(3.5 Stars) An author just barely asked the question on Facebook if anyone has ever read a series out of order and I replied that I have--just not on purpose. This book is one of those cases. I haven't read the other books in the series yet and at times, I was wishing that I had so that I understood the characters and their relationships a little better, and at others, I felt like I had enough to go on, especially for the characters on hand.

Ethan just graduated from college and is off on a dream trip--to visit the Ross Hughes theme park with his best friend, Rafe, and Rafe's step-sister. In an obvious attempt to re-create the Harry Potter mania that still exists, the author presents Ross Hughes and his "world," which is a spoof of all things Potter. I thought that aspect was fun, especially because this common geekdom brought Ethan and Sam even closer, but the story vacillates between carefree fun and romance, and burdensome family drama and responsibilities, which bogged it down a little for me. I can understand the hesitation of making a big decision that will affect the future, but there is a lot of wishy-washy feelings on both sides that was a little frustrating. I'm sure it would have been more clear, had I read the other books first to complete the picture.

That aside, I thought the chemistry and starry eyes were a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the setting. I loved the clever ways the HP theme was slightly changed and the excitement over being in this park was contagious. That ending though--super cute!

Content: mild romance; one character was manipulated by her mother, which led to self-harm (not graphically described, but may be hard for those dealing with similar issues to read about)

*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own and were not affected by this.*

This book had a fun premise with the two main characters, Ethan and Sam. They've known each other for years, but they've never met in person. Ethan is Sam's brother's roommate. When Sam and Rafe (her brother) chat, Ethan is always around. These two have had some serious sparks flying and that's only through digital video chats. Neither one of them are sure what to expect when they finally get the chance to meet.

When the chance comes to go to the amazing Ross Hughes theme park all together, how could they refuse. Sam and Ethan will finally get their chance. But the question is...is it all one sided or does the other feel the same way?

I enjoyed how the author did a spin off of Harry Potter and created a magical world that Sam and Ethan have connected with each other over. Ross Hughes (think Harry Potter) is the fictional character in a book series that both of them like. They both had dreamt for years of going to this theme park and can't wait to let their inner nerds experience everything.

These two characters have some harder backgrounds and are in definite need of finding someone who can understand the pain they have felt, as well as truly love them, for them. Yes, the chemistry and sparks were real and I really enjoyed their first meeting and subsequent moments when they were trying to figure out what was going on between them. Several almost first kisses that were a great build up to the real first kiss.

I haven't read any of the previous books in this author's Safe Harbors series which, personally, I think would really help readers connect better with this story. At the beginning of the book, I was confused by all the references to different family members and characters. We weren't explained who they were and so I felt a little lost. I think that could be cleared up really easy with the author giving a quick couple word blip like, Sam's dad so and so, or Ethan's stepbrother so and so. Maybe I'm the only reader who will feel that way and others won't notice it. Especially if you've already read the series. It isn't a super critical aspect to the story but at the beginning of it when you're trying to hook readers, it made it hard to connect for me. It happens at another point in the book where all these family members of Ethan's show up and he's dropping their names as if the reader should know who they are (because they're from previous books) and I was completely clueless as to who they were and felt frustrated again as to who they all were. I loved that scene though and that Ethan had all of his family with him. Not something super important but just a frustration I had while reading the book.

There were a couple parts between the two MCs where they were back and forth a little on their thoughts and some of their reasonings didn't quite add up for me. Again, probably just my personal preference and other readers won't even think anything about it.

It had its fun moments and some great sparks. The ending was cute as well. I am interested in reading the previous books in the series and figuring out who all those characters were and their backstories.

Content: Clean. Sam does have some relationship issues with her mom. A lot of manipulation from her mom and the book does talk about that relationship causing Sam to self harm herself and other emotional struggles she had from her mom. So if that's a trigger for you, I would suggest not reading the book. It was done in a way that wasn't graphic but enough to really sense the emotions and struggle for her Her mom does show up several times throughout the story.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

3.5 stars for this book in the Destined for Love, Resorts series. This is my first book by this author and it's also part of the Safe Harbor series, which I am not familiar with.

