The genres you’ll find me hanging out at are contemporary and paranormal YA, but I’m also snooping into some adult paranormal right now. All of them romances…of course.
The nitty-gritty:
I’m an Austrian lass—totally uncomplicated and up to anything fun.
I grew up in Vienna, not by free will but because my parents decided to move there when I was only 4 years old. I. Hated. The. City. Everything about it. So right after graduation I moved back to Upper Austria, where I settled down with a nice husband and an awesome laptop.
I’ve been a storyteller all my life. Already in kindergarten, I came up with the most exotic fantasies and tales. My teacher would call me a liar. I call it the cornerstone of my writing career.
People always told me you can’t make a living with being an author. So when my first novella PLAY WITH ME came out and shot straight to the stars within the first week, I was totally dumbstruck. Took me a while to realize what was happening, LOL.
And the personal stuff:
At the (awesome) age of seventeen, I met the love of my life. But he was a playboy, and I was so not going to be his next trophy. It took him another four years of fighting for me until I finally decided to give that “couple-thing” with him a shot. I’m now married to this man. ;-)
We have an eleven-year-old son, and together we travel a lot…although I sometimes wish the trips were shorter because I can’t wait to get back to my laptop and my many stories. Unless we’re in Disneyland. No stress to go home then…
If you still want to know more about me, my FAQ page is the right address for you. ;-)
*SIGH* This was just A MILLION TYPES OF SWEETNESS.... I KNEW Ryan was sweet, but DAMN, i did not realise HOW SWEET he was on Liza...
*SWOON* All i can say is THANK GOD, he's 18, because if not the things that i would like to do to him, would be downright ILLEGAL!!! LOL!!
And can i just say it was AWESOME reading Liza's and Ryan's story from Ryan's POV!!!! LOVED being inside his sweet male mind!
So yup, my GR friends, I CALL DIBS ON RYAN HUNTER!!! (Since i'm the FIRST person to write a review!!) He is TOTALLY my new BOOK BOYFRIEND/CRUSH :)
Again, Piper, you have BLOWN ME AWAY with Ryan's story/POV... truly well written, oh so sweet, utterly enjoyable and totally swoonworthy!! Well worth the 5 stars if not more and a place on my loved-it shelf! :)
Ryan Hunter, how did you manage to make yourself dreamier and sexier in this book? I mean, c'mon, that's totally unfair that you made me love you even more and I can't do anything about it outside of my not so clean imagination!
But seriously, dang it, I think I may just swooned myself through this book. Being in Ryan's mind may not be as PG-rated as Liza's but heck, was it still as sweet as ever. Maybe even a little bit because I swear that boy turns into a humongous block of sugarand more where Liza is concerned. He just got it bad for her that much. And for such a long time that I can't help but wish my name was just Liza too!
*le sigh*
Piper Shelly did an amazing job with this. It was still the story we all fell in love with, but she was still able to bring a flare of new bits here and there that would touch your hearts, put smile(and a manic grin later) on your face, and develop an immense jealousy with Liza Matthews make your blood race with all of Ryan Hunter's sexy glory! ;)
---------------- MY EYES ARE NOT DECEIVING ME!
It's really a book in Ryan Hunter's POV!
"It starts shortly before the time that PWM started, and it will end with the epilogue and a little something, so basically the same story, but with deeper insights and more information, also on Tony. (His book is next, but not on the same story. He'll get a book of his own and a cute girl too) " - Piper Shelly
It will start before PWM and end on the epilogue! How can this get any better?! The freaking epilogue was so good, and now, will also have it on Ryan's POV too? Screw you air! I'm totally fainting!
THANK YOU SO MUCH PIPER!
And Ryan? See you in July! MAY!!!(The release is being moved earlier! ASDFGHJKLZNBHGAJHD! *wink*
Awwww that ending was so sweet.🥺🥰 That, my friends, was definitely a better ending than the previous book.👌 So glad I decided to read this AND it was from Ryan Hunter's POV.😍 That guy really knows how to make a girl love him.
