DNF @around 30-40%, but skimmed the end. No star rating for this.

This book is an example of why I'm convinced that there are writers out there that plant positive reviews on ebook outlets (Amazon, B&N, erc), or there is some process whereby the overall star rating of a book never drops below a 3.
I'm honest when I critique a book, but I'm blunt. A good portion of my reviews never see the light of day on Amazon, even though I edit out any profanity. But if something is crap, I'm going to say that it's crap.
I had one prior experience with this writer and wasn't blown away and I was expecting to be because she gets such high ratings. But I gave this book a shot because the blurb was right up my alley and there wasn't a single negative review posted.
Yeah, no.
This book was awful. It was poorly conceived and executed, full of editing errors, wrong word choices and bad grammar. The writer played fast and loose with the facts or just never bothered to research anything. And the characters were unlikable.
This book was about a sadomasochistic relationship, minus the kink. The 'hero,' Danny, was no hero, but a mentally and emotionally abusive sadist. The so-called heroine, Ailis,' was another too-stupid-to-live doormat whose sensibilities were ruled by her lady parts and who got off on being treated like dog shite.
So, the story begins after a prologue where the mains meet at the ages of 15 and 16. Then the big 'THING' happens and then the storyline abrupty jumps forward 6 years with no acceptable explanation for the shift in dynamic.

Present-day Danny had the basic bad-boy requirements, ostensibly to give reason for his bad behaviour, i.e., molded by past loss, grief or betrayal, under extreme pressure to prove himself or 'live up' to some perceived example. Underneath it all was supposed to be an amazing, sweet hero.

Straight up, Danny was a pig. His cruelty and hatred for Ailish was baseless and entirely over the top, and wasn't consistent with the Danny in the prologue. The writer took him in a direction that made him a caricature to me. He was a monster of a bully, but in a childish, impulsive way rather than a scary way.
As far as Ailis, all I can say is that I was done with her pretty early on. A heroine has to be strong-minded and mature for me to connect. She can't be portrayed as having one conviction only to turn around and behave counter to it. She can't do stupid things that make me cringe. But she did all that and more straight after the prologue and at that point I well knew I was going to hate this book.

Danny would do something horrid to Ailis, and instead of having the expected, healthy urge to knee his crotch and tell him to fuck off, perhaps even acting on it, she feels wetness at her 'core' and needs to 'change her panties'?!
What.The. Hell.

Okay, quick sidestep here. The word 'core' needs to be removed from this genre. Not only is it rampantly overused, it is incorrect. A woman's core is NOT located between her legs.
Moving on.

Danny was an emotional sadist, and Ailis was a masochist. Because being abused, humiliated and debased wouldn't make a grounded, stable woman sexually aroused. But Ailis walked around in a constant state of arousal over a pathetic man-child who hated her guts.
I didn't sign on for that, I have no respect for characters like that and even less for the writers who create them.

I gave up on this book around 30%, I believe, right about the mention of 'Noah parting the Red Sea.' That made me laugh but it pissed me off more. I avoid religion like a plague, but even I know the Old Testament stories and Ms. Blake needs to check her facts.

**SPOILER**

Another example of the writer's lazy approach to research was Ailis' 'terminal illness.' In the prologue she is in hospital dying from leukaemia. She has cancer, yet has all her hair. She's dying and there is no hope, yet seemingly on the next page she is cured, bouncing and running with no apparent treatment or explanation for the turn of events. Beyond that, her 'terminal illness' is basically treated as though it never existed. I skimmed around and read the end and she goes on to have a baby with no difficulties. I've already indicated the shoddy research here and elaborating is like splitting hairs at this point, but the effects of chemo on an adolescent body - if it hadn't already been rendered sterile - would have made a successful pregnancy unlikely and even potentially risky.

Why even include the illness at all? It was gratuitous and unneccessary and for readers who like a little 'real life' in their books, that wasn't a good example.

*Soapbox moment!*
Cancer is fucked. I hate fucking cancer. It's an epidemic that affects EVERYONE in some way, tangible or intangible. Whether it's yourself or someone you know or love who has fought or is fighting it, or you've lost someone to it, it's touched everyone. To me that's serious and if a writer is going to use it in their story, they should respect their readers enough to present it accurately, regardless of how much it drives the storyline.