I really liked the premise--finally meeting someone you've gotten to know via weekly video chats. Considering all the books I've read, I haven't read a story using that idea. Sam and Rafe are step-siblings who video chat frequently. Ethan is Rafe's college roommate who's there during the chats and he's talked with Sam for hours, but they've never met. All that's about to change when Ethan has a chance to go to the Ross Hughes theme park (similar to Harry Potter) after his college graduation and he invites Rafe and Sam to go along.

Sam and Ethan are excited to finally meet each other. Add to that, the excitement of being at the theme park they've dreamed of going to for years, where they can let their Ross Hughes nerd flag fly high. Sam has a lot of fun picking out interactive rings and using them around the theme park, but her trip is marred by constant text and calls from her mother about moving to NY and working with her stepfather (who I don't think she really cares for). She mentions that her mother is manipulative and was happier when her mother and stepfather lived in Europe because she didn't have much contact with them.

Ethan and Sam have great chemistry and there were several sweet almost kiss moments before they finally kiss and experience all the fireworks that happen with first kisses, but they've both had difficult relationships with family members--Sam with her mother and Ethan trying to live up to his stepbrother's accomplishments, and what he thinks his stepfather expects of him. I like how Sam finally speaks up to her mother and figures out how to have her in her life without her toxicity, and Ethan realizes his stepfather is already proud of him and he doesn't have to compete with his stepbrother.

I liked Sam's relationship with her dad, and her stepmother. How she and her dad had read the Ross Hughes books together, and that she wanted to do that with her younger half-siblings. I love to see the love of reading, and the love of fictional characters shared or passed down to others.

The thing that kept me from giving this book a higher rating was all the confusion I had in the beginning of the story. This is the fourth book in a series that I'm not familiar with, but it's also part of the Destined for Love series which I really like. The three main characters all have parents that are divorced and remarried and have step-siblings or half-siblings. At one point I thought I was going to have to start highlighting the names and making notes to remind myself who they were related to. A little clarification such as Ethan's stepbrother, or Jack, Ethan's stepfather, would've helped immensely. Once that was passed I really enjoyed the rest of the book.

Yep. I wrote it. I loved writing Sam again (see Second Chances 101). Ethan also had a cameo in that book, but you've seen him before in A Change of Plans. Obviously, I've had plans for their HEA for a while.

I know a lot of people find it hard to believe that adults--(even older ones) can geek out about Harry Potter. Let me assure you that they can because I'm one of them and, believe me, I had LOTS of company.

This story is very realistic. I served for five years on the Leaky Cauldron's forum, The Leaky Lounge, prior to the release of the final book (like Sam's father Alex did in the book). I can attest to the fact that the book series is NOT just for kids. I know of at least one couple who were working as staff on the forum and fell in love online. She was from the UK and he from the South. They're still happily married, have two beautiful children, and continue to share their passion for the series. They attended the opening of the park on the first day and met Jo Rowling who'd heard about their romance and was thrilled for them.

On the forums I moderated, we had attorneys, geneticists, college professors, business professionals, (and more!), and of course students both in high school and college. They served as moderators (which is something you might be asked to do if you showed you could participate in debates without losing your cool). And believe me, we needed moderators because those oh-so-mature adults were PASSIONATE about their opinions about the stories. But our participants were also just people--young and old--who loved geeking out together while theorizing about the books and the world Jo created.

Many who have a passion for the wizarding world Jo created were mature adults--and by "mature" I mean OLD. *raises hand* I think we lose something precious when we "mature" out of having fun. Like Sam and Ethan in this story, I never want to be one of those boring adults.

The lady who created our forum, Melissa Anelli, wrote a book about the fan experience. When I read it, it was so true to what we'd lived. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017SV31Y

In my humble opinion, geeks rule.