Ryan Hunter was basically the same story as Play With me except there were some added parts that we weren't in the first book and all of it was told through Ryan's POV. The ending especially left everything complete—definitely not sudden at all.
I noticed something while reading a certain scene:
"Our fridge was stocked with things that tasted better than Corona, and I didn’t like the thought of her getting tipsy at my party, anyway."
^Woah, I did not know Corona was a drink???? Could this mean something.......?👀
Reading all of Ryan's thoughts got me feeling bad for him many times throughout the book. I'm glad things worked out for him in the end. I definitely liked this a lot more than the first that was told through Liza's POV—although, I sometimes did skim some of the parts that were exactly the same as Play With Me. That couldn't be helped though.🤷♀️
Anyways, I kind of only read these two books because my GR challenge needed help and I have a feeling I won't be finishing it at the rate I'm going.
I know that if push comes to shove........my last resort will be: Mangas😱😅
I LOVED this. Told in Ryan's pov, this is his take on what happened in Play With Me. I knew Ryan had liked Lisa from afar, but I had no idea how much he adored her and for how long. The level of intensity in his feelings for Lisa was incredible. I absolutely loved how cool he played himself, how completely unaffected he acted while the whole time he was waging such an emotional war. That's my fave thing about Ryan...he was such a guy...cocky, smart, athletic, hot, but such a vulnerable softie inside.
I loved him and Lisa together here even more. There were quite a few new scenes we got making a book in Ryan's pov very much worth it. This author also gave Ryan a very genuine male voice. His character came across as everything you'd expect from an 18 year old guy. So, well done Anna Katmore. But really? I LOVED Ryan Hunter. Adored him. I haven't felt that way over a YA male lead in forever. A straight out 5 stars for this one!
I'm so glad I accidentally read this book first. It had a much longer story and is Ryan's version of the events from book one. It's refreshing to read a ya romance from a guy's pov. His story was so honest and I really enjoyed it!
Ryan has been crazy for Lisa as long as he can remember but he's never told a soul. Probably because she has always been head over heels for his best friend Tony. At soccer camp he finds out Tony is interested in a much different girl and finally sees his chance to make a move for Lisa. First he has to try to convince her to tryout for the new co-ed soccer team he coaches and just maybe he will get to spend more time with her.
Just one question : Why do you love Lisa so much? I have to assume that's because she's so pretty because you fell in love with her before even talking to her. I have a problem with that. But maybe I'm just a cold-heart bitch. Go figure^^
I know I didn't really like the first one, so why did I read the second? Well, I was interested to see how Shelly would portray the POV of a teenage boy. The answer: not well.
Ryan Hunter wasn't so much a guy as he was a "guy as envisioned by an unrealistic woman". Which is a problem in many YA titles. There are entirely too many references to Liza's "sweet face" and "sexy body" and "beautiful hair"....anything physical about Liza is apparently perfect, and apparently a reason for Ryan to wax poetic about her in his brain banana. He loves Liza, but we never get a reason for this love other than his insatiable desire to fill her with his man jam. It's all shallow physicality, on both sides. Wholly unsatisfying.
I wasn't blown away by the grammatical talent of the first book, but it didn't entirely throw me off. With this book, however, Shelly manages to prove to the world that she is far from being a wordsmith. At one point, Tony calls Ryan an "infantile". Yes, an infantile. 'Infantile' is an adjective. Not a noun. That wasn't the only instance of grammatical fuckery, but it was the one that tipped the scales for me.
I know why this has gotten such high ratings, though. Teenagers and young adults love the idea of a boyfriend like Ryan Hunter. He's gorgeous, popular, wealthy, and "sweet"....and he's been pining over Liza for years. Read that; years. Homeboy's been crushin' on Liza since third grade. He's a senior in high school, has girls falling at his feet most of the time, but he's kept a distance from Liza because she's "in love" with his buddy. It doesn't make much sense, honestly. It's just so damn silly to me. Just straight up nonsense. His actions were completely ludicrous. There was absolutely no reason for him to "take things slow" and tiptoe around Liza and not make his feelings clear other than the fact that he needed to look untrustworthy in order to further the obstacle. Liza needed to believe Ryan didn't really want to spend time with her, so his "let's take things slow" BS just feeds into that for the sake of the story. I hate it, hate it when authors craft characters to fit the story.