Bottom line, if it isn't clear, I hated this book. The writing is amateurish, the characters excessively immature and the plot is heavily driven by sex. There is nothing endearing about the characters and nothing heartfelt or touching about their journey - at least the part I read.
If any of the above is an issue for you, I recommend skipping this one.

Danny O’Donaghue was the lead singer and lead guitarist of The Untouchable, singer-songwriter and international sex symbol, and son of mega rock star Dillan O’Donaghue of Irish rock legends, The Dublin Jar.

description

Ailis Kavanaugh is doomed. In the barrenness of her heart, Danny O'Donahue is like a phantasmal cloud, disllusioning and disconcerting. He jumps in and out of her life at the most inopportune times. Keeping her on her toes, her heart hanging on a hook of his soulful voice and drop dead sexy looks
It was one of those movie moments. Those moments that never really happened in real life, at least not in mine. A cluster of birds took off at once. And the crowd parted. Revealing a tall, broad-shouldered figure standing at the traffic lights waiting to cross the road. The sight of him in the flesh after six years hit me like a punch to the solar plexus. Danny O’Donaghue.

description

It's like he's the bane of her existence, choking her to the brink of death then reviving her with a kiss of life. This swinging between "He Loves Me; He Loves Me Not" is draining her heart of all the sap of forgiveness and it's only a matter of time before she snaps and severs all ties to Danny Boy.
Bitterness mixed with longing, making it a ruinous and intoxicating cocktail in my stomach. It could eat me alive from the insides. Beautiful hatred. I could never forgive him.

description

I went in the story expecting really great things for Danny, whom I'd had a glimpse of in Irish Kiss #1. A broken songwriter, with dreamy looks is the stuff of legends.
Unrequited love, forbidden and doomed is my fave cloud to fall back on. Sienna crafted him with pure Assholic ingredients. Lots of tantrums, volatile temper, gigantic chip on his shoulder and his soul broken beyond repair. He's angry at the world for taking one thing most important to him and he's like a Bull looking for a China shop.
The on again, off again relationship was beyond frustrating and Ailis just lay at his feet like a doormat, I was not happy. Me No Likey!!
He snatched his arm away from my touch. “Go away, Ailis.” Then I realised his numbness was all false. Like how charred flesh hides the raw, marrow-ripping pain underneath. A sickness took root in my stomach, so poisonous I almost doubled over, as his pain became mine
But about 70% in, IT. HIT. ME!
I love you.
You shouldn’t.

description

He's just a boy child with abandonment issues and loneliness making his body hollow. There's absolutely nothing in there, a vacuum. He doesn't know any better or any different. He has all these feelings and he's absolutely inadequate dealing with them
And Ailis is just in love,  she sees him like no one else, giving him her loyal support and undying promise, time and time again.
Now the story is back to making sense. I cried many times, was tearing my hair out many times and was swept away by epic love many times.

description

The temperature of their chemistry going from sizzling hot to icy cold, just wreaked havoc with my emotions and threw them in a hurricane. They went swirling and flying, hitting every wall, knocking all barriers. And I was left with devastated heart.
Poignant story filled to the brim with angst and spilling over!

Didn't like the two main characters

It would be nice if Ailis grew a backbone and didn't turn into this boring quivering mess whenever Danny appeared. He treats you like crap but yet you're turned on??!As for him, sorry but there's only one word for someone who bullys relentlessly- (even as an adult) a cancer survivor just because she survived and someone close to him didn't. I found him immature, nasty and selfish.

Professor’s Kiss
By: Sienna Blake
5 I’ll keep your secret here Stars!

One thing I can honestly say about Sienna Blake, she is totally worth the one click! Book after book I’ve read of hers and they all hold up to the highest standard. A great, well written, perfectly flowing story that pulls your emotions in every way possible.

Ailis fell in love that day in the hospital…so many years ago. She never realized it until the years have passed. She did know one thing though, music was in her blood. Not coming from any musicians in her family, she had to work for all she wanted to accomplish.

Getting accepted into the highly sought-after Dublin College of Music her senior year of college was music to her ears!!! She did it! Now to buckle down and impress each and every professor here. This could open all kinds of doors for her.

Imagine Ailis walking in to class her first day at DCM and seeing
My ex-best friend.
My first love.
My tormentor.