In this light-hearted romance, Samantha has crushed on Ethan (her brother’s best friend) for years. Despite having never met each other in person, their weekly conversations, together with her brother Rafe, have brought the unlikely pair to a place where the attraction between them is sizzling. The story line is sweet and clean, however I did find the family relationships a bit difficult to follow. I also found the concept of the cult following, to the extent of visiting a theme park a bit odd, but that my be my age speaking against me. I did however, relate to the pressure of overbearing parents and toxic relationships, and like Samantha, I also had to make a choice to distance myself from people who sucked the life out of me. I was therefore able to relate on issues of interpersonal relationships. There is however, a life lesson to be learned from this book, and it well to take the advice to heart before one’s is destroyed be maliciousness. I received a copy of this book for free as a gift, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Two smart nerds find the magic of love in the magic of a story theme park. A fun book with a few twists that surprised me, especially at the end.
This guy could've been my husband--such a sweet and loving nerd--they really make the best boyfriends/ husbands! You can't help falling in love with Ethan as you read this sweet story. My hubby would totally have promised to "make each day an adventure and raise our children to be geeks just like us."
This is my first book by Donna Weaver, but it won't be my last.

Destined For Love: Resorts - Having read the two other Destined For Love series: Europe and Mansions, I had to read this series, too. All the books from the Destined authors are well written, with interesting characters and realistic dialog, and intriguing storylines. The books are clean and don't have the annoying Stupid formula. (Characters act immature, don't communicate their feelings and problems while having sex all the time they're together: the Stupid formula.) These authors show that the plots can have suspense and intrigue without the stupidity.

Michelle Pennington, The Trust of a Billionaire (#1) - What a fun story! I fell in love with Hannah. She's one of the most interesting, fun, laid back but mature character I've discovered in a while. This is my first story by this author and I love it! The other four main characters were also interesting and fun, and two were very supportive and loving. It was heartwarming to see the effects of love on the three main characters. 5*

Anne-Marie Meyer, Marrying an Athlete (#2 in both Resorts and Fake Marriage Series) - This is my first book by this author and I was happy with it. A quickly read, interesting little romance coming to full bloom between two people who are childhood and adult friends. All the characters are interesting, realistic and mature in their actions. But I did think it was strange that the friends didn't unpack; the stay is a week. I contacted the Destined For Love group to review their books. 4*

Victorine El Lieske, Her Big Fat Dreamy Billionaire Ex (#3) - This is my first read by Ms. Lieske and I liked it. My favorite character is Grams and she's the heart of the story. The well thought out storyline twists and turns, teasing the reader with the sexual tension between the two main character, whom are very likable and realistic with their actions and dialog. No Stupid formula used in this book. Although I don't care for mil-/billionaire stories, I enjoyed this one immensely. I contacted the Destined For Love group to review all the DFL book, when they let me. 5*

Donna K. Weaver, Kings Crossed Lovers (#4) - My first book by this author and I like it. A well written, fast paced romance. I don't really care for this age group, but I liked the characters and wanted to see how they got to the end, or the beginning in their case. Heavy with the Harry Potter theme, but still interesting since there were influences from NY and Montana, and a vast variety of secondary characters; a blend well done. The main characters do grow into their adult selves and have plenty of help with their decisions. There's a good blend of humor making this a good story worth reading. 5*

Sally Johnson, If The Suit Fits (#5) - This is my second book by this author and I loved it almost as much as I loved Desperately Seeking Mr. Right (DFL: Europe). A quickly read, well written romance that is fast paced and interesting. The main characters are fun, interesting and believable. The "lie thing" kind of bothered me that she wasn't a bit more understanding, but there had to be conflict. There should have been more communications, less drama and flight. 4*

Kings Crossed Lovers is a fantasy-lover’s love story. Set in a familiar yet imaginary theme park for wizards, we follow Ethan, his best friend Rafe, and Rafe’s sister Samantha on a vacation trip filled with imagination and the possibility of a magical romance. Sam and Ethan pack their secret crushes for each other, their geeky nature, and some extra unwanted emotional issues in their carry-on luggage and then head off for an adventure of a lifetime. Their attraction for each other grows, but so does their personal turmoil.

Weaver casts the perfect spell, but don’t take my word for it. Read the book to find out how this magical story unfolds. (The book is always better than the movie!)

Donna K. Weaver made it fun to find the Harry Potter references throughout her tale. Anyone who is a fangirl to fantasy, sci-fi, or the comics will love this sweet romance—because romance can happen anywhere, even at a theme park for wizards. She continues to build on the great characters she had previously introduced in her Safe Harbor Series. While Kings Crossed Lovers can stand alone as a great story, knowing a little of the backstory of the characters adds to the enjoyment of the read.

