Heart of the Deep

HIS HUNTRESS AND HIS HEART

Larkin has spent almost a year hunting the monstrous kraken in the hope that they knew the whereabouts of her missing brother. Her efforts finally come to fruition when she and the other rangers capture three of the beasts — but the reality is nothing like the stories they’ve been told, and the kraken are not the monsters she expected. Dracchus awes her, captivates her, and makes her long for things she’d never dared dream. With tensions between their people escalating, can she jeopardize everything by trusting him? Is a taste of him worth her life?

HER WARRIOR AND HER REFUGE

Dracchus has risked himself countless times for the sake of his people, doing anything and everything to protect and provide for them. Between the vocal, anti-human kraken at home and the hunters prowling the seas, everything is falling apart around him. But when he meets Larkin, he allows himself hope — hope for a mate of his own, for a family of his own. She is his match, unlike any female he’s ever known. To have her, he’ll have to endanger her, along with all those he’s come to care for. After years of selflessness, how much is he willing to gamble to fulfill his own desires?

Do yourself a favor

Keep reading this series. This was my favorite so far. Tiffany Roberts hit just the right balance in their characters, Dracchus, the biggest of the Kraken, and Larkin, the female ranger searching for her brother. As the rangers' best sharpshooter, her skills put her front and center in the conflict. As always with this writing team, the action scenes and emotion round out an excellent story. For best enjoyment, read the first two books in the series, but the situation between humans and Kraken adds some real tension to this installment. Dracchus' reluctancy to step in as his people's leader and Larkin's nonchalant competency in a battle really enrich the story. Like I said, do yourself a favor and keep reading this series. Best. One. Yet.

Merfolk May continues...

Dracchus, the dark lord of the deep, has found his mate in Larkin, Randall’s sister and Hunter. She has issues and can’t imagine herself married to anyone, but you know what they say...

Once you go black kraken you don’t go back.

The tensions between kraken and human come to blood. It was all vicious goodness! And cathartic for a new beginning.

The third book of the series is about Dracchus, the biggest kraken of them all. He was an adversarial male in the first book and came to be an ally in the second book. He is the hero of the third book and the most likely to lead.

Larkin (Elle), the heroine, is Randall's sister. Once she meets the kraken, she quickly realizes that they are people.

Dracchus comes to admire and desire Larkin as he spends time with her. It takes her about the same amount of time to desire Dracchus but she has some issues from her past that hold her back from admitting it.

There is so much action in this book that moves the overall world story forward. By the end of the book, Kronus has more depth than he ever did before! Can't wait to see where the author takes the story next.

Larkin has been looking for her brother for a year. Last she and her father had heard he had been taken and possibly killed by sea monsters. As part of being a ranger is to protect people from dangerous animals, she is supposed to hunt them down and hopefully find answers. However, what she finds isn't a sea monster, but an intelligent and powerful humanoid. And a being she can't help but feel admiration and attraction.

When I read Treasure of the Abyss the first book in The Kraken series...I wasn't Dracchus' biggest fan. He seemed to come across as a big old bully. Oh but what a difference a book makes! By the end of Jewel of the Sea I was couldn't wait to read more about him.  And, by the end of this book I was ready to jump his tentacles. Roberts transformed Dracchus from an overbearing and aggressive leader to someone you would willingly follow and fall in love with. His interactions with the other couples especially their kids, who all adore him, will melt your heart.

Larkin is the sister of Randall who appeared in Jewel of the Sea, like Randall she is a ranger. She has spent the last year looking for him and for the kraken who took him. I really liked Larkin, she was a powerful hunter something Dracchus was drawn towards. Together they made a great couple, they seemed to have instant chemistry that developed into respect and love as the book went on.

I hope Roberts writes more in this series, it definitely has the potential. I know they started off thinking this would be a standalone, but it has evolved into a fantastic series. I could happily read about more kraken-human pairings!

Well when I started this book I was assuming it was the last in a trilogy and I am sorta right . The original story arc is pretty much done in this book but when reading the author notes at the end of the book it seems there will be at least 1 short story and another book/novella at some point but the main plot of the trilogy is pretty much completed in this book.

As we knew from the last book the Hunters were going to keep coming and they have improved their ways to hunt the Kraken and not to mention the conflict going on in the Kraken community itself so a lot of drama to be dealt with in this final book.

Let me not forget the romance but I can't really reveal much other than it is NOT who you thought it was going to be about at the end of the last book. That will be in the short story in a future anthology.

