Years into the future, volcano eruptions have destroyed most of Earth’s population and caused a drop in temperatures. To save humanity from extinction during the new Ice Age, four elemental dragons are tasked to find spirits and return Earth to its natural state.

Ten years ago, I thought a willowy woman in white “gifting” me and my three buddies with an elemental beast was a tequila-fueled dream — until I woke up as a blue dragon, supposedly with control over water. Except I can’t seem to raise so much as a ripple in the iceberg-choked sea. Worse, unlike my friends, I’m covered in scales.

Most alien Cy know not to visit my domain uninvited. But this intruder isn’t cyborg or alien. She’s a human female seeking protection. I should turn her down. I should send her home. But her innocent touch arouses my beast. And he’s not letting her go…

Rise the Seas is book 1 in a new series by Milana Jacks. As a fan of her Beast Mates series I was sad to see it come to an end but was excited to start this new series. Unfortunately I didn't like it as much as I had hoped. While I liked the concept the overall story fell flat for me. I felt there was just to much going on for my taste. First we have Dragons and Shifters who's animal was gifted from Mother Nature, possibility of future orgies, public sex, 2 penises on one male, beauty and the beast, outlaws. It just all seemed silly to me. I thought Selena was childish and Lance was just there. Now with that all said I did enjoy the concept so I will try again and read book 2.

Another great series from Milana with compelling characters and an interesting world. This time more leaning more towards the fantasy in the fantasy/sci-fi genre. With shifter dragons, birds, and wolves; alongside an actual ‘Mother Nature’ entity, there are definitely some fantastical elements in this new series. I won’t lie, shifters aren’t an easy genre for me, but Milana crafts such interesting and well-rounded characters that it keeps me on the hook.

The hero, Lance, is the water dragon, who once upon a time, saved him from death by transforming into the dragon before Lance could be swallowed up by a fire. He now sports quite a bit of dragon scales on his face and body, even in his human form, which makes him kind of recluse who doesn’t really engage with anyone. He’s quite self-conscious. Enter Selena. As humans, when the apocalyptic even happened, the cyborgs came down and saved the humans by building habitats for them to live in. Large dome structures that protect them from the harsh landscape on the outside. It’s now looked down upon to be 100% human, and humans are constantly exchanging their human parts for more and more cyborg parts. Selena is 100% human and is thus being married off to her dad’s business partner’s son, who is a level 4 cyborg. Her dad wants to ensure she’s taken care of in the future, and knows that someone who is fully human is going to live one hardship after another. But Selena is no wilting flower and is very independent and feisty, but does find herself in need of some assistance when she runs away from the arranged marriage of the level 4 cyborg, who hasn’t really shown himself to be husband material.

She runs away to the dragon island to try and come up with a plan, and this is where she meets Lance and the water dragon, which appear to be 2 separate beings as Lance still isn’t sure about revealing fully who he is.

I enjoyed these 2 as characters, and as a couple. They are both intense and passionate and have no problem speaking their mind and going after what they want. Like will all Milana books, you can look forward to an HEA. I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this series going into it, being that I’m really not a fantasy fan and this did push the boundaries for me. But I’m so glad I read it and will continue with the series.

I received a copy of this story from the author and have provided a review of my own accord.

Dark themed PNR with unexpected moments of humor

The first in a new series.

Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy adult intimate scenes with some BDSM elements of dominance, submission, restraints, deprivation, an@l play, temperature play, breath play, as well as violence such as attempted kidnapping / abduction, assault, attempted rape, betrayal, etc.

There is also a storyline of suicide. The story is shorter and begins a few days before what would be the 1 year anniversary of the mother’s death. Therefore, not a lot is mentioned other than Selena wearing black because she is still in morning.

There are a few grammatical issues, mainly incorrect and missing words. I am trying to mention these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as reading it, because errors interrupt the flow.

Milana Jacks does a good job world building an environment set in the new Ice Age. Based upon volcanos erupting, habitats being destroyed, and more volatile patterns, aliens have arrived to assist Earth if desired. Mother Nature has also gifted 4 men Dragon halves that each control a different element.

Lance is an Indigo blue Dragon that controls water, or is supposed to be able to control water. He inhabits an island and shares it with a pack of wolves and has granted shelter to others as long as they are not a Cyborg.

Selena is still 100% human, unlike her father, and most of society. Since the Cy came and offered assistance, humans have had the option to convert part, or all, of themselves to machines. They have established a societal hierarchy that requires a higher percentage of mechanical parts to advance. Levels progressed in 20% increments, so a Level 1 had a few Cyborg parts, but a Level 5 was pretty much all machine.

