“I wish magic could blame it on someone else, but it can’t. I am the one that brings sorrow—I am the one that brings death.”
Mirella lives and breathes for her people—but her heart is broken. The man she loves is engaged to someone else, and his sense of duty is stronger than his affection for her.
When Mirella’s friend Cora receives notice that tziganes from her enclave might still be alive, Mirella and her friends decide to investigate. As they piece together the mystery of the wiped-out clan, Mirella begins experiencing strange visions and whispers, voices that twist and warp her mind.
Afraid that she’s going crazy, Mirella pushes it all deep down and focuses on the battle that waits on the horizon. With the help of her friends, Mirella brings all her power to the fight … but it might not be enough to prevent a tragedy.
An emotional and heart breaking addition to the The Fire Heart Chronicles, Sorrow Bringer is the third installment in the highly-anticipated new adult urban fantasy series by Juliana Haygert. Paranormal romance, exciting chases, and a strong heroine make for one breathtaking story!
While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. She resides in North Carolina and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

I received a copy of Sorrow Bringer as an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review: This is one of my favorite Series where an enclave of Gypsies called the Tziganes with special powers, and long life spans, are in a continuous war with groups of Alchemist's who gain power by capturing and taking the blood of the Tziganes for powering their spells, and chemistry powers, since they have no magic of their own.
Mirella is the Heart Maiden for this group, which means she sustains the health of the clan by finding the Special Life-Giving Heart Flower when and where they bloom.. This time they were careless and lied to gain permission to find missing Family Members of another Clan that had been attacked, and in doing so placed all in danger. It was a tense adventure filled with Fighting, Capture, Winning, Loosing, Heartbreak, Death, and in the end a revelation that brings Terror to the Heart Maiden. This book leaves you hanging by your fingers needing to find out how they will resolve the coming disaster, and hoping Juliana will let us know yesterday.
The title itself tells you exactly what you can expect from this book. Mirella's story continues with an expedition to Cora's enclave after receiving mysterious news. With high hopes of a reunion with Cora and Rye's tziganes family, Mirella and her friends head onto an adventure with twists and heart wrenching situations along the way that will test everyones limits. This book will keep you guessing, as well as shock you with new discoveries. When things could not get any worse for Mirella, fate has other plans. Tragic as this tale was it's still a very enjoyable read and would recommend it. Now the torture of awaiting the next book begins!
Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This is an outstanding continuation of the series. It grabs you by the short and curlies and doesn’t let go. I won’t describe how the story develops as others will do that. I will simply say that Mirella’s journey as the Heart Maiden has some staggering revelations and consequences. This affects her friends , her enemies and more importantly, herself . She is no longer the timid creature she once was.
An awesome book. Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong and intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Mirella is such an awesomely strong character who deals with whatever is thrown a her. This is the 3rd book in this great new series by Juliana Haygert. I can’t wait to read what happens next. Recommend to all
Great tragedy. Mirella is a fabulous character with many strengths and weaknesses. This story sees her through some well written sorrows. I look forward to learning what happens in her future.
3.5⭐️ I was a little disappointed in this one. It was basically just a filler with nothing to deal with the actual storyline except a few little snippets.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and can't wait for the next book. I can't put it down. Juliana is a wonderful writer who can weave a story that is so real you are right there in it.
I'm most certainly attached to all of the characters now. Usually I have an idea of how a story will most likely end but there are so many different possibilities right now and it's thrilling!!
First, a warning: Juliana Haygert’s Sorrow Bringer (The Fire Heart Chronicles Book 3) is as sad as advertised by its name. Mirella is back, with powers finally unlocked. Her sad life with it’s series of misfortunes continue in this tale centered around an expedition to her best friend Cora's tziganes enclave after indications that some may have survived its attack. Of course they’re waking right into a trap. Just one more thing to go wrong for Mirella in a book filled with staggering revelations and consequences. While Sorrow Bringer is no light tale it’s nevertheless a superbly written one that’s a totally worthwhile read. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Oh my gosh... what a read! I can't believe all that has happened in this story so far! This book gave me all the heart ache feels... i felt so much sadness and shock. I feel so bad for Mirella! I still can't get over it! I need to know what happens next! I highly recommend this series. Go and read it NOW! It is so addicting and will leave you anxious for the next book to come! Author Juliana Haygert is a great writer. This story of hers will make you become a Fan for sure!