Attention, authors who mold their characters to fit the story:
THIS ON DEFINITELY DESERVES LOTS OF LOVE FOR THE AUTHOR.
BEST.GUY.POV.EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot believe how much I love Ryan Hunter right now. I mean, obviously, I already loved him in Liza's POV. I just never imagined that the guy had it for her for the longest time! JUST WOW. I AM TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY! Just how can a guy endure the feat of seeing the love of his life with another guy for years, I don't know... but gosh! HUNTER JUST MADE IT ALL LOOK SO EASY... and SWEET.. and LOVABLE.. AND DREAMY... YES, YOU ARE DREAMY HUNTER.. AND SO SEXY.. AND SO VERY SWEET AND I AM REDUNDANT CUZ I'M SO IN LOVE WITH YOUR CHARACTER.
WE SHOULD ALL DEFINITELY READ THIS. YES, THIS IS ALL CAPS BECAUSE I DEMAND IT!!! ^_^ PIPER SHELLY IS ONE GREAT AUTHOR TO MAKE ME FEEL.... giddy and all fluttery inside! ^_______^
If you've read Play with me, you are missing out if you haven't picked this one up yet. I ADORED Ryan's POV. He is such a sweetheart. It was the perfect complement to Liza's side of the story.
I'm hoping this wont be the last we see of this couple. I was itching for a far-into-the-future epilogue (which I didn't get) but I'd settle for another book. Actually, I'd love for Tony to get a book - maybe with Susan aka "book lover" perhaps?
All I know is I want more Ryan and Liza. I want the whole thing, marriage, babies, the works (yeah, I get there only in HS, but seriously. I LOVE them!!!)
"I think it's time that you know I'm in love with you, Liza. That you've been my very own sunshine for a very long time. And that I don't intend to let you ever get out of my arms again.
Can someone say..B-B-BOOKGASM???? Cuz that's exactly what this book gave me!
What could I say about this book? Apart from being fucking ecstatic when I realize #1 - there was more Ryan Hunter, #2 ...I got the pleasure to enter Ryan Hunter's mind. #3 There was more Ryan Hunter. #4 RYAN-fucking-HUNTER!!!!!
Really, Need I say more?
Gah!!! Ryan Ryan Ryan....He is everything, and I mean EVERYTHING a girl wants, and more - Well me at least. haha. I remember reading Play With Me, DEVOURING that book where I was on high from. WEEKS AFTER READING IT!!! I was so fucking sad it was so short, and that there was no more books to read. So when I noticed there was another book in Ryan's POV... I honestly put a pause on the book(s) I was reading and picked up this.
Read it through non-stop (neglected my work...I know I know...it was shamefully bad BUT...Ryan needed me)
I NEEDED RYAN HUNTER!!
Getting to know what Ryan was thinking, his feelings and things that cleared up from reading his POV just made me fall in love for the whole damn thing...ALL OVER AGAIN!!! And I admit - I pulled up PLAY WITH ME - and it was like...MIND BLOWING. Like reading one big amazing novel, POV by POV... It was so fun reading how he was affected, or what he was thinking, then going over to Liza's mind in PWM and getting her version...It's just... I don't think words can express how I feel.
haha... One thing I love about this book too is how easily it was to fall into Ryan's shoe. Honestly I felt like a boy reading this book and it was jus thrilling. I love Ryan to the core...LOVE LOVE LOVE. And hearing his voice just gave me a completely FULL insight of both his and Liza's mind, their lives - their feelings. GAH
THIS BOOK IS A MUST..MUST MUST MUST!!!!
