The Dregs #4

The Smuggler

Rate this book
She wants the bounty on my head. I want one night with no limits. Can we reach an agreement that will benefit us both?
----

Discharged.

As a soldier that was the thing I dreaded most. Fighting and killing were my life. What I did best.

Now I am cast out like a bag of trash. Condemned to die.

Just a dreg.

My physical injuries are minuscule. My mental ones severe.

I’m messed up. Loco. So, they whisper…

I no longer have purpose. My mind is withering. Action is what I need. Violence. War. I thrive in chaos, my talents honed on its edge.

Then a gorgeous redhead tricks me. Takes me as her captive. Now I am chained like a beast with no way out. She has dared to take on the Smuggler. One slip and I will escape and make her pay. Oh baby, I will. Retribution has never been so stimulating. There will be utter carnage.

But suddenly, I am freed. And the tables have turned. Now she’s my prisoner, compelled to do my bidding. The challenge in her eyes calls to me. A fever rushing in my veins.

I can’t lose this battle. I won’t let her win. I will show her what the Smuggler can do.

Because losing means she’s taken something I don’t want to admit I ever had.

A heart.

*** This is an 8-book series. These books are romantic suspense with sci-fi elements. Each contains a separate dreg's story (and no cliffhangers!) However, it is recommended that they be read in order to get the full "dreg" experience. These books contain strong language, adult situations, and a few steamy scenes. Recommended for readers ages 18 and up. ***

He was Tony the big bad broken guy who had no heart, who was left abandoned, who was broken from inside, and he reminded me of ME.... How could I not love him, how could I stop loving MYSELF?!

From Book 1, I knew Tony needed someone larger than life, who had a kind heart, whose fighting skills would match his and who had more than enough love to share forever, who never gave up on him. And enter Grace the cop and bounty hunter, with long red hair and green eyes who could just zap Tony with a single look and whose Irish blood boiled hot with Tony's touch.

Grace was everything I wanted for my Tony, and author Leslie Georgeson has done a fabulous job bringing these two together again and again. Tony couldn't stay away from her, she was that sexy, but she wanted more and hence he couldn't stay with her. But lost children, gangs, and the Company from the past made these two fight for a life together, slowly healing each other.

Leslie's writing made me start believing in myself, believing in the elusive emotion known as love. Her scenes, especially in the way Grace handled a broken Tony made me long for my own mate. As in all the books by this author, the heat from the lovemaking was scorching. I loved the way the first kiss is described in her books. There is something innocent and sensuous in them.

I have started expecting twists and action in all her books, and the author does not disappoint. This had Grace fighting hard alongside Tony and that warmed my 'quiet loving' heart.

What can I say, Tony was special
They are the Dregs and I love them all and that's all that matters

Awesomely dark and broody Hero!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤❤️💜🩵
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️☺️😊😍

The Hero: Antonio - he was kidnapped as a young child, by a crazy general who was trying to create a team of super soldiers. The general and the other people that worked for “The Company”, experimented on the boys to create The Dregs, a new breed of soldier. The boys were kept prisoner in cells with only their cell mate to talk to. The ones that survived, developer supernatural abilities and a deep bond with their cell mate. Tony and Nate became best friends and leaned on each other through the worst times. They have since escaped captivity and live in a maze deep below a crumbling mansion on a Georgia plantation. The Company is still searching for them, and they have some gangs after them as well, wanting to use their abilities for their own advantage and to get back at them for what happened in the earlier books.

“Though my past had been erased with memory-suppressing drugs, my subconscious knew I’d never been the recipient of any type of kindness in my life. Violence and brutality were all I knew. No one had ever loved me. No one had ever cared.”

“All the experiments I’d undergone, all the painful injections of numerous drugs and animal DNA had turned me into something unique.
I was now The Smuggler.
I could disappear. Literally. I could become invisible for short periods of time. And I could escape from nearly any situation. My joints were more flexible than the other boys’. I was like a contortionist, though slightly different. And no locked door could keep me out. If I wanted on the other side, I simply imagined myself there, and used my energy to get me there. I was a true magician. Without the tricks.”

“Nate accepted me just as I was. He became the brother I never had. The best friend who soon knew all my secrets.
Well, except for one.
I could see ghosts. I could talk to dead things. And they talked back.”

The heroine: Grace - she was an Irish cop in Eatonton Georgia. Since the gang wars began in Augusta, her town had developed a bit of a prostitution problem, so she had been out on the streets posing as a prostitute and arresting Johns. Grace also did some bounty hunting on the side, so she was used to going up against men that were larger than her. She often used Rohypnol to incapacitate them so she could handcuff them and bring them in without a fuss. After her shift of undercover work, she was at a local Irish pub drowning her sorrows and thinking about her two foster girls that had disappeared days ago. She feared the Flesh King had them. He was a gang leader in Augusta who made his money from human trafficking.

The story: One night when Tony was feeling out of sorts, and Nate was busy with his girl Alissa, two of the other Dregs, Luke and Ryan, are going out to a local bar to pick up some women. They suggest that Tony come along since he obviously needs to relieve some stress, and it has been a long time since he was with a woman. He goes with them and immediately sees Grace sitting at the bar. He propositions her and is surprised that she wants to take him to her place for some fun. However, the fun turns into him being drugged and tied to her bed.

