Ty Wilcox doesn’t really believe in superheroes. Then one is murdered right in front of him.Ty is just a normal guy trying to do his best. He’s single, stuck in a dead-end job with the most hateful boss in the universe, and struggling under a mountain of debt. When he witnesses an impossible battle between two superpowered people, every instinct he has tells him to run. Instead, he becomes the owner of a device that can change his life in ways he can barely imagine. All he has to do is survive for long enough to learn how to use it.Warning and minor “Enhancer” is an 18+ book intended for mature readers. It includes light gamelit elements, occasional bad language, and is set in a cyberpunk alternate future. Within its pages you will find attempted murders, actual murder, home invasions, kidnapping, fights, betrayals, destruction of property, random deaths that can be considered self-defense, a really malevolent boss who treats Ty very badly, and a monstrous bad guy who treats him even worse. Most importantly, you will find gorgeous superheroes and beastkin beauties who are comfortable with unconventional, polyamorous, harem relationships, and there are waffles on offer as well. Not recommended for those who don't enjoy a good time.

Not bad. While the story wasn't very original it was still interesting and I thought it was well done. Ty works at a dead end job in a world where enhancements are everywhere, except he cant afford any of them. There are also rumors that there are superheroes in the world. On his way home from work, he stumbles across a fight between 2 such super powered individuals. He ends up getting a device that turns him into one of those people with powers. Ty then finds himself in a relationship with 2 women with super powers as well. Apparently the devise that has given him powers also makes it so that the people wearing those devices are very attracted to each other. The relationship was pretty PG-13. There was a lot of build up, and then it kind of skipped over the actual sex, and ended with him entwined with the 2 women a couple of hours later. I did feel a connection between the 3 of them though and while the relationship was sudden it did not feel forced (especially since the author gave a explanation for the attraction in the beginning.) The bad guy was one tough son-o-bitch, but I was left unsatisfied with the ending

Still, it was pretty interesting and I plan on adding the next book to my to-read list.

It's ok.
He invented awesome crazy stuff in couple days, I don't get why he didn't just hole up for a while and prepare. But no, he had to go looking for trouble almost immediately. Imagine what he could have done in week or month, not to mention he had a lot of material to go through. And they have information expert so she could have used that time to dig stuff up too.
Just seemed kind of stupid idea to go spring trap when you could wait, gather information and get stronger, I mean he only had powers for couple days. There didn't really seem to be much pressure for him to act.
It was just really odd and stupid route to take with their strengths and situation. They willingly gave an enemy the advantage and didn't use their strengths.

Took me a while to start, but glad I did

Another superhero harem series based around a loser who suddenly gains power. A common setup, but we'll written and with interesting characters. I like the tech aspects of his powers. I'm looking forward to reading book two.

Ty Wyatt is a nobody working a dead-end job who stumbles into possession of a mystery bracelet after watching two supers battle. The bracelet, which comes from the now dead hero, provides the wearer with superpowers—different powers for each recipient. The villain wants the bracelet which provides the conflict in the story.

Ty’s super skill is the ability to build and improve technology. He quickly becomes involved with a superheroine and another super individual and together they work to understand Ty’s new power and stop the bad guy.

There’s nothing original or particularly intense about this story. At times the super-powers-providing bracelet also appears to be an excuse not to develop a genuine relationship between the characters—as the bracelets make super heroes be sexually attracted to each other. But despite the two-dimensionality the story is fun and moves pretty quickly. My favorite character was actually Ty’s video-game-playing roommate who unfortunately drops out of the story fairly quickly (but maybe will reappear in later books). And there is good room for further development. Ty’s technological abilities make him able to reproduce the powers-giving bracelets so there is no reason that the number of superheroes can’t expand rapidly in future volumes.

I really wanted to like this book, but it fell flat.

This book is very similar to a series that I read before called American Dragon and I really like that series. The beginning of this had potential just like American Dragon. We had a loser MC down on his luck and one night changed everything. Yes, it's generic but hey who doesn't like a good weakest to strongest story. Where this story differs from other series and in my opinion derailed the book is the main character Ty. I can get being freaked out by everything that is happening to you, unwilling to accept the situation but if you are going to write a story like this, make the story longer. This book is a very short book. This story plot moves so quick, you blink and you miss it.

In my opinion the way the author wrote his MC conflicts with the pace of the story. Through the entire book Ty really doesn't make an impact on the story. It felt if we remove him from the story and focused on Tempest, the story could have been a bit more interesting. The entire book, Ty has a inner war about whether we wants to be a superhero and only ever really commits because a situation that happens near the end. Also the character personality sucks. His BETA side is so annoying to listen to. Ty's character doesn't go through any sort of meaningful development. In the beginning of the story he was a loser with no confidence and at the end it feels like he is still a loser with no confidence. Writing a story where the main character (AND THE ONLY CHARACTER WE GET TO SEE THROUGH THE EYES OF) is taking a backseat to other characters in the story is boring. Who wants to read a story about only the tech guy? There is a reason why stories like James Bond doesn't only focus on Q, its boring. Only two fight scenes in this book and the last one was kinda anti-climatic. COME ON NOW, this is just sad. Imagine reading a story of being a background character un-Ironically.........