There's a few mistakes in the book though and usually that's a huge pet peeve for me... I'm neurotic like that, that i literally would find myself putting down a book to compose myself...But... I didnt put down this book once I picked it up - honest to God truth and if I did that - stomping on my pet peeve and telling it to LET ME READ RYAN GOSHDAMMIT!!! ...
Then... Yes...Yes I am hypnotically in love with this book..and RYAN HUNTER
Gotta compose myself though because he loves Liza and am glad he got his girl. But him calling me HIS GIRL...is soo...~~!!!
Omg did I say how sexy Ryan was? Like fuck me sexy???
Because...He is. He like totally is <---And I seriously did an accent with that.
I...
...seriously love that dude, Ryan Hunter.
PS. AND SO HAPPY WE'LL GET TO SEE TONY HAPPY...Cuz the amazing Piper Shelly is writing ANOTHER book in the Grover Beach Team series.
Like...WOAH.
I think I love you Piper Shelly. Lmao ... Seriously; I have been THIRSTING for more on those peeps (Liz, Ryan and Tony) and my wish has come true.
WOW. Two days ago I couldn't believe I didn't know there was more of Liza and Ryan to be had. I liked the story from Liza's POV but I LOVED it from Ryan's.
If you asked me yesterday I would have said that I couldn't like Ryan more but I was sooo wrong. He is so sweet and lovable. AND he has a personality, sth that in most YA books is missing(Liza kind of misses this one too). I liked the fact that P.S. didn't try to make him one of these "I don't care about anything" teens. He cared how his friends saw him just like any other guy in his age. His playboy status was more about keeping up an image than anything else. Should I dislike it? Nope. He is an 18 year old boy. Anything less wouldn't be believable.
Now this story is probably targeting a little lower than my age group but I really don't care. The story was adorable without the slight whining and immaturity of Liza's book. It's one of these books that you can't help falling in love with. It was fast paced, funny and sooo cute.
Btw in this book I liked Tony even less than I did in the previous.
Also Shelly has awesome songs in her books' playlists. My favorite
PS. Is this series going to have more books? Maybe based in other characters? I'd love it!xD
Another Fabulous Book. I loved his pov. It was so well done. I've had problems with the hero pov being the exact same scenes, that was not the case. We got to really see what Hunter was doing and his motivation and how plotted to win the girl. You could totally read this as a stand lone and not be lost, but your not going to want to miss out on all the other great books in this series. Trust Me. :)
The beginning of this book somehow reminds me of Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, not because it has the same story, which it isn’t but because it is about a sweet-adorable first love story. When I read Play With Me, Piper Shelly made me wondering until the very last pages who will Liza choose, her bestfriend, Tony or her new but not-so new friend, Ryan. I loved the way she wrote Liza POV, it made me wanting more of the story.
This book is Play With Me from Ryan POV. Since I’ve already known he is the one Liza chose, I’m not wondering between Tony and Ryan anymore. But it doesn’t mean this book is a repetition of Play With Me, it also has something new to read. In some part I found it is more intriguing because Ryan ‘voice’ is so interesting to be read. He's just like any other teenage boy but he’s also witty and even hilarious. I cannot help compare his POV to Liza’s. Here is for example:
Ryan: Forty-seven…” I looked up who was next and found myself face to face with the girl who dominated ninety-nine percent of my thoughts. “Matthews.” IT WAS NICE to see that Liza mirrored my smile with one of her own. She hadn’t done that before, ever. Not that I had smiled at her a lot so far, or that we’d had any eye-contact other than a passing look in the school corridor. Not wearing a cap seemed to have been a good idea, because her gaze so obviously wandered up to my chaotic hairstyle then snapped back to my face as though she was caught ogling. I didn’t mind. If she liked what she saw, she could happily stare at me all day.
Liza: “Forty-seven…Matthews,” Ryan Hunter shouted to Susan Miller, who wrote down names on a list. He gave me the sticker which I was supposed to pop on my chest and smiled. So far, I hadn’t seen Ryan without his ball cap, except on rare occasions, and then from far away, too. But today, the sun played in his dark hair that fell devilishly over his forehead, giving him a whole new appearance. His unexpected good looks took me unaware, and he caught me staring. His matter of fact tone changed to a sly rumble.