One thing I love about these books is the deep bond the guys share with their cell mates. Nate and Antonio were such opposites, but they really care about each other and want the best for each other. I read the first three books in this series a while ago and though I gave them five stars each, I couldn’t wait to read Antonio’s book because he was such a dark and tortured character. Though I did give it some time between books because sometimes when reading a series like this, you just need a break to go on to lighter stuff for a while.

I loved how Tony is so broody, and you can see why since he talks to ghosts that nobody else can see, add that to some PTSD and the fact that he just recently found out that his mother never wanted him. He is such a sexy character though, so you can’t help but love his darkness. The fact that one of his superpowers was the ability to become invisible, was pretty amazing as well.

I wasn’t as fond of Grace though. I like women with inner strength, often women who seem weaker at first but show a lot of grit and determination through the story. But Grace was a bit too much for me. Not only was she a cop and a bounty hunter, but she liked to be in charge in the bedroom and she kept fighting for what she wanted even when it didn’t make sense. Like when her two foster daughter were missing and most likely in the hands of a sex trafficker, where they could get raped or even sold at any second. Grace spent literally hours waiting around because she couldn’t get her way over something that shouldn’t have mattered given the situation. But overall, the stories and action in these books are so good that it just overwhelms anything I might not like, and this one is still a 5 star read!

Oh, Tony!!! Grace was the right one to get through to you ! Straight to your heart. I am so hooked on this series ~ I've read one each night and have purchased the next four! I'm only bummed that this wonderful group of guys is finite, and that when we've heard the last of their stories, that will be the end . . . :-'(

This is such a great series. They just keep getting better. This is a standalone but you get the full benefit if you read the previous books. I love the personality of the Dreg brothers. This is Grace and Tony's story. Grace is strong, a cop and bounty hunter. She has a heart of gold and a no nonsense personality. Tony is a alpha male with so many things in his past that affect his personality. He thinks he can't feel, can't love. When he and Grace meet they feel the connection but fight it. She needs his help. Will they find they need each other? This is a well written, interesting, pull you in and keep your interest read. I loved it. I recommend Leslie's book to all. She is one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to read the next in the series. This is a must read!! I received it as an arc and voluntarily left my review. Can't say enough good about Leslie's books.

Tony was scared of Grace a cop after she drugged him and tied him to the bed to make him say that he would help her to get her foster girls. The Flesh King had kidnapped them to sell them but he let them go to the police station and left the place they had been at. Tony having trouble with letting Grace into his heart which he thought that he was unloveable because of the way he had been treated. Darcy their stepsister let their father (the general) experiment on her, she wanted him to love her but he never did. Tony and Grace were having problems with Darcy and the black dragons, finally Darcy was taken care of and they would be moving out of the maze heading to Idaho with the ones that left before.

Tony and Grace's story is both sweet and frustrating.

The dregs are ready for some time with the ladies and when Ryan and Luke talk Tony into going out with them one night he meets Grace. What would happen next is funny and gets funnier by the minute.

Tony may have just met his match. But is he willing to let her in?

I gave this book three stars because there is a lot of repetition in the commentary they have amongst themselves. But you need to read this book to have a complete round picture of this series.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this series of books… I loved the guys of course, drool worthy imaginary yum-Yums. I really don’t know who was my favorite character personality but all books are well worth the read…
I enjoyed the origina lity of the Dregs and the story behind their training and was furious with the abuses they endured.
I had a hard time putting each of the stories down I spent most of the week on many short sleep nights… but well worth it.

Sigh... Usually I can let my imagination roam in a story and don't get too caught up in the storyline details. So much of this one was wrong.

The story was hot and engrossing. But if the Dregs have been living outside of the little town for over a year and people keep finding them - how are the bad guys not?

I was the most nervous about reading this story. Tony's story. He's been intense, dark and kinda scary. This book gave the reader the chance to get to know more about him from both his POV and our main gals. He is now my favourite dreg, as a result

The Smuggler is the fourth book in The Dregs series and is Tony and Grace's story.

The characters are likable, relatable, and have fabulous chemistry. The storyline is well written and flows nicely, with action, suspense, intrigue, and steamy romance. The author handled Tony's PTSD in a sensitive manner.

Even if you slow down the reading pace the book still ends ???
Unfortunately that's what I found out.

I didn't want this book to end. I was enthralled !
And there were hot hot intimate scenes, at last,
all along with feelings and confusion and internal struggle.
Thank God someone was clever and stubborn enough to chase the "attraction" and lock down the future:
Grace of course...

The Smuggler

Tony is feeling left out now that Nate and Alissa are a couple. He gets talked into going to a bar with two of the other Dregs to find a woman to hook up with. Grace is there unwinding from a long day of pretending to be a prostitute. He takes one look at her and makes a beeline to her side. The chemistry between them is off the charts and the battle of wills begins. She knows he is Dreg, but as Alissa's friend she also knows the Dregs are good guys with a bad rap.