So all things considered I loved the series, might have been a bit more sex than I cared for at times but to each his/her own it did not feel like "filler sex" that I see too much of in novels these days. So 4 Stars and highly recommend the trilogy.

I can’t get enough of Tiffany Roberts’ rich brand of undersea magic. Roberts’ kraken series really builds, and it’s just getting better as we meet new characters and revisit old ones. In Heart of the Deep, Roberts has created an immersive world that I want to keep revisiting. It feels incredibly real, yet exotic, too. I adored the love story between Dracchus and Larkin, two fascinating and bold characters who compelled me to read on. Having begun the series as a bad guy, Dracchus has grown and matured into a marvelous hero. The plot zooms along, and I turned pages like crazy until the thrilling and satisfying climax.

Totally loved this story. Actually the whole series but I think this is my favorite. Satisfying ending. Dracchus was hunky and my new book boyfriend if Larkin would let me. Action, violence but love and family plus reconciliation. It also had humor and camaraderie.

Wow, I absolutely LOVED this book! This one is 100% my favorite story in the series so far. I am so, so excited that there are going to be more added in the future! You bet I’m going to be reading as many as Tiffany Roberts will throw our way LOL

*SPOILERS FOLLOWING*

Let me start by saying that Larkin was freaking awesome! It was a nice change of pace from the other two books in the series before this, as she was an even stronger female lead than Aymee. She kicked butt to the max and I have mad respect for her. I was heart broken to hear that she wasn’t able to conceive, as Dracchus was so adorable and attentive to Jax’s and Arkon’s lil cuties, but I’m glad they were able to find a happy life with their family despite this. I’ll be looking forward to finding out where the tide takes these Krakens next!

Larkin + Dracchus

Oh man, this series is so fun, sentimental, action-packed, and emotional!

Larkin and her dad and crew are looking for her brother, who has been missing for a year after being sent to learn more about the Kraken. With her perfect shot, they capture three kraken and hold them prisoner to learn more of their kind and the whereabouts of her brother.

The build-up for Dracchus's book did not disappoint. It was fun to see him grow throughout the previous books, and then see him thrive and lead in his book. Dracchus is the grunting hero and the largest of the kraken. He is open to learning about everyone and has a softspot for kids. Larkin is a warrior and an equal partner to Dracchus. I loved that he was so proud of her strength, and that there was a lot of talk of them being equals and standing with each other.

These two have strong chemistry that led to some steamy scenes! I'm not sure if this was suppose to be an enemies to lovers story? It didn't read that way, Larkin was curious about the kraken from the beginning and was not for the torture of them.

Loved the resolution in this story! Definitely shed some tears, was so nice to see certain reunions in this story.

Daddy Dracchus, my gigantic kraken beloved, finally got his HEA and I devoured ittttttttt.

This is slow burn + true enemies to lovers because he’s a kraken and she’s essentially a monster hunter who thinks the kraken murdered her brother. I mean they didn’t. He literally just fell in love with a hot kraken lady. But our FMC didn’t know that. I get it.

But! Once we get our MCs together under the sea in the kraken’s stronghold, it’s forced proximity goodness with…Dracchus forcing the proximity LOL dude is like “you’re my mate and this is our den” and Larkin is like “???? It’s been 2 days, sir”. Does Dracchus care? No. He took one look at Larkin’s badassery and went “mine”. Love that for our big guy.

I also appreciated how Larkin’s personal struggle was handled. And I loved that it wasn’t magically solved by a monster mate, which tends to be par for the course in alien/monster romance. But Tiffany and Robert really focused on the found family in this one and I think it made it all the sweeter. Highly recommend.

ALSO more kraken babies!!!! Gimme all the kraken babies omg so cute.

Must read.

While this whole series has been amazing, Heart of the Deep was my favorite book from The Kraken series so far. These books have been leading up to a big change between the Kraken and the humans and while some authors build up a huge plot and then don’t deliver, Tiffany Roberts definitely delivers. This book has passion, growth, love, family and lots of steamy romance. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. ❤️😍

Did you enjoy the mental image?

Well, I do, and it's all because Tiffany Robert's does it justice, that's why.

If someone were to say to me in my past: "You know, alien type creatures with tentacles can be really erotic" I would have punched them in the mouth. Like...eww.

