Saving Muffin is a classic western from R. O. Lane -- A mother, faced with losing her daughter in a fraudulent divorce proceeding, heads west on a wagon train. The wagon train is hit by Comanches, and the mother is critically wounded. Her four-year-old daughter is saved by hiding in the high prairie grasses in the Texas panhandle. A cattleman comes along and nurses the mother back to health and saves her daughter. The wounded woman and the cattleman fall in love and fight off many attempts by her wicked husband to kill his former wife and kidnap his daughter and bring her back to Chicago. In the end, saving Muffin (a nickname given to her by her new Pa) becomes a full-time job. Working together, the woman and the cattleman win the battle to save Muffin and give her a good life.
This is a wonderful Western story about a r brave little girl and her adoptive family. There are hair raising escapades. There are many wonderful heroes.
Thank goodness I have always been an avid follower of Mr. R. O. Lane, as this story is definitely one of his very best. There is an ongoing suspenseful excitement from beginning to end, and the adventures are definitely heartwarming to the avid readers of great western folklore.
This is a magnificent rendition of out true old western culture and is definitely worthy of the five stars I have awarded this masterpiece. I was hooked immediately and the excitement never ceases throughout the entire story. This is one of the most heartwarming adventures I have ever had the opportunity to follow. Too, the entire book is definitely family-friendly, as every episode reaches overwhelmingly positive adventures from beginning to end.
The entire selection of characters is unbelievable and the storylines are definitely classics, as this is certainly a worthy masterpiece of heartwarming adventures. This Author has definitely proven his worthiness through his diligence to achieve the most innovative reconstruction of our true old western adventures successfully.
Most definitely recommend this book to all of you readers who love adventure, romance and excitement that keeps your attention from beginning to end. To not read this book may result in your worst nightmare. Believe me, it is worthy of your time!😂
Saving Muffin was everything a great, old fashioned western wants to be. There was a tight story line with characters, that literally came alive for me. Madelyn, the child was so adorable. What I appreciate about this author is that events that actually happened at this time in history, we're portrayed very consistently as to what was recorded. This author never disappoints, these books are just like sitting down to spend some time with your favorite friend. BRAVO 👏👏BRAVO
Another great story coming out of the West of how people escaping a very very bad situations. In this situation the author points out how men of power and wealth use it to their advantage with bribery of lawyers, judges to rule in their favor. A very nasty business especially if your on the receiving end.. Reading this story also shows the ups and downs people face and how they cope with all this debauchery and keep a sense of balance. A great story with an even greater ending🐂🐴
Old West Era Drama with a Comanche raid on a wagon train leaving all dead they thought; so one woman barely lived & her 4 yr old daughter had been in the tall grass hiding beautifully written 5 STARS. This exceptional story that will grab you & not let go as each wonderful Shoot-em up action packed page turns. Emotionally the fear & evil can be felt by the reader because of the intensity shown. Finally, extrodinary love leaves a happy well satisfied reader, me. Recommend.
Enjoyed this book. Good story and realistic, loving and compassionate characters. However, I’ve read many books about the American West and got the impression that only gunfighters and bounty hunters rack up the amount of kills Seth and Ben accumulated. Also, most women during that time period played a demure role when meeting men for the first time. I’m feeling pretty certain that Jean wouldn’t have flirted with Seth when she was recovering from her injuries. All in all a good story with a happy ending! In these times, who can ask for more than that!
I rated this book 5 stars. Unfortunately, I ordered a Kindle book titled Saving Muffin from Amazon and while I received an electronic book with that title, the contents were the book Ethan’s Justice. So my 5 star rating applies to Ethan’s Justice, not Saving Muffin which I would like to read, but Amazon did not send it. My rating for Amazon on this transaction is 1 star, but that is only because a zero star is not an option and at least Amazon sent me something, although I already read Ethan’s Justice about four years ago and liked it a lot then, too.
Another finely crafted tale of re a l life in the Old West with a little Chicago Mafia circa 1870's style woven in ! Mr. Lane has a knack for developing highly believable characters with plots that blend accurate useage of weaponry with each character's persona in the storyline without bogging the reader down with useless, unbelievable trivia that doesn't enhance the plot. Another good read from Mr. Lane !
