I need this on my bookshelf ASAP. So many golden nuggets in here. If you’re a highlighter like me, you’ll probably find yourself highlighting a couple times (or a lot of the time 🙋🏽‍♀️) throughout this book.

I read this on Kindle Unlimited and quickly realized how much I wished I had a physical copy so I can follow along the journal-like prompts properly. But if anything, it just makes me that much more excited for when I do have a physical copy, so I can go over this again.

I kinda wished I’d read this sooner but at least I’ve read it now and it resonates deeply with the season I’m in.

In fact, I’m willing to bet that there’s not at least ONE thing in here you won’t be able to resonate with…if you feel called to write!

I will be revisiting this book again and again in my writing journey/career.

Highly recommend to anyone who feels called to write by God, whether you write nonfiction, Christian fiction or even general market fiction.

This writing devotional is underrated and needs way more reviews! It deserves all the stars!

“Whether your writing is to comfort those who are hurting or to serve as a catalyst for change, God is always on the look out for those willing and ready to serve with their writing. Whether He calls you to write Christian or secular works of art, He is calling you to serve with excellence.”

“Feedback is a stepping stone to success. It is not a death threat unless we allow ourselves to be intimated and invalidated by it.”

Practical, spiritually-applicable advice for the Christian writer! I only wish it was longer.
When I purchased this e-book, I did not realize that it would be journal-prompt heavy. This made the book come out weirdly formatted on Kindle, so I wish I would have bought a physical copy instead.
Overall, I got a lot from this little guy, for life as well as writing.
Will be recommending it to my Christian writer friends. <3

I love this book!

This book was just what I needed at the perfect time. In fact I have read it twice. And no doubt I will read it again the next time the enemy starts slinging arrows at me that cause me to doubt my calling.

Inspirational and thought-provoking

When God calls a writer, Satan's going to try to block the call.

It's so easy to get distracted and discouraged. I should know. I let rejection and the pursuit of "more money" lead me away in the wilderness for years before God graciously allowed me back on the path to the Promised Land.

Don't be like me. Keep writing WITH God. Keep walking with Him and listening for His voice.

This book can help you with that.

Books on Writing

As a believer of God and a love for writing, I couldn’t wait to find the time and read this book. When God calls a Writer is a great book for new writers who are trying to push themselves to write, as well as experienced writers who may have lost the knack for it do to the many changes in life. I am glad I have this book on my kindle shelf to reference and reread when I need to refocus on my why and love for writing.

This book is an invaluable resource for every Christian writer. I purchased the kindle edition but would recommend the reader to purchase the paperback. Although it can be read in just over an hour, the book contains lots of blank pages and inspiration from the Bible to write in our own thoughts and inspirations which makes the kindle edition rather frustrating. Highly recommended.

Exactly What I Needed

I struggle often to accept "being a writer", but this book opened my eyes. Writing is not just something I'm associated with because I like words. I've been called to do this and bring glory to His name. I'm grateful to know that He's right there with me every step of the way! Absolutely amazing book!

Many times I question the call of writing. Looking back I always has a notebook and pen in my hand. But I still didn't believe that I call be called to write. This book by Deanne Welsh was very encouraging. I loved how she use scriptures to back up her inspiring words. A highly recommended book.!

Clear, concise, thought-provoking. This book helps clarify the why and how for a writer, so that taking steps forward are easier. Her examples are relevant and approach effective in helping a writer define their goals. Also, it’s not a thick book so makes a great gift!

I didn't start out writing Christian books; I started out by writing secular books, practically romantic ones. I had a passion for reading/reviewing books belonging to a broad spectrum of genres since around August of 2014. In fact, Amazon has designated me as being a TOP CONTRIBUTION for True Crime reviews. In 2018, my mainstay in reviewing books shifted towards reading/reviewing nonfiction Christian books. In 2019, almost 45% of the 264 books I had reviewed belonged to this genre; since I was a YA romance author, I got inspired to write a YA Christian romance. At the same time, when I came down with episodes of writer's block, I decided to write Christian short stories written in response to a prompt word that incorporated Scripture.

This, in turn, inspired me to start writing my Christian blog, where I share the words of the Lord on a daily, with His guidance from time to time. Ever since then, my relationship with the Lord has grown dramatically.

Reading this book by its author, Deanne Welsh, I felt it was a part of my life since I got inspired to publish my third Christian book. Where instead of being fiction [incorporating Scripture in either part or through the book], I wrote discussions of 40 various topics based on Scripture. This inspiration happened during a dream I had, a dream in which only the Lord could have spoken to me regarding writing it.
We, as Christians, need to remember that one of the ways the Lord speaks to us is through His inspired dreams. And during the two years I've been sharing His words, my writing has been transformed and has become more defined. Sometimes, when I am at a loss as to what to write, I dream about what it should be about.

Ms. Welsh has done a marvelous job in telling her readers about the Lord's desire to have His chosen individuals become writers so they can share His words with others and how to recognize if this is the case for them. For her desire to have her readers' lives transformed by becoming chosen writers for the Lord, I've given Ms. Welsh 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

"Have you felt the call?" Yes, I certainly did. But what to do after that call? That's where Deanne comes in. She helps you start on the path or even continue your path to write what God has called you to write.

"When God nudges you to write, you may not feel ready or worthy." How many Christians want to write but don't feel worthy or capable? This little book will stimulate your thinking. Starting with a look at Moses, Deanne takes us through the story so we find out we can do this - because God has called us.