Ethan and Samantha are strong, convincing, relatable characters—intelligent and focused on the outside, driven by their geekdom on the inside, and grappling with two different antagonists that end up driving them together by the end.

The antagonists were realistic—a controlling parent and the mental anguish of not measuring up. It was easy to bond with our heroes right from the start and then root for them to overcome their demons and find happiness with each other.

Family is important to Weaver—all her stories show how love of family is vital to the climax, and King’s Crossed Lovers is no exception. If you grew up with a big family, you’ll love how Weaver ties in family bonds; if you didn’t, you’ll wish you had.

Sweet romance is not my favorite genre because it feels too cliché. But I’m first in line to read Weaver’s books because she goes beyond expectations. Her characters are more than fictional, the situations and stories she creates are more than fantasy. She makes you want to be a part of her world. ~ Nanette O’Neal, author of A Doorway Back to Forever series.

I am not really into fantasy games, etc, but I seriously enjoyed this fantasy lovers romance. The story world, the theme park and the characters are all excellently done. I love the step parents in the story. I will not give anything away, but I had to read the scene where Ethan brings family to the penthouse three times - once a day for three days. That was priceless! Obviously, I am highly recommending this book. If you love fantasy games and theme parks, you will probably enjoy it even more than I did.

This one was just plain fun with a little emotional side dish added in. Ethan and Rafe have graduated from Harvard undergrad and going on vacation after spending the summer in Montana before Ethan starts medical school and they invite Sam to join them. Ethan and Sam have always had chemistry on their "family" chats but when they meet in person it is evident they really have chemistry. It was good to see the rest of the family (both sides, err, all sides and those who come along with them). Definitely a great ending! This one was enjoyed on audio and the narrator was great!

If you’re looking for a fast, fun read, then I recommend this book. I really enjoyed reading about Ethan and Samantha and the road that they travel to get to where they are. I feel like this book can be read by all ages and will let people know that stepparents can get along with their stepchildren, sometimes even better than the actual parents do. I love all the Resorts books I’ve read so far and I can’t wait to read more books from Donna K. weaver.

"Kings Crossed Lovers" by Donna K Weaver
I liked this story. I did get a little lost in the theme park, book, movie references. But, I did get re-energized when I realized that I had met some of the characters in a previous book. I was gifted an ARC for my review. This is a sweet clean romance with a couple of twists.

I received a free copy of Kings Crossed Lovers, Safe Harbor book 4 by Donna K. Weaver and this review was given freely.
This novella is one of discovering what truly matters, becoming empowered, learning to move away from toxic relationships to a supporting and nurturing one, and of course accepting love. A short and sweet fast paced story featuring premed Ethan and makeup artist Samantha's romance, Samantha's gamer brother and, the loving yet interfering family we have met in the last three Safe harbor books. While short, this is an emotional complex book with negative subtle and not so subtle undertones balanced by both a loving family and the joy a theme park can provide.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review. I truly enjoyed reading Ethan's and Samantha's story. I really enjoyed catching up with the characters from the Safe Harbour series. This was an enjoyable short story showing how family can influence your life in good and bad ways. I would recommend this to all who love a good romance. My new word learnt in the book is "squee". Also like the line "things hidden in plain sight".

Donna did an excellent job of creating a Harry Potter-esque park without infringing on copyrights. That, combined with her masterful approach to meet cute romance, and the premise of destined lovers who haven't yet met but know each other through their mutual love of said park made for a great read. Clean romance doesn't get much better than this.

This book mentions some characters from previous books but a newbie to the series won’t be lost without having read the other books in the series. It helps but it’s not essential. This author is a good writer, no question. I did enjoy the storyline but couldn’t relate to the characters. The female character is into steam punk style and is a staunch vegetarian and I couldn’t relate to that. Maybe I’m being too picky but when I can’t relate to a character I find myself too removed and I can’t get into it as much. Having said that, I’m rating it based on merit as a well-written book, well edited, and a clean romance. I give it 4 stars.

