This was soooooo NOT a romance..... This was a bit of a mess and just a bridge to more stories.... Hunter and Christine were very sweet ,but weirdly naive and remarkably ignorant and the time line along with soo many other days were just off ....
I mean seriously ,What. Was. This? Ok, the time line was all off...ok, Hunter supposedly shows up while Ava and Covenly and co. We’re off in Italy in the last book.. Ava showed up before the attack and helped save Covenly during the battle and almost everyone by warning them and then Ava was there for a few days between healing and contacting ppl for help before they all left for Italy where they supposedly stayed 4-5 days to relax etc. before returning home .... but when Hunter is allowed to “officially” inside the “Pride” house not only are the alphas back ( w/everyone acting like she doesn’t exist moments after her return and gifts are received ,because she’s never mentioned again in the story even though just about every other character is even ones like the children we don’t really see) and when the recent battle is brought up,it’s said the battle was just *two days ago* when more than two days had long since passed just by the end of the last story.... ok, if you add it up it was maybe only a week and a 1/2 but it wasn’t two days...
And while D/s personalities to make a difference, every one is gonna be hurting and be hurting bad right after a good friend dies, what was all the BS about how Christine thought she was a wimp because a good friend died a week and a 1/2 or sooo ago ? Huh ? I have a very dominate personality as I’d be a huge mess if I’d lost a friend just a lil over a week later...
This was soo weird it was like the last book did and didn’t happen .... soo off and odd.... then there stuff like suddenly Hunter is saying how much better California is than Texas but it’s still too hot here in Lakesides.... and I was like huh ? In book one Lakesides was in Oregon ? When did the town move ? And when did Vivica Ace’s wolf shifter friend ( I think it’s spelled w/a k) became Vivienne at some point .... Then you add to it a couple who seem to be hot for each other ,who have their inner animals saying “mine” and “mate” to them as they sit around staring at and complaining about all the nauseating lovey dovey couples and yet , THEY. DO. NOTHING!!!!!! They flirt some but nothing comes of it... why ? Because while the focus never seems to leave them ,the story is more of a bridge between the past and the future and fixing the main threat to their pride and building a bridge to the future Ms.Sage sees for the series as a whole ... Poor Hunter and Christine deserve a do over because really they were just background noise here, this wasn’t their story... Supposedly they don’t “realize” they are even mates til the epilogue, they have to be told ..... huh ? Your animals are saying it and your staring at love literally in the face and you need Ace to tell you ? Aaaaaaaaaaaa, these ppl were that stupid... No mating, not marking not thrill of being “fated mates”..... Hell,we’re told Hunter goes down on Chris in th4 shower at literally the VERY end of the book ? But we don’t know then after a supposed year of back and forth between the two packs supposedly mate ... I guess ... the couple bit getting together til the epilogue? Seriously ? Are you freakin by kidding me ? No heat, no sex and the closest we have to seeing a couple get together ? Is Jas marking up Jason showing us where one of the future books is headed... This was a mess .... I’m ticked because this was described as a romance ( which it soo wasn’t ) when really it was just a book solely to move the plot along and help push the series in a direction for future books ... Now sadly, right or wrong Ms.Sage is highly entertaining even when she’s NOT delivering what she’s promised ,soo I still kinda enjoyed myself but this was a HUGE disappointment it wasn’t a romance and was all over the place as far as time line, location and even names and dates at times.... I can’t recommend it unless your following the series and just want to know what’s going on but with even a town moving states in this one I don’t know how accurate what you learn might be by the next book ... Ms.Sage, you drew me in w/Ms. Walt w/the Dragons Gift trilogy, and I fell in love with this series when I found the bundle on sale but this mess has really given me some doubts and unsure ... But Thank you... you . Are . Very. Talented .
This book felt too short, which is a sign to me that it's a great read. I wanted more! I'm a total dog person, so I was thrilled to discover Hunter (a wolf shifter) was the hero in this book. Hunter and Christina's story was another terrific installment in this fast-paced series. I'm ready for book five...
This was the first book I read in the series and that may have been my first mistake. It was INCREDIBLY short like I'm not even sure what happened short. This is not a romance at ALL. I wouldn't even call it instalove because characters don't even interact until the epilogue. I feel like I was missing so much (which could be bc I started at book 4). This felt like two chapters rather than a book.
The plot (if you can call it that) was loosely based off of Hunter's father being a twat. Hunter is finally fed up with his dad's tyrant ways and leaves the pack. Christine is the caretaker at another pack. She finds him attractive, hardly talks to him then BAM! epilogue and they're doing it in the shower! There is absolutely no emotional or character development between the two. I feel no love connection
Not sure what I expected but I was disappointed anyway.
Amazing story about Wyvern Pride and Vargas Pack shifters
Hunter is a Vargas wolf shifter who had finally enough of his father's alpha murderous and insane prejudices. He took one of children that was going to be killed for being submissive.
Christine is an Omega cat shifter who has been taken care of the children of the Wyvern Pride. Will she and Hunter realize that they are mates?
The characters are relatable, intriguing, and have bold personalities. The plot is saving the children and all the emotions this engenders.
