A 60,000-word novel about the struggle between religion and homosexuality from the perspective of a gay teen, as well as that of a new boy who comes into his life and challenges everything he has ever believed.
Preston is an up-and-coming football star at a rural high school in Tennessee in the fall of 2006. An ominous darkness covers the sleepy town, however, during this turbulent time when issues of homosexuality are at the forefront of everyone’s mind. While the popular teenager is determined not to allow his own emotional desires for other boys get in the way of his success, his world turns upside down when he meets Eric. In fact, he soon finds this new boy sweeps him off his feet.
Preston dares to ask himself, though, if the God he has always adored would approve of such a relationship between two boys. Now Preston finds himself torn between his religion and his natural desires for affection and human sexuality. Can he and Eric work through their romantic feelings for each other? Will these forbidden emotions actually end up separating them? Is there, indeed, some place where religion and homosexuality can coexist in perfect harmony? These are only some of the questions to which Preston must find an answer.
Preston’s internal struggles are not his only problems, however. When Billy, a super-religious and ultra conservative student at Preston’s school, finds out that the two boys share the most intimate desires for each other, he feels he must intervene for the glory of God. But Billy holds immense darkness in his heart—in addition to his fervent and zealous theological views—that might convince him to kill anyone he perceives to be a sinner, especially when he believes such is the will of God. And Billy’s power at this school is nearly unstoppable.
Will Preston and Eric find happiness in each other the likes of which they never dreamed possible? Can Preston salvage his faltering faith in the divine? Will the two boys even survive Billy’s wrath should he decide they must perish for the glory of the Most High?