On the other hand, the comparison made me realize there are differences between those books that make me wonder whether it is an inconsistency or not. For instance scene when Ryan distracts Liza to go to Club Tuscany and challenge her to drink tequila. In Play With Me Ryan said
“No, you don’t. That’s for me. You only assist with the lemon”.
But in this book, he said
“No, you don’t,” I assured her, hoping she’d keep up her bravery. “That’s for me. You only assist with the lime”.
And there is also about the way Ryan calls everyone with first name/last name. Rachel said Ryan calls his friends with their last name, but sometimes in the dialogue he calls them with first name while as a narrator he calls them with last name and vice versa. Although it is quite distracted me, Ryan Hunter is an interesting book to read.
4.5 Stars!! The same story, the same characters as in Play With Me, but yet different! Well done Piper Shelly!
This is how you do a book from an alternating point-of-view!! You know the story from reading Play With Me, but the Ryan Hunter you think you know, is so much more than the popular captain of the soccer team, and oh my, what a lovely surprise he was. He's a tough one alright, the cool rich kid that has all the answers, but what you'll find in this book is how much this young man feels, how much he wants Liza to be his girl, how he's been pining for her for years, but he wants to do the right thing, not step on a friends toes, so he bides his time. Behind all the flirting and bravado is a boy who's desperate to win over the one who holds his heart, and when things go bad, we see and feel how much he hurts, when the girl of his dreams starts to slip away.
The author did a great job giving us Ryan's perspective and it was wonderful getting into this dreamy teenage boy's head and at times rather amusing.
Stuffing the things back under the quilt, I stood and walked over to her desk. There must have been a pile with a billion books, but nothing that I would be interested in. There wasn’t any Stephen King or Joe Hill. Just loads from someone called Kenyon, and there were pictures of half-naked guys on most of them. Hunky guys. Was that Liza’s preference? I looked down at myself, lifting my shirt, and decided if she went for the muscular built, then I was just her man.
You are the man Ryan Hunter!! Adorable, honorable (when your mind doesn't wander to less than honorable thoughts, but that's what teenage boys do), a little full of yourself, but you are perfect for Liza and she is just what you need.
There are a few additional scenes mixed in this book that didn't involve Liza directly, things that happen when she is out of the picture, which added to the overall enjoyment of the read. One in particular, that really got to me, was the conversation Ryan had with his mother and then his sister. You could see how his emotions got the best of him, and my heart broke. Boys cry too! Especially when they think they're losing the girl they love, their first love.
In order to fully appreciate this book, you MUST read Play With Me first, told from Liza's point of view. I see why the author recommends this and agree with her. On the flip side, I just need to add one more point. As much as I loved the separate books, I would have enjoyed it even more if the author had combined the stories, with the alternating points-of-view, into one book. Being able to read Liza and Ryan's journey at the same time would have been amazing! Maybe she'll consider doing this with the rest of the series. None the less, I was charmed by both books in this well done YA romance and look forward to reading Tony's book, and hopefully 'book lover' gets a book of her own too!
Piper Shelly just released Ryan Hunter book!!! :) It's on her Wordpress blog. http://pipershelly.com/ryan-hunter-gb... How cool is that?! It's until Chapter 8. I haven't read it yet, will do later when I wake up. Yay! UPDATE, the book got a total of 14 Chapters plus an Epilogue.
REVIEW
OMG!!! I love Ryan Hunter a helluva LOT!!! Reading their story, Ryan and Liza, all over again and told from Ryan's POV... WOW. I like it! It is really nice knowing what Ryan Hunter thought about Liza. I really liked knowing how and what Liza do to him. Dammit. Pretty cool and sweet.
But I just had to say... Ryan Hunter sounds like a horny dude in here. LMAO. Well, I guess that's how some men's mind thinks. *smirk* And for a male teenager, I could understand his... situation. Good thing he is really in love with Liza and not the type who just want to get into her pants.
