Former covert ops agent Tom Sexton risks it all one last time to take down the terrorist who wants him dead in the final installment of the Agent Series. Hunted for more than twenty years by a mysterious terrorist known as the Benefactor, former Navy Seabee Tom Sexton is done running. Working with his girlfriend, Stella, for a private-sector spec ops team, Tom has a plan to eliminate the elusive stranger who murdered his family. But Tom didn’t just emerge from deep cover. He might have been lured. A former colleague gone rogue has warned Tom of a shadow agent hiding in plain sight. If Tom trusts the intel, that means he can’t trust anyone else. Over the next seventy-two hours, Tom will be fighting for his life―and Stella’s―and to expose the traitor. And he may be walking into more than one trap. It’s a collision course with a truth he never saw coming. One that may require a sacrifice he’s not willing to make.
DANIEL JUDSON, a Shamus Award winner and a four-time finalist, is the author of five previous novels, most recently The Violet Hour. He attended Southampton College, and his time in the Hamptons (particularly the parts that don’t make the society pages) was the inspiration for the setting and characters in Voyeur. He now lives in Connecticut.
This was an e-book that I received through a Goodreads Giveaway and what a book it was! I believe it would have been best to read the first two books in the series first to better understand the back story, but it was certainly a good read as a standalone novel.
This book is extremely intense. It is full of suspense and action, and there is character development as well. There are many twists and turns in the book. It is extremely well written and is not your standard thriller. If you like books that deal with someone living a covert life, then I recommend this book. Who can be trusted? Who are your real friends?
A guy working for a private sector special ops group is contacted by an old friend, who might or might not be a friend any more. This friend is on the run, but sends some info. There's assassins, counter-assassins, and people running around not knowing what is going on most of the time. In that way, it may be a little TOO realistic.
I stumbled upon this author by accident but was hooked immediately, since it's not your typical hero and story. The suspense is there and it's well written however I stongly recommend that you read them in order since you will get more out of the story and persons involved background. Thank you #Netgalley and #ThomasandMercer for giving me this opportunity to read Judsons #TheShadowAgent
These might not be for everyone, but I really enjoy all the strong females. Maybe too much detail regarding guns but overall I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Nice conclusion to the series. I will admit, I felt a little bit like I was at a tennis match..."He's the shadow agent, no...HE'S the shadow agent" Nope, wrong again..it's really him.. (won't name names because part of the surprise is wading through all of the mess to find out who is REALLY the shadow agent.)
There were some moments when it did pull at the edge's of believability - I mean, it is kind of a no brainer that we suspend reality a bit when reading this genre but as long as everything tends to hold together reasonably well, it still is somewhat believable and entertaining. When it pulls at the well defined limits that we all have - it becomes a bit harder to suspend those feelings. One thing that bothered me was that everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE is constantly saying that Tom is dangerous and a direct threat to so many people when his behavior does not support that in the slightest. He was a SeaBee not Spec Ops and then he became a loner for five years. Then, he pulls one job - and then goes back to his life for 2 years. Why, or should I say how, does this make him the Big Bad? Other than that - I really liked the relationships that developed with all of the secondary characters. It did get to be a bit much that all these people supposedly wanted him dead, yet he was with most of these people by himself, sometimes unarmed quite a bit and there were many, many times that this could have been accomplished. But, just a thought....
I started this book then got bored and read 2 other books then came back to this one. I should have stuck with it a little longer because it did get a whole lot better. Before all the killing was done it was a constant as to who the bad guy really was: Raveis, the Colonel or Carrington. One minute they seemed innocent then they all seemed guilty.
There were a lot of characters in this story and unfortunately a couple of them died that shouldn't have. Overall, it turned out to be a really good book.
No romance and the F-bomb was used 12 times.
As for the narrator: Pete Simonelli (AKA Sebastian York) did a much better job on this time with the women's voices. They were a little more feminine. BUT he just can't seem to put any feelings in his reading, no whispering, no yelling, no anger, no nothing. For someone with such a wonderful reading voice you'd think he'd try a little harder.
