The title says it all. This is a truly incredible story.
It's amazing what people can accomplish when you trust them and give them the opportunity to express themselves and take the initiative. That's the whole idea of this book. How a security company achieved record growth and productivity by doing something that was counter-intuitive; reducing policies, regulations and allowing employees have more freedom.
What amazed me most was the chapter on unlimited vacation. After defining the unique and effective corporate culture, Ron Lovett; the author and the founder of the security company decided to give his employees unlimited vacation days. Contrary to conventional knowledge, this further increased employee dedication and productivity.
This book enforces the idea that you can disregard management orthodoxies and still build a successful company. One must never be afraid to think outside the box.
After the first few chapters of recounting his early days and many mistakes of entrepreneurial activity (some legal some not) the author tells the very inspirational story of how he built a business from scratch and tore down and built the culture to make it successful. Empowering his frontline employees he created an outstanding national security company with more than fifteen hundred frontline staff.
Very helpful and insightful read. Little gems throughout that I could implement immediately. Something I’m currently considering is the unlimited vacation...I’m sure my managers won’t have any issues with it :)
A really interesting read - helped to provide alternatives to management princples for defining what needs to be done instead of what we always do. and why when people feel empowered they raise their own bar for success.
Honest, genuine and authentic. A great roadmap to grow a company or a team inside an organization. Ron shares tools you can use immediately to help your team.
