Dirk Pitt meets Jason Bourne in the award-winning action-adventure novel, The Bermuda Connection by Robert Rapoza. For fans of The Ruins, this sequel will not disappoint! Ripe with action, exotic locations, and tough, die-hard characters, this book will take you on a thrilling ride, from page one all the way to the end. As a fan of supernatural and sci-fi genres, I detected delightful hints of The X-Files and Independence Day, rendering me unable to put this book down. I could tell that the author had studied his subject before writing, which allowed me to enjoy the story further. With one beautifully crafted action scene after the next, this book does not give readers time to feel bored - or sleepy! I don't suggest starting this novel at bedtime. This multi-award winning novel is rich in ancient history and mystical languages, filled with military paraphernalia and fascinating locations; this story has something compelling for everyone. I would highly recommend this book to fans of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park series, Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt novels, and Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne series.
I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest review from the publisher Ravenswood Publishing.
The Bermuda Connection is the second book in the Nick Randall series and is also, the second book I have read from this author. I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was really excited to be able to read and review the second one as well. In this book we are still following Nick Randall as he tries to solve mysteries, find artifacts, and uncover the truth…and attempt to remain alive along with some friends and his family. Just like the first book in this series The Bermuda Connection was super action packed with a fast moving plot full of government conspiracies, danger, and an overall vibe that reminded me somewhat of a Tomb Raider-ish plot except with extraterrestrial and historical content. I love government conspiracies and extraterrestrial theories so this book was right up my alley. It was a fun fast read that I rather enjoyed.
The story itself was told in alternating perspectives which I enjoyed overall, but I did feel like I didn’t get to know the characters super in depth like I wanted to but I did like the ones that we spend time with. I loved Nick and his two kids and their getting mixed up in this as a family. I really appreciated the fast pace of the plot and never felt like it lagged so that made me want to keep reading. I would definitely read another Nick Randall book.
If you are someone who loves action packed stories that incorporate historical or archeological elements (think Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider) definitely check this series out. Four stars!
The Bermuda Connection: The Nick Randall Series, Book 2 is an action and adventure thriller written by Robert Rapoza. The dreams had started shortly after his return from Peru, where he and his daughter, Sam, had discovered the lost city of Vilcabamba only to see its mysteries destroyed forever by a volcanic eruption. He kept on dreaming that he was a woman, alone in her apartment, whose nighttime sleep was interrupted by first a sense of something being in the room with her; then that sense growing into a shadow in the corner of her room and, inevitably, morphing horribly into an alien creature that seemed to examine her with chilling and dispassionate interest. Nick’s friend, Peter, noticed that his friend was obviously sleeping poorly and made a point of calling Nick’s son to alert him to the fact, but when John went to visit his dad, he found the front door ajar and a pervading sense of danger in the empty house. When he answered his phone, John heard Nick urgently telling him to get out of the house. Nick had made a powerful enemy during his Peruvian expedition; one who would stop at nothing for revenge.
Robert Rapoza’s action and adventure thriller, The Bermuda Connection, is a fast-paced and enthralling novel that’s guaranteed to keep adrenaline junkies happily reading on till the very end. While it’s the second book in his Nick Randall Series, Rapoza gives the new reader enough background information to enjoy this book on its own. That said, the author made it pretty much impossible for me to resist planning on going back and reading the first book in the series, The Ruins: A Nick Randall Novel. Rapoza’s plot is well-crafted and plausible, and his characters are credible and finely honed, especially archaeologist Nick Randall and the enigmatic Australian giant, Michael Thompson. I loved the blend of archaeology, adventure and travel that makes this book stand out from so many thrillers and had a grand time reading it. The Bermuda Connection: The Nick Randall Series, Book 2 is most highly recommended.
The Bermuda Connection: A Nick Randall Novel by Robert Rapoza is the second entry in a compelling, action-packed series that also reads as a standalone novel. A mysterious woman on an island, a drug that could erase traumatic memories, and assassins on the loose are just a few of the elements that are melded together to drive this riveting tale. The story starts with a creepy moment captured in vivid detail, and it moves quickly into action that will enthrall the reader. Nick Randall has just returned from a trip to the jungles of Peru, searching for the lost city of Vilcabamba, attracted by the odd physical aspects of a tribe and its otherworldly inhabitants. He is plagued by terrible nightmares and he is determined to find out why he has such terrible dreams and why always of the same woman. Meanwhile, Randall’s son, John, has just made a revolutionary discovery in science, creating a drug that could erase traumatic memories. But it has a side effect they never noticed in non-humans: it makes victims susceptible to suggestion and easy to manipulate. The disappearance of his research partner sets John on a search fraught with danger and enemies seeking to get ahead of him. But what does this have to do with a mysterious woman on the island of Bermuda?
Robert Rapoza melds elements of sci-fi and mystery to create a work of great entertainment for readers. What caught my attention from the very beginning was the excellence of the prose and how the author communicates the sense of mystery through the writing, crafting an atmosphere that is as intriguing as it is sinister. The characters are real and multi-dimensional and it is interesting how they evolve through the conflict and the international setting across Peru to New Mexico to Tibet to Antarctica and Bermuda. The conflict escalates with a powerful threat from the Chinese military and an irrational industrialist. The suspense in The Bermuda Connection grows stronger with a riddle to solve while the clock is ticking. Robert Rapoza is a great storyteller, making the novel balanced, gripping, and utterly thrilling.