…is now my professor.

This story isn’t about a professor and a student.
This story isn’t about two people meeting for the first time.
This story has history.

As I was reading this beautifully written story, of a young woman wanting to make a name for herself… A young man who was forced to grow up so quickly. The demons in Danny are so hard to cover up. The demons were forced on him since that day in the hospital.

These two fight for each other. These two fight against each other. These two are meant for each other.

But with the test of time and life happening, can their fight be strong enough?

I loved this story so much. So much.

I feel bad for anyone who hasn't read work by Sienna Blake to be honest. I stumbled upon her a while back and haven't regretted ONE MINUTE OF READING! Not ONE! She is a master at weaving angsty love stories that consistently pull me in and wreck me. I cry every time and Professor's Kiss was no exception.

This will fall under the category of second chance romance. It is the second book in the Irish Kiss series and you don't need to read book one to follow along as each book is a standalone. The only thing consistent is the group of guys.

This book was highly emotional for me. The history between these two and their consistent back and forth really tugs at your heart strings. The deep pain and love that Danny and Ailis have between them paves the way for some super emotionally charged scenes! Just when you think you are in the clear and all is working out...BAM! The rug gets pulled out from under you and the emotions are intense again.

"Please," I begged between sobs, "if you care about me at all, you'll leave me alone. I've only just learned how to breathe without you."

Gah! I can't even.

I did actually also laugh. There is a scene in the locker room...that was a little funny to me. You'll know when you read it.

Reading time for this story was around 5-6 hours. I lost track due to having to stop once for adulting purposes, but I did do it in one day. I would recommend clearing your schedule though. And Kleenex.

I am giving this one 5 stars.

There was too much of Danny being an asshole to Ailish and her being thirsty and taking it.

Just because the man is meant to be an alpha asshole does not mean the woman has to be a freaking doormat and the sappy cute ending just couldn't make it better for me.

*** 4.5 STARS ***

Professor's Kiss is the second book in the Irish Kiss series but it can be read as a standalone. I read this book in one go as the characters and the story sucked me in.

This is a friends-to-lovers, second-chance, bully, student-teacher and rock star romance. Too many tropes? That's what I thought at the beginning but it kind of worked very well. The chapters mix past and present events from both Ailis and Danny’s POVs, the main characters. The past chapters helped me to understand their relationship and I really enjoyed reading them.

Ailis was a great female character and I loved that she stood up for herself and for what she thought was good for her. I love a broken boy and Danny fits the role perfectly. The story is full of angst which is my guilty pleasure and I loved the ending and the execution.

Highly recommended and, after loving the two first books, I will 100% continue the series!

First of all, let me tell you a little backstory.
Last year on May 16 I gave Sienna Blake- new author to me a chance. Love Sprung from Hate was my first read by this author and that book was the beginning of something good something perfect. She
made me fall in love with her writing. Ever since experiencing such amazement I've devoured every book this author has written.
Her writing is so much different than many books I've read before, so that book made a good impression on what was to come. I've seen her writing progress getting better and better until voila! This book right here you guys, This book right here! 😂 is a phenomenal book that will make you question the definition of Love, she fucking nailed it FOR SURE!

"Back then, things were more complicated. Emotions too tangled. Feelings too tender and immature. But we were adults now. I could have her. Would have her. And she’d let me. Even if it ruined her."

Professor's Kiss is one of those books that you definitely can't miss out on. My emotions were EVERYWHERE. So many push and pull scenes that had my heart in my throat and now I can guarantee you that Sienna Blake has mastered it, hands down. Steamy moments that will have your panties wet. Angsty moments that will leave you in so much pain. My heart almost couldn't handle all those moments. My FAVORITE scene was the Library scene, oh god it was scorching HOT!

Danny and Ailis met when they were young in a terrible situation with different perspectives. That's when their love starts to blossom. Although at the moment neither both of them knew that, they'll soon find out that love can hurt and will hurt in the worst and best way.

The hero was broken without repair or so I thought until one sassy strawberry brown hair girl stumbled across his life once again. His past and future were colliding. His music, her career were on the line. But what happens when you decide not to give a fuck about consequences? Will this couple concede all that life brings them or will one of them derail?

