Cooper Bay has dreamed his whole life of acting. So when his brother Nick surprises him with a leading role in a B-horror movie, Cooper can't say no.
The only catch is the team's filming location is off-limits to the public. Yet, that doesn't sway film director, Luca Sanchez. He's set on trespassing North Brother Island, an abandoned isle in the middle of New York City set aside as an avian reserve for a bird that no longer graces its shores.
Ready to make a movie, Cooper and his new film mates cross the East River to shoot their scenes among the restricted island's decaying ruins. But a day into production fellow actor, Riley Cannon, goes missing, leaving only a smear of blood on a nearby tree.
Cooper swears he heard something in the woods before Riley went missing, but no one believes him. Once the screams begin to rise, Cooper wishes he had never signed up for this real life horror story.

A group of actors and producers head off to a supposedly deserted island...what could go wrong? As I stated in my title this book has lots of twists and turns. Just when I thought I had figured it out, something else would happen and I would be led down a different path. I was drawn into the story further when the creatures were introduced and the killing began. The ending of the book took another turn, one I really didn't see coming. But, who would want a predictable ending?
I was given an ARC copy of this book by the author Jordon Greene. Thank you Jordon! Although I found this book a little slow in the beginning while everything was being set up, once it got going the suspense was non-stop. A group of film makers go to a tiny island off the coast of NYC ,which is closed to the public, in order to make a movie. Many years ago the island was a hospital used for people quarantined with contagious diseases, but was now deserted and falling apart and used supposedly as a bird reserve. But the group soon find that they are not alone........and that is when the action starts and does not let up! All I can say I'd WOW, WHAT A RIDE! I really got into this book and characters. The writing and descriptions were excellent. My one complaint was the idea that they were filming a movie. A movie crew would not go to a restricted place without permission, unless maybe they are an amateur group of people. But this group did have a money man producer which I can't see with a group of amateurs. Also, it was mentioned that they were planning to spend two nights there filming. Was the two nights for filming the entire movie, or just a few location shots? No way can an entire movie be shot in a two day period. I initially was hung up on this problem. But after I got past that, I really enjoyed the story.
Unlike my other horror stories, this one combines a small bit of science-fiction, but continues to utilize real-life locations. This story features the Riverside Hospital for Quarantinable Diseases on the long abandoned North Brother Island set in the middle of New York City. It's a creepy tale that's sure to rattle your nerves. I hope you enjoy it!
The concept of The Reserve is quite original, and its fast-paced story will keep you glued until it's finished. The Kindle version has a few editing hiccups, but all in all, The Reserve is a fun, thrilling read that will keep you on your toes.
First, I want to thank the author, Jordon Greene, for a free copy of his book in exchange for an honest review. And thank you Jordon for taking me to North Brother Island! Which is a real place and Typhoid Mary really was quarantined there! I love a good dose of history with my fiction.
Have you ever got sucked into a horror movie on a Saturday afternoon and before you know it, it's been two hours and the movie is over?! That is exactly how The Reserve is; a fast-paced, bloody fun horror story. It even reads like a movie. As I was reading it, I could picture it playing out like a movie. A slight complaint, and this has to do with me not the book, I wish I read it faster! Because it is so fast paced and the story takes place in the span of only a few days, it would have been an overall better experience if I had been able to read it a lot faster than I was able to. Although, I did read the second half in one afternoon because I just HAD to find out how it ended. And that ending!
Unfortunately, I did not really connect with the main narrator, Cooper. I thought he was immature (although he was only 20) and sometimes his thoughts were not where I thought they should have been given the situation. I did love Nick and Helen. I think overall Helen was the most developed although she didn't really shine until the second half of the book.
I'd definitely recommend The Reserve if you are looking for an entertaining horror story.
Un-put-downable!! Masterfully written. Each layer is carefully peeled away to reveal more terror, heightened tension, and unspeakable horror. The spooky nature reserve, itself, is an unforgettable villain that won’t soon leave the impressionable regions of my brain. I’ve recommended The Reserve to all my horror fan tribe.
An entertaining story of self indulgent twenty -somethings shooting a movie on North Brother Island when they are attacked by humanoid beasts. Names like Brooklyn, Luca, and Cooper all get taken down, although there is a Nick and a Helene (Nelson and Sedona probably couldn't make the cast). It's a blood bath of body parts and the sudden end to some Twitter accounts.

"Give me the blood and the gore, scare me, scar me. I love it." "The green tendrils scale up its walls, breach its broken windows and disappear over its roofline. It's almost like the building is not even there, but instead it becomes a massive bulk of plant life." The author Jordon Greene takes the reader on a journey to a long deserted island in the middle of New York, where a post-apocalyptic horror movie will be filmed. A small group of friends/actors and the film crew find more than they bargained for. The grown-up bush seems to be alive with unexplained noises and lots of what could it be's abound. "A groan slithers out of the woods, past the slender tree trunks. I twitch my head up and look past Gabe towards the border. It doesn't sound like any of the noises I'm still trying to grow accustomed to out here, the crickets chirping and other insects buzzing about." Excellent writing and creativity; this book kept me on the edge of my seat and worried for the characters as I turned every page. The author has a gift for creating images and describing the surroundings. It makes the reader feels like you are right there in the story.
ALL the Cliches'...but a good read to kill time. Boy meets girl, girl and boy fall in love while filming a horror movie on a DARPA managed facility on an island in New York(unbeknowst to them), but still find time to f#!%, while fleeing man-made monsters. That about sums it up.
This book hooks you from the beginning all the way to the end. It's the kinda book that should be made into a movie. Spoiler alert, the book ends in a way that makes most angry. You want a happy ending but your not going to get it here. You want so much more but the story is just over. It's like the author didn't know where to go with the ending so he just ends it. I want more, I wanted them to make it. Otherwise, this book is totally worth reading!😁
I did not want to put this book down. It reminded me of a perfect combination of American Horror Story and Stranger Things. The twists and turns in this story were not what I was expecting. I loved the author's style of writing and after reading this I look forward to reading more of his work as this was the first I've read.
Captivating book from the start with a horrible. Ending. Now reason why the two left had to die. After all the suffering. Shot in the head really? Fucking retarded

The story line was good. It had some holes but overall, decent. However, this was the worst ending ever. I could not hate it anymore than I do. A perfectly good story was ruined in one paragraph.