I mostly enjoyed the story. Having not read the first I didn't have the background for a few "historical" references. I will correct that shortcoming. The only thing holding me back on a higher rating was the notion I perceived was the overcrowded list of antagonists presented. The conversations at times felt a little cliched, but didn't detract from what has happening. Overall, glad I read it. Have the first Nick Randall book to fill in that history O missed.
Down the rabbit hole with archeology, science, and black ops agencies. Take a thrill ride with Dr. Nick Randall on a convoluted journey through history, assassins, continents, psychic links, military black ops, and the kind of suspense that keeps you reading long after lights out. You certainly won't regret it!
This book is action-filled right from the start and is hard to put down. Interesting story-line and characters; I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Bermuda Connection and look forward to reading the sequel!
Great book! Plenty of non-stop action, thrills and chills. New author for me. I missed the first book in the series, but I'm not missing the third! I'm starting on it now!
Even if a bit far fetched, this book has an interesting story, great characters, And easy read for all. Hopefully following books keep us entertained as well.
I received this book as a gift in return for an honest review. I loved the first book and knew this one wouldn't disappoint. I started the book and couldn't put it down. I've always believed in the alien theories and enjoy books that gives another point of possibility they are amongst us. Randall seems to be one of the luckiest people on earth or has a guardian watching over him. From New Mexico to Tibet to Antarctica and Bermuda the action is non stop. Like another reader said he's a modern day Indiana Jones. Buckle your seat belts your in for one heck of a ride. Looking forward to the next book.
Complicated plot mixed with interesting characters. Fast moving with lots of action and unlikely escaped but entertaining light read. Will look for more of this series.
I enjoyed the plotline of this book but I had a lot of the same or similar issues with this one as I did in book 1:
1. Still too many characters. There were just so many people involved in this story that I have no idea who is who, who belongs to what group, what side they're on, etc. There are too many different groups of people who appear and disappear that it's really confusing to try and keep track of everyone.
2. Too much time. With the date, time and location at the top of almost every chapter, I found myself losing track of where the plot was when. It was almost like I was too conscious of what the date and time was that I completely lost the chain of events. By the time the book was done, I couldn't remember when certain events had happened and completely lost track of how much time had passed throughout the course of the book.
3. Same phrasing. The author talks about Nick's Army Ranger training A LOT. Having read this as a second book in the series, I felt like I was reading the exact same description over and over. Nick also says something about starting to feel his age and that's also something that popped up a lot in The Lost Tribe. The "someone is interested in your research but I won't say who" and "we're pulling your funding" topics came up a lot in this one as well. I felt like certain things were just cut and pasted into this book from the first book and it got really tedious to read after awhile.
4. Plot recycling. This book gave me a lot of similar vibes as The Lost Tribe. There was a lot of kidnapping, betrayals, side switching, etc. in The Bermuda Connection that seemed like a carbon copy of the first book. I'm all for it it ain't broke, don't fix it, but I'd like to see some originality and differing concepts between books in a series. For most of the book, I felt like I was reading The Lost Tribe again with some plot details changed. This one was also very action heavy without much in between to make it impactful.
5. Plot holes. The Bermuda Connection really didn't seem to have a whole lot to do with Bermuda. There were some scenes there but the vast majority of the action happened in other places around the globe. Traveling seemed to happen awfully quick between places too with little to no effect on the characters. There was a scene where Randall, Jamie and Hoffman were checking a dive site in Bermuda but they got intercepted before they could get there. I never saw anything about that particular dive site again so I'm not really sure what the importance there is
6. Character development. These characters fell flat for me again. Randall seems like a one-trick pony. He gets into danger, usually with a friend or family member, and immediately tried to sacrifice himself before trying anything else. I don't really know much significant information about any of the characters so i feel no real attachment to them. The interactions between the characters seemed really awkward and didn't seem to flow very well. The romance seemed forced, especially when those two particular characters didn't really spend significant time with each other throughout the book.
The concept of this book is interesting. I was engaged in it a bit more than the first book, even though certain characters sure seem not to stay dead very long, but it needs some refining.
The Bermuda Connection is the 2nd book in the Nick Randall archeological thriller series, and, like its predecessor, the pace never slows down! From chapter one through the last page, the pace is relentless! That doesn't even include the excellent writing backing it up. The characters, even new ones in this book, are well constructed, the plot has just the right direction, the dialogue is excellent and realistic. This is a book that can truly be recommended to any reader! 5/5 stars!
I like Indiana Jones type adventures but you have to keep at least a toe in the realm of reality to make the story believable. Throwing everything and the kitchen sink at a plot just doesn’t work. The author could also use a good editor to: keep h the names of characters straight, check basic info (there is no such thing as the “Mediterranean Ocean”) and just double check grammar.
Would have been better, but too many groups who are friends one day and enemies another. The author needs to slow the action a bit to keep the reader's attention.
It took me a while to get into the story—the earlier chapters were choppy, with too much rigid suspense tactics that can be a bit overbearing, and the big chase scene was too long and clichéd and sounded a bit contrived. But things finally started to make sense around Chapter 15, when brother and sister, Sam and John, meet up to talk about the mysterious things going on with their archeologist father.
The story takes you around the world on a hunt for answers to some mysterious events. The military is involved, and so are big corporations with big guns. Lots of capture-and-escape scenes. There are psychic connections and non-earthly beings—kind of a fun concept, if you’re into that sort of thing. The writing is not classic literature, so simply enjoy it for its fast-paced, action-packed, high-adrenaline read, nothing deeper.
