So dang good!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One thing I appreciate about this author's stories is that although she writes books in a series, all her stories are also standalone books. I read so many books that sometimes I forget characters names or all of the details that occurred in the series.
However, this author takes the time to create the stories in such a way that you receive the interaction of others in series and are able to enjoy the book to the fullest.
This story! Oh my goodness.
The first thing I have to say is this story is off the charts on the heat factor. The connection and the depth of feelings between the two, good and bad, are what makes this book.
The story is heavier on the romance and not as heavy on the suspense portion we normally get from Ms. Jones. And personally I have no issue with that since the passion and the sexiness is amazing.
Reid is also amazing and I really love how he supported, protected, and took care of Carrie. While he can be abrupt and overbearing, he can also be giving, tender, and kind. Hot!
This book is an obsession. Actually the whole series is an obsession and not one that I’m willing to give up anytime soon. The author is one of my favorites and I can’t read to wait to read the next in the series. Bring it!
This was a wonderful enemies to lovers, boss/employee romance that solidified that this author really knows how to check my boxes for perfect heroes. There was so much antagonism between this couple laced with a sizzling chemistry my kindle threatened to combust. With plenty of push and pull along with a hostile takeover of both the financial and sexual kind I was completely engrossed in this story. It’s a lengthy book and yet I refused to put it down and actually set my phone on “talk back” so I could read/listen when I was forced to get up from my sofa.
Carrie was strong and independent but had made a mistake years ago that made her doubt her full capabilities in business. Reid has executed a hostile takeover of her father’s company and now refuses to take any of her calls. In an effort to prove that he is still human, she succeeds in tricking him to face her and she does so in freaking awesome style!
Reid is in instant lust with the woman in the emerald dress and falls easily into her trap only then concocting new plans for her father’s company. He’s going to get the girl for the night and then he’s going to set this company to rights.
I loved how Carries stood up to Reid at every turn. Despite being intimidated by him at times, she was feisty and confident when squaring off with him, never allowing him to see her sweat. While she was a tough heroine, she was not hard core. She had a softer side to her and that contradiction only ensnared Reid more.
Reid was an incredible alpha-hole. Everyone knows he’s a complete jerk and he uses it to his advantage. And yet the more time he spends with Carrie the more we see another side to him. His point of view was perfect in allowing the reader to understand his thought processes. I do love the taming of an alpha-hole and Carrie brought this one to his knees in stunning fashion.
This story is filled with twists and turns and so many secrets!!! Trust is a major issue between this couple and their struggle with it ratcheted up the angst level for me. Nevertheless, this couple’s dynamic was perfection! They lit up the page with both their hate, their struggles, their passion and their love. There was nothing in this story I didn’t enjoy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The push and pull between these characters was insane, hate sex never seemed so hot, and calling this an enemies-to-lovers story would be a bit of an understatement.
Carrie was fierce and striving for some independence and stability, especially after her father put the future of their company in jeopardy. Reid happened to be the one behind the hostile takeover of her company and became her enemy by default. While everything in her told her to fight him, to turn against him, to not trust him, she couldn't help herself and pretty soon Reid became the only person she could trust.
Reid was arrogant, dominant, and his very presence could fill a room. He didn't do attachments and he sure as hell didn't do feelings. But he quickly found out that when it came to Carrie, all of his shall nots quickly became his shalls. He couldn't stay away from her or treat their arrangement as strictly business. Their intimacy continued to grow and this strong, alpha hero began to change right before my eyes. He was still just as strong and still just as alpha, but he also opened up his heart to the love that was blossoming between them.
This couple had their share of struggles. They not only had to fight each other and their growing attraction, but their fathers are bitter enemies. While trying to build trust between them, to work as a team, Reid was keeping one massive secret from Carrie, one that could rip apart their delicate love before they could even enjoy it. Although this story could be read as a standalone, I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, Dirty Rich Betrayal, to see if I could get more of them together!
Talk about a battle of wills! Enemies to lovers has never been so apt.
Carrie West is willing to do anything to get Reid Maxwell's attention after finding out his family firm has done a hostile takeover of her fathers company. Boy did she get his attention.