Thank you Sheryl for you know what! ;) This is such a fun read as always. Piper Shelly did a good job once again! :) Hope to hear from Tony soon! :)
The fact that he is such a loyal friend and was willing to give good advice to Tony had me shooketh 😶 Ryan is such a sweet ‘bad boy’ that I don’t even think the words bad boy fit him 😭🤚🏽 his book was definitely more interesting that Liza’a honestly because the setting, plot and overall story was way much more described than in the first book and I liked that.
If she got her foot into this game with me, she wouldn't get out of it single. I wanted her to be aware of whom she was dealing with, because I'd never felt as true to the name Bay Shark as I did in this moment.
Holy Shit. Ryan Hunter if you were real...the things I would do to you...
So I read Play With Me sometime last year. Not sure when, can't remember. So imagine my shock when I happened to come across this page and saw that there was another book...from Ryan's Pov.
I almost had a heart attack but didn't because if I did I wouldn't have been able to read this book.
So I got the book and I made sure to read the entire Play with Me before I started this just to get back the feel of things. Play with me was great but this book right here was the effing SHIT! Where do I start? Oh I know...Ryan Hunter. Sighs. RYAN freaking Hunter.
RYAN FREAKING HUNTER Where are you? And why haven't we met? You are too perfect. You are too sweet. You are too hot. Sighs. Swoons
I swear while reading this book I just wanted to jump in the pages and take him away from Liza. (Liza, girl I love you but damn. Your man is just DAMN)
Let me just throw in a few quotes and thoughts from Ryan freaking Hunter because DAMN.
She'd be there tonight. And in my house it would be my rules. She didn't know it yet, but she wouldn't stand a chance. In the end, she'd be mine.
My personal pleasure would be to see her strip naked right now. ~ Oooh Naughty Hunter
I looked down at myself, lifting my shirt, and decided if she went for the muscular built, then I was just her man. ~ Oh don't you know it Ryan.
There are so many more juicy and swoon worthy quotes but I can't give them all away. I must say that Ryan's thoughts are definitely not as pure as Liza's. That boy had me sweating. He was just so SWEET and SEXY and FREAKING RYAN HUNTER!!!
I don't know about you guys but this is how I picture him.
Yes. HOT FREAKIN DAMN YESSSS!!!!
Anyway before I get carried away let me just say that I'm so glad that Piper Shelly wrote a book from his point of view because I would have never known just how much this guy was crazy for Liza. He was so sweet on her even when she was infatuated with her best friend he was still crazy for her. He has such a wonderful personality and he actually cared about his friends. I don't know why but I never really got a feel for Tony but I'm still gonna read his book when it comes out. Lol.
Piper Shelly is amazing. So amazing.
Well, that is all. If you're here reading reviews because you're wondering if you should get this book or if it's worth it. It is. Get it. Own it. Read it. Embrace it. Love it. It's a nice, quick, fast paced read.
„Ryan Hunter – This Girl Is Mine“ ist der 2.
“But you know, when you're in love, there's this denial button you just switch on, and everything is good for a while.”
This is my initial reaction before reading this book. I know, it's crazy.
I just actually read this in a PC since my e-reader is not working, I had this strict rule for myself that I should read again when I got a new one, but this book is just asking me to break it.
Hunter!! I love him since Play With Mewho didn't anyway?
Though I have this tiny little doubt that if I actually got into his head the mysterious effect will get lost. Well, surprise surprise. You'll just love him more. I really don't have a lot of words, because I believe I'll just gush out here. So, what I'm really saying is, reading Play With Me, makes you wanna be Liza, and reading Ryan Hunter, makes you wanna have him!! I know right, same difference. xD
It's a cute, sweet story. Like really, it's relaxing and light. So refreshing, it will make you fall in love~
I mentioned in my review of Breakable that I am not particularly a fan of second-books retold from another POV. I still stand by what I said. However, I do understand where the temptation for the writer lies in wanting to narrate through another character. And who am I to control what the writer wants?!!