This book is soo much more than a student-teacher romance, so much more than a second chance romance. This book is about healing, coping, finding yourself, loving yourself, embracing life, it's about deciding what is worth it, and foremost is about realizing that LOVE was ALWAYS there, to begin with.

Ailis, Ailis what am I going to do with you? I give this woman props she has endured so much in life. Although at times I wanted to slap her so she could get her mind right. With her character, you'll learn that Love truly hurts.
You see when there's real love nothing can change it or perhaps one cold bastard indie rock goddess can? Going to music school has been her dream since the very beginning. She has worked her ass off to accomplish this dream and when it suddenly becomes her reality she's in the clouds. But oh god, she didn't expect to see her old tormentor, the boy she fell head over heels in love with not so long ago. The one person she confided on trusted but all of a sudden became a blur of her imagination. He no longer was the beautiful soul that put ger together when she thought that life was not worth it. The boy now a man was a different person with so many demons.

"With his hands on me, this reckless heat flooding through my veins, I felt wild. Free. Alive. With his breath in my lungs and his hands in my hair, I grew wings. I didn’t care about the eventual fall; I wanted to soar."

“Please,” I begged between sobs, “if you care about me at all, you’ll leave me alone. I’ve only just learned how to breathe without you.”

With his brutal comments and actions, he will push away the one person who truly cared about him; Ailish.
He suffered the repercussion, and now he doesn't know what to do. My poor Danny O’Donaghue international indie rock legend, a beautiful soul that not many will understand him. But to understand him you gotta see the bigger and clearer picture. His character made my heart bleed. He was so raw and beautiful that once you get through his hard facade you'll see the beauty in his heart. First, he lost his whole life to cancer, he was broken, and just a little boy. Force to live with the one person he hated the most, his life changed. He became brutal, lost, lonely, and unloved.

"I paused at the door. I wanted to look back. I wanted to turn back. If I did, I’d only hurt her again. Because I was unable to love, unwilling to love. I was so much like my father that way. Selfish. Self-centred. Consumed by my own pain."

Overall, this book reached my Top favorite book of the fucking year. If you have not experienced this author's books you MUST read this book I guaranteed you it will make your heart bleed. Professor's Kiss was so raw and beautiful written that will have you on the edge of your seat biting your nails like a madman while having your heart ripped in two. The angst, the emotional roller coaster this author put me through is unbelievable. This book will forever have my heart. These characters went through so much and being here to experience their HEA was so emotionally BEAUTIFUL. Thank you Sienna Blake for another amazing book.

"At the end of the album, I sat there stunned. It turns out I was wrong. We weren’t frozen snapshots of characters in a song. We were an album. A soundtrack."

Professor’s Kiss was a wonderful story, it was so close to surpassing my feelings about the first book in the series, Irish Kiss, but just didn’t hit the high mark that was set by that book. My heart broke for Danny and all the love he lacked; it also found comfort in the way Ailis (AY-lish) did her level best to show him that love and how it shouldn’t be tied to what you get out of it.

Danny was not a nice person for most of this book. However, I never found myself hating him. I questioned his reasoning, wondered about how could see himself the way he did, even felt sympathy toward the way he kept himself so isolated, but never saw him in the same light he did. He was the epitome of a broken little boy who’d grown into a man who never learned how to cope with someone caring for him with no expectations.

I had a much harder time with Ailis. I loved her, no doubt about that, but she didn’t tug on my heart in the same way Danny did. I was constantly frustrated with what she put up with from Danny and how often she flip-flopped on her conviction not to let Danny continue to use and abuse her. While I understood how much damage Danny had done to her psyche over the years, her refusal to believe that she was worthy of anything was beyond maddening.

Professor’s Kiss was a slow-burn angstfest. While the plot, in both the present and the past, was constantly moving forward and propelling Ailis and Danny to address all the things that had transpired between them. Theirs was not a particularly happy story; there were countless traumas they’d suffered at each other’s hand and by outside forces. The connection between Ailis and Danny was undeniable, though; their dynamic was electric, and the care and concern they had for one another bled from the pages – even when they were trying to deny and suppress it.

