Would you fight for a destiny you didn't want? What if other lives depended on you? Would it change your decision?
Estefania doesn't want to be queen. She doesn't want to lead the remnant her mother separated from the swarm for her. She might be the last remaining virgin queen who bears the bee mark, but her new colony resent her. Unable to shape shift and reluctant to accept her natural authority, Estefania kicks against destiny.
But she kicks too hard. And loses everything and everyone she ever loved.
Married and bringing up four children during her twenties and thirties, K T Bowes reserved her storytelling for them.
She emigrated to New Zealand in 2006 with her family on a one way ticket. They arrived with just one suitcase each. The international bestselling Hana Du Rose Mysteries began shortly afterwards, hammered out on an old laptop used for Skyping family back home.
Since then, she has published more than twenty five books ranging from women's literature through teen series, to a fantasy trilogy.
The author has given interviews to That's Life Magazine and the BBC during her writing career. Each of her first in series novels are free to readers on all digital platforms.
K T Bowes has a passion for folk art and renovating wooden furniture. Her work as an archivist often appears within story lines. After two significant falls, she gave up horse riding but often has a guest horse or two in the paddock. She lives above the city of Hamilton, close to the Waikato River and the Hakarimata Ranges. Many of her novels are based in New Zealand, but some transport the reader back to England and the Midlands where she grew up.
Estefania might be a spoiled princess, but she is starting to realise what a selfish person she can be, but after a lifetime of getting whatever she wanted, when she wanted, its a steep learning curve in the world of men, and shes not quite managed to think of others first yet! Limah, the Bee Keeper leads her to the hidden colony, but they do not welcome her with open arms, in fact its the opposite, and she doesn't really care what they think as she doesn't want to lead them - she wants revenge and that is all shes focused on. (that selfish streak again) As Estefania starts to prepare herself in the underground colony, she finds a few allies at first, but as she concentrates on gaining the skills for her to go to war against the Wasp king, she soon pushes those away too. As in life, Estefania only realises after the fact how her actions can cause pain to others around her, she is focused on revenge, but at what cost? Well you will have to read the book to find out ( no spoiler reviews from me sorry!) My thoughts: The world building again gives your imagination lots to work with, I felt like shaking her sometimes ( what mum doesnt when a young adult is determined not to listen to us elders!) But the journey, the mistakes, and the lessons learned from her actions ( whether they are too late or not) shape Estefania towards her destiny, whether that destiny is the one her mother or the bee keeper wanted her to have.
There are some devastating consequences from her actions... and I am curious to see what will happen in book 3, The Hive... I have it on my wishlist and will be #oneclicking soon.
Another great book by, K.T. Bowes. Princessa Estefania Melitto morphs into a different person as she experiences treachery and loss. She is now on a quest that could be the end of her. Estefania is battling the elements, brutal cold of perpetual winter and wilderness; enemies; and her destiny. Along the way she discovers old friends and new as well as old enemies and new. She also fights against her destiny and wants the freedom to wreak vengeance on an old friend who was really an enemy in disguise. Read this book to see who and what she gains and loses. Excitement, misery, and hope! Even though I normally do not read epic fantasy I am reading this series, because I like Kate’s writing so much, and I am enjoying it. I am looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
Looking forward to the next installment.. it’s a wonderful story although sometimes hard to follow. It’s good to see Este becoming more responsible. The little princess is slowly growing up.