I like this book because it come to the conclusion that cats and wolves should be no different in their moral codes and relationships. Maybe there will be peace?
I highly recommend this book and series. These books are meant to be read in order so the reader get the full effect of the author's intention.
A fun addition to the Age of Night series. This one feels more like a bridge, since it moved along quickly, and there wasn’t as much one-on-one action between Christine and Hunter as I would have expected. But there was lots of pack action, with all sorts of interactions between the entire pack. And, of course, hints of more to come. As per my usual, I enjoy the world building as much as any romance that comes along, and see this more or less as a fantasy series that happens to have some romance and sex in it. And LOTS of family. Because in this series, family and pack are everything. It doens’t get much better than that, eh?
21/5/18 - book 4 has just been released so a quick re-read of this one and then a catch up with the other three books in the series. all four are very short, fast reads and there is an ongoing storyline which takes place over a period of approx one year but plenty of history is covered to tie everything together. each book is about a separate couple but the general stories are about the pride as a whole. i love the writing style, the stories and the characters. there is danger, death and treason but there is also love, loyalty and honour and overall .. fun. super quick reads that i really enjoyed
Loved that we got a Romeo Juliet type story and no one better than a Varges wolf and a wyvern cat. Christine is adorable and learning her true pack position made lots of sense as she was able to calm a whole room and an alpha. Omegas are special and rare. Hunter was hot and badass and definitely book boyfriend worthy trying to protect kids and his niece at every turn. Crazy you wait till the epilogue for them to realize. I hope Jas and Jason get together lol
What a read - well written, Full of twists and secrets revealing. Hunter with Christiane Play so well together as They go thru this story. Both of Them are strong but in different places so They are a Perfect match. Christiane was one of my fav in this Series. I knew There was something more in Her. And I was pleasently surprised by Her character and The plot.
Cats and Dogs (#4) by May Sage: ***** Really good series! A nice continuation of an enjoyable series, written around a group of well developed, wonderful characters. Content: Bad a$$, snark and humor, got your back loyalty and friendships, and mates... Sooo good! This one ends with a very nice HEA, and a nice lead-in for the next story.
Who ever said they fight like cats and dogs, did not hear that live and gate are two sides of the same coin. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer would be a better description, but love always funds a way to make peace! Going to read book nr 5 now as the series just keeps getting better!!!
I'm really enjoying this series. Part of the reason is the mixed aspect of the pride, it doesn't matter what you are, if you fit, you're in! It really gives the author a much wider range of storylines, and gives some a change from what, at times, can seem to be the same story just with different characters. Definitely keeps me reading on to the next!
I enjoyed the next book. In the age of night series. The last two books have been quite short so there is not much development of the relationship between the two mates but it is nice to get to know the characters from the original pack. I will continue use with the series even though the books are short.
To me this book wasn’t as exciting as the 1st 3 books in this series were & mainly because there were no good vs bad fight scenes other than 1 at the end of this book. & there wasn’t any sex scenes in this book either.
But, other than the above comments it was a pretty good book.
Only reason not more stars is I was disappointed that the brothers didn't take down the corrupt pack sooner. Kinda heart broke for Jason. He killed his sisters mate, and so much else at his fathers manipulation. I hope his story has him finding atonement and healing. Christine needs more omega to help.
Christine is the only submissive of a very dominant pride. But she is just as bad-ass as the rest of them. Her and Hunter story brings the Vargas pack and the Wyvren pride to their finale stand. This is seriously awesome story.
May Sage is well worth reading, she keeps you enjoying the stories and wanting much more when you have finished the book. It is very hard to put the book down once you have started to read it.
Loved it...I very much look forward to the uocommig stories in this series. The author did a nice job giving a reason for the cared mates funding each other. May is o e of my favorite M/F authors...As a M/M fan, that says a lot.
A winning combination of great characters, (interesting species too), wild adventures, violence, humour, romance and a wonderful story. If I could have I'd have devoured it in one sitting! Absolute magic.
Hunter and Christine, wolf and cheetah. Love it. Finally we get to see the inside of the Vergas Pack and meet more of the players. Really good addition to the series.
This series keeps getting more interesting with each book. And I love the fact that we find out more about each of the children with each book. LOL and I can't wait to read the next one. And now to have the Vergas pack as allies is big.
This was a nice linking novel. It provides a back story and bridge to the next series. It was nice to see the pack without a sense of impending doom. The ending was very rushed though. Plus not enough time with Lola.
I'm in love with the age of night series this was another example why May is a go to author for me. Can't wait for the next book and the spin off series as well.
I can’t get enough of this series!! I love the characters and watching them interact-and the truths the author drops (yes, shoes ARE the answer). Definitely a must read set!
I liked the plot, but for the main characters to actually get together in an epilogue? It felt rushed & an afterthought to me. More time could have been taken to write a fuller story I feel.
Really enjoyed this book. I'm glad Hunter made up with his brother and told him the truth about his dad. Glad all the members are finding their mates. On to the next one.
Everything about this book was unexpected, except how good the story was. The most unexpected characters doing the most unexpected things. With some snark, and danger and new friends and allies. And an unexpectedly wonderful ending! Loved this one!