Having adored Donna K Weaver's book "A Change of Plans," the first in this series, I was eager to read this one when I received an ARC for it, though I haven't yet read the others in the series. I would class this book as very good, though not the absolutely amazing zenith of "A Change of Plans." The feel is a bit more light-hearted, centered at a Harry-Potter like theme park which had me grin at the parallels. ;) The romance is cute, the main characters endearing. (I did find Sam's brother Rafe annoying many times! ;) ) The main downside was that the beginning was a bit slow, but hang in there, it's well worth it. :D

Okay, this is going to be a mixed review and I'm not quite sure where to start. So, first, I LOVE that these two have been talking to each other through video chat for years before they meet. They've become friends and really already fallen in love without knowing if the chemistry is there. They both suspect it will be, but they already like each other for who they are not the sparks that fly when they touch. I love this because it lets the story move quickly (I think it's like 3-4 days tops in the story) and it's okay because it's backed up by years.

The characters are great. They are well rounded, lovable, and imperfect. Sam and Ethan both have one major flaw that could possibly hold them back and that flaw is believable. Sam's mother is toxic. So much so that early on we learn about behaviors Sam used when she was younger to feel like she was in control. I won't spoil it, but when I read it (It isn't a major part of the story and I kind of wish it had come up again, maybe with Ethan) I thought, wow this is going to be real. Everyone knows Sam should walk away from her mom, but Sam keeps saying, "but she's my mom." It made me love her even more for wanting to try. Then there's Ethan. He's going to med school and he knows how hard that can be on a relationship. His motive for not putting a girl through that is admirable if stupid. See, another adorable trait in a character.

You put all of this together and you get a wonderful little story that was a quick read. The only part that I'm still not sure about was the whole Ross Hughes thing. I'm not saying I didn't like the nod to Harry Potter, which this obviously is, I'm just saying I might have found it distracting from the actual romance. Not a bad thing, I just kept focusing more on the connections between Ross and Harry instead of Sam and Ethan.

I give Kings Crossed Lovers a solid 4 with a Clean rating.

1-5 scale and what it means:
1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad
2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing
3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive
3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love
4: Solid mind candy / worth reading
4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read
5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure

Movie Ratings in relation to my review:
Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no sex on or off "screen"
PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, sex is all closed door
PG-13--some language (swear words not related to sex), more talk about sex, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but sex is closed door.
PG-14—somewhere between PG-13 and R. Not erotica, but at least a paragraph of on screen sex
R--swearing (F bomb, on “screen” sex, sometimes feels like the whole story is about the sex and not the relationship or some other plot, but not always

Kings Crossed Lovers by Donna K. Weaver

My rating is 4.5 Stars

Ethan is driven to follow in his stepbrother’s shoes. He knows it means a long hard road of study because he feels that he is not anywhere as brilliant as Braeden. My heart went out to Ethan as he struggled with a need to prove himself, though motivated by the wrong things. . .

One of the saddest themes in literature, in my opinion, is that of a child who has a bad relationship with a parent. Samantha’s mother is so bad, Sam uses the theme of the Wicked Witch of the West for her ringtone. Her desire to grasp onto a semblance of control over her life had led her to rebel and to engage in cutting herself. Fortunately, her dad discovered this and helped her get the counseling she needed, but her mother still had the ability to drive her to despair.

I really liked the way that Ethan and Sam were able to see the things the other needed and were able to speak truth into their lives. Their care for each other was based on years of getting to know each other through video chats with Sam’s stepbrother – Ethan’s best friend and college roommate.

As you’ll see in the author’s bio, she is a Harry Potter geek. This came across in the theme park she created for the book/movie series Ethan and Sam were crazy about which was obviously (even to this non-Harry Potter lover) based on that series. I think it was fun that she created her own theme park for this book.

For those of you who have read Torn Canvas and the other books in the SafeHarbors series, you will, perhaps, recognize Ethan as Braeden’s much younger stepbrother. Many of the characters from that series have cameo appearances in this book and help to save the day in the end. It is not necessary to have read those books in order to enjoy this one.

