The Envy of All #1

Ebony Slumbers

Rate this book
Lucky. Perfect…Cursed.

Eight men will do anything to protect me, but not even they can protect me from myself.

I want out of these four walls. Away from the movies I’ve watched over and over. I want out of the same conversations…for they are all lies.

I had a life once. Before someone tried to kill me.

My guardians say they’ll keep me safe from this killer, who will strike again, but it’s hard to be scared of something you don’t remember.

And the itch to escape is going to drive me crazy.

I have a choice to make. Stay inside where it’s safe, or risk it all for a taste of freedom.

As my nightmares become reality, I don’t think I can resist much longer.

Ebony is just too childish. I don't see her as an interesting protagonist besides her looks. Most of the time in the book she spent whining over her circumstances. Her character is sadly underdeveloped and so are all the males in her life.

The ending was the most interesting part of the story and the reveal was exciting that would leave you intrigued about book 2 but I just didn't find this stimulating enough to want to read the next story.

Ebony Slumbers

This was an amazing and unique story that I just couldn't get enough of. Ebony draws you in, and while she may seem bratty in some parts, its definitely a reflection of how anyone would react in that situation.
Sheehan, Felix and Colton make you feel like you need to hug them and never let go. Arien, Rafe and Brax captivate you and make you want to learn more about them. Whereas Zephyr and Hunter make you want to beat some sense into them (I'm sure they'll grow on me in further books). Cannot wait for the next book :)

Unpopular opinion: Ebony honestly deserves more slack.

I don't think the other reviews and critique of her character are TOO far fetched as she admittedly did get on my nerves sometimes and seemed naive/childish with a fake front to seem "tough".

BUT, I think it's important to understand all of this in the context of the situation she was in. I think by doing so, makes it easier to feel for her, gain sympathy, and see her less as a "bratty"/"childish" (what other people have said) and more as a lost, confused, and frustrated woman who just wants answers.

Aside from the "controversy" of Ebony as a character, I actually enjoyed the overall mystery this book presented. I don't normally love books that start off confusing and give little to no answers about the characters/background. But this one wasn't bad at all. I think this book being a shorter read helped with that aspect, which I liked.

The only issue that sort of bugged me was the thing that happened between Ebony and Zephyr. All of the guys are supposedly in love with her and are devoted to protecting her, but he essentially thought she'd be an easy lay after sort of confessing to the guys? This just confused me because his behavior in this one scene seemed to be such a contrast to what had been generally said about him. I'm hoping he gets better tho because he's definitely not in a good light rn and is probably the least favorite of Ebony besides Hunter.

Suspenseful

It took me a while to figure out what was going on because I literally didn't read anything about what this book was about. But I seriously enjoyed it, it was thrilling and suspenseful and the characters were great, Sheehan being my favorite so far. The secrets, and Ebony 's temperament make for a volatile and Entertaining combination. This was such a unique story that you don't even realize it's a fairytale retelling, I'm still trying to figure out most of which man is which dwarf.

Loved it!

I loved this book! It was really interesting. I’m usually not too fond of fairytale revamps, but I really enjoyed it. I liked that there were 8 guys - I definitely am looking forward to seeing more of them in the next book. They are all different and I can’t wait to see the relationships grow more. The book was well written and kept me on my toes. Excited for the next one.

Simply wonderful! Ms. Blake writes beautifully! Not sure how her sales aren't higher. This book is a reverse harem paranormal romance. It is the first in a series of 3 adult novels. I really enjoyed Ms. Blake's take on a retelling of Snow White. It is truly unique. Ebony drew me in with her grandiose and sometimes egocentric personality. The hottttt guys kept me hooked and wanting more and more and more. Can't wait for book 2!!!! Nova is a must-buy author for me! 5 blazing stars!

The twists and turns of ‘Ebony Slumbers’ make you want to read more. It feels like a altered retelling of Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, yet its is not. I have had ‘heroine dreams’ my entire life. It would be so awesome to discover I am a changing. This story draws you in and carries you along a twisted path of deceit and honesty. Oh, and several hunks to add to the distractions. Thank you, Nova Blake.

I absolutely loved this book! Amazing characters and world building. Just enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and just enough steamy scenes to curl your toes. Can't wait for more!

This novella had me hooked from beginning to end. There's romance and intrigue throughout, and it's perfectly paced. There were a couple of steamy scenes and a ton of suspense. Looking forward to book two. Highly recommended!

Bratty Brat

Sheesh! I thought I was a brat but Ebony takes it to the next level. Still, I like her willingness to put her men in check and how comfortable she is in her sexual nature. I want to read the next book to find out more about the boy toys.

Good start

Good start to a RH story. The story is slow to get started and at times during the book wanted it to pick up with the story line, but overall good. Look forward to starting the 2nd book.

I just couldn't get into this book.

I know the point of the story and it how it was necessary to start it off right off the bat.
But I was confused for the first majority of the book.

I ended up skipping to the end just to see if it would entice me, but it didn't.

Just wasn't for me.

Good read

This is my first book by this author. I loved the characters. So far it is a good read not a whole lot of suspense or action but I feel like it will be in the next book.

An awesome remake

If the rest of this series is as thrilling as this first book, then I'm in for one heck of a ride!

Steamy paranormal. Almost seems like a retelling of Cinderella. From her point of view.