Reid is in new territory where Carrie is concerned. He's used to satisfying his attractions and moving on, but Carrie just won't let that happen. The problem is there is a debt between both families that she doesn't know about. If she learns it, Reid will have no choice but to let her go.
The chemistry between these two was crazy addictive. I almost didn't want them to get past the anger, it was so hot. Once Reese finally convinces Carrie he's not her enemy, I liked them together just as much as their fighting.
You don't know the details of the debt for most of the book. Reid truly believes Carrie won't want him after she finds out. I was curious how he was going to overcome it even when I didn't know what it was. The hatred between both their fathers and how much they were against Reid and Carrie being together had me just as curious.
I like that the author kept me guessing despite being worried about not liking the revelation. This ends on a happily for now, but there is more to tell. The second half of their story will be out January 2nd.
Reid is a lawyer.
Carrie is the daughter of a man whose company Reid bought.
Carrie hates Reid. So much.
Reid is intrigued. But he doesn't do romance and he also can never tell her the truth about what happened with her father and his father and the business.
But he can't also not just leave her running the broken company or just fire her.
He'll help her run the company until she's back on her feet again ...
description
She hates him. He wants her. She wants him too but can't admit it.
LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN!!! ☺
description
Well, that was adorable!
A fun & exciting & really sexy lawyer/business romance!
There's this huge insta attraction between them, but also all that hate and the past and business and fathers and ... so much to overcome. But we love watching them fight and fight some more. With or without clothes! So much fun for the reader.
But just like the first books in this series, this one was way too long for me. There's too much back and forth between Reid and Carrie. She hates him, he only wants to 'intimate relationship' her out of his system. Multiple times. She does too. Then not. Then yes. No. Yes. Let's do it. Again. No. Arguing. Fighting. Yelling. IntimAte Relations. Again. No. Yes. Yesss! No. Never again. Hate you. Hate you too. Secrets. No. Yes. Mystery. Yesss! More. No. No, I don't. Yessss! No. UGH!!!!! A few hundred pages less would've been better. It was just too long - and that made me hate everything about the book along the way ....
BUT ... I also really liked reading it - I liked all the characters and the story. It was definitely not bad. It's a LRJ book, so you know it's great, but it was just too long!
But I also can't wait to get my hands on the next book!!!! ☺
DIRTY RICH OBSESSION was a very adorable & exciting & erotic lawyer/business/office/enemies-to-lovers romance!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Reid - this one is MINE!!!☺
Counting this as one of the most asinine ways to start a book ever. Heroine obvi hates the hero because he doesnt know who she is but she cant help but be a puddle of moans and wimpers because the hero is just sooooo hawtttt.
Give me a freaking break.
And another thing. How about authors stop giving heroine lame as FUCK comebacks.
Every book ever.
*Hero says something cocky/arrogant.*
Heroine: "Omg you're such an asshole."
Hero: lol thanks
Is anyone else sick of this? Calling someone an asshole is probably the lamest excuse for an insult in the history of ever. Lets 👏 at 👏 least 👏 try 👏 to 👏 be 👏 original.
Dirty Rich Obsession by Lisa Renee Jones is a sexy addictive insatiable push/pull romance!! This book took sexual chemistry to a whole new level as Carrie West and Reid Maxwell were two characters who weren’t meant to fall for each other but soon learns obsession, lust, and love was something that couldn’t be denied.
1
Reid Maxwell bought Carrie’s father’s company. She hates him. He is intrigued. He doesn’t do romance but there is something about her that draws him to her. As these two fight their sexual attraction, what happens when Reid realizes that he doesn’t want to lose her if she were able to discover his secret?
So if you are looking for a sexy, intriguing, and passionate read that will keep you riveted then Dirty Rich Obsession is a must read. Lisa Renee Jones does a terrific job showcasing her characters attraction and individuality. As always, the writing was on point as it highlighted raw emotions and at that same time intensity.
3 Stars
Grrrr. Honestly, once I got closer and closer to the end, I did not now exactly how much I liked/disliked this or what I would rate it. I will default this to 3 stars. There were some things I really enjoyed and some things I did not.
