Two warriors—one Survival…. Sergi Lazaroff is a weapons expert and a spy for the Russian FSB. Assigned to the Project Gliese 581g exploration team as a mission specialist, his job was supposed to be simple—learn all he could about the man-made object in space that no one from Earth made, and return home to convey that valuable information to the FSB. When he wakes up on an alien planet in an escape pod, Sergi knows the last part of his mission will be impossible. Instead, he’ll have to use every trick he has to survive in a world where he doesn’t know the rules. La’Rue Gant has landed on a planet belonging entirely to assassins for one reason one of the mysterious pods that everyone is looking for landed here. It’s worth a lot of credits, and she currently needs credits so desperately that she’ll even take them from the Director of the Legion Andronikos. In the meantime, she’s trying very hard not to think about how many lives Andronikos has destroyed in this ridiculous war, or why he’s so interested in someone bringing him these pods, because she needs to collect this bounty! The pod itself was surprisingly not difficult to find, but actually getting it to her ship when the competition and the previous occupant of the pod are larking about… is proving a bit difficult…really, really difficult. The hunter becomes hunted, and nothing is turning out like La’Rue thought it would…. Caught in the middle of an alien civil war, two fighters from vastly different backgrounds must come together to fight for the survival of the Knights of the Gallant Order as the Legion forces close in around them. Can they slip through the traps set up to snare them, or will the Legion Director finally capture not one, but two of the prophesied ancient Knights of the Gallant Order? What a great addition to this series. La'Rue is a terrific heroine and just right for Sergi. This science fiction romance/action adventure series is getting better as it goes. This civil war that the five members of the Gliese have stumbled upon may actually have a good outcome. The Rebels look like they have a real chance against the Legion with the new support they have gained. I am never sure if Susan is giving hints to future books or if it is just coincidence when familiar things show up. Like Gateways, Ancients and Marastins. I'll have to keep reading to find out!
Josh and Ash have their mates. Sergi has ambushed his chosen lady. Now Julia, the sole civilian of the crew of Project Gliese 581g, has chosen her man. After seeing the kind of women the men of the crew bonded with, why did I think that the women of the crew would be any different? Strong, opinionated, seeking principled purpose - I admit I did not expect to apply those descriptors to Julia's chosen. I have to wonder what Mei's chosen will be like.
Oh Smith has definitely turned it on in this installment. I think she’s hit her stride and totally has the rhythm that she wants this series to have. -The big Russian never loses his sense of humor and his sense of survival and he’s just a fun protagonist. -La’Rue is pitch perfect as a outside the box survivalist. -The guys are bad. -The good guys are plentiful and worth rooting for. -The action is so much fun. It’s like watching the best Saturday afternoon movie. Smith says there will be more...count me in!
I love SE Smith. She’s an auto buy for me. Unfortunately I found this to be one of her books I liked the least. It wasn’t bad, I just kept reading waiting for something exciting and the romance to happen. What romance that did happen was pretty lukewarm. However still love the author.
I liked Sergi and La’Rue together. I liked that La’Rue had a messy breakup and that Sergi realized his spy status would come in handy after landing in the pod. Both characters were strong and joined forces to find the rest of the team. The progression of the series does not duplicate overmuch. I can’t wait to see Julia’s story.
This was a wonderful continuation of the Project Gliese 581G series and I hope there will be more written soon. If you enjoy reading sci-fi romance then you will love it too. Must be read in order.
This is the best in the series as it feels as though it’s all coming together and the characters stories are blending nicely together. Lots of baddies to be dealt with and hope the author starts killing them off. Awaiting the next in the series.
This was a disappointing read, it started off interesting then it devolved. Then it became a bad copy of star wars, the romance was pathetic, all I can say thank goodness this was a library book
While exploring an alien gate system Sergie Lazaroff is a Russian Spy and Weapons master on a mission to explore an alien gate system that was discovered in nearby space. He was expected to maintain his cover, he was expected to report everything he learned. He wasn't expecting to come to bound with his crew of international astronauts like a family, but never the less he had.
Face with the pressure of his mission, and the comradery he has developed, he knows things will become tough when the mission is complete. That is if it get completed, because he also didn't expect an accident to drive him into the Alien ships power core, and he didn't expect to wake up on an alien planet, alone.
But the forces of the Universe aren't through with him and soon he joins forces with a beautiful alien, as a civil war brews around him, and an Alien Legion hunts for him and his crew.
S.E. Smith is weaving a space Opera that is worth of the being compared to the classics of the 70s and 80s. The characters are larger than life, and the situation is both fantastical and yet fun.
If you are looking for a hard science story, or a heavy military story this one might not be for you. The characters are melodramatic, and the earthers apparently have some kind of pheromone that turns the aliens on and turns them into putty in the earther's hands. I admit to snort laughing when Surgie, on first meeting La’Rue shuts her up with a passionate kiss, or by playing with her hair. This story is a perfect fit for the post pubescent child in us all, but I wouldn't likly spend a audible credit on it alone, maybe in a omnibus.
Third in this series. Another good addition. Sergi and La'Rue. I really wasn't sure how I would feel about Sergi but I love him. While I hesitate to say it ends on a cliffhanger, the story is ongoing and features a different couple in each book. This series really needs to be read in order to truly appreciate it.
This series is like a mashup of Stargate & Star Wars. The banter is great, a touch of romance, & many scrapes to get out of.... H the 8 legged robot is definitely a little Hero. Quietly assisting, even with the creepy wake ups. Impatiently waiting on the next book to find May.
This story reminds me why chess is a war game. It had back and forth. When you thought all was lost, surprise moves were made, sacrifices made to protect the main players. Looking forward to others in series. So far this couple is my favorite.