But I know that isn't true because can Tiffany Roberts ever make me hot and bothered during a smutty scene starring alpha-possessive-tender-aliens-with-tentacles fucking erotic as FUCK.

description

Although not my favorite installment out of the series, it was still really good and I loved how it ended. There were some points that dragged on for me and felt a bit tedious and uninteresting, and the smut took a good while to happen. But Dracchus and Zarkin were PERFECT for eachother and I'm SO happy he got his HEA.

Book 3 in The Kraken Series.

after the events in book 2, The Rangers have moved in to the fishing town of 'The Watch'. On high alert and gunning for the blood of his missing and presumed dead son, Commander Nicholas Laster will not rest until he has all the monstrous Kraken killed for harming his son.

Along with him is his second in command, his daughter Elle Larkin, her hate for the Kraken is as deep for her longing for her older brother...She believes Randall cannot be dead.
She is not the Son her father so desperately misses, forever compared to him, nothing she does is enough.... but she will do everything in her power to get answers and get Randall back.

Even if the repercussions of her perfect aim results in events that rest uneasy within herself.

Dracchus has been the ever protective solid unofficial leader of the Kraken since book one.
After the consequences of book 2 he tasks himself with the mission in scoping out the rangers, the danger is real on both sides..human and Kraken with clear divides in both camps, strong lines have been drawn in the sand..and to protect his adopted family of Kraken 'Brothers', their human mates and their children he will do all he can to ensure their safety as well as those Kraken who fear and resent the human living with them in the Facility ( underwater base/home of the Kraken )

So finding himself and two others captured during their reconnaissance mission and at the less than tender mercy of the Commander of the rangers is not ideal, but neither is setting his sights on the Commanders Daughter.

With two headstrong and determined main characters such as Larkin and Dracchus featuring it was bound to be a clash of wills. Both stubborn in their individual resolve, Larking to get answers regarding her brother and 'steer clear' emotionally of Dracchuss no matter how enticing and intriguing he was to her and for Dracchus to get it through his mates head that no matter the outcome she would choose him!

I knew that Dracchus was a great character from the very first time we met him in book 1 and that his book with be a gripping read. Seeing the big gruff marshmellow realise and recognise his own inner wants and feelings would be a sight to enjoy and behold. ..and by god this book did not hold back on all those fantatic moments, watching his resolve against the humans disintegrate over the past two book was brilliant but this book was absolutely fantastic. The fact that he finally realised he wanted a mate of his own, not just any mate but a fierce and equally as stubborn but supportive human mate and that nothing would stop him from getting her...not even her own past fears, doubts or pains..

I loved how strong Larkin was, despite her inner turmoil..that she was broken or not good enough...she recognised that Dracchus was hers and that she would stand with him for all time. That the strongest of people are the most hard on themselves and need support too, that she recognised that part of herself in him.

This is a fast paced and explosive follow up to the two previous books in the series...the action starts straight away and does not let up. It was fast, furious and oh so gripping, without scrimping on the beautiful world building that went in to Halora and the emotion that you can expect and adore from a book by this awesome writer duo. Echoing the theme in the other books in series of tolerance and understanding for all. Recognising and appreciating the differences in each other no big or small.
I'm more than happy to see that the story will continue...because I'm not ready to leave The Kraken behind yet.

Short Review
3.5✨

I loved this romance! I have been intrigued by Dracchus since the first book, and he's had along the way remarkable development. He has really come into his own as leader of the group.

I loved Larkin. She was a wonderful, empathetic yet empowering lead. It was very easy to sympathize with her story, her struggles, and her fears and hopes. She brought a fresh aura to the series as a lead.

Together, these two formed a gorgeous romance. Yes, things happen fast, and perhaps in other types of romances I'd say too fast, but for this type, I think the pace is set just right. The chemistry is undeniable.

If I could change anything, it is that I am not entirely convinced in the way the love story’s “obstacle” was dealt with. It was revealed then quickly resolved a bit too soon for my liking. I definitely didn’t want any sort of heavy drama, but perhaps a far more reassuring conversation than what took place.

Nevertheless, this book was super enjoyable and I’m glad I gave this series a chance. I hope you do too!

My intent was to finish the series here, but I love how the world expanded in the epilogue and I am intrigued to see Kronus take center stage, so I think I may give it a go in the future!

Oh My Squuuuuueeeeeeee!

That was amazing! Larkin "Elle" is FIERCE! She's so full of life but she believes herself to be broken and undeserving. I'm glad the Authors did not shy away from that and magically "fix" everything. They let it be what it needed to be. There was so much action and drama stuft into this one I snorted with laughter aloud several times, I shed a tear and my guts churned. It is such a beautiful story. I cannot wait for more!

