Harper and Alex both think they want a simple one night stand -- she to live out a fantasy, he because he doesn't do anything long term. But neither can forget each other and when he pursues her, the sparks do fly. Harper is sassy, submissive, and apparently masochistic. Alex is all Dom and knows just what to do with her.

I really enjoyed the book. The character interactions are great. The sex is great. Both characters have some significant backstory that is mostly hinted at, rather than thoroughly developed, but I'm hoping for more of it in the second book. From what happens here, it seems to me that we will be needing those backstories. I have a couple of issues with mention of an event that apparently happened before the book started and is referred to as if the reader should know something about it already, but that's relatively minor. We do get the general gist of why it's important.

This book is the first half of their story, to be continued (I hope) in July, because this ends on a significant cliffhanger, so if that bothers you, wait until the second book comes out before you start this one.

Oh, this had lots of murkiness going on right below the surface. What is not hidden in any way is the sizzling attraction between Harper and Alex, that is there everytime they get anywhere near each other. They are hot together, and while Harper is going with the flow, even when she thinks she should stop, Alex is acting on pure instinct. His instincts tell him Harper is his, so he does what he needs to do to make her his. He isn't upfront on what he does for a living. She isn't truthful with him on her past. We end on a cliffhanger where her past catches up to her, and I need to know what happens in part two right now!

Book one in two book series, I knew this before reading so I didn't mind the cliffhanger ending. I am looking forward to reading book two! Harper is running from her past and doesn't have time for relationships. Alex is used to getting exactly what he wants and doesn't usually want someone more than one night. Harper catches his attention and he is surprised by her and his reaction to her. Harper is interested in Alex but she is unsure if she can be what he needs, or if she can even fit into his lifestyle. There are some misunderstandings and lack of communication before the cliffhanger ending.....

I enjoyed Alex & Harper & how their relationship started but heck what a life she had prior to moving to N.Y.
Hated being left on a cliff hanger but at least we don't have to wait too long for what will happen next between the 2 of them & if the men who took Harper away really who they say they are & if not we'll Alex be able to get to her????

Oh Alex.... You met a woman who is innocent but with backbone. She has not made it easy on you and therefore you want it even more. You made her fantasy come true and secured a place in her heart but you could not handle it. You both thought it would be a one night stand but life throws you curveballs.

This is a great book, I very much enjoyed reading it. It does have a cliffhanger, but I was hooked from the first couple of pages.

Alex for a lack of a better word is very yummy.

The first book in the duet definitely captures your attention.

We are introduced to the main characters, Alex and Harper. Harper is a baker and provides a catering service. At one of her jobs is where Alex see's Harper and that is how their story begins. Throughout the story, E.M. Gayle gives us glimpses of Harper's past but does not reveal everything. There is more going on than we know and it promises to pique our interest. Yet, it gives us an idea of who Harper is and how that has led to where she is at in her life at the moment.

Learning about Alex is mind boggling. His dominant nature seems to carry over into all parts of his life. Not just with women but his business and other areas of his life not revealed at this time. Oh, the author teases us with his stamina and compulsive need when it comes to Harper but there is something lying deeper. The two characters together heat up the pages but there is so much more going on that we have yet to learn. And just when things start getting to the point where you're on the edge of your seat....waiting for the acme to peak.....we have a cliff hanger. Don't get me wrong, it's the perfect point to have us holding our breaths and since I'm sure that was her goal.....she more than accomplished it.
I have loyally followed E.M.Gayle through the Purgatory Club and Purgatory Masters series and couldn't wait to get my hand on What Alex Wants....He Gets. Once again she has out done herself with characters that get inside your head and find a way into your heart.

When Alex pursues Harper, neither has any idea what it will do to their lives. Their chemistry is palpable and sizzling hot. Harper is unsure she can, or wants to, be what Alex needs and wants. Will she push him away or give him her submission? For such a dominant man, Alex is surprisingly caring and sweet. This is no sadistic Dom, but he is very sure of what and who he wants - Harper.

