Jake Sullivan #2

Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

Rate this book
It is the end of June and President Jordan Fletcher has just negotiated a historical treaty with Cuba, and its signing will be held at the end of October in Miami. Because of Fletcher s past relationship with him in the Benjamin Matthews matter, he has asked Jake Sullivan to coordinate the treaty signing ceremony. Just as Jake and his investigator and close friend, Mike Lang, begin their job, they receive the astounding news that Benjamin Matthews has died in prison of a heart attack, at the same time learning that an assassination plot has been hatched against the President and Raul and Fidel Castro. Working with a threat analysis expert from the Secret Service, Jonathan Clark, and Paula Cortez, a specialist in Cuban affairs from the FBI, who appears to be more than just a former colleague of Mike Lang, Jake sets about trying to diffuse the plot by discovering the identity of a mysterious assassin known only as The Agent , employed by an even more secret organization, The Birth of New Madrid. As the summer months move by with the assassin still on the loose, the tension builds at Jake s office, just as tension builds out on the open water as a very active hurricane season is underway. Worrying about Mother Nature and the plot at hand, Jake and his team finally come face to face with their mysterious assassin and soon come to realize he is only part of a much greater threat. Racing to save the treaty signing and the lives of the President and the Castro brothers, this second novel by Chip Bell heads to an explosive finish where Jake discovers the true nature of the danger they face and finds himself in one final battle a battle for his life and the lives of his family now that he realizes the ultimate truth the target all along was him.

Hurricane Season by Chip Bell

Jake Sullivan is an attorney who appears to revel in hot water. This is the second of the Jake Sullivan Trilogy. It is a action adventure primarily set in Miami, Florida.

Jake is riding the crest of his wave of success, reveling in his new found confidence and lack of alcohol. His reconciliation is advancing with his family and he is a "friend" of the President. His nemesis, Benjamin Mathews is safely behind bars.

Jake is tapped to facilitate the reconciliation between two estranged nations. This is not something he wants but finds himself heading the reconciliation program.

It wouldn't be an action adventure if all things proceeded well. The story introduces Navy Seals, all of the U.S. intelligence agencies and a surprising villain.

Bell does a better job in showing the action and thought in this second book. It was enjoyable.

I recommend.

The President is having a treaty signed with the Castro brothers in Miami, and he enlists Jake Sullivan (the District Attorney) to handle security coordination with all of the lettered organizations because of a past association. Jake is doing well: he's alcohol-free, he has a good relationship with his ex-wife & daughters, and his nemesis Matthews is safely locked in a security prison. But he doesn't need the extra work or headaches, especially when he learns a diabolical threat is afoot.

Good action, but it was easy to figure out the mastermind and know "superman" Jake will save the day.

Fast read

Looking for some lite reading but with some pizazz. The story offered an interesting story line, believable characters and some nice twists and turns. Most of all, it didn’t take a month to read. I would suggest this book to those going to the beach and wanted a little excitement.

A quick book with a fun twisting story. Not a lot of surprises, and everything works out for the superhero friend of the president.

Even better than the first Jake Sullivan Novel. I loved the setting of Miami (kept thinking about Dexter!). Figured out some of the twists but was totally surprised by others!

Amazing page Turner, from start to finish. Chip Bell doesn't disappoint one bit with the 2nd book of Jake Sullivan.