The Good: Reid and Carrie are good MCs. I liked them. I wanted them to be together. Their chemistry and steamy times were hot AF. Long story short, I connected to them and was invested in them. The plot was busy, but it all kept me intrigued. I think all of it played well into each other and had me turning that page to get to the end.
The Not-So-Good: I had two issues with this. 1 - Carrie. I know, I know, I said it had good MCs. And it does, BUT, Carrie was a little frustrating. Her as woman was fierce, independent, intelligent, successful, sassy, etc. You name it, she had it. However, throw all that out in regards to her thoughts to Reid. She was plagued with self-doubt, insecurity, etc. And just personally, I wish she could've remained the badass I knew she was 100% of the time. She gets there in the end, but it was not without some frustration on my reading experience end.
2 - The tell vs. show that went down. Enemies-to-lovers trope MAY be my all time favorite. Definitely top three. And this story here had the goods because you have two characters that can really go head-to-head. The issues between Reid and Carrie are two-fold: their push & pull as individuals and the greater animosity of their families towards one another.
This push & pull is next level. Carrie thinks Reid is an asshole. Both try to battle for control (in the bedroom and professional world.) Neither know whether they hate each other or can trust each other.
Those 4 underlined words appear a combined total of 482 times (yes, I looked it up because I was like, wow, these words sure appear a lot). This book is 387 pages. So one of those words is appearing at least once every page you read. This is the literal definition of all tell and no show. This back-and-forth game of theirs was relentlessly hammered upon.
But honestly, I liked this couple enough and the overall potential of the story, that I'm not incredibly annoyed by it. But, yeah, the author lacked total subtlety on this enemies-to-lovers thing.
Last thought: This book is 387 pages. It's long. And the author mentioned at the end that this couple would get another book. I find that unnecessary. Sure, this definitely needed an epilogue, IMO. Further investigation revealed that all the couples are getting a second book. Again, I think everyone's story so far came to a close.
Would I recommend? TBD. Again, I feel unsatisfied by the ending because of no epilogue, but still don't believe that each main couple needs another book. Especially given how long these are.
Reid tells his woman like it is , "he halts in front of me, that earthy scent of him tantalizing, even when I don’t want it to be. “No one but you will end up on my desk.” Reid is all about compromise, "his lips quirk. “You talk. I’ll eff uou while you do it.” He takes my hand and starts walking." I really liked this book, I loved Reid the man came across a grizzly but he was really a teddy bear when it came to his woman.
Meinung:
Vielen Dank an den Verlag für das Rezensionsexemplar!
„Sie sind ein echter Dreckskerl, Reid Maxwell.“
Das Cover hat ein bisschen was von Shades of Grey, wahrscheinlich ist es mir auch gleich dadurch aufgefallen. Es strahlt schon Erotik aus, was vor allem an der Farbgebung liegt. Ich finde es wirklich gut gestaltet, auch wenn man daraus nicht viel erkennen kann, bezogen auf den Inhalt.
Der Schreibstil der Autorin war gut und flüssig zu lesen, auch wenn mir das Wort „Arschloch“ zu oft vorgekommen ist. Wirklich, es stand fast auf jeder Seite und das hat mich dann doch ziemlich gestört. Ich mochte es, dass man aus Sicht von Reid und Carrie liest, dadurch kann man beide Charaktere besser kennen lernen.
Zu Beginn lernt man Reid und Carrie kennen, die nun zusammen arbeiten müssen. Schon sehr früh beginnen die Funken zu sprühen und man weiß, auf was das hinauslaufen wird.
Das Buch hätte so gut werden können. Der Einstieg hat mir super gefallen, man liest sozusagen von dem ersten Treffen von Carrie und Reid und das ist alles andere als unschuldig. Für mich war der Einstieg wirklich gelungen, da man sofort merkt, dass die Chemie zwischen den beiden Charakteren einfach passt und dabei auch eine witzige Szene im Vordergrund steht. Ich freute mich also riesig auf den Rest der Geschichte, einzig die hohe Seitenanzahl hat mir etwas Sorgen bereitet, die nicht ganz unbegründet waren.
