THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.
In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.
After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.
I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!
But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.
After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.
I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
Brady Hawk and Alex Duncan are starting off married life with a honeymoon cut short by their boss, former senator J.D. Blunt. Firestorm is gone and Blunt heads a new group, the Phoenix Foundation, with the same mission statement but a closer alliance with the CIA. Their first assignment starts out in Venice to steal intelligence from a Russian oligarch, becomes a search for the killer of a prominent politician’s son and quickly evolves into an international conspiracy and the unearthing of an organization more dangerous and wide-ranging than the recently destroyed Al Hasib.
Characters from previous hooks in this series, both friend and foe, make appearances that twist the plot into more positions than a yoga instructor on a caffeine high. The action is fast and unrelenting, jumping from Venice to Washington to New York to Cuba to Miami and back. It will leave you breathless until the very end. It seems the team’s new beginning will continue with a new enemy. The next few books should be very interesting and I can’t wait!
When you thought you retired the phone rings again!
Great read. Another day another book. Wonderful story line. Moving in a couple directions to keep you interested. With Alex and Brady married and on thief honeymoon they get the call from Blunt. The thought Firestone was abolished and he assured them it was and they would work off a branch of the CIA called Phoenix. So the team is looking at an assassination of a Senators''s son. Boils down to Alex getting help from her NSA friend and Hawk using the General to help untangle the mystery and they find an attempt to kill President Young is on the horizon. Great story.
There is no way to describe getting pulled into this authors 21 book story. Exhilarating to be able to read one book right after another and get deeply involved in these characters lives, lives and history and the police stories evolving around them. There are more following another character but I needed a break and are involved in some other stories before I follow the rest of the saga. Read these and enjoy. I read most in one day.
A United States senator contracts to have his son murdered because he knows his father's dirty secrets, ambitions. Now he has enlisted terrorists to have POTUS assassinated. Only Brady Hawk and his partner and wife, Alex stand in his way. Top notch fast paced thriller! Enjoyed immensely!
Firestorm has been disbanded and Hawk and Alex are enjoying downtime, after getting married. Called back by Blunt to spearhead a new team called Phoenix, they investigate the murder of a Senator's son. What they find is a conspiracy that again puts the president in danger and a race to stop another terrorist attack.
Another great Brady book. A US senator’s son is found dead, a Russian Ambassador is accused. A fast paced mystery as always. Impossible to stop reading. Received an ARC and reviewed because I love this author ‘s books.
I have read 14 books of Brady Hawk and I love them all. You read that something has happened to Brady and then he manages to get free to fight an other day. Great Hero!
When asked to look into the murder of a politician's son, Hawk and crew discover a lot more than any of them bargained for. With action, suspense, and complex situations, it's not a series to be missed. I would recommend this book, series, and author.
Love his books and his characters. Action begins on the first page, and continues to the last page! These are fast paced. So hang on for a great read!!
Very intriguing novel. Hatred, death and war are everywhere. Hawk once again takes most of the bad guys down... More to finish off.... once and for all.