I can't wait for the second installment of this sexy, entertaining story!

WOW....just WOW. I started this book in the evening after work and COULD NOT STOP. These 2 have more secrets than a magician. Both only wanted one night to scratch that itch....but it turns into more, except they both are keeping secrets from each other. I love this book...and cannot wait to see what happens next...what secrets are going to come out, how they will feel about those secrets.

The story was more than I expected. There's BDSM yes, but it's much more than that.

Alex's instant attraction to Harper is something I've read about before, so is the insta-lust. Harper's response to Alex was also expected but I'm really intrigued by Harper's history.

There are snippets here and there of her past, and Alex is still a mystery.

There's a brief MFM scene and most of the steamy scenes are written beautifully. There's really chemistry between Harper and Alex since she's a natural sub and he's a Dom.

I can't wait for the next. The only spoiler I'm going to give is that this one has a cliffhanger.

What starts with a steamy Valentine's Day rendezvous starts to become so much more. You can always count on E.M. Gayle to deliver one heck of a sexy ride with enough emotional connection to make it seem real, and Alex and Harper's story is no different--I was rooting for them from the beginning. That said, the story just felt more forced than I expect from E.M. Gayle. It's still a solidly enjoyable three star read, but definitely of the quick-and-dirty kind (I read it in one sitting!). This IS part one in a duet, so know that things end on a cliffhanger.

Great start

A woman running from her past,who is determined to make a life for herself,gets a invite for a decadent date with a mysterious man. Alex is determined to get the beautiful Harper at any cost.

This was a great start to this Duet it was sexy ,fun and that ending ! Can’t wait to see where the story goes!

This is the first book in a duet and certainly had me intrigued from start to finish. I can honestly say I cannot wait for the final instalment. From my part, I definitely didn’t see the cliffhanger coming the way it did, and look forward to what happens next as the story unfolds. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this book.

Harper came to New York for the anonymity of the city and preferred to keep it that way. With the past now behind her, she has to keep looking forward, no matter what. Running a successful kitchen for her best friend Zia, and recently adding private catering to her repertoire, means Harper has no time for a personal life. So why would someone send her an anonymous invitation and a unique gift on Valentine’s Day for a night of fantasy? Unbeknown to Harper her previous visit to the Glass Kat hadn’t gone unnoticed, nor did her obvious reaction to the collaring ceremony. For Harper, the scene had brought back old memories; when she had been introduced to a whole new world, but something she never even knew existed. Revisiting the past did nothing but make Harper feel sad; it also didn’t explain why someone would send her such an intimate gift. Harper doubts anyone is watching her too closely; it had been a long time since she had run, but she cannot afford to get too complacent. Zia dares Harper to accept the invitation; dare or not, going to the Glass Kat is a pretty impulsive decision for her; can she be what Alex wants. Alex had noticed Harper at the Glass Kat the previous week and had watched her intently; he recognized need when he saw it, so with Jeremy’s help he sets a plan in motion, not realizing he has underestimated Harper’s allure. Alex would offer Harper everything she desired and then some; he didn’t understand how or why he felt like he did, but nothing short of her complete submission to both their desires was going to work for him now. Alex had recognized something in Harper and it reached for that something in him; she would be his. What had started out as a distraction has now morphed into something much more; why or how she was different made no sense to him. Until Alex had seen Harper that first time at the Glass Kat, he hadn’t understood why his stepbrother Ronin had been so obsessed with finding her. Getting involved with someone from Ronin’s past may be a mistake; he had set aside rational thought when he got involved with Harper and this could put others in jeopardy. Alex wants to know everything about Harper, but there are two things that puzzle him about her profile. Alex insists Harper needs to take her safety seriously, but a less than cordial conversation only serves to pull the two apart. Now it is time for Harper to make a difficult decision. While contemplating what she has to do next, Harper is suddenly confronted by her past. It is too late; she has screwed up again. Harper Allison had a past that she ran from, and even before that, she had a history that had made her curious. But she also had a future. Now after over a year since her divorce, a year of culinary school, and swearing off men, she had a job at her best friend’s bakery. But then, she also received a gift from someone anonymous on this Valentine’s day. It looked like a box of roses, but the card told her it was from someone at the Glass Cat, a private sex club where she had catered the dessert service a week ago, and now Harper had an invitation for fantasies to be fulfilled tonight. Inside the box was not a bunch of roses but one rose, if you wanted to call it that. It was made of red leather and attached to a riding crop. Now she had a choice, to accept the alluring invitation or not.