Das Buch hat fast 500 Seiten, was für einen Roman aus dem Genre eigentlich recht viel ist. Wenn es eine tolle Story gibt, dann ist das auch kein Problem, aber bei diesem Buch hat mir einfach etwas gefehlt. Es fühlte sich an wie eine Aneinanderreihung von Sex, in jeder erdenlicken Position und irgendwann hat es sich einfach zu sehr wiederholt und mich gelangweilt. Ich hatte im Mittelteil einen wirklichen Durchhänger und habe gehofft, dass das Buch bald aus ist. Es wurde gegen Ende aber noch viel besser, da dann einiges an Story und Drama dazu kam. In den ersten 300 Seiten ist es eigentlich nur ein Hin und Her zwischen Reid und Carrie, gepaart mit ganz viel Sex und ein bisschen Leiten der Firma.
Die Story selbst ist auch gar nicht neu, zwei verfeindete Familien, bei denen sich eigentlich nur die Väter hassen, die Kinder müssen zusammen arbeiten und kommen dann auch zusammen. Es gab eigentlich nichts, dass sich mir wirklich ins Gedächtnis gebrannt hätte, die Charaktere kennt man so schon, man weiß, was passiert und es gibt keine großen Überraschungen. Wer also einen erotischen Roman zum abschalten sucht ist hier richtig, aber wer etwas sucht, dass im Gedächtnis bleibt, der ist hier definitv falsch.
Carrie mochte ich hingegen recht gern. Sie lässt sich nicht von Reid unterkriegen, sagt ihm was Sache ist und zieht ihr Ding durch. Natürlich dreht sie auch an und an ziemlich durch, was vor allem am Ende der Fall ist, aber das sollte sicher ein wenig Drama ins Buch bringen, denn ansonsten ist Carrie zeimlich professionel und arbeitet für das, was sie will.
Reid ist austauschbar. Das fällt mir als erstes zu ihm ein. Er hat einen Vater, der sich nicht um seine Kinder kümmert, wenig Kontakt mit seiner Schwester, ist erfolgreich und arrogant, stinkreich, und ein Arschloch. Was, wie schon gesagt, auf jeder Seite, auch vor Geschäftspartner, erwähnt wird. Ich wollte es schon nicht mehr lesen, eine Rezensentin auf Amazon hat geschrieben, dass sie das Wort 42 Mal gelesen hat, bevor sie das Buch abgebrochen hat. Und das ist erst am Anfang so. Ich fand es ebenfalls übertrieben und wollte es schon nicht mehr lesen, dass man das so oft betonen muss. Auf jeden Fall könnte er jeder beliebige Kerl sein, denn ich kann ihn nicht einschätzen, weiß einfach zu wenig von seiner Persönlichkeit um ihm nahe zu sein. Ich mochte ihn auch nicht sonderlich, obwohl er Carrie gegenüber nichts Schlimmes tut.
Ebenso austauschbar waren die Nebencharaktere, die keinen Raum bekamen. Sie waren eben da und haben hin und wieder was zum Fortgang der Handlung beigetragen, haben ein bisschen Drama gebracht, aber an sich hätte das Buch auch mit der Hälfte der Personen funktioniert. Keine von ihnen ist mir im Gedächtnis geblieben.
Gefallen hat mir aber das Ende. Ich weiß zwar immer noch nicht, was die Firma von Carrie genau macht und wieso Reid da jetzt Geschäftsführer ist (dazu kenn ich mich in der Anwaltswelt zu wenig aus), aber es gab dann noch ein paar spannende Enthüllungen, die mich wirklich überrascht haben. Das Drama passte auch, obwohl es ein wenig übertrieben dargestellt wurde. Ich verstand die Zweifel von Carrie, denn ich hätte die bei einem Kerl wie Reid auch. Auch die Geschichte mit ihren beiden Vätern war wirklich klasse, aber es ware eben alles so am Ende zusammen gebauscht. Hätte man all das etwas mehr über das Buch verteilt, hätte sich die Spannung gehalten und es wäre nicht immer nur um das Gleiche gegangen.