"Persistence is a super-power." This book isn't just a read through. It's a study to help you make decisions, pray and listen to God.

If you have been on the fence about your writing, pick up a copy of this wonderful book. Work through it and become the person God has called you to be.

Are you questioning whether God might be calling you to write? Are you needing some encouragement and guidance? If so, check out this book.

This is a nice short book. It is less than a hundred pages, consisting of four chapters divided into segments of 2-3 pages. If that's not enough, it's written where there's no first line indent, with a double space between paragraphs, and said paragraphs have the max of three sentences (often being one sentence and one line).

The above format makes the thoughts seem a little choppy, which is a good thing. The result is you have a short thought easy to focus on.

You'll want a pen - Welsh gives you questions. You might want to have a separate notebook to write those answers.

If you're a Christian considering writing (either fiction or non-fiction), you'll want this book.

The book is very good, and I will no doubt be using its tools, suggestions, and principles for years, if not decades to come. This book gives you tools, not only to become a writer, but to establish a devotional prayer life—which is the wellspring from which creativity flows for the follower of Christ. Thank you so much, Ms. Welsh!

That said, a word of advice to all Kindle readers: Have a journal handy with you before you begin—the key to this book is doing the tasks suggested, and following its prompts. Sadly, Kindle is not conducive to a journey such as this, in and of itself. You need a place to write your responses, and/or to meditate on the instructions given as you reread/reuse them. The best Kindle can do is to give you the opportunity to put your observation in a note, which you then have to switch away from the text to write or reread.

This is a short and thoughtful book to encourage those who feel they are called to write. While a quick read, there is lots of information in this book that will encourage you to keep moving forward as a writer and to not let the obstacles and burdens stop you. We are created by a creative God and he has given each of us a unique voice that we need to hone and use to help others. That's what writing is about. It's about learning to find your voice so you can help others.

"When God Calls a Writer" is a book I will return to often for encouragement when days get hard. It's essentially a shorter & faith-based version of "The War of Art." I highly recommend it to all my Christian writers out there!

The book was informative and encouraging. It delved into that private, personal space of the intellect and the emotion as to why I want to write. The writer made it clear that the desire to write was placed by God. I guess God is working in us giving the desire and the power to do His will.

God's call to writers shares important common themes with the call of Moses

Helpful use of the call of Moses as a parallel to the call of a writer. Very encouraging and Deanne obviously has a strong faith. I read it in a bit over an hour and found some ideas I will use. Grammar needs tightening. I also do not like masculine pronouns for God--iinclusive language is important. I liked the questions she asked. In answering them, you end up with a little journal for encouragement and inspiration to review.

Say, yes to Freedom and Goodbye to your insecurities!

Thank you Jesus for inspiring Deanne to wrote this book. You can hear the Holy Spirit ministry to your insecurities and feel the freedom and transformation as you read this book. If you need deliverance against the demons of doubt that God has called you to write read this book. The Bible says it's the truth you know that sets you free. There is freedom written all over these pages. In a surprisingly soft way, this book is a heart check and motivation for writers called by God!

Great Biblical Encouragement

This is a short and sweet study on moving past the barriers of insecurity, procrastination, etc. to write what God is calling you to write. I was able to read it in about an hour, but you could also use it as a daily Bible study since every concept has a verse attached to it. There are also reflection questions and opportunities to journal prayers related to the topics presented.

Recommended to writers who are newer to their calling to write or seasoned writers who are struggling with doubt, procrastination, conflict, or feeling stuck.

I immediately gave this little gem of a book five stars for several reasons. Though I have been writing for a while, I discovered this book through another Christian author on a day of deep discouragement. The fact that it came to my attention through a fellow writer, from this author following her own call from God, and the fact that God saw to it that I read this book, now, I had to give it five stars. Thank you to two authors and to God who so tenderly watches over me.
This book is full of encouragement and realistic thinking and goals. As authors we never know when our words may raise another up. I was raised up by this author who sought to help others like myself.

The timing of this book into my life was phenomenal! If you feel called to write this will encourage you forward, and give you practical steps to get started, including reflection questions along the way to help you process. I especially loved the idea of treating the calling as a career-even if a part time one at that. I thoroughly enjoyed this! I should add, this is more of a motivational book, than a “how to write a book,” guide.

My new favorite self-help book for authors

Whenever I recommend a book for aspiring writers I always recommend Honoree Corder's book "The Nifty 15" and "Prosperity for Writers"

I think this book overtook those books and took the number one spot for books I would highly recommend readers to read if they ever feel discouraged about their path/call as a writer

There are specific people who need your story and words. You have wording, pictures, and stories that will speak to specific people as no one else’s will.

Whether God gives you an audience of two or of thousands, trust His call and do everything in your power to follow with excellence, persistence and courage.

Just what I needed

I started to write a short story of my life for my grandson to have to read and know a little family history. I literally hit every stumbling block before reading this book and put my pen down. This book has encouraged me greatly and helped me overcome each road block in writing. Thank you for this book.

Worth the price of admission for where I am in the writing process. I am moving into the editing phase of my first book and Deanne writes, “Feedback is a stepping stone to success. It is not a death threat unless we allow ourselves to be intimated and invalidated by it.” Thank you for that! I am moving forward in courage.