What's different with this retelling is that Hunter wasn't acting all stalker-y, he was just a guy pining over a girl. He did have some dirty thoughts, what guy doesn't?!! but he was amusing for the most part. I did find his , admirable. He did the right thing despite it not serving him at the beginning. But he again was willing to fight for her once he had her.
are my favorite. Shelly's writing style was really amazing and delivered each feeling on point.
Ryan is adorable and the story is so much better through his eyes!
Things are a lot more complicated than we knew from Liza's version of the story, with Ryan being in love with her for years and pining for her while he watched her with one of his best friends. Their romance gets a lot more substance and depth now and we even get to see what happens after the end of the events of Play With Me.
I am not sure if a boy his age would think and feel the way he did, but he was perfect and I loved reading his story!
There is another book in the series about Tony, T is For He's a Total Jerk..., but I'm not sure if I want to read it since I don't think I'll like him as much as I like Ryan...
I wouldn't recommend this as a stand alone - if this book looks interesting to you, you should definitely read Play With Me first. In this book Liza has zero character development and you'll wonder what the hell Ryan sees in her other than her hot body and "apple green eyes" (btw, I was gagging after the 3rd or 4th reference to that, blah, too much). But if you read the first book first, you'll see that there's much more to Liza than that, and will also appreciate Ryan's perspective more. On the other hand, a lot of the scenes in this book are exactly the same as from the first book, just from Ryan's POV and many times, I just didn't feel like they held enough new insights to make it not feel totally redundant.
Bottom line is, this was, as expected, a cute read -- but it wasn't as good as the first and I probably could have done without it.
I love Ryan's thoughts! He's funny most of the time, sometimes he's got a little dirty mind. Fine, I admit, it's not really sometimes and little. Hahaha! Anyway, I like this book more from the first one, it made me love the series more! I can't believe that he likes Liza for a very long time, and not do anything about it sooner. I know, Tony is such a hindrance. Ugh, I still want more from this story.
I also can't wait for Tony's own story! He definitely deserves his own happy ever after. Yes, it was somehow his fault for losing Liza, but admit it that they are not really meant for each other. I think he already learned from his mistakes and I hope he will not become a tough guy. I want him to remain as the sweet guy. I really really like him. ;)
This book was originally published under the author name Piper Shelly, but I have since learned its changed to Anna Katmore. So I put them both down as authors.
Ok, so my Lenore told me if I liked Play with Me (Which I LOVED) then I would like Ryan Hunter more. Which…..I didn’t.
Now don’t get me wrong, I liked the story, just not more than Play with Me. I found Ryan to be a bit shallow. He was a bit too obsessive in this book about Liza. And I found his pining away after her to be a bit pathetic. Especially cause he waited so long to do anything about it.
And while he seemed to like her I never really felt it went past physical attraction. He never talked about her dreams or her hopes or what he admired about her. He really only talked to her but never really seemed to listen. It was mostly about how she looked, which I found to be a turn off.
All in all the story was the same as the first one but Ryan’s character was not up to par with Liza’s in my opinion. She had more depth and it kinda soured their relationship for me. She can do better I guess is what I’m really trying to say.
Empfehlenswert!
Play with Me is a novella told from Liza's POV. Ryan Hunters story This Girl is Mine is the story written from his POV.
I love, love, love Ryan Hunter even more after reading his side of the story. I think Hunter is a really likeable character. The chemistry between Liza and Hunter is sweet and steamy. I am so glad that Piper Shelly decided to write Play with Me from Hunter's POV. Ryan deserved to have his side of the story told. I was smiling when I was reading the story because it is just so sweet. I really like that the characters do not have tragic pasts in this story. Every once in a while it is nice to read a story that is not so heavy. Do not get me wrong, there are many great stories that have that "tragic" element to them. However, it is nice that the characters are not traumatized in this story.