Fazit:
Ich habe mich so auf das Buch gefreut und mir einen tollen Erotikroman erwartet, aber leider wurden meine Erwartungen nicht erfüllt. Es war einerseits zu lang und dann auch zu vorhersehbar. Mich hat es dann schon genervt, dass sie alle zwei Seiten Sex hatten, ich wollte einfach mehr Story haben. Die wurde dann am Ende zusammen gepfercht. Das konnte zwar den Schluss retten, aber das Buch ingesamt war dann eher doch nichts. Ich vergebe 2 Sterne.
Overall book:
* Interesting how Hero and Heroine meet.
* insta attraction
* however both are unwilling to act or follow their feelings for something more than one night. This drags on for quite awhile.
* hero kept a secret that drags almost towards the end of the book
Dirty Rich Obsession features Reid Maxwell, part of the Maxwell empire we were introduced to in Dirty Rich One Night Stand. Oldest of the siblings, Reid carries a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders and burdens no son should have to bear for their parent.
Caught in a family war much like Romeo and Juliet, Reid and Carrie are forced to work side-by-side in order to rebuild both of their companies reputations which have been dragged through the mud by both their fathers. Power corrupts and all of that jazz 😉. However, neither Reid nor Carrie are prepared for the intense chemistry that sparks between them.
Blindsided by their emotions, they struggle to understand the relationships that is growing between them. Unfortunately, their family situations and hidden secrets add to the tension between them and the inevitable heartbreak they are sure is bound to follow.
Although no-one expected just how deeply and how quickly Reid and Carrie fall for each other. Raw honesty where able allows them to build a foundation of faith, so when that faith is tested they have a clear understanding of each other. I loved how together, Reid and Carrie, are both better people. Especially how seamlessly Carrie fits into Reid's family (by that I mean his siblings) and aids him in building bridges with his sister, Cat.
While there is an undertone of deceit within Dirty Rich Obsession, the story and relationship between Reid and Carrie is far sweeter than anticipated. Looking for some sugar to go with your spice - Dirty Rich Obsession has an abundance of both.
Another Dirty book that was scorching hot!! Carrie and Reid chemistry was off the chain hot even though they danced around several times. They were infuriating, lol. Well she was more than him. He was all arrogant, gorgeous, alpha, etc etc..... and the way they met?!?! Priceless......
These two were not suppose to be together. There were soooooooooo many issues and secrets along with incidents that doesn’t allow these two to be together but the heart wants what the heart wants. Reid couldn’t help it and wanted to protect Carrie fiercely from everything. Carrie after giving in to Reid wanted to trust him in everything but had trust issues thanks to her dad and her brother. She was left in the dark with lots of things which hurt her because she saw her dad as her hero but Reid wasn’t letting anyone hurt her.
The ending, for now, got me a little worried but good thing it was clarified. I liked what Carrie brought out in Reid and vice versa. She changed lots of things in his life with his siblings especially that made me like her even more.
I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series that keeps getting more and more exciting.
carrie west is a headstrong, awesome and tough woman. reid maxwell is the guy that kept ignoring her calls, so she decided to take things into her own hands, and handcuffed this cocky man to the bed. they challenged each other especially with brilliant retorts and sassy comebacks. carrie prompted reid to face his issues with his sister, while reid encouraged carrie to be more firm in her decisions.
surrounding them, there are the enemies to lovers and workplace romance tropes. i don’t think i’ll ever get bored of this combination because the sexual tension between reid and carrie is sinful as heck. a secret brought carrie and reid into each other’s lives. something that runs deeper than the two of them. family drama is involved and carrie doesn’t know anything. i liked the premise of their story, and the characters are well-developed. there’s an obvious change in how they attempted things in their life.
Dirty Rich Obsession by Lisa Renee Jones is book Three in the Dirty Rich series. This is the story of Reid Maxwell and Carrie West. I have read the other books (and Loved them!) in this series but feel this can be a standalone book if you choose to do so.
This book draws you in very quickly and you won't be able to put it down. Reid and Carrie's fathers are business enemies but there is also a secret that Reid can't reveal.
Reid is the ultimate hard, sexy business man who doesn't let much come between him and his goals...but there is something about Carrie. Carrie is a strong women who usually stands very strong but there is something about Reid that has her in knots.
