Deceiver

Rate this book
Book Main Following the “accidental” death of police officer Derek Hines, the members of the Southern Ladies’ Glee Club (the “SLGC”) know that, for their own good, they should keep a low profile. But, as usual, what’s good for them and what they actually do are two different things.

When SLGC member, Candy Putnam, falls for the lead investigator, she plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse, love and deceit, as she attempts to stay one step ahead of the investigation. At the same time, as things heat up between Candy and the tall, dark-haired sleuther, she must work with the SLGC to plan a new murder and stop a serial killer who is preying on local children.

With her relationship on the line, as well as her freedom, she and the other SLGC members carry out their plans to kill a killer with hilarious, although satisfying, results.

Reader Alert! The Southern Ladies’ Glee Club is a five-book series. “Liar” is Book One and “Deceiver” is Book Two. Book Three, “Cozener”, will be available by the end of 2017.

To My The Southern Ladies’ Glee Club is meant to entertain and amuse. The sassy, saucy ladies from Arkansas deliver charm and wit. But, they are far from graceful, as their exploits turn into catastrophic comedies. I hope you enjoy reading about the ladies as much as I enjoyed writing about them.

About the Wife, mother, and avid animal lover, D. Morrissey is an English major from Arkansas, which many people believe is an oxymoron. A business executive in real-life, D. Morrissey harbors a secret penchant for mystery/romance writing. She has a crack team of supporters at her beck and call, including a wide variety of small farm animals for brainstorming technique, as well as a German Shepherd and two cats who serve as distinguished beta readers. Her biggest fan is a turtle named Squirt, and her biggest critic is herself. When Donna’s not writing, she can usually be found somewhere curled up with a good book.

EXCERPT

“Okay. It’s after six now,” Sami says peeking at the clock on Lora’s dash. “We should have plenty of time. But, you know what to do if he comes back early.”

Lucy nods. “We’ll flag him down for help, and then I’ll keep him busy while Gabby calls you.” Gabby shakes her cell phone at Sami.

“Good. I guess we’re ready, then?” She glances at Lora and then at me for confirmation.

“Who’s got the pills?” I ask, panicked.

Sami gasps, patting frantically at her pockets. Then she exhales, her hand resting on her breast pocket, and she closes her eyes. “I do.”

“Okay. Then, we’re ready,” I breathe.

We smile and wave as we drive away, spinning toward the lights at Mr. Stratford’s house. We strain our necks as we roll slowly past the driveway.

“Looks like the coast is clear,” Lora says as she looks for a place to pull off the road and park.

“Not too far,” Sami warns. We still have to get back and forth without being seen.” We continue down the road for some distance, and I begin to think we need to turn around.

“There!” Sami points at a cluster of Walnut trees just off the road, and Lora pulls smack into the middle of them.

We step out, stretching and preparing for the short hike to the farm.

“Here,” Sami hands us each a small flashlight. “Let’s go. Candy, put your mask on.