I wish the end of this story would have matched the intensity of the first 90% or so of it. Professor’s Kiss had such an amazing build-up, and I was prepared for an epic ending to their story, but it just fell a little flat for me. If a little more of Danny’s healing had been captured in the book or there were a few more chapters of them being happily and fully committed to one another this book could have been stellar. I was so disappointed that the book fell apart, for me, in those last few moments.

Professor’s Kiss is the second book in Sienna Blake’s Irish Kiss series. These books are standalones, with some interconnected characters and overlapping timelines. These books do not have to be read in order, and there is nothing lost in reading one book without reading the others. Professor’s Kiss is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Ailis and Danny.

Sienna Blake is a phenomenal author. This book may not have hit all the right notes for me in the end, but it still delivered a fabulous story and was quite compelling. Ms. Blake is a skilled wordsmith. Her writing conveys a deep sense of emotion, and her style lends well to the deep, poignant stories she writes.

“I close the door Between us. And walked away, leaving a pieces of my soul behind with her. And every single broken piece of my heart that I could spare.”

As always we come across a well written and engaging narrative. Capable of arousing various types of emotion. Understanding actions may be possible. Forgive and forget not so easy.

Danny O'Donaghue and Ailis Kavanagh meet in a hospital. She is a teenage girl fighting against leukemia. He visits his mother, who also fights cancer, every day. A fight that not everyone can overcome. Danny and Ailis disagree and re-encounter several times in the narrative, and gradually we understand the maturation, the traumas and problems that each one faced.

And like every Sienna’s Blake books, it could not be free from polemics. In this work we see bullying. I admit that I find it controversial and uncomfortable in the book as the protagonist remains interested in her abuser after years. The way she cares about what he says, and even what he does not talk about, shows some self-esteem issues.

This was a characteristic of the protagonist that irritated me enough until almost half of the reading. It's the kind of thing that makes me reflect and worries because it only appears in the literature because it happens in real life. Girls and women of any age should not allow themselves to suffer such abuse.

In books, when this type of behavior appears you expect it to be from someone who has had a troublesome family. This is not the case with Ailis. And I do not know if the excuse of the emotionally disturbed cancer of the past convinces me.

But when you think it's impossible for this couple to work out, Sienna Blake shows two wounded, close-knit hearts for a talent they both have in common: music. At this point, the author shows her talent by redirecting the reader's emotions, writing scenes narrated by Danny with a tenderness that makes you sigh.

The characters show their fragilities little by little to each other. Walls are knocked down. Secrets are discovered. Rumors and intrigues spread at the same time that the couple's feelings grow, although their relationship does not seem to evolve because of the lack of trust in each other and in themselves.

The torments of the past coupled with some dramas in the present can tear them away. At times it is as if the author is squeezing your heart like an orange. A torturous and at the same time delicious reading, which ends sweetly and gently. And it teaches us that it's always worth giving a second chance. Especially for ourselves.

PROFESSOR'S KISS is an angsty, second- chance romance between two people who first met when they were in their teens. They considered each other best friends and loved each other deeply while Ailis was battling leukemia, until tragedy struck Danny and he became cold, cruel, and distant. Years later, he returns to her life, as her professor and the indie rock idol everyone was starstruck with . The chemistry between them was both hot and heated. She was his muse, but she couldn't be more. When Ailis got tired of the vicious cycle, it was only then that Danny was able to admit that he loved her from the start. It was a long and emotional journey for them, especially for Ailis. But when Danny became a better man, he became the best! They finally lived HEA they deserved from the start.

This book was AMAZING! SO GOOD! Although Danny's character was frustrating, he was also so raw. This book was not only scorching hot but also the roller coaster ride of emotions it evoked in me were phenomenal! You guys! Everything about this book, including the poignant lyrics, screamed WINNER! I am now officially this author's newest fan!

I have received and read an advanced copy of this book and this is a fair and honest review and recommendation voluntarily shared.

I truly had a love hate relationship with Danny through this whole book. I knew he was hurt and just lashing out but OMG I wanted to strangle him for some of the crap he did to Ailis. These two meet when they are teenagers going through horrible but similar things. They become best friends and lean on each other until one day Danny pushes her away. Fast forward he turns out to be her professor. And still mean as a snake. I really enjoyed this book. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

I dont even know what to tell you about this book. I had such high expectations and that was my first mistake. The hero is sich an asshole, in my case i couldn’t even connect. And the heroine. Omg. She likes to be treated like shit and she had such low self esteem. The only thing i can really say is that having the ending a few years later was a good choice. Overall a bad book. Im sorry i really wanted it to be good.

