Rate this book
HE DOES NOT LET ANYONE ROLL THE DICE. Spring has arrived, and a new crop of would-be adventurers has turned up at the Guild along with it. Among the newcomers is a haughty young wizard boy whose desire to hunt only goblins has Guild Girl slightly concerned. Meanwhile, there's a new adventurer-training facility being built not far from the frontier town, and Goblin Slayer happens to know the village that used to stand on that spot... The party finds itself teaming up with the wizard boy and heading to an old mausoleum to deal with some goblins-but it looks like this brazen new adventurer might just be more trouble than he's worth!

A more grim slice-of-life story than the last couple of books, which was a welcome change in my opinion.

This is a great volume for seeing how much Goblin Slayer himself has changed over the course of the story, something he himself is becoming aware of.

I still haven’t read many light novels, but I’ve really been enjoying the Goblin Slayer books. I gave the last few volumes 5 star-ratings because the writing has really improved from the earlier ones. I’m not sure if that’s improvement on the part of the writer, Kumo Kagyu, or if the translators are improving. The descriptions are more vivid, and the dialogue is more crisp.

To me, a 5-star light novel can’t even compare with a 5-star novel, but that’s why it wouldn’t be fair to even try. I think this book is about as good as I can expect from the genre. There are times when I can’t help feeling guilty that I’m reading books targeted at a much younger demographic (and lower reading level). That being said, these Goblin Slayer LN’s are still a lot of fun. I always know I can expect some entertaining action sequences, and there’s really subtle character development as the series progresses.

This volume showcases the development of the two main characters, Goblin Slayer and Priestess. They both reflect on their past as they try to move forward into the future, in a world where the cruel gods of fate leave everything up to a roll of the dice. This theme is well-represented in the series, and though I can’t envision the main party losing any of its members, such a thing is certainly feasible in this world, which creates constant tension in the story.

One of my favorite things about this series is the mix of highly intense action with quiet moments between the main characters. They all have pretty unique personalities (in spite of their boring, archetypal names) and their interactions are always amusing. In this volume, one of these moments occurs when Goblin Slayer gets invited for a night of drinking with the other high-ranked adventurers, Spearman and Heavy-Knight. Basically, it’s hilarious when Goblin Slayer does anything besides slaying goblins (he never takes off his armor or weapons, even in a tavern).

I actually started reading this series just before the anime aired, and it got a lot of attention for its ‘edginess’. Some people think it’s way too brutal, some people think that it’s soft compared to other series. Between these LN’s and the anime, my opinion is that it is a bit edgy, but not tastelessly so. It does a good job portraying a chaotic world that’s really not so different than our own.

Another volume of Goblin Slayer and yet another goblin crisis! As well as some personal crisis for both Goblin Slayer and Priestess; involving the shared past they had during Priestess' first goblin slaying quest. Not to mention Goblin Slayer's dilemma at seeing the old site of his former home being repurposed into the new training grounds for the adventurers, as well as Priestess' concerns about needing to prove her own abilities to allow herself to be promoted to the next rank.

Frankly, I find it neat that the novel had Noble Fencer, who appeared in the previous volume ended up being the person who allowed the push to have the training grounds made to help newbie adventurers learn their ropes before embarking on their own adventures. It was a nice follow-up to the ending of the Goblin's Crown conclusion where Noble Fencer start to consider what path to take for herself after the harrowing experience that she had endured.

That said, I love how we get to see more interaction between the Goblin Slayer's party as well as the other adventurers around them. Five volumes in, we should have expected that the group's really becoming even closer as Goblin Slayer himself would start to accept that his party members (and some other adventurers in Frontier Town) had grown to become his friends (and not just Priestess' friends). And it was nice to read about how all of the veteran members of his party try their best to help Priestess out as the girl grew to become a precious member of their party.

I really love the writing on how everyone's relationship become even closer and how Priestess also started to grow from all of the experiences that she had gained while going on adventures with Goblin Slayer and the rest of her friends.

Nice intermission-style volume that focuses on the development of our protagonist and the main heroine.

Goblin Slayer reveals a more humane side to himself and we get to see him interact more with his surroundings than ever before in this volume and I love how far he's changed in this volume. Admittedly his stoic side is still my favourite but seeing him inject rare moments of levity in this volume was great as well.

Priestess also takes a big step forward for herself this volume and hopefully we will see the fruits of this in the later volumes.

The only downside of this volume is the focus on our main pairing, resulting in lesser appearances of the rest of their colorful party, but they are definitely still around to save the day as needed.

While I mentioned this is an intermission sort of volume, there's no lack of goblin action, so no worries on that end.

A new facility is built to train the starting adventurers. We get to see the usual cast train the newbies and impart them with some useful knowledge.
What was great about this volume was to see the 2 main characters grow: Goblin Slayer is really changing slowly and Priestess is toughening up.
There are 2 new characters introduced that would work great as a duo for a spin off of this series. I would definitely want to hear their story.

Note: Translation quality went down. There were parts that didn't make much sense in English and some weird sentences that I had to re-read and interpret what the translator was trying to say.

Volume 6 of the Golbin Slayer series continues to see Goblin Slayer and his party kill all of the goblins. But now, six light novels in, the writing, the translation, and the characters themselves have all matured. The writing and the translation both feel crisper and more natural than earlier light novels, and it's particularly satasifying to see how the characters, especially Goblin Slayer, have developed and become more than one-dimensional TRPG classes.

Obviously, there is still progress to be made, but I continue to enjoy reading the series and follow this band of adventurers wherever they go.

I found the beginning and middle to be a bit slow, even though it showcases some change in our titular hero. The true star of the book is the last third and our favorite Priestess gets a moment or three to shine on her own.

As usual there are goblins to slay (and then some). Never fear, I'm sure there will be more!

Verdict: If you like the GS series this one should be right up your alley. Even though it started slowly for me, I still dug the book as a whole.

Fun read.

Another enjoyable read. It's a nice volume where a more than one character is dealing with a promotion of sorts. The combat's always satisfying to read and tabletop reference gives me a smirk more often than I'd like to admit.
Always a pleasure to see this setting and characters grow.
Looking forward to the next volume.

Not a bad book but not that great. Far, far too much fluff stuff that doesn't matter to the actual store or character progression. Easily skipable large sections.

What keeps me invested is the main character, his tragedy, survivor mentality, growth, etc. Plus a bit of mystery about where he was trained.

Could be better but not terrible.

One of the weaker entries in the series, but I still enjoyed in nonetheless. I wouldn't say no to more creative goblin/unexpected monster slaying and more interactions with the kindest man on the frontier.

Not the biggest fan of High Elf Archer but reading about her home and learning about the inner workings of the elven culture was nice. Plus a dino!

A relaxing volume to read but not a lot happens. Yes, there is a promotion and some characters have development but in general, it feels like a transition story.

Otra gran aventura llena de emoción, acción eventos lamentables y crecimiento para algunos personajes. Ha sido un gran libro.
