Awe Inspiring! It made me laugh out loud and cry. It's socially relevant for humanity everywhere! This is the first sequel out of the literal hundreds (as I average 10 books a week) that I have read that has far surpassed an excellent first book!

Joan is still reeling from the events of Cirque night that she unwittingly was a part of. She and her allies are hiding out, making a new base and home, in the tunnels beneath the streets of Seattle. They are unsure if above ground will ever be safe for them again.

With their two spies in the enemy camp and a hope to align themselves with the peaceful Throwback revolutionaries, they attemp to rebuild a data base and regain their strength, making plans to continue their fight for equal rights.

Joan lives in a world of cripling and brutal predudice, where the division is not one of race, religion, nationality or even sex. It is genetics, evolved or cloned. One doesn't know until they are tested at 18. Joan was raised evoled, but is the clone of Joan of Arc. The story of her upbringing however is much more complex and is covered in Joan the Made.

Cloned, or Throwbacks, have NO rights. Her dream growing up is to become a doctor. Her assinged purpose is to act out dramas depicting Joan of Arc. No rights, no choices.

There is a growing rebellion in the Throwback community one side peaceful protesters. The others portrayed themselves to Joan and the other first year students at Seattle Secondary, Joan's acting school, to be action based but non-violent. Her violent rude awakening came on Cirque Night with mass killings of evolved across the city. Several students fled with Joan, others were on board all along.

Can Joan now find new allies and move on? Can she again rally the Throwbacks behind her? Will there still be a chance to achieve equal rights? Must she make a deal with the a new devil to get there?

Kristen Pham has given us a place so richly defined that you will walk the streets. Characters so thoroughly developed that you will sigh their sighs and cry their tears. The story is filled with enduring friendship, love beyond death, intrigue, betrayal and surprise. It is so riveting you will want to swallow it whole!

What an excellent series this is, I was completely blown away by the first book but I am still reeling after finishing this second book which is just as amazing. The characters are so strong and show such resilience in the face of so much horror and death! Joan is an incredible leader and it is sad that some of her well-meant decisions turn out so badly and that her own group of rebels lose faith in her! She deserves so much better as she has only the safety and wellbeing of all humans, evolved as well as throwbacks at heart. However I do think that she needs to lose her naiveté, she has to realise that not all evolved are good and kind and she cannot keep on trusting people like Lexi White who is pure evil incarnate!! This was a brutal book and some losses even we readers find difficult to cope with! So much has been lost, so can the rebels gain back their momentum to finish the fight they started or is it too late for change now? Will the throwbacks and evolved ever live lives of equality and dignity working side by side for the good of everyone? Dying now to know these answers hopefully in Book 3 of this amazing series! Demands to be read in one sitting as it is so totally riveting.

This book is even better than the first. Joan and her friends are fighting their battle to achieve equal rights for Throwbacks, but they have complications and setbacks everywhere they turn. I can't wait to read the conclusion to this amazing story!

In book one, our heroine discovered she was a clone, the lowest wrung on the social ladder. Now she fights for equality.

This is book two in the series and, while it can be read on its own, I highly recommend you read them in order to get the setting background.

This book continues essentially where the first left off and continues to build the world. And even better to me, it also builds the characters as they grow and mature through the book. The action is awesome, with some intrigue and well done social commentary. A prime example of science fiction at its best.

Highly recommended.

Another great instalment in the Throwbacks series.

Pham has ramped it up for this volume. It’s more intense, chockas of twists, turns and double-twists. Action bursts from nearly every page, with the stakes deftly ramped up to the fantastic climax at the end.

Expect love triangles. Expect surprises. Expect to feel the disappointment of Joan and her team as politics plays in every quarter too. Joan’s weaknesses reveal themselves too, surprising the relaxed reader as much as the heroine. But I won’t say more than that. Spoilers, you know.

I loved this book, and I can hardly wait for the next in the series!

They had unwittingly started the blood where that was happening and now they are the ones who need to stop it. Can they stop it getting any worse than it is now? How will they do it? See if they can