The relationships in this books also 'icks' me out. Once again, this is a fast pace story, writing sexual tension in a fast paced story needs to be handled with care, not just somehow through the magic of author boner the two characters fucks because magic. It weirded me out. This same thing happens in American dragon, but in that story we get somewhat of an explanation and we get to see that its a feature that all dragon kind has. In this story we don't get that so it just felt forced and rushed.

Overall my enjoyment of this book was very low. I felt if we had a little bit of a longer story, to really make us experience some sort of development of the MC it would have been a way more enjoyable read.

P.S
The fact that Ty could only think about that he had to go to a work that he didn't like and was terrible, is some sort of sickness. Does Ty have some sort of Stockholm syndrome for his job? IDK

Good except keeps stupidity for annoying toad sake it seems

He by time alone you know he's an enhancer, he can do awesome things with tech, yet he still keeps his literally crappy job through the entire book when he could use his tech skills to make himself rich easily, to say nothing of making the pittance he makes at that job or the fact that the bad guys know he works there. Utterly stupid, i'm guessing ir to keep the toad in the story for the annoyance and strife

A bit Unexpected

Was good in a way that I hadn’t expected. Some minor stupidity that I felt was annoying but couldn’t say was unrealistic. Enjoyed the story and am waiting for the followup.

Enhancer

Audiobook review

This is a fun super-hero not quite rpg read. This is a PG-13 book intended for an 18+ audience due to language and mild sexual content.

Poor Ty. He’s just a normal dude trying to get by at his crap dead-end job. His boss is a massive jerk who literally makes him clean crap when she sees anyone show a single interest in Ty. When he happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time he is witness to the murder of a hero. Ty accidentally sort of removes and puts on the hero’s wrist cuff, which happens to be a conduit of enhanced superpowers. It also has a crazy side-effect of cuff-wearers being strangely attracted or repulsed to each other. He also can’t seem to take it off.

Of course, before Ty can run away from the scene of the crime he is approached by a smoking hot woman who invites him to join her in the pursuit to rid the world of villains. He’s very hesitant to any sort of lifestyle change until a bunch of goons bust his apartment to smithereens.

The cuff doesn’t bestow powers, it simply enhances individual skills that certain types of people already have. Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and the normal RPG skills top the enhancable list. As one who more than dabbles in electronics, Ty’s top skill is Tech. His previously above average tech skills are enhanced beyond what Ty could ever have imagined. With the help of his two beauties, he recreated the technological masterpiece that has created the supers in order to take the villain down.

Like I said, this was a fun light read. Due to some decent explaining up front about the uncontrollable attraction cuff wearing supers have toward each other, the super-quick lust is believable. In fact, I thought Ty protested too much before giving in. This does not contain what I would call gratuitous sex scenes. There is some action leading up to sex, and some heated foreplay, but the actual act is skipped over in a way that made sure it was more of a lusty adventure book than a romance novel. There’s lots of action and humor, as well as plenty of good, cheesy eye rolling moments.

I have books 2 & 3 in this series already, and plan to listen to them in the future.

I was given this audiobook at my request in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I received an audible code of this book via Audiobookboom for an honest review. What follows is my opinion and mine alone. I was not compensated for this review.

I should begin by saying that I've always wanted to try a Litrpg/Gamelit style book. If you don't know what a Litrpg or Gamelit book is, it is basically a book that has the similar styles or schematics as an rpg or game system. In the case of Enhancer, a lot of the rpg style is seen in the way the main characters' stats are shown in the electronic device that literally enhanced him from a typical human to something more.

The story follows a nerd everyman type of character. There doesn't seem to be anything too special about Ty Wilcox and he basically lives his life to the least. What I mean by that is, he doesn't really try to change his situation in life. He seems pretty stuck and, though not content at being stuck, doesn't seem to do anything to get out of it or seems to decide to get out of it.

That is until he witnesses two superpowered humans fight and one dies at his feet.

The story is a pretty basic concept of an everyman being thrust into a predicament that he may have wanted to stay away from. However, there was enough about this world that Kane made this hero journey into something interesting. There was humor and the story itself did grab me. I loved the geek factor and references from anime that I've been a fan of myself.

I'll admit that I was hesitant about the polyamorous twist in the book, but was surprised that the more adult scenes weren't a focus and didn't become graphic. Not that graphic would have necessarily bothered me, but I did like that the story itself was more important and that the relationships between the characters seemed to enhance (pun intended) the story.

In all, it wasn't a bad story. It was a good beginning to a world that I wouldn't mind revisiting. I would recommend this for the geek at heart, anime fan, and the person who likes the idea of electronics making the superhero.