This has been a wonderful series... I love Ms. Jones's writing and cannot wait for the next book to come out. Loved this one for sure!
I made the mistake of starting this book at about eleven at night. I was completely mesmerized. I couldn’t put it down. Finally, at five thirty in the morning, eyes burning, I finished. It was well worth my exhaustion today.
Secrets and lies. Romance and excitement. This might be my favorite of the series. There were so many layers to the story, keeping it fast paced and gripping. In addition to the storyline, the chemistry between Reid and Carrie was off the charts. The build of their relationship was captivating and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out.
I love seeing all of the upcoming books that Jones has planned for this series. She keeps introducing us to intriguing characters who are begging to have their stories told. I also love the addition of some of our favorite characters from past books and other series. She always includes fun crossovers. I can’t wait to see what she brings us next!
Loving this series.
Ms Jones champions the asshole alpha, who meets his match. Watching Reid Maxwell fall was divine.
A MAN OF CONTROL. A WOMAN WHO'S ABOUT TO TAKE IT.
I really liked this book the slow growing chemistry between the characters was addictive, the story line was interesting and not repetitive, the sex was steamy hot and it was all over a great read although I seem to have started with book two in this series. This is terrific because I have read this author before and wasn't impressed with that particular series but I never let that put me off as sometimes its just not the right story for you, glad I did now.
I really, REALLY wanted to love this. I really did. Marked it as "WTR" on GR, stalked it on Amazon, earmarked its cost on my credit card, and after all of that........ I started reading it last night. And my love for it just died. Why?
1. For the first 5% of the book, it was pretty good. "Dirty Rich Obsession" has a fast-paced start (we got some action already almost from the word "go"), stars a take-no-prisoners lady boss, features a book hero who's easy to hate but has Adonis-like qualities, and promised all the good stuff that author Lisa Renee Jones is known for in her circle of readers. Then, that fast-paced thingie I told you about? It stopped. And dragged the story on and on and on. After a pivotal scene at the book's 5% mark, all the author did was hem and haw about how the hero, Reid, is an ass. He wants Carrie; he's obsessed with her; he wants her to trust him; but, he does not trust her in return.... yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah. Reid and Carrie are put into the same scenes over and over again. He stomps out of her office, she follows him, he gives her an ultimatum, she wants to show him that he's not the boss of her, he grabs arm, they kinda have sex, but don't, then they do. He wants her, but he'll have her out of his system after a quick fuck........ There. That's the first 25% of the book.
2. I skipped to the end. Man, I was tired of reading about the same ol' shit. They have issues. I get it, Ms. Jones. Let's move the hell on. So, finally, they get their shit together and ta-dah! HEA, right? Sort of. The ending was tagged "The End... for now." Holy jayzus in a cradle. Really? Ugh.
How much money does it cost these days for a good story? Because, apparently, Ms. Jones wants everything I've got. After "Dirty Rich Obsession," though? I think I've reached my stop.
Dirty Rich Obsession is a fabulous Enemies to lovers romance. Carrie and Reid are electric together. Carrie’s tough personality is easy to fall in love with quickly, and Reid is the alpha-hole you hate to love so much.
With a plot full of secrets, all the questions kept me hooked. The chemistry between the two was so thick, I loved it. My only complaint is parts of the book felt a little drawn out. It was a LONG book. I still felt interested the whole time, and was dying to dive back in when I had to put it down for life.
4.5 Star Review, and recommended to the reader looking for a great hate to love story.
A scorching romance, an antagonistic working relationship, and oodles of family issues made Dirty Rich Obsession an utter delight. Lisa Renee Jones definitely upped the hotness factor–thankfully without scrimping on the level of complexity in the plot.
What a smart and oh-so sexy book! Now I’ll admit right off the bat that this might not work for readers who don’t like an enemies-to-lovers story that swings back and forth from serious animosity to intense passion at the drop of a hat. Lisa Renee Jones made it work really well for me, however, because there was such substance behind the reason Carrie was angry with Reid. Read More
Yup. It still hasn't changed. I still find myself completely drawn in by Lisa Renee Jones' stories. They are engaging, mysterious and they call out to me in ways that i never expect. They hold aspects that are entirely realistic and makes me see myself in one or another character, and holds that wishful aspect that makes me wonder if it could come true.