Mirella, daughter, friend, Tzigane, Heart Maiden. The story continues on and the story is beautiful, heartbreaking and breathtaking! I can't wait for the next book!!!
Being the Heart Maiden hasn’t been working out all that well for Mirella. Alchemists and Revenants and the ‘dead’ Heart Maiden trying to kill her. Being ‘untouchable’ and told she can never be in a relationship, or have a family. Being lied to by one guy after another; each one hurting more. And now, suffering pain and hallucinations. When Cora receives a letter that her family is still alive, Mirella convinces the council to allow the group to head out on a mission to discover the truth. It’s a trap that leads to tragedy, and despite trying to save them with her powerful magic, Mirella is the one to shoulder the blame.
Well, author, you found a way to make Mirella sympathetic to me. Make everyone else horrible. Seriously, what is wrong with this enclave of tziganes? Isolation and condemnation are forms of torture. They have no idea what HONOR truly is. Heart Maiden or not, I would not stay with this enclave. Grab Felix and go. Ask Ramon if he wants to go. Surely other enclaves would welcome the Heart Maiden. Mirella is beautiful, smart, loyal, and sweet, and she’s trying to master her magic. She whines too much but she’s getting better. What are their excuses? Artan isn’t worthy of discussion. Cora shouldn’t have any issue with Mirella; the mission was on her behalf. Rye followed Cora. Theron is a big disappointment and Ellie should be ashamed of herself. She was barely tolerable from the beginning and now should be back in the human world. She turned her back on Mirella once before and nearly got them both killed under the influence of Alchemists and Mirella never even got mad. Now because Mirella saved all but one of them, they are all mad at her. Again, they are unworthy of having the Heart Maiden. Mirella, stop taking blame that is not yours and leave them to their own devices. She’s lost her freedom, her love, and her companions; she’s in danger of losing her sanity and possibly her life for an enclave that has turned its back on her. I hope the next book is Mirella at her new Florida enclave. I am fully invested now.
When Cora receives an encoded message that gives her hope her family is alive, Mirella wants to support her friend and convinces the others plus the council to go after the trail. But some of them suspect a trap, and there is never enough caution. The journey is dangerous, tragic, full of hope and pain and blame, and Mirella does not know what is worse for her - the self-contempt, the cold shoulder from her closest ones, the never-ending lies, or the secrets that are slowly becoming unraveled. The story was fast and adventurous, and I really liked Ramone in this one, coming out of his shelf and interacting more. I am also curious more about the visions and what Mirella's powers can bring.
***A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion***
This title is aptly named to express Mirella's ability in this book to basically be the stories' Debbie Downer! Geez, Mirella has it really rough this time. I'm so very disappointed in Mirella's friends this time. It's almost as if Mirella has become a vile plague and they can't decide whether to toss her out and away from them. Or lock her up before something bad happens.
Wow! Mirella can’t make a good decision to save her life. Everyone tells her it is a trap, and she chooses to lie to the council to get her way. I can see wanting to help Cora, Rye and Nico but she did it against all advice. In the end it costs others their lives and then she is upset because everyone is angry at her. We shall see what she does next, maybe she can redeem herself in some way. The story was great, I just hope Mirella grows up a bit and becomes more rational in her decisions. Lets see what happens.
Wow!! Is Mirella going to catch a break at some point? Poor girl...Her whole life ihas been seriies of untruths and lies....Hope she can get some peace soon...
Mirella is back once again and literally could not catch a break if her life depended on it. She’s trying so hard to be the Heart Maiden everybody wants her to be and putting everything on the line to help her friends.
Cora gets a message that her family is still alive after the destruction of her enclave 3 years ago. She is desperate to find out the truth even though everybody else thinks it’s a trap. She asks Mirella for her help and Mirella being Mirella doesn’t hesitate to help her.