Selena’s father was a level 3 Cyborg and owned and operated an empire, along with a partner to make a high-end whiskey, their most profitable product. Years ago a pact was made between two families for Selena to marry the other family’s son, Diego, he would take her last name so the Salazar name wouldn’t die out, and Diego would assume control of both sides of the business.

This was supposed to take place when she turned 18. Selena’s mother helped get it changed to her 19th birthday. After agreeing to spend some time with Diego, she realized that he was a monster and she wanted no part of it at all. Her mother was unable to get Selena out of it, but she did what she could to get it postponed for another year by committing suicide.

The city has a plasma shield to help hold in the temperature. The Dragon’s island is outside the shield. Selena is trying to figure out where she could go and decides to seek shelter on the Island. She was not invited so the Dragon doesn’t know her and doesn’t want her there. Selena landed on an iceberg located next to his island and opened her sunroof so she could show the Dragon she was human … it was just in time for him to pee on her …

Rise for her, to be honest I read the blurb and got drawn in and I wasn't dissapointed true there were parts I disliked more but a lot of it I enjoyed reading and devoured in one sitting.

Selena as a character she was well developed and strong minded and independent and refused to settle for something she didn't want instead she ran away to try to find another way to live. When she met Lance I liked her disobedience and smart comments but soon enough they seemed to get lost within the story and we had a little meek character submitting to their master.

Lance was a bad-ass dragon looking for a spirit that would help him control his element, water. He found that in Selena but he also felt that she was someone he could control and enjoy within and out of the bedroom.

Overall I enjoyed the plot and where the characters began but I feel Selena was lost in her insta-love for Lance and replaced with a common sex space and as much as I enjoyed the descriptions of the sex scenes because they were well described I didn't like the way that Selena lost her stubbornness and became submissive to Lance completely. I guess that's just me though because reading about a sub and Dom can be sexy and still a good love story or it can cross lines and become a bully and his victim, this story for me played with that line keeping a foot either side so I felt annoyance not enjoyment reading it, still it was a quick read.

This review may contain spoilers!!

5/5
Fated mates trope, dragon shifter.
Set in the second ice age world.

Dual POVs; Lance and Selena
Virgin heroine!

Mild angst due to self induced doubt from past life experiences.

Quick read! They do jump into bed pretty fast 😉
Safe. No cheating. No other woman/man.
(Except for clingy dude, anti hero that won’t leave the heroine alone!😤😤)

Trigger warning? Mentions of attempt sexual assault(brief details) and suicide of side character.

Steamy smex scenes! 🌶💯
🗣dragon stud with two dicks, double penetration.

Would I re-read? I like it but unfortunately it still misses that tad bit of magic for me to re-read.

I would recommend this book! ❤️

Plenty avail

This was a cool story. I liked that she stood up for herself. She didn't let her father dictate who to marry. The Dragon was cool if not a little jaded. This was a good story and I'm glad to have found it.

I love how brave Selena is. She is going to do some hard things, but when she has to make some difficult choices, she makes a good one, I think.

Selena and Lance

The earth was destroyed by volcano eruptions. The Cy is an alien species who was hovering over earth at that time. They offered their help when Earth became like the Ice Age. The Cy made habitats(dome-like structures) that humans lived in. The temperature inside the habitats were regulated. People started to have cyborg implants placed in their bodies. The human society stated that the more implants you had, the higher in status you were.
Selena was the human daughter of a level four. They were very rich. It was arranged for her to marry another level four when she turned eighteen. Due to a few different circumstances, the date was changed to her twentieth birthday. Pure humans were bred because cy-women were more likely to miscarry. After she had a child or two, she would then have to take an implant.
She didn't want this, so she ran away to an island that hosted humans, were wolves and a dragon. The dragon was named Lance. He was one of four dragons created by mother nature after the eruptions. He was supposed to be able to control water, but not until he found his "spirit".
This is like a beauty and the beast retelling. Lance's dragon scales show on the outside of his body because of an accident, so he sees himself as a monster. The Cy world is a little confusing at first. I believe it will be detailed further the more books into the series we get. I will be watching for the next book to be out.

Where was the story??

I can appreciate a short story especially if it’s going to roll out as a series but where was the rest of this story?? To sum it up girl tries to get out of marriage, heads to island inhabited by a dragon tries to get protection, he agrees he feels “something”, they have sex with his two pronged d, her ex fiancée tries to take her back it doesn’t work and he gets jailed, she goes back with her father, then her ex finds her but it isn’t “him” anymore and then there was a short circuit and then her dragon man saves her and poof that’s it. No explanation on what happened when she returned between her and her father, or what she’s doing with her life, or how her dragon man was right there when there was an accident. There are short stories where you can clearly see where things are going and are given details and descriptions to help you muddle through the rest and then there are stories that don’t. This is the don’t. Don’t pay for this. That coupled with the weird two pronged dong.... “the smaller one was 8 inches” .... there’s sci fi fantasy, and then there’s weird garbage that acts sci fi... please get it together...