Friendship & Forever

Ailis met Danny when she was fighting cancer in the same hospital as his mom. They had an instant connection and love for all things music. Danny struggled with losing his mom and he took it out on Ailis because she survived. He couldn’t be honest to himself and he did everything he could to sabotage their relationship. Ailis never stopped loving him and when she was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious music school she couldn’t wait until she learns that Danny is her new professor and she had to pass the class in order to graduate. The tension between these two jumps off the pages and you will not be disappointed when they finally give into their urges. However, Danny is still damaged and it’s hard to watch the struggles and sadness they both endure. This story will break your heart and make you smile to the point of believing that love is strong enough to conquer anything life has to throw at you. These two are adorable and their love is timeless. You will not be disappointed watching them find their way through music and love. Happy Reading!!

Professor's Kiss (Irish Kiss, #2)
by Sienna Blake

My Rating: 3.75⭐

I was excited to read this book based on the forbidden teacher/professor element. What I got was so much more: the teen bff during a troubling time, first love, the bully, the music, the love and the talent that lies within.

This book had the THEN and NOW scenario and I liked how Danny and Ailis were each other's anchors. They pulled to each other even if they didn't want it. Love and Hate work on the same path, so hating each other was the same as loving each other?

The elements of the hot rockstar and the shy girl were present with the wanting and lusting but sadly for me, it felt detached. I wanted to love this book so hard, but it just wasn't there for me. I couldn't form a connection with Danny and Ailis so the story felt dull. When the spice finally happened, it was weak and had the potential to be so much more.

Loved the short chapters, the dual POV and ends in a gorgeous HEA.

Wow what a book. The book itself was well written and it truly kept me entertained .

Why 4 stars?.. well because I did not feel the ashat groveled enough. But seriously could he ever grovel enough after what he did to the h all through high school and then when she was in college. There were parts where my heart hurt for our h. He was an utter bastard to her and she had no idea why he was so mean to her. Evidently he could not get over that the h had lived through her cancer and his mother did not. How is that the fault of a 15 year old child??? I just never warmed up to Danny. I know he tried to show growth and all that but seriously this turdknuckle was bloody awful to the heroine in HS. Pushed, pinched, called her names, embarrassed her in front of the school and we haven’t even made it past HS yet.

Over all the story was good I just wished the H was not such a jerk.

This one didn’t work for me nearly as much as the first one. I didn’t like the guy (he was a huge douchebag and honestly a bit predictable), the pacing was… off and the story felt immensely rushed at the end. Such a shame really because this could’ve been a brilliant story, heartfelt to boot, but it just fell flat.

I flipping loved it!!

Talk about angst and emotion. This book chews you up and spits you out but in a good way. I am officially a fan of this author, if her other books are anything like this one then I cannot wait to read them!

great read

I really enjoyed this book, fascinating storyline that kept me completely entertained.
Loved the push/pull, love/hate and the off the charts sexual tension.
Fantastic characters that had depth.
Overall a great book

Ailis Kavanagh was 15 years old battling leukemia when she met Danny O'Donaghue and the two became extremely close. But then in an instant everything changed and he broke her heart and then began to torment her anytime he was around her.

Danny O'Donaghue is a rock god who has decided to go more of an indie route and is struggling with writing songs when he is asked by Rickie Craven for help teaching a class on Advanced Performance and Arrangement.

When Ailis realizes that Danny is teaching one of her classes she wants to withdrawal knowing her heart can't take another beating from him. But will Danny let her go and will the two be able to figure out the past in order to get along in the future?

Wow - this book is incredible and leaves your heart battered and wanting to kill a certain rock god.

I loved Ailis right form the beginning and it was obvious how much she had already gone through with cancer and then to see how Danny began to treat her was just awful. My heart broke into a million pieces, especially when he pushed her into the mud. I was so happy when she got accepted for the scholarship as she had so much talent yet she was so quiet about it and subdued as she didn't seem to have the faith in herself.

So I knew that Danny had to be dealing with some grief but I was absolutely horrified how he treated Ailis when they were in high school and then how he continued to treat her at Dublin College. He was so unprofessional and you knew he wanted her to quit as he did not want to deal with how he felt.