The mission starts of with a little deception and unexpected danger lurks throughout their journey. Which is the worse time for Mirella to develop mysterious visions that don’t make sense to her. Still she pushes on ahead to do whatever she can for her friends. Unfortunately as things typically are with her nothing works out right and this time there are fatal consequences.
I like Mirella I think she is treated unfairly by everyone around her. The council claims to care and value her but they do nothing useful and don’t care about her wellbeing at all. Her mother... I HATE her mother. If I thought she might finally stop with all the pointless secrets and lies then I would have be disappointed. And this new revelation is a pretty big one. I will never understand what motivates her or why she is the way she is. Guess I’m hoping there is a reason for it all but not holding my breath for it.
My biggest pet peeves are secrets/lies and taking on unnecessary and undeserved guilt. As of now I hate all of her friends, they are terrible people. Mirella takes the blame for everything that happens when none of it was her fault. Cora was the one to beg for this to happen... even with the glaringly obvious extenuating circumstances revealed in the end. Mirella only lied to the council to help her friends. They all knew this going into the mission so they are all to blame they knew what it was really about. Nobody held a gun to their heads nobody voiced objections or said maybe we should just go home. Yes Artan did insist they shouldn’t go but he did nothing to stop it. They all knew it was more than likely a trap the signs were glaringly obvious and yet they proceeded. So how about some personal responsibility? Nope everybody blames Mirella which annoys me to no end and even if she forgives them and even though she accepts that they feel the need to blame someone... I would never forgive them. But that’s just me.
I thought I couldn’t dislike anyone more that Risa the liar mother and well Darcy is highly unpleasant for no reason at all but... I really sincerely do not like Ellie. From the start I was never fond of her and now when she’s constantly inserting herself into things that don’t concern her I just can’t stand her. She shouldn’t have been allowed to go on any mission ever because she can’t defend herself AT ALL. Why is she there? She has no purpose she’s just taking up space. I also don’t see what she had to be mad about in the end. Mirella did nothing to her and is often trying to protect that useless annoying girl.
Though 90% of the characters in this book made me want to reach in and choke them... it doesn’t really take away from the story as they are just flawed stupid people who just really annoyed me and go on about honor and loyalty when they have none when it counts. And maybe I’m bias because I live Mirella. No she’s no perfect and yes she makes mistakes but she keeps trying and does push off the blame to others. I don’t like that she shouldered all the blame and drowned herself in guilt over things that weren’t her fault. For the tziganes to claim to cherish their Heart Maiden they all pretty much suck at it.
Oh and I won’t speak of Artan... Theron also made my list of people I really can’t stand. If only Risa, Theron, Artan and Ellie just fell off a cliff... I can dream can’t I?
The future for Mirella has always been an uncertain thing. Now it’s more uncertain than ever and she feels alone and it’s pretty heartbreaking. I admire her for continuing to stick it out and continuing to try and for trying to do the right things even when they end up wrong... if I was her I would just run away and never look back. She is the most loyal and honorable one in the enclave.
I’m excited to see what happens next and ever hopeful that things might just turn around for her? I know it can’t all be sunshine and rainbows but every book so far has only come with increasingly unhappy endings. The first one she loses her freedom, second she loses her love and her grandmother and now we are here where she loses her friends and might be losing her sanity as well.
Mirella deserves at least one good thing to happen to her... fingers crossed that it will happen soon.
I was happy to ride this ride with Mirella and crew. I did suspect the ride wasn't going to be an easy one and, boy, was I right! This series has an amazing world view and a fantastic, imaginative story. I love the legends and lore looped into a new view. Make sure to read and 3.5 novella before this book for extra insights into the characters we learn so much about in this book.
Poor Mirella! As Mirella's story continues we uncover more lies, deceit and unnerving fact about her fate. There is so much going on all at once in this book. It definitely makes the suspense levels higher. I feel for Mirella who just can't seem to catch a break. I'm very much enthralled in the story and can't wait to read what Juliana throws at us next!