I loved this book, I almost wish it was longer because oh my god how sweet and cool was this.
Fist of all, one thing that needs to be good and is good in this book is the world building. The world is original with a post-apocalyptic, alien and magic (sort of) filled world. And everything is explained really smoothly, how the Cy came to be and how and why people are becoming cyborgs. The world building was extra great, especially for such a short book.
The characters lived up to my expectations too. The dragons in themselves are really cool, and their explanation and powers and the spirit thing all make sense, which can be difficult in books like this. Lance was really interesting, kind of beast of beauty and the beast like, I just loved him. I really liked Selena too, she kind of took everything in stride, not freaking out or anything.
I also really liked the whole pack and dove things, can’t wait to read more about those in the next books.
Overall great, reading the sequel as I’m reading this!

A cute and sexy novella, I loved Selena and Lance as a couple. The story is short but fun to read. Selena's character faces some steep parental expectations in a future society dominated by people upgraded with cybernetics that are creating a minority of pure humans. The story is tricky, Lance has grown complacent, a dragon with self-esteem issues, and he's thrown when he meets a free-spirited human who is trying to disappear. I obviously read this straight through, it's only about 119 pages, but I'm going to read book 2 next. I love Milana Jacks books, I think she's brilliant, I think you will too.

I am not a sci fi fan, but I'm a Milana fan, so I gave this a try. Result? I'm hooked. For the past several years, I've only been listening to audio books, because my reading time is practically nonexistent, but now I'm reading Book 2 in bed, and have Books 3 and 4 waiting.

Milana has done a great job with the world building, her Alphas are hot, and her leading ladies fierce even when they yield power. Can't have enough of this series!

I loved these books! I read all of them because this author set the background perfectly. The world she created was described as though you were there with characters. The characters were likable and each book had a different dragon . the story continue d through each book w/ different H. They were a bit shorter than I would have liked but the author packed them with great info and a bit of action.

good/great read

I started to read this book more than once more than twice and each time I stopped. What stopped me was the Cyborg thing but I am glad I kept reading it the third time. This was good and funny at times. Selena was escaping her Cyborg controlled life style because of an impending marriage. She finds a dragon/man who seemed closed off to her. Lance finds out Selena is his spirited mate. Good/great read.

Milana Jacks' "Rise for Her" is the first tale in the Ice Age Dragon Brotherhood series. It is a dragon-version of Beauty and The Beast. The mythology with the dragons and the cyborgs is neat. Different mythology than I've ever seen before. Lots of great chemistry and sexy scenes. I especially liked the dragon's extra "parts." Hubba hubba! I can't wait to check out #2!

This was a good story, really cool world like the author usually creates. But I felt more of a disconnect between these two characters than I have with any of her other books. Lance was cold and sort of closed off, and even when I was reading from his POV, I found him hard to understand and connect with.

It was still a good story though.

When dragons can save the world

Oh my! I absolutely love this new series! From the snarky dragons, with just the right equipment, the wolves, doves and the women who will be the spirit of the dragons. There are so many twists and turns that you will never lose interest and, like me, you will be more than ready to read the next installment.

I like reading the occasional dragon-shifter book, but I haven’t found any I’ve adored yet. I’m still going to read the rest (I’m reading them in the bindup) because I do enjoy how Jacks lays out the series really well so that you kind of know where they’re going to end. I do kind of wish there was a tiny bit more at the end of this one though, it ended kind of abruptly.

Fun read

I would’ve give this 5 stars but I felt like it was missing something. I toggled between 3.5 or 4 stars. The romance interaction was hot and I’m looking forward to book two. Maybe it has that something that’s missing.

Wasn't expecting . . . .

The mythology of dragons to be spun quite like Milana has done with this first book of her dragon series. I have always loved dragons but this just takes it to the next level. Can't wait for the next book.😀😀

Good smut

Good writer, a little misogynistic. Why can’t a girl have a romance where women aren’t “important property”? All in all, entertaining, well written. Finished in a night.

Rating this was hard.

On one hand, I like the plot and the writing is good. On the other hand, some of the details were ridiculous. Like, why do authors like to give the hero two penises? It was just cringy. Ugh.

A bit flimsy.

All the elements to a good story, but no where near what I was expecting after reading the ALPHA HORDE series. Not horrible, but not that good either. I enjoy the wit and eroticism of her stories.

I did not love the execution on this but, now that (a) Lance and Selina (sp?) are done, and (b) the world building has been established, maybe things will improve? I already paid for all 4 books in the series so what the heck, might as well try another.