While the world-building was vague here and there, the character interaction was done well. However, the character histories seemed to be lacking a little, but those flashbacks helped.

If you like romance stories with some BDSM and hot action with lots of adventurous exploring, you might like this first book of two. I give this erotic read five stars out of five stars.

This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up of hers. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. I love being pulled into the story by the characters. This book is no different. This is a well written story where the author's use of details gave the story a realistic feel. The characters are creative, unique and relateable. I enjoyed how the brought the story to life and kept it engaging. This is a story about Harper and Alex. One invitation and steamy sex turn into something neither one of them seen coming. They have great chemistry and growth throughout the story. They are my favorite and enjoyed what they brought to the story. This is the first book in this series and I can't wait to read the second book. This is a must read story and I highly recommend it.

Great Read I really enjoyed the story of Alex and Harper. Her life is totally consumed by her business, with no love life, she really needs something to shake up her life. When she caters an event at The Glass Kat she is noticed by Alex, who has actually been searching in vain for her for years. She triggers something in him he can't control. A need he has never had before. A good read with BDSM elements and a cliffhanger ending which I removed one star for. If you love E.M.Gayle like I do you will want to read this hopefully we won't have to wait long for the conclusion.

Not, what I expected. Great well written steamy and enjoyable book. I like the new approach to the theme. The characters are likeable and well described. They have a great chemistry.
I like the intensy and darkness it has. It is written in dual POV which also gives the reader a lot more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters and that results in the reader getting a lot more out of the story.
The mix of drama, unexpected twists, amazing chemistry, passion, and love keeps the reader on the edge. It is captivating and enjoyable.

'Merciless Sinner' is book one in E. M. Gayle's "Mafia Mayhem" Duet. What an exhilarating story this one has turned out to be! A tragic backstory, a new beginning, a mobster's stepson, a cop, a new beginning, and a chemistry between the Hero and heroine that becomes all-consuming. There was no way once I started reading that I could put this down until it was finished and now I desperately want to know the outcome of the cliffhanger and all the open-ended situations. If you want more than just a book that contains erotic scenes and a hint of the dark, this one has substance with a bite.

I enjoyed this book and can't wait for the second one. I knew it would be a cliffhanger-- bonus points for it happening not quite as I anticipated. My only dislike about the book was Zia-- she doesn't seem like a good friend. For example, in that opening scene, I bet she had the skills to decorate those cupcakes, but she doesn't help. Maybe she will redeem herself in the next book? (All I ask is that she doesn't have a spinoff duet in which she ends up with Alex's friend.

This is the first book in this duet by this author. This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. A very well written story with amazing characters. The story flows perfectly throughout. I can't wait to read more in this duet and by this author in the future.

Loving this story....

An attraction so strong it takes your breath.. A great storyline and the chemistry between these characters, you can feel it rolling off the pages. Things are heating up in more ways than one. But some truths haven't been told, some secrets haven't been revealed.. can the past come back and take everything away? Attention grabber from the start and now on to book 2.

This is a great read and gives you a very good insight into the dominant/submissive relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed this first book and loved getting to know the main characters, Alex and Harper. Definitely recommend this book and I'm looking forward to the second book for the conclusion of their story.