I think Hunter was a really good friend. Several times Hunter warned Tony about Cloey. Also, Hunter told Tony that Liza was in love with him and that she was the better choice. All of that could have cost Hunter any hope of a chance with Liza. Still Ryan chose to give Tony sage advice for Liza's sake and for Tony's sake. Hunter was in love with Liza since third grade. He never made a move on her because he was loyal to Tony. Hunter gave Tony ample opportunity to choose Liza. Also, Hunter could have thrown Tony under the bus but he chose not to take that path. There were times when Tony tried to speak for Liza but Hunter let Liza speak for herself. I am so glad that Hunter ended up getting the girl in the end. Hunter was worthy of Liza and would never take her for granted.
"The day I had first seen Liza Matthews, I tripped over the soccer ball and landed face first in the dirt. She always made me forget about anything else around me." ~ Ryan Hunter.
Tony ticked me off a little more in this book than in Play with Me. The reader gets to hear conversation with Tony in this book that were only alluded to in Play with Me. I did not like that Tony kind of told the whole soccer team that Hunter came onto Liza. He made it seem like Hunter was a creep. I know he was just jealous and in denial (that Liza could actually love someone other than him). Tony just was not thinking with his head half the time. In the end, he came to his senses. Tony made up for some stuff with the nice text to Ryan. It was nice that Ryan and Tony patched things up because it would have been a shame to lose that friendship. If Tony had not made the poor choices that he did then, Hunter might not have had his chance with Liza. It all worked out in the end.
I really liked Hunter's interactions with Susan Miller aka "book lover". I would not mind reading a story about her. Also, I liked Hunter's best friend Justin. Justin was the only one who knew that Hunter like Liza since third grade. I was happy that there was scene where Liza met Hunter's parents. It was mentioned in Play with Me but not shown. I really liked the added epilogue. When I was nearing the end of the book, I did not want it to end. Luckily, there will be some more of Liza and Hunter in Tony's book. I can't wait until Tony's book is released. His love interest Sam seems like a great girl.
'cause I like me some currently hype music, I'm going to start this review by inserting the lyrics of a 98 Degrees' song entitled, Invisible Man.Yes. A 98 Degrees song.
The song goes something like this:
♪♪I wish you'd look at me that way Your beautiful eyes looking deep into mine Telling me more than any words could say But you don't even know I'm alive Baby, to you all I am is the invisible man Oh, you don't see me baby♫♫
THE SONG/BLURB Invisible Man by 98 Degrees is a pretty much a straight forward song. No it's not about an invisible guy who likes to play rock, paper, scissors. Work with me here. I just liked that GIF but can you just ignore it for a bit? Yeah. Thank you! Where was I? Okaaaay... It's about a guy who likes a girl. The sad part is, the girl is in love with someone else, which is why she never noticed the guy who likes her.
Much like Ryan's life.
I'm sorry I can't add more 'cause this book is practically PLAY WITH ME, only with a different POV. You see, And this one is Ryan Hunter's. Shocker? Just read the creative title.
Also, 98 Degrees rock!
3 STARS See that rating? Yeah. I liked this one better. It has bonus scenes and an epilogue. I'm not even going to question why Ryan has a crush on Liza. I'm not one to pass judgment. Na-uh. Not going there. No no. Hey, teenagers are just weird like that. Seriously, though he knew her for years, they never exchanged a single word. Not. A. Single. Word. Then a few days after they have actually interacted... he's in love? What does that smell? TRUE LOVE! But at least he's not missin' out unlike our buddy Tony, so plus points for him!
Yeah.
So why the 3 stars? 3 stars 'cause I'm in a good mood today. And like to give 3 stars just because I can. It also doesn't hurt that I got to see Ryan's relationship with his parents. I mean, his and Liza's. And it was very refreshing to see a main character who doesn't scream teenage-angst. For once, his family wasn't the main reason why he doesn't commit to a relationship. So thank you, Piper Shelly!
OVERALL This book is cute in that whole kind of way.
I enjoyed the ride more than the actual destination. One short, but sweet ride.