The third book in The Agent Series is well worth reading. Former Seabee Tom Sexton, whose covert life was introduced in the first two book of this series, wants out of the life, but he needs to deal with the person who murdered his family. Along with girlfriend Stella he’s on a short deadline to find the rogue/shadow agent who has lured him out of hiding. So while his search continues, he must also be looking over his shoulder trusting no one. I received an advanced digital copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this series. The Shadow Agent was as good as, if not better than Books 1 and 2. It includes interesting characters and lots of action, plus a good plot. There is a lot of violence, so if a reader has a problem with dead bodies piling up along the way, this might not be the book for you!
Tom and Stella cannot totally rely on anyone but themselves, and giving their trust to the wrong people could get them killed. Knowing who to trust kept me guessing up until the very end.
Tom Sexton has to come out of hiding. Stella is coming too and going into training. The Benefactor has put a hit out on him. Things have changed and those he thought he could trust are not all on the same side now. The story takes us on the road with Tom to find out who can be trusted and who needs to be eliminated. How Tom gets there is not easy. Trying to keep his friends safe is not easy either but with their help he can get the job done.
Fast moving action and thrills. A great story with its own twists. A great way to finish a fantastic trilogy. It's sad to see it end, maybe it's not the end. For now I will re-read the series and then get to work on long neglected projects around my house. This was truly a great book and fantastic series.
Daniel Judson is either a ballistic expert or the king of researchers! The detail about weapons and their individual traits woven into this volume is really something. Combine with this a very detailed and complex series of events that almost require a score card to follow, results in a heavy read for me.
First two books in this series were paced and plotted well. Book 3 is long, juggling too many characters and plot twists. Ironically having just re-watched the last season of Burn Notice, there were similarities: triple agents, triple crosses, unrealistic escapes. Hoping for better if series continues.
There were times my head was spinning trying to keep up with all the 'he said, and he did'. It finally wrapped up in a tidy package. As I said about the first book, I was completely surprised at myself that I really got into this series. I will probably read more books like this series.
Interesting story and good series of books. The characters are both interesting and likable. Great secondary characters and believable bad guys. I would recommend reading all 3 books in order to grasp the entire series of events.
I got this as a e book from net galley. I enjoyed reading it. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It is my first book read by this author. I hope to read more books by this author.
The third book in the agent series, it doesn't disappoint. In the the same style as the previous two books, it concludes the series, but keeps one on the edge of her seat to the very end.
OMG!! Wow!! This book was full of suspense and definitely a page turner! From chapter to chapter you are wondering who to trust and what team of characters to root for. Thank you Goodreads for this book, such a great giveaway!
Daniel Judson has a terrific, expansive knowledge of artillery and weaponry. It's overwhelming. I betcha anything he supports the Second Amendment! Read this book....AFTER reading the 1st two.
Like his two other “Agent” books, he uses the threat of rape to add unneeded threat and motivation to the main protagonist. It wasn’t necessary and felt weak. He only used it against a woman who was entirely capable of returning force.
All is going well until Tom get on a defective motorcycle(Gear shifter is on the left side not the right!!) and still manages to drive it!. Very exciting and enjoyable series. Unable to put down, great listening.
Good book. Wraps up the three books nicely. Couldn’t stop reading this. Only issue with the books was the detailed info on all the guns used. I started skimming those parts.
Difficult to feel the urgency and timing for the story. Perhaps reading the first two would have helped. Entertaining action sequences, informative weaponry info, Kevlar vest durability. Enjoyable.
Tom Sexton and Stella are again in danger from The Benefactor, but who can they trust to help them survive. Good story, that has Tom again trying to stay ahead, find the mole and get his and Stella's freedom.
3.5 stars. Good ending but it took some frustration to get there. The author is well versed on firearm tactical situations doing brass checks and tactical reloads correctly.