This was a sweet romance of Ethan and Samantha who had only known each other online. Ethan's college roommate, Rafe, was Samantha's stepbrother. For several years, they had chatted online during Sam's and Rafe's family chats. But the time had come for Ethan to meet Sam in person. Would the connection they felt online be the same in person? Ethan had been given an amazing graduation present to a "Harry Potter"esque themed amusement park. Since Ethan and Sam were the biggest wizardly nerds on the planet, Sam was invited to go along for the trip with Rafe and Ethan.

Both Ethan and Sam learned that they didn't have to please others but needed to forge their own path in life and they could determine what was best and what they needed most in their lives. It was a painful lesson but one that would provide great rewards if they had enough courage to go after what they really wanted.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I enthusiastically provide my review of this book. This isn't the first of Ms. Weaver's books I have read and will probably not be the last. It was an easy, quick read. There was no foul language or sex scenes to distract from the story. There was chemistry and kissing and genuine love.

Rapidly developing💜 romance in a magical 🏰theme park, but not all that magical for me!😕

Format: Kindle Edition
:-\ I wanted to like this sweet, young adult romance more, but had problems following all of the biological, step-, and other relationships with an army of side characters that apparently featured in previous books in the author's Safe Harbor series. It was just too much of an effort to keep everybody and how they fit in to these families straight; as a result, the story did not flow easily and I did not connect with the characters.

The featured couple, Samantha and Ethan, only really spent a few days together before the story's climax. Not much time for a romance to develop. If so much of the story had not been devoted to updating us on side characters and more to the MC connection, I probably would have become more invested in the couple and their story.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Kings Crossed Lovers is a sweet romance that I thoroughly enjoyed! Though the 4th book in the series, I easily read this as a standalone. Ethan and Sam have been online friends for years. When a chance to vacation together with Sam's brother arises, they both g. But will their online spark translate to real life? There are few things I truly loved about this story. First, the art of technology today infused in the story is so lifelike. Having kids that use facetime and skype as a way of communication, the relationship that Ethan and Samantha had prior to actually meeting is very believable to me. I also loved their connection with the books they read, and subsequently the amusement park they went to. It is a theme our family loves and it made the listen a real pleasure. I think this is a fun story, with a slow burn, a little angst and some self awareness and personal growth. Vicki Pierce does a wonderful job with the narration and it is an enjoyable listen.

A Wizarding Tale

I read this book as part of the Destined for Love Resorts series, the resort a Theme park based on books and movies of a bit wizard( no, not that one!!).
This story is somewhat the story of two people, with similar interests, meeting after years of online dating. Our two protagonists have only spoken through video chat due to Sam's brother being Ethan's roommate.
The story is sweet clean romance with a touch of geekiness about it.
However, although it can be read as a standalone story, as part of the Safe Harbors series, I feel i might have benefited more if I had read the previous books. I still enjoyed the book, it's just that at certain points characters from the earlier books are mentioned.
A good read

This is a nice sweet romance about two young people. The premise of Ethan and Sam's story revolves around their shared interest in the Ross Hughes novels, our Harry Potter. As much as I like those books and realize that it's a shared interest between the main characters, I found it a bit overwhelming. I also found that Ethan and Sam lacked maturity based on their relationships with the respective parents. I realize the dynamic gives depth and character understanding but, as a "mature" person, I did not enjoy it. What I did enjoy...the happily ever after from the time Ethan reaches New York and their return trip to Florida.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The story is a sweet romance with likable characters. It is well-written with a nice plot. However, the theme park and the books it was based on are obviously meant to be Harry Potter. To me, this was very distracting from the story. It would have been better without the numerous HP references. Some readers might like it. It just didn't work for me. That's the only reason I gave it a lower rating. One thing I loved was the interaction at Victoria's penthouse. I don't want to spoil it, so I won't say anything more. But it was awesome!

Although this is book 4 in a series, I was able to listen to this as a stand-alone with no problem. I really enjoyed this book and seeing how a relationship can grow from just video chats before even meeting someone in person. Ethan and Sam are so cute together, especially when their book nerdiness comes into play at the amusement park. The narration was fantastic in this book too. Probably one of the most realistic southern accents I’ve heard he narrated before (speaking from a southerner herself). I am excited to see what else this narrator and author have available.
