When a hunter from the pig-dog’s home planet arrives all hell break’s loose. Who are Maximus’ true friends and how far will they go to protect him?
A frontier world. One sheriff. The Company, and all the action one spaceport can’t handle.
The sheriff’s faithful companion carries a secret. The hunter is driven to get it and won’t rest until he stands over Maximus’ dead body. The sheriff and his alien deputy fight to stay one step ahead of the Hunter from Glakridoz.
Fans of Firefly, Bonanza, and Tombstone will love this space opera / western and all the characters that make the story great. Join us on the latest journey through Darklanding.
Scott Moon loves audio books, especially the works of George R.R. Martin, Patrick O'Brian, and Michael Connelly. He has been writing fantasy, science fiction, and urban fantasy thrillers most of his life and aims to read or listen to 100 books a year. Currently, he is a commissioned police officer serving in a street level counter drug and gang unit. Some of his most rewarding and heartbreaking work was as a detective in the Exploited Missing Child Unit. His favorite assignment is SWAT, primarily for the eighty pounds of tactical gear he gets to wear in the blazing summer heat. In 2005, he helped arrest a serial killer who had been at large for over thirty years.

What a scare! Nobody touches Maximus, please! My favourite character, the pig-dog and Mast the alien Unglok! Frightening turns and the mystery about Maximus and his world. Wonderfully realistic and fast paced, as always a fantastic read!
Not only has he been chased across the Galaxy by Zane VoidHunter, who is determined to kill him, and take the Heartstone that he's been carrying in his second stomach, since before he left Glakridoz, his planet of birth, but he's also having to try to explain things to his Human, Sheriff Thaddeus Fry, and his Unglok, Deputy Mast Jotham.
Thad sort-of understands him, but not enough to hurry, in order to save his ex wife, and the Terror Corp Troopers that VoidHunter had tricked into his booby-trapped ship.
Life was hard for a Glakridoz trying to kill the crazy Human that blamed his kind for their deaths on his very tough planet, but Maximus was determined to stop him, no matter what it might take.
I loved this story, and hope that I'll learn much more about Maximus, and his kind, with the next one!
in this episode, anyway. Another great read from Moon and Martelle! Of course, when you put a cop and a (former [ha, no such thing!]) Marine with incredible storytelling abilities together, you get some Good Guys who know justice and use law to obtain it. Open talks with Josh Whedon for a TV series. Please? Looking forward to the 2-parter...::mumble:: freakin' cliff-hanger endings and waiting....
I have enjoyed this series so far. It’s like Matt Dillon meets Buck Rodgers in the twenty fifth century. A lone sheriff in a mining boom town deals with aliens, criminals, criminal aliens, and prostitutes who want to show him a good time. Well written and funny.
Episode 10 from Darklanding and this time Maximus takes centre stage, as a hunter is looking for him. Again another good book with the main characters now firmly established.