Final rating: 3/5

First, I have to start off by stating that I got this book free of charge in exchange for a review, but as I always state, this does not in any way impact my review. My reviews are always honest and my own.

I could see a lot of nuggets of high potential in the idea behind this book but unfortunately, the author ultimately fails to cultivate them.

Single handled the biggest problem with the book is the entire first half of the book is nothing but chapter after chapter after chapter of the main character angsting over how bad he has it and how much his life sucks and how everything is awful even when amazing things start happening to him. I mean, I understand that it's meant to be a bit of a juvenile high schooler fantasy and that's ok, but this takes it way over the top and makes it extreme cringe material.

Traveling a wee bit into the future, we’ll be splicing genes in order to enhance and modify humans. This is the basis of this series. I must say the first half of this opening volume was quite frustrating. The main character, Ty Wilcox was a complete moron. Just as his friend Brad had professed, it is inconceivable that Ty would pass up the opportunity of a lifetime to continue cleaning toilets. After meeting Tempest, his over-zealous infatuation got old quick. Thank goodness his character calmed down a bit as the story moved on. “Light gamelit elements” is putting it mildly. Any game elements are only used as an example reference. “Enhancer” is another erotic fantasy adventure. It’s not bad by any means but I enjoy the LitRPG adventures more. Three.point.five for an interesting start. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is a great superhero story. Already starting book 2! Can’t wait for Angie the Hut to get taken down more than a few notches! We’ve all had bosses like that and they make life miserable.
Wondering when the women will tell him they are filthy rich and that he doesn’t have to work any more. I mean I’m sure that is coming!
Waiting for Bane to get what’s coming to him as well.
And damn you Wyatt Kane I want some waffles!
Chris Graves did an amazing job narrating, like really amazing!

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Not great, not bad

I think I was expecting more cyberpunk and less superhero based on the description. Very light on the cyberpunk.

Some of the super on super dialogue was uber cliche.

I enjoyed some of the minor plot points, like the cat and roommate, almost more than the primary plot. I also felt the reasoning for the MC's attraction was a bit too convenient.

As the title stated, it wasn't bad, but I've read better and had different expectations.

Found style and grammatical errors on 19 pages out of 187...
At times, the book feels like it's written by a zealous teenager trying to pile all his wet dreams on paper, and doing a so-so job of it. I could write this book myself in a few weeks and make a better job of it... Given the amount of cliches stuffed into it.
However, the plot, as derivative as it is, flows. And some of the ideas are classic sci-fi. The characters are cookie cutter standard, as is the plot line. But I guess that's what you get for 3-4 dollar book.

Another great start

I'm enjoying the direction this series is taking. This is a great start to the series. The book progresses well. Not too fast so far. The interaction between the main characters is realistic and well thought out. Very interested in where the next book takes us. Depending upon the speed of release, I would say the book progresses well. So long as there isn't too much down time between books.

Average

I couldn't understand Th and his thought processes. Offered a job other than scrubbing toilets, he never once asked if it paid nor what it entailed for him. Ergo he thought toilets were better. Second meeting, still no query on financial resources. It was just very odd in as much as we were made painfully aware of his destitute situation. That rather ruined it for me. Sorry

Think twice

Before buying this thing. Read only if you have a kindle unlimited account. I mean, one of the mc is a superhero who has turned into part deer, of all things, and the male mc can't wait to have sex with her! Even as a superhero story a part deer computer genius who WANTS to be this way is WAY over the top. Decent writing this the 2star review, but there are better books out there.

This author seems to love to wax eloquent many times repeating the same details over and over again this fact often drives me nuts because you can't seem to make up his mind. Waxing eloquent only shows that the author thinks his audience is stupid and that they need to be constantly reminded of story details which in turn makes it irritating to read. I found myself constantly going blah blah blah blah to cover up the mundane nonsense and jumping ahead .

It was ok

It was ok. Wish fulfillment is a tough line to balance.
This really felt like super sale on super hero's "light"
With no real cost, no real limit, it lacks the depth to be a great book, let alone something you would read more than once.

Raw sugar alone does not make a dessert.

Good start

Interesting introduction to this series.
While the beginning is slow, it begins to increase in speed after the middle of the story.
Really liked the two main heroines and the MC.

Thought one thing that felt low was the world building of the series.

Will still give the sequel a chance.

A reasonable premise let down by terrible execution and a rather poorly constructed hero who seems unable to see the solutions to his problems despite them staring him in the face. A moderately entertaining climax scene fails to lift this above a 2*. Go (re?)read Super sales on super heroes instead.

Overuse of nor is only reason 4 stars.

Fun beginning to an epic adventure.
Note to author: using "Nor" at the beginning of a sentence so often annoyed me enough to remember. Once or twice per book, not the dozen plus times you used it.

I enjoyed the book, but I would have liked it more if it had slowed down enough to get to know the characters better. Also would have liked it if the MC was give more time to use his particular abilities more.