We all know that there are some real character types of people that live out there, the kinds that make you really question whether they are real, like Reid Maxwell. And when you have someone like Carrie more than able to match him in brains, looks and decision making, you can't help but root for one or the other. This time, i'm not sure if i was rooting for Reid to hold on to his regular nature or for Carrie to make him see the light and finally patch what is broken between him and his brother and sister.
I know that if there is another instalment in this series, i'll be the first to run to it and get my grubby little hands on it and find out what else happens. It's just that kind of story that makes you more than a little happy to read, to let go of reality and realize that while you're having your own troubles, it feels great letting go and seeing others try to find their own way as much as you do.
ARC received for an honest review
Welcome back to Lisa's world of corporate high flyers, dirty deals and even dirtier relationships.
Reid and Callie's relationship is full of sexual tension and lust and hatred. And I wanted all of it to come out fighting.
I liked their story and their relationship, however I felt that it got stuck on a bit of a merry-go-round for a while there where our lovelies were all I like you-hot sex-I hate you-hate f&^k-rinse and repeat. The book could have probably done with about 50 less pages as I did find myself thinking "here we go again" is the cycle started each time.
I do like the fighting between them as I could feel it was coming from a place of more than just hatred. I could understand the trust issues, the feelings of betrayal etc etc between them.
I adored Reid and all his gruffness - even if he was a complete dick at times.
I did like this story, but I did feel that things were dragged out, which made the book toooo long. I know it sounds like I didn't like it, but that is not the case, it just needed chopping done to it. I mean, it is a LRJ book so of course I will like it.
I am looking forward to the next books to come.
I don't know what was more irritating. The fact that the major secret between families was not the biggest skeleton in Reid's closet or the constant push and pull between this couple.
Reid is every bit the complicated character I expected but Carrie was not. She was direct and honest but distant.
I felt like Reid was scrubbed raw but the hardest thing Carrie admitted was that she's shy about peeing in front of Reid.
As per usual, the sex is never an issue with this series. It's hot and heavy, but too frequent for my liking.
For those who hate how heavy the legal jargon is in this series, they would be glad to know that corporate law, for this novel, is heavy on the investment and low on the law.
The author has yet to write a couple that doesn't fit and this was no different.
Carrie was able to match Reid in every way that counts and it was those verbal matches that kept me reading because this book did not pick up until it was closer to the end.
Unfortunately, this book ended on a somewhat cliffhanger if you ask me. There are some unresolved issues and I didn't notice them until the author was telling us to pre-order what I imagine will be an extensive epilogue, aka book 2.
It's not that I didn't enjoy these characters, I was just bored the majority of the novel. There were nuggets of excitement but overall, I could have used a little less push and pull and a little more fun.
I consider myself a fan of this series of standalones. This is a fine example of magnetic relationships amidst a clash of business agendas.
The first chapters are the best kind. Provoking, furiously angry, with two opposing characters verbally and physically challenging each other. The chemistry! The cheekiness!
Reid and Carrie engage in a metaphorical duel of epic proportions. Magnificent, tension-filled pace for a corporate tour-de-force where two enemies have to work together to ensure success. Reid is the kind of brick wall you love to hate. In perfectly tailored suits, beautiful to look at and easy to want to kill for his insufferable cockiness. Yet he’s met his match in the clever, courageous, resourceful Carrie, who will fight for her heritage with her mind and will while posing a sensual, intellectual puzzle for Reid to agonize over.
I love to be in the head of these characters that deal with high-stake financial risks, that try so hard to resist a human connection but cannot resist each other’s pull.
Family feuds, inner demons, a battle for trust earned and given, the most exciting dialogues, and passion that pushes the heartrate to its limits. This is one Romeo and Juliette in a world of billions of dollars investments, with characters torn between and impossible love and wars waged in gigantic business deals, and family secrets that can tear them apart in big, jagged chunks of pain.
I loved the sheer intensity of feelings and the stirring sensuality. And I really enjoyed the business deals going on in between the very personal relationship. Superb read and 5 deserved stars.
