Holman Christian Standard Study Bible

Rate this book
Holman Christian Standard Study Bible is identical to our ECPA award-winning HCSB Study Bible but now available in larger print. As Baby Boomers enter their 60s and 70s, they are looking for large print editions of both books and Bibles. And large print is not longer just for seniors. After spending all day in front of a computer, younger adults are gravitating to larger print editions, finding them helpful as they read while on an exercise bike or treadmill.

Developed in direct response to what consumer focus groups asked for, the HCSB Large Print Study Bible, featuring approximately 15,000 study notes, is designed so that every clarifying resource is there on the same page spread as the biblical text to which it refers. You’ll never again forget what you were looking for, because the pertinent note, map, chart, word study, or illustration is already there. And when an even deeper view is desired, there are also introductions for each book, outlines and timelines, a concordance, and more. For the growing believer whose desire is to know Scripture more intimately and live out its loving instruction, the HCSB Large Print Study Bible always keeps you and God on the same page.

This CSB has suddenly become my favorite English translation. It strikes a precarious balance between word-for-word, thought-for-thought and paraphrase. As if this wasn’t challenging enough, it tries to wade into the gender wars by freely adapting clearly masculine pronouns to more generic inclusive terms. In this they fail miserably for this elder’s taste, but I admire the courage it took to do that.

It's the Word of God so it's awesome. Maybe because I'm so used to the NIV, that at times I miss that translation. Also, some verses are put at the bottom of the page and I'm not sure why. Most versions do that, I think, but I would prefer all verses to be included and let the reader determine for themselves if they should be there. This version is very easy to read, however, and is in more modern vanacular.