Ailis constantly stood by Danny and yet he would push her away and then apologize to her. I knew something would eventually happen between the two as she had never gotten over him. The two had amazing chemistry but then Danny starting being such a jerk again and Ailis had her heart shattered again.

I was mad at Danny for criticizing Ailis's plans for after school as she didn't do what he wanted. I was glad that Danny realized everything and came to terms with what he needed to change.

The end was so good and it allowed my heart to finally heal!!

1 star. This book is a look into a toxic, manipulative relationship that truly never gets better.

Rant:
Straight off the bat I’m annoyed that Danny (H) treats Ailis (h) like shit and she just takes it. Bully romances generally are not my favourite, but I honestly despised it in this book. Ailis, despite all the humiliation she faces at his hand, still had the biggest crush on him even though he treats her like scum? Like honey no, have some respect for yourself. Danny might be broken but it’s not an excuse to lash out and act like the biggest prick. He’s entirely full of himself and he puts down Ailis time and time again in order to save his own fragile ego. Our h Ailis however loves even his horrible asshole behaviour.

Their relationship is destructive and manipulative and toxic for a great majority of the book… a nice epilogue cannot undo the years of trauma that she has to live with following them getting together. Up until 86% of this book, Danny was still using Ailis for his own means (using her to write songs for his album but not wanting to be in a relationship with her) and it was getting kind of ridiculous. He supports her only when it achieves his own goals. He puts in like 2% of effort into their relationship and expects her to give back 100% of herself and it’s outrageous. He also throws these childish temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way and it was the most annoying thing.

When he finally realised he loves her after roughly 20 chapters of destroying the relationship they have built together because he thought he couldn’t love someone else, it wasn’t some self actualised moment, his best friend had to tell him to his face that he was in love with her. It was honestly so stupid. This book is unrealistic and it wasn’t even an enjoyable read.

Also side note: him fingering some other girl in front of Ailis, licking the girl’s cum off his finger while Ailis watched then putting that same wet hand on her neck and on her lips???? I’m actually disgusted. He’s arguably the worst book hero I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading about.

I'm so torn! Half the time I couldn't stand Danny (like you are supposed to, cause you know, he's a dick), and the other half I'm watching him be nice. Like a normal person. (whatever that is...)

Ailis has been in love with this man since she was 15. It does not matter how he treats her, she still keeps coming back for more.

During high school, Danny was at his worst. He did some pretty nasty things to poor Ailis. If you can't handle bully stories, skip this one. Danny is a prick. Period. He grows up into a bigger prick. He does have some redeeming qualities, but they seem to be few and far between.

Ailis is a sweetheart. Pretty, smart, talented, friendly... Absolutely no self esteem. None.

Both of these two need to grow into more "adulty" adults before they can ever have a chance together. You know the saying "you have to love yourself, before you can love someone else" or something like that. Totally what this whole darn book is based on.

So for as much as they were bugging me... I totally couldn't put the book down. I bought it on Saturday and had it finished by Sunday night, and I worked both days! I really enjoyed it. I had not read the first book (Irish Kiss #1), but I plan to. I've bought that one now, too. The male character from that one is a friend of Danny. Their third friend is apparently getting his own book, too. I will most likely be reading that one, as well.

So this one is kind of a split in genres, it is a bully romance. Teacher/student. Rock star. Anti hero. Take your pick. They all play a huge part in this story. Definitely a keeper.

This is hard to review.
I like Sienna Blake's writing (and her name).
And I also love the fact that this story is set in the city of my heart - beautiful Dublin.
What I didn't like was the relationship between Ailis and Danny. The book started nicely but then ... I get the idea Sienna had when she created Danny the way she did. But it didn't work for me. Danny was toxic for Ailis and she was his punish bag. He could treat her however he wanted and he REALLY treated her badly at times but she still didn't tell him of or took her feet and RAN.
The relationship was unhealthy and even though there were bits and pieces which I really liked there was a lot which was just wrong.
I could read the book in a couple of days because - as I said - I liked the writing style.
I'm just sorry I can't give more points because ... DUBLIN! That book was set in Dublin and Ireland and I just loved that so much. More books should be set there!