This was a very interesting story in which the protagonist is a moral person who in true western style rescued a woman who was seriously injured while escaping from villainous husband who is determined to take the small child to punish his former wife. There is romance and devotion of the protagonist for little child that he calls Muffin. The couple and Muffin continue to flourish as they live near his family. Muffin is delighted to have grandparents and learns how to ride a pony. Her evil father sends multiple people to attempt to kidnap the child. None were successful ending in their deaths. The Protagonist works with financial and legal authorities to punish the father, bankrupt him and is imprisoned for multiple crimes. The family is safe at last.
The characters were nicely developed making this and interest western romance novel.
I always love R.O. lanes novels. I like The history of the old west and I have traveled Colorado,New Mexico and most of the western states and re we ding his stories I can see in my minds eye the story come to life. He has a way with words and a down to life way of making the story live. As a child of bc a single mom I could understand "Muffins" feelings and independence. Another great read Mr. Lane! Also I am from East Texas so the area is very familiar to me.
My reviews of this author's novels might seem like a broken record, but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading every novel that he has written so far. He continues to write interesting, fast moving Westerns that are hard to stop reading once started. My hope is that he will continue writing great novels for a long time. I highly recommend this author.
I have read several of this author's books and LOVED every one of them. They are fast moving, exciting and very well written. I feel like I am almost part of the story. The picture painted comes completely to life. I am ready to go look for the next book by same author!
A Mother's love has no limits. Jean will do anything to keep her daughter safe and out of the hands of her ex husband. She is almost killed when Comanches attack the wagon train they are on. They are saved by a stranger, who ends up being all the protection they will need.
This is unfortunately the last of this Author books that he has written and I have thoroughly enjoyed each and everyone of them. They were all five stars. I enjoyed this book a lot because of all the action and suspense. What made this book exceptional was the brotherhood share by the two partners and the love for each other and their precious families.
The westerns written by Mr. Lane has all the elements of a book well written. I am an old fan of westerns, having grown up back in the era when cowboys were vogue. I am a great fan of wrongs being "righted" by the good guys, and by the bad guys receiving their "just deserts."
Excellent, R O, I've read all of your books, except for 3, maybe....you need to get on your horse and write some more....I'll read 'em all! I'll give u my email address, too...I'd love to communicate...I have some special skills of my own. Scotshot1@att.net. Washington state, Whidbey Island
I have so enjoyed this book! The characters are very well developed and seem real and the stories about them move quickly and kept my interest. I could hardly wait to read the next chapter! This author is just so good at his craft and this book is one of my favorites ,
What a great story this was. A definite page turner with lots of action. This book was absolutely fantastic and the people in the story were awesome and brave. Would highly recommend this book to everyone that enjoys a great western.
Normally, I’m a fan of the series. On occasion I’ll take a chance on an author that I’ve read. This story was great. I especially like that fact that the epilogue wrapper everything up in a nice little bow. Keep them coming. I’ll keep reading.
This is a very wonderful read. From one step to the next it never stops. I was very pleased with the characters in the way they moved together. I will definitely recommend this book. Remember the blueberries.
Two life long friends keep each other out of trouble and their lives make a great story. The cast of characters are interesting and help to make the story flow smoothly.
This is a good book about loyalty of family and friends, good and bad. It as also involves men in love with power. The story is well weaved together and I could not put it down until it was done. Was sorry it was over!
I mostly enjoyed the book but I thought Ben and Seth were way too worried about revenge. The buffalo hunters, the hustlers, the kidnappers all should have been turned over to the law. The west could have been a lot less deadly if people had used the law and not revenge.
I rate books by this standard: As I read, do I feel I'm walking with the characters through the story. I can happily say, I was right there with Seth and Ben as we fought Comanches, buffalo hunters, kidnappers, and rustlers!
If you like this genre. I've been having a difficult time finding a good book in this genre. I've gone a long time reading books in the other genres i enjoy but kept looking for a good western. This Book fit the bill. I recommend it.
A wonderful western about civil war veterans that becomes brothers that fought and raised families together. And a wonderful Indians and outlaws to fight. Honorable men greedy rich people.
Really well written with a believable and interesting story. Had a very interesting and possible story. I enjoyed the plot that included the city life of that era.
This is an old fashion western, and good adventure. The little girl ties it together as the focus of the adults action. I recommend the story for anyone who likes a good western with a little of everything else thrown in. Good choice!!
Wonderful western story about love, lawlessness and justice.
I love R.O.Land's Stories of the old west. He weaves adventure, romance and Texas justice into his stories. His books entice his readers to come back for more.
You seem pretty well informed about how things were in the days you write about; that I wonder sometimes, if you might not be two hundred years old. Or, you might be a Ghost with a talent for writing such colorful stories. Love 'm...