OH MY GOODNESS, I like Dracchus. He's wise enough to question his leadership all while ALWAYS doing what's best for the kraken he's trying to protect. I absolutely respect a leader who checks himself like that.

Plus, Dracchus is just a big sweetie pie under all the muscles and massive tentacles. He thinks things through and weighs the consequences of his actions. And when he commits to something, he is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT committed.

That includes Larkin. I mean, let's face it, Larkin's introduction to the kraken isn't all that flattering. She helps capture them and that could have automatically put her on their poop-list. But Dracchus takes the time to observe her and he sees how she tries to help his captured comrades in whatever way she can.

As for Larkin, as much as she wants to find her missing brother, she can't condone the path her father is taking to do it. She's honorable enough to try to fix things in her own small way. Plus, she's willing to confront her father when she thinks he's taking things too far.

These kraken have had a rough time of it, but, as Dracchus said, change is coming whether the kraken are going to be ready for it or not.

I am SO ready to see what happens with Kronos now.

I alllllllmost DNF'd this one. This will be my usual spoilery goodness but it's for a reason.

Draccuus wanted kids SOOOOOOO freaking bad. I mean the whole beginning of the book was spent showing us exactly how much he wanted them. THEN the authors throw us a crappy (that's the nicest word I'm going to use to describe her) heroine for our favorite Kracken and you're like ok maybe I'll warm up to her... THEN we find out she can't have kids. UGH! I was devistated. BUT after my buddy reading partner gave me a pep talk I picked it back up and kept reading.

I'm so glad I did. The heroine is my least favorite but she at least got tolerable towards the end and my precious Dracchus seems happy enough to spend his life being the cool uncle. IM NOT HAPPY WITH IT (as stated by my three stars) but whatever.

What I did like and why I'll read book 4 and the novella is the side characters and ongoing story are getting really good and it's compelling. VERY compelling.

I really hope the authors don't saddle Kronus with a crap heroine cause dammit no! He's gloriously grouchy but deep deep down I know he has it in him to be kick ass. Plus, I do love me some redeemed bad guy heroes. So everyone (reading this series or not) cross ALL your fingers that I LOOOOOOVE the next heroine.

We finally get a little bit of peace!
This book was so well done.
I loved pretty much everything about it.
It’s got the hot Kraken sex. It’s got violence and danger. It’s got subterfuge. It’s got what basically amounts to a revolution and then a peace treaty.

I am just so happy to see Dracchus get his HEA.
And.
I’m super stoked to see what this new chapter of Kraken and human cohabitation brings.

So glad I finally read this. It definitely reignited my interest in the series and I can’t wait to read the next book.

Deep in my heart.

This series has been consistently awesome in its engaging characters, easy to follow plots, and thorough world building. After seeing Dracchus handle the children and changes so well, I was really excited to see him get a mate of his own. A lot happens in this book and it just made me excited to read the next one.

I can not fully express how much I enjoyed this series...

and this book. For an author to take a protagonist and make them in to a romantic leading man is the height of true writing/craftsmanship ability!! I liked Dracchus right from the start of this series when he was being a complete douche. But the development of his character was wonderfully written and I truly enjoyed seeing him grow.

This author makes such a concerted effort to do the good side of their characters even the so called “enemy” characters. Truly showing that people are rarely just good or bad. That they are a mix of both. This series and this book in particular does an outstanding job as a romance but it was definitely more than just that. It was more than just sci fi too. It was real while still being a feel good story. That people and society’s can grow and embrace change. Differences don’t have to be barriers.

**SPOILERS**
Having said all that, I was sad that Dracchus and Larkin couldn’t have children. It was in no way a detriment to the characters or the story. It just made me sad. I like HEA’s to have it ALL. I know I’m being greedy but that’s how I feel.
** END SPOILERS **

I eagerly await more books in this series. The authors should definitely keep working on this line. I am going to try a couple more of their books and see if I will become a new faithful fan of theirs. I already purchased “Dustwalker” and “Ice Bound”. I will look into the “Valos of Sonhadra” but I’m not crazy about that series being written across multiple authors. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m not sold yet on purchasing the “Isle of the Forgotten” series because it seems so sad somehow. I like sad stories but not so much in romance. So if anyone can change my outlook on it let me know if I have the wrong impression of it please.
