining. I was tickled with Conall too. Who knew a werewolf could be sexy?! I really think the way he had Sophie on this pedestal was what I loved the most. He thinks the world of her and as long as she is safe and happy… the world can cave in around them. I love that love!
I feel like Faults in Fate was the BEST way to get me hyped up for the next book in the Vein Chronicles and I feel like I’m foaming from the mouth now… I guess I’ll fit right in with this group! This paranormal type of story doesn’t usually pull me in or interest me but Ms. Malcom is incredible in the way she tells a story and her characters are just way too fascinating to ever put away. I’m always enthralled with this series and getting more information on two of the most interesting characters, but not the normal main characters, is just great! I feel like this entire series could be a television show and these characters would be amazingly hot, sexy, and seriously fashionable!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
Faults in Fate is a novella in Anne Malcom’s The Vein Chronicles series and follows the loveable, sassy, wicked and kicka** Witch Sophie.
I could wait to read this book to follow Sophie and the Wolf, but I was a little disappointed with it. I loved Sophie in Fatal Harmony and Deathless but I found her to be a bit of a b*tch in this book. She is still the powerful, kicka**, sassy witch we know and love, but I felt she was too selfish and nasty towards Conall. I understand she loves and wants her independency and she felt that Conall was taking that away, but I was very disappointed and not happy with the coven scene, that was very uncalled for.
Having said that, I do feel absolutely terrible for Sophie and her future and with the darkness lurking, I do hope she opens up to Conall and Isla soon, as they all make a better team when there is no secrets.
Oh, boy, oh, boy. Did I really love this book. Anything and everything Anne Malcom writes, I love. But, this book was a little special. I’ve always loved Sophie. It takes a special kind of person to befriend and go toe-to-toe with a person like Isla.
Sophie had it all! I loved her rocker style, sass, and just all around badassery. This was a wonderful and informative novella for the Vein Chronicles. Gave us tons of information on Sophie’s whereabouts throughout the first two books, and FINALLY let us know what was going on with her “piccolo lupo.”
**le sigh** where can I sign up for a sexy alpha werewolf?? Conall was so much fun to read about. His broody and silent ways had me laughing at Sophie— a girl who couldn’t shut up to save her life, lol. Their chemistry was off the charts! I wanted to throttle Sophie a few times and yell at her, “JUST FREAKING BEG ALREADY!!!”
The ending was ridiculous! I want to know more!! I love a good cliffhanger, and the last two sentences in the book had me gasping and yelling, “oh, sh*t!!” Amazing! Everything Malcom is always the best. I can’t wait to read more in Eternity’s Awakening and then eventually getting more books focused on Sophie and Conall. I’m craving more of them right now!!
Let’s just say I wish this Novella was longer. I absolutely love Sophia, I’m pretty sure I even like her more than Isla and she’s pretty bad ass as well. This is book 2.5 of the Vein Chronicles so if you haven’t read book 1 and 2 you should probably get on it.
Book 2 introduced, well mentioned the sexy werewolf that we got to see in this Novella and I really like him as well. I seriously hope we can get more back story on him in the future I mean the ending coming from his POV has me wanting more.
The love.... Their relationship is like love at first sight which I’m usually not into but hey he’s a werewolf so when you meet your one true mate who’s to argue. The fact she fights tooth and nail to deny the fact she’s already his pretty much from the beginning just contributes to the fact she’s already his.
Please please please I need more of Sophia and Conall. I’m admitting it. I love them more than I do Isla and Thorne but hey on to book 3 which I have an early copy of, thanks to winning a FB contest as well as this Novella and the first 2 books!
This is Sophie’s story of finding her true love. It runs parallel with the timeline in Deathless. We learn more about Sophie, her powers and the darkness from within that she fights.
Conall has bound her to him. He is her wolf and after one night of animalistic pleasure she has become his forever.
Conall and Sophie are bonded whether she likes it or not. Linked to one another becaused they are fated. The only thing that can separate them is death.
And death of humanity and her vampire bff Isla is what she’s fighting for. However, she just may not be able to save herself.
I’m looking forward to find out what happens to Sophie and Conall and the rest of their crew.
Be still my beating heart!! Holy freaking hotness!! Sophie is Isla's sassy, bitch witch side kick, besties in every way! She has her work cut out trying to find and distinguish the watches that have it out for Islamic. What she hadn't planned on was the wolf, her wolf. Yep! Opposites attract and all that!! He has found his mate, regardless of the fact she is a witch!! But the heart wants what the heart wants and whether she likes it or not he will do everything he can to protect what is his! And my head and heart are mashed!! So much going on, my head literally, was spinning! Now that's a trick!!
I loved this little novella to tell a little of her story. Her and Isla are the perfect BFF's/Sisters. Always have each others backs in good time and bad. They will always tell each other the truth.
Wolf, is surprised when his "mate" is a witch and not another wolf. That didn't matter to him as he was meant to take care of her no matter what the situation. Sophie is use to being on her own and doesn't like Conall butting into her business.
Loved these 2 and would love to see more of what the future has for these 2.
Wow is all I can say. Anne Malcom is so talented anything she writes is phenomenal. Writing at its best. I am not a paranormal fan, but I must say I am blown away with Sophia and Conall. Sophia is a witch and Conall a wolf. Conall has found his mate in Sophia....Sophia however has other plans...your going to enjoy the chase in this book...and not to mention the total hotness and sexual surrender of these two...no matter what your reading preferences are.
I’m sorry but there isn’t going to be any spoilers of any kind because I’m not the type that does that. So this is all I will say about this book and that is it’s fantastic! This author Anne Malcom the way that she describes details in her books it really brings you into her worlds. It totally feels as if you are there right along with the characters, you can smell and feel everything. Be prepared for a awesome ride is all I can say. So yes I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s needing a amazing story to climb into and get lost in it.
This was amazing!! As much as I love Isla I love Sophie so much more and I was so excited to see at least a little glimpse into the life of her and the wolf.
You know all about Isla and what she goes through with her man but to see things happening with Sophie and not get an in-depth look into what she was thinking of what was really going on made me crave more!
I think Anne did an awesome job building up this awesome story and having a novella for Sophie at a perfect time!! I can’t wait to read more!!
I love Sophie, she’s awesome! This fills in loads of gaps in book three and it all falls into place beautifully with the info in this book. Sophie is as kick ass as Isla but without the stroppy attitude. That’s not to say that she isn’t going to have a fit if her heels get broken but she’s going to be doing it in style all the same. What a fantastic combination of lust and disgust, she is not going to be tamed by anything or anyone, not herself or a wolf. It’s a fantastic story, really well written, and leads into book three really well.
This book reads like the author did not do at least a cursory google search before writing it because....Like the historical inaccuracies are too much
“Well, except when Isla almost tricked Sophie into marrying Henry VIII. That was a dick move.”
Henry VIII is 1500s....ilsa was born in the 1600s, Sophie was born in 1850s. I’m annoyed to say the least. This author seems not to be able to write an orginal character. Sophie was isla but a witch there was very little differences. The only good part was the wolf, he was so fucking hot oml I loved him.
